I happened to be in a Coffee Beanery with a friend this morning.  We were speaking with another customer (who happens to be a white guy) about live entertainment which used to take place at that location on certain weekends.  The guy was describing another guy who would come up there frequently to sing while playing the keyboard.  He seemed familiar, so I asked, “is he a white guy?”

At which point, my friend nudges me.  I was not only confused but a little embarrassed because it wasn’t like the guy whom we were talking to, missed that.  He totally saw the whole thing and tried to blow it off as if he didn’t.  After he walked away (the guy was not white but black, by the way. Wrong guy),  I turned to my friend and just waited…but she didn’t say anything.

So I decided to start it off, “umm. Ouch? That hurt.  Care to explain what that was all about?”

It boiled down to her feeling as if it was RUDE of me to say….white?  WTF?  Why are we so hung up on those type of things these days.  Racism has screwed us up to the point that we are afraid to describe one another.  I completely get it when it comes to mistaking a Japanese man for a Chinese man!!  Come on!!  Have we gotten that paranoid that we can not say black or white?  In public, for goodness sake!!!

At this point, I could care less what you are claiming to be in regards to race.  Have you ever had a conversation with ANYONE in public and you happened to be in a place that was very diverse?  Did this person go to describe someone and bring their voice all the way down to a whisper when they said the word white, black, Mexican, Arab, Jewish…..?  Get my drift?   How about YOU, reader?  Are you accused of this as well?

I once had a political science professor who would get nervous (seems to me) whenever he had to say black people or white people.  Especially, black people.   He would say,  “white p-p-pe’-ople” and then,  b-b-b-b-black p-p-pe’ople.”   This guy does NOT have a stuttering problem!!  Okay?

Back to my friend:  She claimed that she would have preferred if I had utilized the word Caucasian.  GET THE (BONKKK!) OUTTA HERE??!!!

I prefer to be called black/Black, African American (although I don’t feel that there is a such thing as AFRO American), AMERICAN, or even “of color.”  As long as I’m not called the N-word, which I have been a couple of times– by an older white woman and also a younger white woman.  As long as I am not called coon, monkey, tar baby, colored gal,  fat girl (oops)—get my drift?

The topic of this discussion is Race/Realtionships.

Question:    Hi, My name is Andrea. I’m twenty-eight. I’m an African American woman. Never married. No kids. And I’m proud of my life! I date mostly my race. But I have dated outside my race too. I prefer to date Black men. About 98% of my dates have been black men. Majority of the time, I’m not attractive to white or other non black men. I’m like other African American women, we mainly prefer black men. Just like most white men prefer white women.

Frankly, I am getting sick and tired of some black men dating a lot of these white women. Also I’m not alone in this regard. A bunch of these trifling socalled brothas love to dissed us sistas, and date only these barbie doll girls. I don’t really care who they date. That’s them. They can date their white women, but they don’t got to talk bad about us! A lot of the time, it’s these brothas that’s no good. Not us sistas. I know not all black men act like this. But a lot of them do. It seems to me, they are affected by the slave mentality more than black women.

At least, we stick with our race mostly. Whenever a black woman do date outside her race, it’s because maybe she fell in love with this man, not because he’s a certain race. So, Denise, Cheyenne-what do y’all think about this. Y’all talk about this kind of thing off and on, but y’all never go into a lot of detail with it. Like I said, it don’t bother me to see black men with non black women, but what does bother me is when these niggas dissed and talk stuff about black women.

They say that they are going by their bad experiences with a few black women, but not all of us are like that. You can’t group certain people together and say all of them are like that. What these men need to understand is that if they keep meeting the socalled jack asses-then maybe they need to check themselves. Maybe it’s them that are the jack asses, not the women!

Answer:  (Cheyenne)  Andrea, I understand what you are saying. But I have to say, I don’t agree with black men being affected by the so called slave mentality more than black women. A lot of people are like that. All across the world. For generations, people were taught this very narrow minded, way of looking a certain way is better than people that don’t look like that.

Til this day, in other foreign countries-a lot of people think they are cursed, if they are not a lighter complexion and not male. Women are brainwashed to believe that if they only can have daughters instead of sons, then they are cursed as well. Plus, these folks try to lighten their skin color so they can fit into that ignorant mentality.

But to your point again, it’s true that African American men and Caucasian women make up most of the interracial relationships, especially in America. Even though the percentage of mix relationships are small, but they are on the rise. In today’s generation, it is more acceptable to younger folks. And they seem to engage in it more than some older people.

It all comes down to each person’s preference when they are deciding whom to date. But they should also know that by paying attention only to the outside, they are setting themselves up for disaster in their social lives.

Denise:    I agree with Cheyenne’s points one hundred percent. It’s true that black men are not affected by the slave mentality any more than black women. Anybody can be affected by it, if they let their minds get carried away. Racism and ignorance towards anybody is a waste of time and shouldn’t be on anybody’s radar.

I know because I use to be a racist. I had to let it go because it only makes it harder on you, not the people you’re hating on. Just like I mention before in previous posts, skin color like beauty is only skin deep. You would be cheating yourself out of a real relationship if you focus only on race.

I have heard so many white men and black women disapproving when they see a black man alongside a white woman. The gossip becomes a negative mixture of racism, sexism, and pure ignorance. It’s definitely not the way to go. It is a shame when some black men diss black women and put white women on a higher statue. There I agree with you, Andrea- that the only jack ass is them not the women they’re talking about. Just because you dated a few women that you  think did not  check your favorites list on your radar, doesn’t mean that all the women of that race are like that.

Again this set of thinking can go to anybody, any race. But people put this mentality with black men because a lot of them seem to be set with it more than everybody else. Anyway, that’s what people seem to notice in the media and other everyday situations. People should just give others chances, stop hating or being racist towards people that you don’t even know, perhaps will never know. This type of attitude says more about you, than it does about other people.

Obama ‘Reaches Out’ by Naming ‘Devout’ Muslims to Security Posts

The new member is Syrian-born Kareem Shora, who was the national executive director of the Arab-American Anti-Discrimination (ADC), which previously has called on the United States to stop providing Israel with weapons because of alleged “atrocities” against Arabs. Her background for her new security post is having been a legal counsel and advocate for Muslim civil rights.

She also has been a frequent guest on the pro-Hamas al-Jazeera satellite network.

Shora, who has been described as a “devout Muslim, joins another devout member of the faith, Arif Alikhan, who was appointed as Assistant Secretary for Policy Development in the Department of Homeland Security. His qualifications for the job were listed as having been in charge of public safety in Los Angeles during his term of deputy mayor. One of his actions was to remove the plan that tracked Muslims in the city who were suspected of terrorist activities.

Americans have been jolted by several lethal attacks and confrontations with Muslims over the past year, including a plot to attack synagogues and down U.S. military aircraft, the manufacture of bombs, an alleged attempt to explode a Texas skyscraper, a plot to blow up malls in Boston, and last month’s Fort Hood massacre by a Muslim psychiatrist who was an officer in the army.

A desire to avoid the appearance of labeling all Muslims as terrorists lunged out from the shadows last month after President Obama faced criticism for not taking seriously the threat of Muslim terrorism within American society as well as in the Middle East, Asia and Africa.

Several months ago, President Obama appointed Dalia Mogahed, a “devout Muslim,” to his Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. She quickly came under fire for appearing in a telephone interview on a London-based Muslim television station, whose host is a member of an extreme Islamic group.

She said was unaware of the affiliations of her host, whose program included questions and comments favoring the implementation of Islamic Law (“sharia”).

Mogahed explained that she did not hang up the phone in the middle of the interview because “I assumed that very few people would watch this show but that doing something more dramatic would bring more attention.”

In the current issue of Newsweek, columnist Jacob Weisberg, citing former Secretary of State Colin Powell, wrote that “Obama’s [Muslim] heritage feeds a broader suspicion that he is too casual about the threat from America’s Islamist enemies.”

The journalist added, “With the massacre in Texas, Obama now confronts something that George W. Bush did not face in the years after September 11—not just a major act of domestic terrorism, but one struck from inside our security apparatus…. America does not face a threat from the perversion of faith in general. We face a threat from the perversion of one faith in particular.”

My Grandfather is in his late 90’s.  God bless him.  He is and was a great Grandpa.  I went to visit him recently and came to realize something as i sat and listened to all his senior citizen Mexican buddies.  They all hate black people. 

         Why is it that most plus 65-year-old Mexican people don’t like African-Americans?  I would think that they would have a natural bond from being exposed to discrimination.  My Grandpa would tell me stories about being beaten up by gangs of sailors, all of which were white, and being forced to eat meals at restaurants outside if there were any white patrons inside.  If anything he and all his home boys should hate whitey.

There’s a common myth out there that racism is something confined to the South, as if the only racists out there live in Mississippi.

That is absolutely false. Racism is everywhere, in the most unexpected places. The worst types of racism, in fact, are perpetrated outside the South.

Racism exists in the highest places of our government and our businesses. It exists in our government, when out of 100 U.S. Senators, 96 are white and 83 are men. It exists when the white male boss decides to promote the white male instead of the better-skilled Latino woman, and when his white male boss promotes him instead of the more hard-working black co-worker – until 97.2% of the 500 Fortune CEOs are white and the first black woman became a Fortune 500 CEO just this year!

Racism exists in the hallowed halls of Harvard and Yale, when admissions officers reject Mr. Chen in favor of Mr. Smith, because Jews Asians are too smart and the white male admissions director has to make sure there that Harvard College has no more than 20% of Jews Asians (unless you’re Princeton and you’re sued, in which case the percent of Asians magically goes up from 14% to 20%).

Racism and sexism exists on the liberal The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, when out of a panel of ten writers, nine are white and every single one is male. And that’s not even taking into account shows like “Late Show,” “Jay Leno” and “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” – which altogether have zero female writers!

Racism exists when one looks at the inner cities of America and the suburbs surrounding them and finds one all black or Latino and the other all white, because of white flight catalyzed by racism. That’s why poor inner-city Philadelphia County is 47.5% black, while rich suburban Bucks County is 91.5% white. It was rich white suburban Montegomery County, not Alabama, after all, where a private pool club kicked out a class of poor black kids.

Racism exists when one looks to those inner-city schools and finds them full of poor Latinos and blacks, when there does exist a substantial population of rich whites. But, of course, the white kids all go to private schools like Dalton; their parents don’t want them hanging around people who are different. George Wallace, however wrong he was on everything else, got this right:

…the executives of the mills, the big shots of the mills, they get into air-conditioned Cadillacs and their chauffeurs drive on back up to Mountain Brook where the average home is worth about $300,000 a piece…And you know what they say? ‘Oh, we’ve got to be progressive, we’ve got to have some of this integration, says, it’s good.’ You know, to bus your children from here to there to kingdom come and back again and guess where their children go to school? To all-white private schools up in Mountain Brook.

This doesn’t just happen in dangerous, poor inner-city communities. Today, whites are fleeing some of the safest, richest communities in the country – places, in fact, with some of the best school districts in the entire nation – because their next door neighbor is Asian, not white. There is no legitimate explanation other than race for why somebody would want to move out of these communities.

It reminds me of something Malcolm X once said:

I prefer the candor of the Southern segregationist to the hypocrisy of the Northern integrationist.

Amen to that. At least in the South, they’re honest racists. In the North, they boast about how they voted for Obama and then go back to living in their rich white suburb; working at their well-paid, prestigious, white-male-only job; and sending their kids to 38K Phillips Exeter.

So there’s this rumour going around, and it’s been going on since those stupid lit-up Coca Cola lorries have been driving around being sickening, that Santa wore green until Coca Cola turned him red. Snopes went and disputed that, and so I’d like to reach out to Santa and help him out.

Santa, this hat proves that you can wear blue and still look good. You don’t have to bow to corporate pressure.
