That people today, bereft of ethics and morals, would go to great lengths to obtain pirated copies of Windows 7 was to be expected.

That Microsoft, for all of its swaggering bravado but its obviously flaccid Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) tool, cannot detect and thwart pirated copies is galling — but cynics would claim that it is but par for the course for MSFT.

What is, however, NOT ACCEPTABLE is that Microsoft has said that it would support any and all pirated copies of Windows 7 … not in anyway trying to BLOCK updates or System Packs.

Here is a good article about this unstinted support by Microsoft for PIRATED Windows 7 by ‘Tom’s Hardware.’ Please skim through it.

I have a right to bitch. I am not just an indignant, righteous spoil-sport. I have some valid skin in this game, way beyond the fact that I paid $149 for my OEM copy of Windows 7 Professional.

The Product Key-based Windows activation system used by Microsoft was THOUGHT UP BY ME … 31 years ago. Here, I created a post, with links to the US Patents database, to prove this. Check it out. So, I kind of know what I am talking about here.

That MSFT will condone Windows 7 piracy is akin to WalMart saying that henceforth it will not crackdown on shoplifting and instead will instruct its staff to provide bags and receipts for all STOLEN GOODS.

Well, here is the TWIST.

MSFT is breaking the law!

MSFT management has a fiduciary responsibility to its SHARE HOLDERS to maximize their return on investment. I contend that supporting PIRATED copies of Windows 7 violates that!

I am calling for a CLASS ACTION SUIT against MSFT for their support of pirated Windows 7.

I have already posted in Boston CraigsList trying to bring it to the attention of CA attorneys out there. On Monday, I will post in Seattle and New York. There is a GOOD CA case here.

********************

Now I suspect that the real problem here is that MSFT cannot, for all of its claims, detect pirated copies of Windows 7 — if a ‘valid’ key is typed in.

I might have to work on this! << smile >> My idea to begin with. Maybe, I need to take it to the next step. [This time, however, it will be MY patent. Not IBM's.]

But, there are other ways to really put a damper on pirated copies of Windows 7.

MSFT, better than anybody else, knows where the ISO images are being downloaded from. Of course, MSFT has folks monitoring all these ‘torrents.’

MSFT here is some FREE ADVICE from the originator of the Product Key-based activation scheme and in his youth, in the early 1970s, an original ‘hacker.’

SEED the download sites with MODIFIED Windows 7 images. Don’t do anything drastic. Just some good ‘ET Call Home’ code — really no different to what you already have in WAG, but this time around with a flag saying this copy is pirated … this is the IP. While you are at it get whatever information might be useful so that you can tell these THIEVES that you need payment of $200 for the copy of Windows 7. I don’t need to spell this out.

So that is where I sit. We need MSFT management to live up to their fiduciary responsibility.

Thank YOU.

Well the good news is… things aren’t getting any worse. Not that there was much scope for the spec script market to fall any more. Universal and Sony have used up their development budgets for this year, or had it taken away form them The other studios aren’t faring much better. So far this year, the proportion of scripts that have gone out wide and sold, hovers at around 1%. That’s about the same figure during the writers strike. Dire news, but at least it’s honest.

Although the persistent economic storm clouds are gradually starting to lift, with major companies beginning to recapitalize, things should turn in the new year. Progress is likely to be slow as we still face the possibility of a double dip in the economic recovery. You know things are bad when the top tenpercentaries are selling single single digit numbers of projects. Scripts are still being circulated so that writers can display their wares. Make sure you’re one of them and get as many query letters out there as possible, hopefully even a few reads. We still need to market ourselves and network like crazy.

The screenwriting landscape has changed dramatically since the WGA strike of 2008. Television networks are relying on reality tv shows despite audience drops of around 20%. Reality tv shows can cost less than half that of scripted dramas, so are highly profitable. Networks have learnt to live without us. Where major shows used to hire 10-12 writers, the number has dropped by around 30 -40%. The number of pilots commissioned by the television networks has fallen by a similar amount. The good news is that the best television writing around these days is in cable television. Ratings of scripted cable shows have improved by around 20 -30%. Look at the Emmys, with shows like “Mad Men”, “Breaking Bad”, “Weeds” and “Hung”. Go Showtime, HBO and AMC. You rock!

The feature business is murkier. Producers are finding it tougher to get projects off the ground in light of costs increasing by around 10% per year. Many studio films are unprofitable and are considered advertisements for DVD sales and merchandising, both of which faced decreasing sales in the current economic climate. Old school mentality dictated that you were only as successful as your last project. This adage no longer holds true. Studios are increasingly hedging their bets with franchises, sequels and comics. The beleaguered MGM studio is likely to be auctioned off shortly. In the absence of many serious buyers, it may not survive, given that it’s library is considered old and unlucrative. The worst case scenario would be one less buyer and one less lion roaring.

It has been argued that in 2009, it was easier to get a $200 million plus project like “Star Trek” greenlit than a $10 million indie. The “specialty” film business, which was once swallowed up by the studios, have still not returned in vogue. Studio balance sheets show that the more you spend on a movie, the more money it earns to justify their budgets. Studios aren’t even sure where to spend their P & A dollars anymore. Given the declining ratings, traditional television advertising isn’t as effective as it once was. Virals and other internet campaigns are gradually being rolled out as audiences are spending more time on the internet.

However, we need this destruction to allow for new creation. How biblical! Old debt based business models need to altered to suit the new streamlined modern age. Can you believe that shows celebrating their 100th episode are really celebrating when they break even financially? How could that be sustainable? You gotta hand it to “The Simpsons” who are just recently starting to post profits. There’s creative accounting for you.

Still, the world will always need storytellers; that means us. However, the media in which we operate will change. As writers, we need to diversify our outlets. Consider writing for downloadable or streamed radio plays, webisodes, audio books on CD, mobile phone content. Nobody has figured out a viable business model for these formats, but they will in time. Necessity is the mother of invention, so we too must evolve. New foliage will sprout in the burnt out forest and we’ll be there to nurture it.

Dear-oh-dear how can I be positive when it’s been a shitty week. Okay so I’m going to try and be positive. The film I wrote, WASHDAYS, which has already picked up some awards, including the Rushes Soho award for BEST FILM, has been nominated for a BIFA. This is a big deal and I am extremely pleased.

So what’s the problem? I still have all my teeth, the sun has shone for most of the day and we’re having chilli con carné for supper. But it’s still been a shitty week because, well (apart from shelling out £185 for three new tyres on the car) because I’m a screenwriter. Yes, because I’m a screenwriter.

There is a perception in the UK film and television industries that we writers are, yes essential in some way, but also a bit of an inconvenience. I remember when I first started writing for soaps, the producer of an episode I had written invited me to the set. I duly arrived and someone with a clipboard pounced on me with a “And who are you?”. “Er.. the writer” I replied. “Right” said the clipboard person. “Stand over there, keep out of the way and don’t make a noise”.

What many seem conveniently to forget is that without writers there would be no film or television drama. Directors cannot direct from blank pages, neither can actors perform without character or dialogue. Last year, film and TV production in the US ground to a halt all because the writers stopped writing. WGA writers went on strike and the media industry haemorrhaged billions of dollars. Directors had nothing to direct and actors had nothing to act. That demonstrates the true power and worth of the screenwriter.

Okay, so what’s my beef? My beef is that I can’t afford to go to the BIFA awards. Why? Because the tickets cost over £400 inc VAT and I have earned less than £400 in the last three months. Ah you say, but surely nominees get invited for free don’t they? Yes they do. But they send the allocated tickets to the director, because directors are more important than writers, and my director gave the second one to the producer. Now I don’t blame him particularly for buying into the whole “director is king” perception, as this has been prevalent in the film industry for decades (‘though I am trying to educate him out of it). But it does amaze me , in the light of the above demonstration of writer power, that such a blatant travesty of a myth can continue to survive. Writers and directors are creative equals, they are the unique yet symbiotic elements in the creative process of making a film : Directors need screenwriters to provide stories for them to film, and screenwriters need directors to bring their stories to the screen (unless of course the two roles are combined in one person). So there you have it, I am pissed off because the director and producer of the film are going to the Bifas for free whereas I who wrote the screenplay, created the story and characters, must shell out £400 (which I don’t have) if I want to be there. Which of course I do.

Harlan Ellison delivers another subtle message at Paramount; 2007

Nick Counter, the stonewalling negotiator for the AMPTP that battled with SAG and the WGA (and sorta the DGA, I guess, although they always seemed to just skate by at the tail end of all the blood-letting) died today.

from Nikki Finke:

Counter wouldn’t budge on the issues, and instead sat, and sat, and waited for the other side to get frustrated and start taking issues off the table. It was a successful albeit torturous and disrespectful tactic, one that did not endear him to the unions who often made accusations that he bargained in bad faith with them. Several unions even filed formal complaints about him with the National Labor Relations Board. Counter handled almost all the negotiations that led to and then settled the 2007/2008 Writers Guild strike. On the picket lines, WGA strikers often made signs caricaturing Counter in unflattering ways.

I don’t see a statement yet from the WGA, but the statement from SAG is a bit too mushy and filled with warm fuzzies, if you ask me.

“His long tenure as head of the AMPTP was typified by reason, compassion… flashes of wry humor…an evident respect for actors and admiration for their unique contribution to the art and business of entertainment.”

Seriously?

I’m not in the WGA or SAG, I didn’t know Counter or any of these players, but as a casual (albeit closer than many who opine on the internet) observer to the 2007 strike I can say that there weren’t many kind words about the man and his tactics on the strike lines or in print during that period, to put it mildly. Of course, once it was all over, coverage seemed to exonerate him and put all the blame on the writers, which is not to say that the WGA didn’t make mistakes and share the blame, but to wipe the slate clean for the AMPTP and Counter is just ridiculous and a sad outcome.

I believe that you should say kind things about someone after they die, but I really hope the WGA holds back on the lovey huggies and keeps it to professional accolades, like he was a “worthy adversary,” a “tough negotiator” and “consummate professional.” That’s enough, right? Don’t need to say he had the eyes of a saint and the heart of a warrior bear (they are Hollywood writers, after all).

As for the above pic, I snapped this of Harlan Ellison at the Paramount gate in 2007. Prescient?

On that day, Ellison called Counter and the lot of his AMPTP colleagues rats and scumbags, if I remember correctly, in that hilarious but almost disturbingly angry Harlan Ellison way. But that’s why we love him.

Until Ellison sues me for posting this picture on my rinky-dink blog without his permission, that is. Spare me, Harlan Ellison legal team — I don’t want to sleep with the fishes!

It is very important to protect your work as soon as it has been completed. Here are a few steps you can do to protect your script: Register your work with either the WGA West, WGA East (Writers Guild of America) the WGC (Writers Guild of Canada) or, with a Copyright Canada or US Copyright. It’s unlikely a company will do this, but if possible, have a company sign a non-disclosure form (information on Google) before you submit your work to them.

An Intellectual Property (IP) lawyer could also be useful. For the most part though they will tell you to get a Copyright. If you can work out a deal where you send them your work so that it is “safe” with them, then kudos to you.

Another less sophisticated method is to send your work to yourself through the mail system. Make sure it stays sealed. It will have the date you sent the script to yourself, proof that your work has been written by you. Please don’t count on this method as a tried and true one. It is merely another method to use in addition to the others (Copyright, WGA, WGC, IP lawyer). The more secure you can make your work, the better off you will be in the long run.

If you are lucky to have your script optioned or bought outright you will need an entertainment lawyer, and an agent to help with your agreement.

The 2010 Guide to Literary Agents is one of the books you can use on “where and how to find the right agents to represent your work”.

Another book you might want to consider using is the 2002-2003 Writer’s Guide to Hollywood Producers Directors and Screenwriter’s Agents. This book has “Hundreds of Insider Tips from Hollywood Veterans”.

Good luck and “May the Force be with you”!

By Brian Green, Director of Marketing
SolidLine Media

Before his runner-up performance at the BMW Championship at Cog Hill this month, professional golfer Jim Furyk spent some time with the SolidLine crew while filming an introduction for the Western Golf Association’s new Caddie Training video. Furyk, currently ranked third in the PGA’s FedExCup Playoff standings, highlighted the vital role caddies play in the game of golf. He also encouraged young caddies to work towards an Evans Scholarship, which is a full 4-year tuition and boarding scholarship available only to caddies who excel both on the course and in the class. The involvement of Furyk in the SolidLine produced video will inspire thousands of teen caddies each year as they go through an extensive WGA caddie training at over 500 clubs across the country. The video will be released in January 2010.

So, it’s been the general opinion of this blog, its readers and the movie viewership of Americ

So, it’s been the general opinion of this blog, its readers and the movie viewership of America that Tyler Perry is the cheif anti-Oreo. What the spawn of satan will be to the end of days, TPear is to attempts to assimilate.

The Oreo Experience wonders now if this is the case.

Hear me out. While Tyler appears to stand for all that TOE detests, there are some key elements about him that may indicate is is a sheep in wolf’s clothing and perhaps, and this is a big perhaps, an Oreo deep down inside.

For example, Tyler Perry:

Exhibits a poor view of black people. His movies and shows rely on trite sterotypes to find the funny. Is he writing this way because it’s what makes money, or because it’s what he believes? If it was purely about capitalism, surely some of his truth would have seeped out by now and he would have made something pleasant. But the self-loathing evident in his product makes him a prime candidate for Oreodom.

Enjoys exploiting people of color. At his current rate of production, TP puts out a movie and nearly a full run of TV series a year. This means he has a slew of people working very hard so that he can make media junket appearances. Because he runs “black” shows, and because he chose to settle in Atlanta, most of his employees are of color. Notably, his writers, who Perry seemingly prevented from joining their union during their employ. Only relatively recently, and after millions in his own pockets did TP give in.

Is intmidated by Spike Lee. Thanks to blogger Belle Woods for reposting comments on Tyler Perry’s reaction to director Spike Lee. Apparently Spike called TP on the carpet for his portrayal of black people. Tyler fought back, claiming that Madea is really a subversive way of instilling value in the viewers. Now, while a true Oreo would invite Spike over for scones and conversation, a self loather would take the same emotional stance as the fairer folks and tuck tail a bit when Lee speaks.

The jury is still definitely out. But I’m keeping my eye on him. Maybe he’ll surprise me.

Or maybe we’ll get a new summer blockbuster: Madea Does Dallas.

SAG stats: Diversity lags Minorities, seniors, females underrepresented By DAVE MCNARYMore Articles:

SAG stats: Diversity lags
Minorities, seniors, females underrepresented

By DAVE MCNARYMore Articles:

Minorities, seniors and female actors have achieved few gains in recent years in the number of film and TV roles they receive, according to casting stats released by the Screen Actors Guild.

“The diverse and multicultural world we live in today is still not accurately reflected in the portrayals we see on the screen,” SAG president Ken Howard said in a statement. “We will continue to work with producers, hiring executives and industry professionals in accurately portraying the American scene by ensuring equal access to employment opportunities for all of our members.”

The latest statistics, released Friday, showed minority performers reached a high mark in 2007, with 29.3% of total roles, and then declined last year to 27.5%.

The breakdown of film and TV roles for 2008 was 72.5% Caucasian, 13.3% African-American, 6.4% Latino-Hispanic, 3.8 Asian-Pacific Islander, 0.3% Native American and 3.8% other-unknown. SAG noted in its report that U.S. Census data from 2000 showed that the nation’s population was 73.4% Caucasian, 11.5% African-American, 10.6% Latino-Hispanic, 3.7% Asian-Pacific Islander and 0.8% Native American.

Producers who are signatory to SAG contracts are required to submit hiring data in order to examine the trends of “traditionally underemployed and disenfranchised members.”

SAG also noted that people with disabilities remain “virtually invisible” in casting even though 20% of the U.S. population has a disability.

SAG, AFTRA, Actors Equity and the WGA held the inaugural Hollywood Disabilities Forum at UCLA on Saturday.

The report noted that male actors continue to fill the majority of roles, especially in the supporting category, with about two roles for every female role.

The picture did improve slightly for older thesps.

Roles have increased for males 40 and over, with film parts up from 40% in 2006 to 43% in 2008, while TV roles increased from 40% to 42% in that period; roles for females 40 and over rose in film and TV from 26% in 2006 to 28% last year.

SAG also said that Asian-Pacific thesps were the only minority group to gain from 2007 to 2008, increasing from 3.4% to 3.8%, thanks to gains in TV.

Carol Lombardini to top AMPTP
Org names new president
By DAVE MCNARY

The key players for the next round of guild contract talks are now in place. With another complex set of labor negotiations looming, the majors opted for stability by promoting Carol Lombardini to prexy of the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers. Her appointment comes eight months after Nick Counter announced his retirement following nearly 30 years as the majors’ top labor negotiator.
Lombardini is likely to face a much different dynamic in the next round of talks than she and Counter experienced in the last round, when the WGA went on strike for 100 days and SAG took a year to close its feature-primetime deal.
Presidential elections at the WGA West and SAG last month ushered in regime changes and leaders who have vowed to tone down the confrontational rhetoric that characterized the 2007-08 contract talks.
Still, the guilds and AMPTP will have to grapple with issues regarding new-media compensation, as they evaluate the residual formulas that were introduced in the most recent contracts. They’ll also likely have to address shortcomings in the guild-sponsored health and pension plans, which have been battered by the economic downturn.
The AMPTP is contractually bound to begin negotiations with SAG this time next year for the successor to the contract that expires June 30, 2011, as does the DGA deal. The WGA’s pact expires two months earlier.
Lombardini has been involved in more than 300 negotiations during a 27-year career at the AMPTP. She’s been acting prexy since Counter’s departure in March.
In the end, Lombardini was the unanimous choice among the AMPTP member companies following interviews with half a dozen candidates. Sony Pictures topper Michael Lynton, Warner Bros. chairman-CEO Barry Meyer and NBC Universal chief Jeff Zucker made up the committee that oversaw the selection process.
Lombardini, viewed as more low-key than Counter, has specialized in the drafting and interpretation of contract language, while Counter focused on negotiations and strategy — a complex task given the different priorities for the congloms that dominate the AMPTP.
“I look forward to leading the AMPTP as the businesses of our member companies evolve,” Lombardini said. “I am also committed to building on my longstanding relations with our bargaining partners across the entertainment industry. The most important challenge we face is finding ways for the companies and guilds and unions to reach agreements that do everything possible to keep the business vital.”
Counter was able to maintain labor peace in Hollywood for much of his tenure at the AMPTP but became a much-vilified figure during the WGA’s walkout. Counter’s stance on new media and strategy of pursuing the controversial notion of shifting all residual formulas to a recoupment-based blueprint was widely viewed as helping solidify the resolve of WGA members to support the strike.
Studio honchos have been pleased with recent political developments within the unions. SAG has seen its leadership tilt toward a more moderate stance in the past two elections, as illustrated by Ken Howard’s appointment as prexy last month. John Wells took the reins of the WGA West, a move seen as a vote by scribes to tap into his biz relationships and experience in contract negotiations.
When Counter announced his retirement in February, the AMPTP employed a search firm that interviewed about a dozen candidates. It’s understood that Lomdardini emerged as the favorite due to her extensive background in hammering out the nuances of the labor agreements.
“She has a proven track record as a negotiator, deep knowledge of labor issues and excellent relationships throughout the industry with guilds, unions and the member companies alike,” Meyer said in a statement.
Lombardini, an attorney by training, has served as general counsel; VP of legal affairs; senior VP of legal and business affairs; and exec VP of legal and business affairs.

My two loglines for my two scripts, which are posted on Inktip are:

The Flying Dutchman by Devorah Abrams Farmer
Johan, also known as The Flying Dutchman, uses his boat the “Wild Irish Rose” for drug trafficking under the guise of selling valuable artwork. Professor Michael O’Donnell is drawn into competing against him for more than just Fiona’s affections. All of them are linked to an ancient Irish myth, a message in a bottle, and a mysterious painting “The Flying Dutchman”.

The Go-Between by Devorah Abrams Farmer
The mayhem begins when a “Go-Between” is hired to help two men from rival Mafia families marry one another’s fiancées.

The world is a mercurial and ever changing place. Continuous improvement, career enhancement and professional development are buzzwords that permeate every industry, even ours. So you think you know everything about screenwriting after reading a few books by Christopher Vogler, Linda Seger or Syd Field, think again. You always need to update your skills or even refresh them. Most of what you hear will be a rehash or reinterpretation of what you already know, but repetition is part of the learning process. Many success and self help gurus profess that you should align yourself with your heroes. Find out what they do and try do imitate it, but with your own spin. There is no formula for success. The long, hard road is really the only way. There are some fly by nighters who manage to sell a script quickly, but they rarely have longevity because they lack the gravitas and basis to proceed.

I’ve mentioned books and podcasts, now it’s youtube. Key in search screenwriting and see what comes up; lots of exciting interviews with masters and mistresses of the trade. They inspire and lead all writers by guiding us along the journey of screenwriting. Here are some of my favourites:

Paul Haggis on Screenwriting
Peter And Bobby Farrelly on Tricks of the Trade
Simon Kinberg on Dialogue
The Dialogue Series
Kurtzmann & Orci on Screenwriting
Callie Khouri on Screenwriting
Susannah Grant on Tricks Of The Trade
Nia Vardalos on Dialogue
Paul Attanasio on Dialogue
Syd Field with Stuart Beattie
Advice for Screenwriters by Walt Disney Pictures Executive
Breaking into Hollywood
Attracting a Literary Agent

This is by no means an exhaustive list, but a good start nonetheless.

If you get square eyes watching videos, try reading. Any script you can get your hand on. Look for styles. Enjoy the whiteness of the page, the lack of huge chunks of dialogue and the clarity of award winning scripts. I love reading descriptions. I remember reading “she entered his grotty studio apartment that would even make a cockroach feel claustrophobic”. Visualize that!

Check out the WGA library in West Hollywood or your local library or writers’ guild. If you don’t want to leave the house, try the online script sites such as Simply Scripts, Drew’s Script-o-rama and imdbs.

Or avea unele nu zic.

I know it’s been a while, but I finally have something worth blogging about: Fact!

My computer recently downloaded a Microsoft Windows Update called Microsoft Genuine Advantage. Even though I have a perfectly legitimate copy of Office, the advantage software did not like it. Well, I did not like the software telling me what to do, so I took matters into my own hands, hitting the blogs hard to find the answer.

Turns out there are many answers out there, so here’s the short of what I did. You’ll need some medium to semi-advanced computer skills to achieve the win, I think.

This website has a pretty nice walkthough, listed here:

“Step-by-Step Guide to Solve
====================
PART 1 – Uninstall the related update (KB949810)
1. open Command prompt: Start > Run > type “cmd” (without quotes) > press “Enter”
2. paste/ type following command, then press “Enter”:
msiexec.exe /uninstall {B148AB4B-C8FA-474B-B981-F2943C5B5BCD}
* note: a “Microsoft Installer” will popup to uninstall “OGA Notifier” automatically. No user interaction needed.

PART 2 – Kill the Tray Icon
1. open Task Manager (either press Ctrl-Shift-Esc / right click on task bar, select Task Manager)
2. kill “WGATray.exe”
3. go to your Windows system32 folder (default is C:\WINDOWS\system32\)
4. from the menu of the file manager, select Tools > Folder options…
5. select “show hidden files and folders” and uncheck “hide protected system files”
6. locate WGATray.exe and WGALogon.dll
7. rename them to WGATray.old and WGALogon.old
8. open Command Prompt again.
9. type/ paste the following command, then press “Enter”:
regsvr32 %Windir%\system32\LegitCheckControl.dll /u
10. Restart computer

Part 3 – Cleaning up (Optional)
1. delete WGATray.exe, WGALogon.dll and LegitCheckControl.dll from your Windows system32 folder
2. delete registry using Registry Editor (regedit)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\WgaLogon
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\WgaLogon
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\removeremove\WgaNotify

After doing the above, you are free from OGA’s annoying message. Yet, you have to manually disable the patch from Automatic Update.”

Now, the problem I ran into was with part one, which was answered in a comment at the bottom of the blog:

“The code {B148AB4B-C8FA-474B-B981-F2943C5B5BCD} is specific to the US-English installation.

For instance Swedish {DB427EF6-F13E-4AA6-9D40-5D962394774F}, and UK-English {B2544A03-10D0-4E5E-BA69-0362FFC20D18}.

To find out what data ID your OGA Notifier uses for your locale you have to:
1. Run: Regedit
2. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurentVersion\Uninstall
3. Here you will find several folders with a similar data ID name. Go into each and every one of them and look for the REG_SZ name: [DisplayName]. This should show something like “Office Genuine Advatage…” or “OGA”.
4. Once you find it perform the same steps as described but replace the data ID with your ID. in “PART I”"

Also, another problem was with deleting WGALogon.dll – I found some AMAZING free software here: http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

This freeware allows you to basically kill the processes that windows is running that are locking up the file, in effect “unlocking” the file that you need to dispose of. Wish I had access to this program a few years ago.

Anyway, I did a bit more noodling around in Regedit and cleaned out some more WGA stuff, and after a quick restart, it was gone. The first restart blue screened my compy out, which worried me, but a second, hard restart yielded satisfactory results.

*NOTE* – If your copy of Office is pirated, I don’t support using this process on it, of course.

Hope this helps.
