PROTOTYPING works. I took a surface dip in the past days and it works for me. I was triggered by IDEO’s Tom Kelly & Jonathan Littman in their book (back from 2001):

“Get in the habit of making stuff or airing trial balloon ideas. Odds are you’ll bounce your way to the insight that may inspire your next breakthrough.” (p. 111)

Try prototyping whenever you have no idea to go ahead. Or when you cannot imagine with the limited eye of your brain how it should be or look.

Classic advice? “First you need a sound” and get crazy experimenting, from the beeest:

Вы помните, как диско в конце 80-х плавно переходило в ранний хаус. Как и с чего начинались первые рейвы. А вот Hercules & Love Affair, судя по всему, помнят и неплохо: каким упругим казался грув хаус-музыки после диско, как выходили на сцену первые MC. Получился отличный саундтрек к книге типа Электрошок Лорана Гарнье, к прогулке по городу, к рабочему дню. Я бы даже не отказался посидеть в кофейне и фоном путешествовать по тем временам, которые не видел и которые уже не вернутся. Да, и сейчас слово диско звучит ото всюду, но мало кто обращается к оригинальному диско середины восьмидесятых, а какие там прекрасные мелодии и оригинальные подходы. Микс, по-началу показавшимся плоским, уже на третьем треке заразил своим грувом, а к концу и вовсе заставил закрыть глаза от удовольствия. Советую и вам пуститься в это путешествие.

With no TV and internet at my new place, I hit the turntables a lot to entertain myself in some way. Much thanks again to Mike Deuce for lending me his turntables, I don’t know what I would do without the ability to mix. So I got home early the other day to wait for the fridge to be delivered. This gave me a lot of time to do nothing, especially since delivery people are ALWAYS LATE. I decided to put together a shorter piece for Silverlake Sessions Vol. 2 with a focus on Caribbean inspired music from Jamaica, New York, and beyond. Since the fridge delivery was super late, I decided to fill the other half of the mix and make Silverlake Sessions Vol. 2.5. 2.5 was focused on funk and soul from the late 70s and early 80s. I did branch off a little but it was just because I felt like playing the song at the moment. Wasn’t really feeling this one cause I was really off and my mixes kept drifiting, but I share what I record so its all good Check the mixes. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
