<p>I hope everyone had a great one and kept in mind how much they were eating. I know I did! I pretty much stuck to my game plan, although I did I have a glass of white wine with dinner. Everything was sooooo good and I could have easily got seconds on it all. But I found that after one plate with a little bite of everything was more than plenty. I drank water all day long and I treated myself to a small slice of pumpkin pie.</p>
<p>I actually got up early in the morning and went for a run. I figured I&#8217;ve been doing so well on the wii running (running in place) that I would give it a shot. I ran about a quarter of a mile and remembered exactly why I hate running! Why is it that something that&#8217;s so good for us makes us feel sooooo awful after words? I know I just need to get used to it and my body was in shock. Obviously real running takes a lot more out of you than running in place. DUHHHHH! But I did it! And after getting passed the &#8220;I&#8217;m going to vomit&#8221; stage I felt pretty good and ready for the rest of the day. I went to bed feeling stuffed which was odd because it didn&#8217;t seem like I ate that much.</p>
<p>I did weigh in that morning and I&#8217;ve stayed the same since the last weigh in at 151.9 pounds. I&#8217;m hoping this coming week I will shed a couple because I&#8217;ve gotten a lot more intense with my work out and diet. For instance today I pretty much had the house to myself all day and was amongst all the yummy left overs. I had several thoughts of dishing myself a helping of each of yesterdays goodies and eating that for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But I was good. I had my morning coffee for breakfast, humus, carrots and a small piece of turkey for lunch, I had a couple pita chips for a snack and then for dinner some more turkey and a salad. Oh and lots of water again. Instead of a piece of pie for desert I will go with another cup of coffee.</p>
<p>I know I had said I would be putting pictures up every month to show my progress&#8230; well since my progress has been very slow-moving it was kind of pointless. But I decided to do a little update because even though it doesn&#8217;t really look like much, I did drop 2 pant sizes since I started. These pictures are not flattering at all, but I think it&#8217;s necessary not only for you guys following but for myself. I can look at them and say, okay my body is changing. Even though I&#8217;ve dropped in dress sizes, my actual weight hasn&#8217;t moved too much and sometimes it&#8217;s tough to keep going when you don&#8217;t think anything is working.  I was looking at pictures from when I was younger and I was 115 pounds. Back then I thought I was so fat, what I wouldn&#8217;t give to be that weight again. At my age 115 is a little far-fetched, but I know if I keep it up I can at least get back to 125.</p>

<p>Since gaining weight at my last job (too many late nights followed by fast food binges), most of my clothes no longer fit me. I can squeeze into my size 8 jeans but not without a struggle. And I can only wear one pair of my slacks.</p>
<p>Of course, this means I&#8217;ve only got a few clothes that I can wear right now. And, because I&#8217;ve really slowed down on the weight training, I know I won&#8217;t be able to fit into my size 8s for a while now. So&#8230;</p>
<p>I&#8217;m going to up my workout routine to what it used to be. I&#8217;ll work out every day of the week, alternating between legs and arms with weight training. I have to lose this weight. I miss all my pretty clothes.</p>
<p>I did skip the fast food tonight even though I was starving and my cold wasn&#8217;t making me happy about going in somewhere. I went to Subway and got a six-inch sandwich.</p>
<p>I know I can lose the weight. It&#8217;s just a matter of getting back in the groove of working out.</p>
<p>Also, I&#8217;d like to move all of my clothes to the hallway closet and use my bedroom closet as a kind of conveyer belt.</p>
<p>I realized this week that not knowing what I was going to wear in the morning really sets my routine back by at least 20 minutes. I turn off the alarm and lay in bed wondering, &#8220;Okay, what can I wear today?&#8221; I take stock of all my clean clothes in my head and then weed through the ones that fit me well.</p>
<p>If I had all of my outfits already planned out, I wouldn&#8217;t have to work nearly as hard in the morning. I would wake up, grab the first outfit lined up in the closet. Then I could be out the door in 10-15 minutes instead of 30-35 minutes.</p>
<p>I cannot wait to get this weight off so I can fit into all my beautiful clothes again. I refuse to buy the size I&#8217;m currently at. I will not buy any clothes for myself until I&#8217;m able to fit into my 8s again and am able to breathe normally while wearing them.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>I have been heavy all my life….ok I have been obese for most of my life.  There I said it.  It is in black and white print for all to see.  I started on diets at age 12.  I took thyroid pills that made me sick when I was very active…not a good way to live, but I lost 30 pounds and that was good.  But I put them back on plus a few more in 4 years and thus started an up/down cycle that would go on for 45 years.</p>

<p>I have been on the grapefruit diet, apple cider/lecithin, Nutri System, Atkins, South Beach, 500 calorie a day liquid diet(like Oprah back in the 80s), 6 week makeover , LA Weightloss, just to name a few.  I signed up for the “Biggest Loser online program” but then didn’t follow it because it seemed so impersonal.  I was getting ready to try Jenny Craig but I really didn’t want another packaged food program. I knew I needed to lose weight but I also wanted to just get healthy.  I have a little problem with atrial fibrillation, my lower back hurts and my feet are killing me with plantar fasciitis.  I know I am getting old but I don’t like “feeling” old.  I knew I needed to change my lifestyle but didn’t know how to start.</p>
<p>My husband and I live in Arizona and travel in our RV each summer around the US and we were in Kalispell in August.  We stopped at the brewery in Lakeside and they had Montana Women’s Magazine.  So while eating a delicious lunch, I leafed through the magazine and saw the ad for Genesis Transformation COD Retreat.  It sounded interesting and I went on the website.  I was really intrigued now and I wrote Sheri.  She wrote back and I signed up for the Retreat at COD Ranch.</p>
<p>I feel very fortunate that I could start my transformation with a total immersion into the program.  I got educated.  I found out why that old theory of calories in and calories out doesn’t work.  I found out why my cycle of dieting didn’t work.  I found out why my metabolism was “dead”. Being a process-oriented person, I needed an explanation of why I had such a problem.  Why could my brother eat everything in sight and never gain weight?  Sheri explained everything.  And she had a step-by-step proven process on how to get healthy.  She made sense!  And her passion was infectious! The Yoga every day with Samantha was great!  And the food!  I couldn’t believe how much food everyone was eating!  I remarked to everyone that I had never been in a room with 9 women with so much food on everyone’s plates…and they even went back for seconds!  This was amazing!   It was also very helpful to meet other women and hear their stories that were similar to mine.  And meeting Lisa, who lost 100 pounds, made it all real for me.   Maybe I could do this!  Maybe if I treated my body right for a change, it would react the way I wanted and drop the pounds.  Maybe at the age of 59 I could finally get healthy!</p>
<p>So one month has passed since I arrived at the COD Ranch.  I have dropped over 11 pounds.  My blood pressure has dropped from 140/85 (last spring) to 101/68.  Isn’t that amazing?  I realized I was addicted to salt and I have dropped my sodium intake from over 3000 mg a day to 300-600 mg a day.  I think that is why my blood pressure has dropped.  I feel great and I am eating all the time.  My husband says the food I am cooking now has so much more flavor than my old style of cooking.  That is because we are eating real healthy food with natural spices and NO added salt! (how I love salsa!) I take a Yoga/Pilates class 3 times a week and I find that I can do more and more of the exercises each day.</p>
<p>I feel blessed to have found Genesis Transformation.  I feel blessed that I have Samantha as my coach.  I feel like I am finally on my way to getting healthy and leading a more active life.  This time I plan to get rid of the “fat” clothes that I have always kept in reserve when I have gone on a diet, knowing in the back of my mind that I will probably need them again.  This time I am doing it right, thanks to Sheri and Genesis Transformation!</p>

<p>Just consider this….</p>
<p>Maybe you’re fit, lean, and muscular at 185 pounds, or weigh only 115 pounds but are still flabby, soft, and out of shape.</p>
<p>Just take a look at your levels of lean muscle mass and you’ll see the difference between a diet for weight loss and a diet for fat loss. Your body will look fit and trim with more muscle, even if it adds pounds to the scale. So, someone who weighs in at 140 pounds and has a lot of lean muscle mass will look better and thinner in their clothes, as opposed to someone who weighs the same on the scale, but is fatter and has less lean muscle.</p>
<p>This is why you need to diet for fat loss instead of following traditional diets that expect you to lose weight. Even though you might only lose a few pounds per week if you diet correctly, the truth is that you’re swapping out your light but ugly fat for heavy but attractive lean muscle mass.</p>
<p>Another bonus is that your new muscles will work with you to lose fat even if you stop dieting because muscles naturally burn more calories as compared to fats. Now, in addition to being able to wear smaller clothes and look better, your body will automatically burn more calories thanks to the fact that you have less fat and more muscle.</p>
<p>So why don’t traditional diets work?</p>
<p>A lot of these diets are too restrictive because they force a severe reduction in caloric intake and in turn, your body loses water and muscle instead of the fat you want to lose.</p>
<p>Even if your scale says you weigh less at the end of the month, your appearance will still seem soft, flabby, and not as attractive as you had hoped.</p>
<p>In fact, it might be more pronounced since you’ve eliminated even more of your lean muscle mass.</p>
<p>Plus, if you are not building your muscle mass and letting your body burn more calories naturally, you’re going to be stuck on a restrictive diet forever if you want to keep the weight off.</p>
<p>As long as you diet for fat loss along with a muscle building plan, you will drop fat and keep it off without having to worry about maintaining a restrictive diet.</p>
<p>Let’s be honest, there aren’t that many of us who can or want to keep up a restrictive diet endlessly, so when that weight returns, it will do so with a bang. The body’s response to starvation is to store more calories as fat, so you may actually end up putting on more weight once you go off the diet.</p>
<p>Do not diet for weight loss; diet for fat loss if you want to look better, improve your body composition and achieve both for the long haul. If you can diet for fat loss, you are working towards long-lasting and permanent fat burning results.</p>

<p>Listen folks:  We won&#8217;t lie to you.  We already know that there is no short-cut to losing weight and obtaining/maintaining a desired  level of fitness.  After some investigation into the lives of the pros and contestants of DWTS, we can confirm that behind the orange glow, the bedazzled costumes and the emotional range of Donny Osmond:  These folks work HARD all day long.   The question becomes, how can we translate this into a program that is realistic in providing results for the rest of us who don&#8217;t have 8 hours per day to exercise?  Difficult:  YES.  Impossible:  NO.</p>
<p>Why is the show so successful at transforming bodies?  Because dancing is arguably one of the most efficient methods of physical activity for weight loss. By combining activity within all major muscle groups, dancing features tremendous cardiovascular, muscular strength and flexibility benefits. Think about it:  The position that the body requires when maintaining dance moves, including: holding head up, shoulders back, ribcage in; all dramatically alter both your own perception of your body, as well as the perception of you by others.  When you perform these movements and maintain this posture even in a short period of time, one can see dramatic changes both in body composition (fat/muscle ratio) as well as body image and appearance.</p>
<p>For Part One of our series, let&#8217;s gather fit tips and success stories from the professionals and contestants.</p>
<p><strong>The Professionals</strong><br />
<strong>Cheryl Burke</strong> dropped 10 pounds from the off-season, by rehearsing eight hours a day, five days a week. She eats egg whites, whole grains, veggies, and lots of water. She also tries to avoid salt, and keeps snacks with her to avoid temptation.</p>
<p><strong>Karina Smirnoff </strong> avoids meat but eats egg whites, fish, and salad. She has a tablespoon of olive oil on an empty stomach to help with digestion.</p>
<p><strong>Edyta Sliwinska</strong> sticks to 1,500 calories a day, eating foods such as cottage cheese, ground oats, berries, chicken salad, and cereal. She avoids pasta, bread, rice, and candy. She gets her toned legs from dancing in heels.</p>
<p><strong>Kym Johnson</strong> spends a lot of time doing core work to get her rock-hard abs. <p><strong>Kim Kardashian</strong> claimed she lost &#8220;some weight,&#8221; but fortunately was kicked off before she could achieve full results. <strong> Stacy Keibler</strong> is also well known for slimming down her muscular frame during the show.</p>
<p><strong>Marie Osmond</strong> said she lost 45 lbs while appearing on the show, however she was using NutriSystem&#8217;s diet plan while dancing.  Another NutriSystem follower is&#8230;</p>
<p><strong>Joey Fatone </strong>As if being a member of the boy-band N Sync in the late 1990s wasn&#8217;t bad enough, Joey Fatone was also referred to as &#8220;Fat One,&#8221; a clever play on his last name.  So when the 30-year-old was cast on <em>Dancing with the Stars&#8217;</em> fourth season, he decided enough was enough.  Selecting NutriSystem to help with meals, Fatone lost 6 pounds in the first two weeks.  Fatone went from weighing 239 pounds in mid-February to 219 pounds &#8212; attributing the additional weight loss to five-hour a day, six-day a week rehearsals with his <em>Dancing with the Stars</em> partner Kym Johnson.</p>

<p>Breakfast: A banana and an energy drink</p>
<p>11:00 a.m. I showered and now I can’t decide what to wear to Thanksgiving dinner. I have a choice between jeans and a nice top, slacks and a nice top or jean or nice slacks and a sweater. I think I will go with a sweater. I am still undecided on the pants.</p>
<p>Water: Four cups</p>
<p>12:16 p.m. I arrived a relatives house to have dinner. I am hoping we can get through the meal without any drama.</p>
<p>Lunch: Turkey, yams, stuffing, veggies, a slice of pumpkin pie and white wine.</p>
<p>3:58 p.m. We had a lovely dinner and there was no drama. Thank goodness.</p>
<p>Snack: A cup of coffee</p>
<p>6:20 p.m. The Broncos are playing, but I don’t feel like watching.</p>
<p>Dinner: A ham sandwich, a few chips and some water</p>
<p>Bowel Movement Barometer: Movement at 7:58 p.m.</p>
