There’s probably a rare wheel thread on most major forums, always great to check out. For the last year or so I’ve been looking for a set of wheels I had back in the day, Momo I.D.E.A.s. There weren’t many around back then and these days they just NEVER seem to pop up, ever. Yea, they’re goofy looking, which is the primary reason I want another set now. This pic is from around 1993 or so, the black Talon was mine on OZ mesh, the Capri was a family fun car for whoever wanted to take it out and it wore 14″ I.D.E.A.s. I knew a guy named Matt back then that had a set of 15s on a Corolla FX16 hatch, I loved that car. If a set of 4×100 15s popped up around tax refund time I think my head would explode.

You might be familiar with that you need some motorcycle parts for your bike. You just might not get how you are supposed to choose the fine ones from the bad ones. What must you search for or whom can you trust? When you start making a search for your motorcycle parts, you might realize that everyone everywhere has the same sort of parts and that you can just go down the street and pick them up; this is the last thing that you really need to do. The warranty is one of the most significant things but you must also be familiar with what other things might come with the part that you select Does it come with a gasket or are you going to have to purchase it separately? The particular scenario can make the price more than what you might have originally thought when you started buying your motorcycle parts. You can also get used motorcycle parts, but you would not have any sort of warranty that says that they would keep working or even work in the first place for you.
This makes it a little risky on whether you must buy them, even if the price is fine. You in fact just need to take the time to search for the right motorcycle parts for what you are doing and you need to understand the questions that you are supposed to be asking before you purchase them. This would help you to get the right part for your requirements, in addition to, getting it done right the first time. If you find a good quality motorbike engine  parts for your bike, you won’t have to alter it out later. You would like to have fun when you are riding your bike, not worry about the motorcycle parts that you put on it last week and whether they are going to stay in working condition.

With an increasing number of holiday festivities being held in the home this year, we’re all looking for creative and cost effective ways to spruce up our table settings and create a look that will impress our guests. When it comes to setting your Thanksgiving table, options for the adventurous host are limitless. What are the hottest trends for you to bring to your table this year? Here are a few ideas that will take your Thanksgiving table from ordinary to extraordinary:

Color, Texture and Mix – Match:

In table linens and accessories, this year we are seeing rich, saturated colours. We are also seeing a lot of texture and the mixing and matching of patterns with solids. There are a lot of options out there to do something warm and inviting.

Color Trends

Warm tones have always been popular for Fall and that continues with some of the biggest trends in colour combinations this year. Some of those include:
- Deep Spice and Aubergine with muted Gold accents – Dark Chocolate with Blues and Gray accents – Olive Green, Aubergine and softer greens as accents – Dark Chocolate, Taupe and Natural

Tabletop Decor

- Use things that you already have in your home – pull out your 3 or 4 of your favourite vases of different heights. Use complementary colors of fresh flowers for a simple and stunning arrangement. Fill three or four vases and/or glass bowls with different colors and sizes of ornaments, fruits, leaves – anything with color and texture that will create visual excitement.

- Your guests are all unique – why not celebrate their individuality? Use different patterns and/or colors of napkin rings that match their unique personalities. Are they simple or sophisticated? Fun or formal? Unpredictable or conservative? Show them you care with a little customization to complement your table linens.

- Candles are always a dramatic and cost effective way to make a statement – use votives at each place setting with a name card and emphasize beautiful table linens for a classy and simple look. Or go more dramatic and cluster your favourite candle sticks of varying heights and looks as a centerpiece. Use colors that complement or match your dishes, glasses and table linens.

- Nothing brings subtle sophistication to your table like a well-selected runner. Use one the length of the table plus 12 inches to hang over the edge (usually a 90″ or longer) as the perfect centerpiece. If you are using a solid tablecloth or placemats, make sure to jazz it up with a festive pattern. If you have a patterned look already, use a vibrant solid runner that picks up on one of the colors in your runner.

- Use 2 napkins instead of one with a napkin ring. With a solid napkin inside, and a more decorative napkin on the outside.

When setting your table, just remember: do what feels right for the mood. A casual gathering calls for a relaxed setting. A formal meal should feel that way at the table. Either way, it doesn’t take much to elevate your in-home dining experience. Replacing an old tablecloth with something fresh an exciting, and adding a few simple table accessories can go a long way to impressing your guests. It’s that time of year when family gatherings abound and everyone spends countless hours congregating around the dinner table. With the hours spent preparing the perfect meal, make sure you don’t forget to finish it off with the perfect setting.

Suitcases remind me of Corrie Ten Boom’s “The Hiding Place.” The part I remember most is when she’s asking her father about where babies come from – yeah, that question – and her father did something all cool dads should do: he told her to lift his suitcase off the floor, and she, as a young girl, wasn’t strong enough to do so. And he said that that was his answer – there are just some things she can’t handle because of the weight that comes with them, and that was the case with her question. And I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I vowed that if I ever have kids and they ask me that question, and they’re too young to know, I’d do the exact same thing that Corrie’s father did.

I digress. Sort-of.

Sometimes, on Saturdays, I would commute to the suburbs to visit my aunt. And the delicious cakes she bakes. I’d bring my laundry along with me as well, because the price to do laundry is phenomenally high in downtown Chicago (well, compared to using my aunt’s washing machine, which is free). So can you imagine what (additional) pains I’d go through, if no one had thought of putting wheels on suitcases? So that’s my delight for the day: Suitcases on wheels. And who’d have believed that people only thought to do this in the early 1900’s?

I have created this blog in order to create a common platform where one can get various links and news about current issues and entertainment. I would be grateful for your suggestions and postings.

Just discovered Pour Toujours, a lovely Etsy shop based in Montreal with great vintage French games and books, mostly targeted toward children. I especially love the Je me renseigne books. Oh, and Mille Bornes — I’m still bitter that my mom ditched our set when we were younger. GRR!

No, this isn’t a firehouse post.  Keep reading!  However, Flickr has washed their hands of my problem, so I’ve forwarded their last email to IT Auntie, and hopefully she can figure out what is going on.  Sigh.

Almost two years ago, I got talked into my first spinning classes.  I earnestly believed they really were just to give me a working knowledge of fibers.  Several of you laughed knowingly.  I hated the drop spindle, but bought one anyway.  Long story short, I eventually bought a sweet little Bellus wheel from Heavenly Handspinning.

I called him Bellus for over a year, knowing that he needed a name of his own.  I’ve never cared for the practice of calling people by their last names, which I guess is how my crazy mind categorized the name Bellus.

Why yes, that is the wee one, wondering why the Siren is on top of the hot tub…  She’s turned out to be no trouble at all when I spin.  I do have to put my fiber up when I step away, even for a second, but she’s content to snugle at my side, sit in my lap (not my favorite spot for her while I’m spinning!), or she’ll go play, all without ever jarring the wheel.

Perhaps this would be a better post if I’d cropped the photos, but deal with it, okay?  Y’all can pop over to Flickr and look at any of the photos in whatever size suits you, and yes… that was typed with some bitterness.

Double treadle and a free wheel inspection

At any rate,  here’s a photo of the treadles.    That’s a must for me – two peddles, to keep me centered while I spin.  That’s also why I love a castle-style wheel, meaning one that doesn’t look like the spinning wheel most of you think of when you hear the words.

The Siren is a great little wheel.   You can read the specs on the link above, but it’s under ten pounds – another requirement for me and my back – and yet it is solid-feeling.  I’d never spun with Irish tension before I ordered Bellus, but I like the simplicity of it. 

For those of you who don’t spin, the left side is where I sit,  and the right side is the “back” of the wheel.  Again, it’s a very simple set-up, and it was great to learn on a wheel with so few parts.

Orafice and the not-inspector

I am half-heartedly shopping for another wheel, but not because there’s anything wrong with The Siren.  The Siren is a great little wheel, and I wish it got more press and respect.  It is less expensive than many wheels on the market, but that doesn’t reflect inferior craftsmanship.  The Fords make a nice wheel, mostly of wood, under 10 pounds and under $250.  Jan spins laceweight regularly on her wheel (a single treadle, I believe).

See Sissy up there?  She and The Siren aren’t friends.  While Gretchen likes the creature that allows her to snort fiber, Sissy finds the spacetakerupper very annoying.   It’s almost always precisely where she’d like to sit, stand, walk, etc. 

Now, about the name.  Ruth gets the credit.  She left a comment about a week ago, cautioning me about ”the siren call of Bellus” and it clicked!  Of course a former firefighter, now married to a fire chief, would have a wheel named after something related to the fire service.  I’d considered other variations names siren-related, but nothing else felt right.  I love a siren, and rather demand to operate said noisemaker when I do run a call.

I like an air horn – a real air horn, not some electric or computer-generated knock-off  – but there are no poetic references to an air horn, unless we make the leap to a fog horn on a ship, and I don’t believe those tie in to spinning so well.

So, what’s up for your weekend?  I don’t have a single thing planned, other than getting the fur-girls out for some walks while the weather is nice.  More reading – I’m almost finished with Underdog – and of course, some spinning and knitting.  I do have an FO, but I’m waiting to see if it fits first!

Sobrio y sin florituras, así es el último videoclip de Foo Fighters. ¿Pero para qué más?, y que nadie me llame conformista. Hilando fino, el hecho de que ninguno de sus integrantes aparezca disfrazado como en Learn to Fly o tocando en extrañas circunstancias como en The Pretender es  en sí un atractivo, cuanto menos una curiosidad. Es más, esta canción acompañada por un simple fondo negro habría dado lugar a un buen vídeo. Ésa es la clave, la música, música extraída directamente de un recopilatorio de original título, Greatest Hits, el primero en 14 años de vida de la banda. Entonces os preguntaréis qué tiene de novedoso un tema de un disco así, con dos años de antigüedad garatizados como mínimo, ¿no?

Aquí está el truco. Wheels es una de las dos canciones inéditas que contiene el álbum, aunque a diferencia de la otra (Word Forward) cuenta con clip. Por otro lado, está bien eso de ver una vez más a Dave Grohl y compañía en el mismo plano… para tranquilizar al personal. El líder del grupo ha participado en la creación de la superbanda Them Crooked Vultures, con la cual ha publicado su primer disco,  y quieras que no es inevitable sentir el aleteo de la mosca detrás de la oreja.  Vamos, que tenemos Foo Fighters para rato,  y si no me creéis ahí están juntos nuevamente para demostrarlo.
