"Quoi ?! 29/40 c'est tout ce qu'on vaut ?!"

Je ne vais pas écrire un pavé critique sur White Knight Story, le J-RPG attendu comme un gros blockbuster sur PS3 en attendant les deux Final Fantsy 13, mais je vais comparer sa note Famitsu avec celles des autres jeux développés par Level 5 sur les consoles de salon de Sony. Il n’y aura donc aucune circonstance atténuante ni justification au 29/40 qui vient de lui être décerné.

- Dark Cloud (PS2, 2000) : 28/40 : un des premiers RPG de la PS2, tout juste passable selon la presse internationale.

- Dark Chronicle (PS2, 2002) : 35/40 : globalement apprécié.

- Dragon Quest 8 (PS2, 2004) : 39/40 : considéré comme un des meilleurs RPG de la console, acclamé par l’ensemble de la presse internationale.

- Rogue Galaxy (PS2, 2005) : 36/40 : accueil mitigé, entre le bon RPG et la déception.

- et…. White Knight Story (PS3, 2008) : 29/40.

Je crois que c’est clair. Malgré tout ce qu’on peut dire sur Famitsu, le comparatif des notes qu’il donne aux jeux d’un même développeur est assez parlant pour pouvoir se faire une idée de leur qualité globale. Sur 5 RPG Level 5 sur PS2 et PS3, seuls deux ont moins de 30/40, ce qui chez Famitsu est synonyme d’assez mauvais jeu, le magazine notant très généreusement les RPG et les jeux japonais. 

De manière purement arythmétique, il apparait que White Knight Story est le Dark Cloud de la PS3 (29/40 et 28/40), un des premiers RPG de la console, et assez médiocre qui plus est.

Ayant pu jouer à Rogue Galaxy et Dragon Quest 8, je dois dire que ces jeux ont déjà été surnotés et sont de mon point de vue très faibles sur le plan de la narration, du level design, et surtout du gameplay, malgré quelques très bonnes idées dans Rogue Galaxy. Il est donc clair que White Knight Story est un jeu moyen, certainement insuffisant, largement moins bien noté que des Last Remnant (38/40) ou Infinite Undiscovery (34/40) qui sont eux-même loin d’être des chef d’oeuvres.

Bref, rien de nouveau sous le soleil, les aficionados moutonniers de Sony l’ont encore dans l’os, à avoir acheté une console uniquement dans l’expectative.

ADDENDUM : J’ai lu sur quelques forums des joueurs décridibliser totalement Famitsu en disant “de toute façon Lost Odyssey a aussi été enfoncé par toute la presse… blablabla” : FAUX. C’était en parti vrai en Occident mais pas du tout au Japon. Famitsu lui décerné un 36/40 et Famitsu 360 un 33/40, ce qui est largement plus élevé que White Knight Story. De plus, je rappelle que 29/40 dans ce magazine ça n’équivaut pas à 14,5/20. C’est sur 40, pas sur 20. Quand un jeu se ramasse entre 27 et 30/40, il dépasse pas le 13/20 et le 6/10 en Occident (sauf rares exceptions).

Nell’ultimo numero, la rivista giapponese Dengeki PlayStation ha svelato un interessantissimo dettaglio riguardante White Knight Story, RPG in esclusiva PS3 sviluppato da Level-5. Il gioco includerà una modalità di gioco cooperativa online, del tutto distaccata dall’avventura principale. Nonostante ciò, in questa inattesa modalità potremo vestire i panni dei principali personaggi della storia e, girando per incantevoli paesaggi, potremo partecipare a partite per un massimo di 16 giocatori (divisi in gruppi da 4). Ricordiamo che White Knight Chronicles sarà giocabile al Tokyo Game Show, per cui vi aggiorneremo al più presto in caso di novità.

While we await official confirmation of a rumored Dec. 25 release date for Sony and Level-5’s top-tier console RPG, White Knight Story, Japan’s Dengeki PlayStation reports that the game will feature online co-op for up to four players. As detailed in the magazine’s latest issue, the online component will employ a lobby system for match-making, with each room maxing out at 16 players. Up to four players can then form an adventuring party and tackle quests with the aid of in-game chat. Whether these are online-specific quests – or if the chat is voice-based – is unclear; hopefully we’ll get some answers when Tokyo Game Show gets underway tomorrow (late tonight for us in Canada and the States).

O novo RPG da Level-5 para o PS3 (mesmos criadores de Star Wars: Rogue Galaxy), White Knight Chronicles tem novas informações. A história do jogo terá mais de 100 horas, os gráficos serão em 1080p nativos, haverá um sistema de batalha dinâmico, onde você pode transformar um personagem “regular” num “White Knight” e jogatina em modo cooperativo estará disponível, pela PSN.

Po około rocznej przerwie do sieci zaczęło trafiać coraz więcej nowych informacji na temat White Knight Chronicles (PS3), jak to określił Akihiro Hino, szef Level 5, największego projektu w historii jego studia. Prawdziwego wysypu powinniśmy oczekiwać po tegorocznym Tokyo Game Show za parę dni, choć już dziś jedna z japońskich stron podała do wiadomości garść nowych szczegółów z materiałów promocyjnych tego tytułu. Jak możemy się dowiedzieć, L5 obiecuje nawet 100 godzin rozgrywki, a oprócz tego wsparcie PSN z sugerowaną możliwością kooperacji. Z wcześniejszych zapowiedzi powtórzono ponadto support pełnego HD (1080p).

White Knight Chronicles (jap. Shirokishi Monogatari: Furu no Kodou) trafi do sprzedaży w grudniu. Obecnie gra zajmuje 9. miejsce na liście najczęściej zamawianych produktów w dziale z grami w japońskim Amazonie.

The upcoming huge RPG game from Level 5 White Knight Chronicles (White Knight Story) features a unique hyper-real character creation system. Its quite good that they were able to replicate idol Yuko Ogura into the game. What makes WKS different from the other RPGs like oblivion is that the characters still stay rooted in the real of an anime stylistic character. I did not liked the character designs in Oblivion which were looking too bland and not really appealing.White Knight Story is sure to look sweet. Now I can make my favourite idol stars into the game. I do hope I can make portrait of Hirano Aya.

Level-5 anunció que su esperadísimo juego White Knight Story cambió un poco su nombre fuera de Japón y ha pasado a llamarse simplemente White Knight Chronicles.

Este RPG seguirá llamándose Shirokishi Monogatari en el país del sol naciente, y saldrá a la venta el próximo año para PlayStation 3.

Cela faisait un petit moment que l’on entendait plus parler du projet de Level 5 sur PS3 et puis tout d’un coup c’est la timbale avec date de sortie et images avant des révélations promises pour le Tokyo GameShow prochain. Les japonais passeront un bon noël puisque le jeu est prévu pour le 25 décembre de cette année. Bien que la PS3 est freezone, je crois bien que la barrière de la langue aura raison de nous.
