A brown paper envelope for the digital age, Wikileaks.org is now home to more than 1m documents that governments and big business would rather the public did not see. The site – similar to Wikipedia in style, but otherwise independent of it – serves as an uncensorable and untraceable depository for the truth, able to publish documents that the courts may prevent newspapers and broadcasters from being able to touch. This month it has come of age in Britain, hosting the Minton report on the activities of oil trader Trafigura, even while the firm was trying to use its solicitors to prevent the press from revealing its contents. It was Wikileaks, too, that this week published a membership list of the British National party, revealing how few activists it has. Earlier this year, Lord Oakeshott, using parliamentary privilege, pointed those curious about Barclays’ tax activities to Wikileaks to read the evidence. Useful in Britain, it is invaluable in less free societies, such as China, where the authorities play a cat-and-mouse game with Wikileaks’ Swedish webhosts to try to block access. So far Wikileaks has stayed ahead, with technology leaving the law lagging behind. The site exists in a sort of legal limbo, not private, but not yet fully accepted by courts as part of the public domain. It takes power away from the powerful and hands it to citizens, controversial but essential example of what the web does best: offering unrestricted dispersal of information so that people can judge for themselves.

The Wiki phenomina has been a great benefit to all of humanity that can access it. It has been shown that the worst offenders for posting FALSE informations are the very authorities that claim its full of false information.

According to the BBC, WikiScanner found that some editorial contributions to Wikipedia had originated from computers operated by the Diebold company, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Vatican.

Wikileaks répond aux attentes de millions de gens : quelles ont été les paroles prononcées le 11 septembre 2001 ? Que s’est-il passé lors de la catastrophe ? Enorme polémique, buzz sensationnel…

“Mes pensées sont pour Nicholas, Ian et toi. Je suis terrifiée. J’avais besoin de te dire que je t’aime de tout mon cœur. Pour toujours, Diane.” Voici un des exemples qui soulève le net. D’autres messages interceptés de la Police de New-York rende compte de la pression vécue en ce jour :  ”Explosion possible au World Trade Center. Niveau 3 de mobilisation”. Pour l’instant, reste à savoir comment le site s’est-il procuré les milliers de messages.

Comme quoi, les gens, intéressés par ces messages, ont parfois un peu de sadisme en eux.

L'attentat contre le World Trade Center a fait 2823 victimes

C’est le nouveau “buzz” sur internet. Le site WikiLeaks a mis en ligne, jeudi 26 novembre, 573.000 messages de bipeurs envoyés sur tout le territoire américain lors des attentats du 11 septembre aux Etats-Unis. Le site publie la liste de tous les messages “interceptés à partir de 3h du matin dans la nuit du 10 au 11 septembre, jusqu’à 3h du matin dans la nuit du 11 au 12″. Il sont classés par tranche horaire de cinq minutes. L’ensemble est assez illisible: difficile de différencier les messages en provenance de la police, des agents fédéraux, des ordinateurs plantés, et les messages privés ou publicitaires. Mieux vaut avoir du temps devant soi avant de se lancer dans la lecture.

 Les messages postés avant 9h30, heure à laquelle la première tour du World Trade Center a été percutée par le premier avion, témoignent de la vie quotidienne de citoyens lambdas: à 6h, le propriétaire du bipeur 2526197 reçoit un “Happy Birthday!” de “Patrick”. A 7h10, le n° 5107568 est informé d’une ”Réunion à 7h15″. A 8h35, un amant écrit ”j’ai tellement hâte de te voir”.

Puis, à 9h30, c’est le chaos. “Appelle John pour lui dire que tu vas bien-Bruss”; “La TV a annoncé qu’un avion s’est écrasé sur le World Trade Center”; “est-ce que tu vas bien?”; “tu as vu les infos? Ils ont installé une TV dans la cafétéria. Je suis sous le choc -HR”. Les messages sont courts, mais émouvants.

 Le but du site? “Donner au monde l’opportunité de comprendre comment la tragédie s’est déroulée”. Il est atteint. Mais certains journaux reprochent déjà à WikiLeaks de ne pas donner la source de ces messages, même si le fait que certains Américains affirment avoir reconnu leurs messages laisse penser qu’ils n’ont pas pu être inventés.

 Ce n’est pas la première fois que WikiLeaks publie une info “choc”. “Leak” en anglais, c’est une ”fuite”. Le site se vante d’avoir ”produit plus de scoops depuis sa récente création (2006)  que le journal Washington Post en 30 ans”. Et la liste de messages du 11 septembre mise en ligne hier est certainement un des plus grands.

Vor einiger Zeit habe ich lauthals Lachen dürfen als auf dem Blog “Internt-Law” ein Dokument von aus Wikileaks auftauchte in dem quasi bestätigt wurde was viele schon länger vermutet hatten: Abmahnungen von Filesharern hat weniger was mit “Recht” zu tun als vielmehr mit “Geld”. Geld für Anwälte und Rechteinhaber in diesem Fall.

Zuerst war da der Fall von DigiProtect den ich inhaltlich als bodenlose Frechheit empfinde, über den ich mich dann aber doch köstlich amüsieren kann das diese Art der Piraterie * Wegelagerei ans Licht kommt. *Nein, piratig ist das ganz und gar nicht.

Dann tauchte besagtes Dokument auf das Herr Stadler auf seinem Internet-Law Blog sehr schön kommentiert, so das auch Nicht-Juristen verstehen wo der Hase im Pfeffer liegt bei dieser Geschichte.

Und nun das:

Bloggen in Deutschland ist gefährlich, vor allem dann, wenn man Missstände beleuchtet. Das habe ich jetzt am eigenen Leib erfahren müssen, denn vor zwei Tagen flatterte mir eine Abmahnung einer Frankfurter Anwaltskanzlei ins Haus. Ihr Auftraggeber: Rechtsanwalt Dr. Udo Kornmeier und die Kanzlei Kornmeier & Partner. Leaks website wikileaks has posted over half a million pager text messages online, all from US communications networks and all sent between 3am, September 11 and 3am September 12, 2001.

Wikileaks has not revealed the source of the intercepts, but claims that the context in which the data was sent to them a few weeks ago along with other information confirms their validity.

The messages were broadcast “live” online on the wikileaks site and also Twitter between 25th and 26th November, with each message posted at the same time it was originally sent. More details after the jump.

Messages released range from the almost mundane everyday chatter of civilians enquiring about lunch to haunting automatic alarm messages issued to engineers and maintenance companies from servers and systems in the World Trade Center buildings. Although they help to provide an often jarring look at people’s thoughts on that day, the real meat is in what appear to be the more “official” messages, which can be grouped together into coherenet streams from the sender/receiver ID number: :

All very interesting stuff. Whether this illustrates perfectly the “fog of war”, or adds grist to the mill for those who do not believe the offical story of events, who knows? As Wikileaks describes the event:

Text pagers are usualy carried by persons operating in an official capacity. Messages in the archive range from Pentagon, FBI, FEMA and New York Police Department exchanges, to computers reporting faults at investment banks inside the World Trade Center.

The archive is a completely objective record of the defining moment of our time. We hope that its entrance into the historical record will lead to a nuanced understanding of how this event led to death, opportunism and war.

In F!XMBR: Der Zustand unserer Demokratie am Beispiel Wikileaks

Wikileaks leistet großartige Aufklärungsarbeit und man kann das Engagement und die Arbeit der Macher und freiwilligen Helfer nicht hoch genug einschätzen. Demokratie bedeutet Volksherrschaft. Wenn aber diese Herrschaft über ein anderes Land und eine anonyme Webseite gewahrt werden muss, ist etwas ganz gewaltig faul im Staate Dänemark. Transparenz gibt es in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland nur noch in eine Richtung – der Bürger muss sich gegenüber den Volksvertretern voll und ganz offenlegen, der Weg in die andere Richtung ist aber bereits verbaut, und das in vielen Fällen gerichtlich bestätigt. Volksherrschaft, es scheint als würde dies der Vergangenheit angehören – immer öfter scheint die zarte Pflanze Demokratie durch eine Volksbeherrschaft zerdrückt zu werden. Und das macht verdammt nachdenklich, zeigt am Beispiel Wikileaks aber auch, wie sehr das Netz zur Demokratisierung beitragen kann.

El horror que vivió Estados Unidos el 11 de Septiembre de 2001 probablemente no será olvidado jamás. Se han hecho películas, se han relatado historias de las personas que estuvieron ahí y que sobrevivieron, y se ha homenajeado a las víctimas del atentado a las Torres Gemelas.

El tratamiento de la información de este evento siempre fue muy cuidadoso – se evitó mostrar los suicidios desde los pisos superiores de las Torres, no se mostraron cuerpos, y se tomaron medidas para proteger la dignidad de las personas por sobre el morbo.

Hoy, el controversial sitio Wikileaks revela más de 500.000 mensajes que fueron enviados ese día en Estados Unidos, a través de beepers o pagers, que normalmente son utilizados por oficiales, médicos y otros funcionarios. La web, que no ha revelado cómo consiguió esta información (que a todo esto, es privada), los irá publicando en el orden que fueron enviados durante el día, comenzando esta mañana a las 8 GMT.

Muchos de los mensajes no dicen nada (son calendarios automáticos o se refieren a otros temas), aunque se puede encontrar algunos más impactantes.

La compañía señaló que “el archivo es un registro completamente objetivo de un momento definitorio de nuestro tiempo. Esperamos que esta revelación lleve a un mejor entendimiento del evento y sus trágicas consecuencias”.

Algunos de los mensajes tras el incidente:

• “Un avión chocó con las Torres Gemelas. Muy mal..BR”
• “Por favor no salgas del edificio. Una de las Torres acaba de colapsar!”
• “Estoy muy asustada! Por favor ten cuidado!”

• “Eddie y Paul están bien. Paul está todavía atrapado en su edificio, que está junto al WTC.”
• “Se te necesita en el salón de GUERRA ahora”

Wolfgang Schneiderhan, Germany’s top soldier in Afghanistan, has resigned due to allegations of a cover-up of the events of September 4 in which a fuel truck that has been stolen by militants was blown up by a NATO airstrike under the command of the German military. Many civilians were also killed in the attack, although reports range from between 30 to 70 civilian deaths. Schneiderhan resigned because he was allegedly involved in a cover-up in which the German military at first insisted that no civilians had been killed, BBC News.

Today marks the first anniversary of the terrorist attacks that killed 166 people in Mumbai, India. Mumbai is marking the day with vigils and commemorations, Associated Press.  More on the 26/11 memorials, Times of India.

A new report says that the Catholic Church in Ireland covered up child abuse by priests.  The government-produced report looked at allegations against 46 priests from 1975-2004, Associated Press.

The website Wikileaks has posted half a million text messages that it says are from September 11th, 2001, CNN.

The U.N. has called for more effort to eliminate violence against women, Xinhua.

I medici di E.R., ad esempio, ne hanno sempre uno attaccato alla cintura. Prima della diffusione del cellulare, il pager ha svolto egregiamente il ruolo di dispositivo mobile; a partire dalla metà degli anni novanta, invece, è stato utilizzato quasi esclusivamente nel settore dei “messaggi critici” (comunicazioni immediate a medici, poliziotti, addetti alla manutenzione di software e hardware), o per la distribuzione di messaggi a gruppi di persone (come avvisi urgenti ai dipendenti, ecc). Nei casi di emergenze o disastri, mentre tutti i mezzi tramissivi subiscono il carico di chiamate, e quindi si impallano, il pager non soffre di questo effetto, e quindi viene spesso utilizzato dal personale dei servizi di emergenza…

Il 25 novembre 2009, a otto anni di distanza dall’attacco alle Torri Gemelle di New York, il sito wikileaks.org ha pubblicato la trascrizione di circa 500.000 messaggi inviati, tramite pager, tra le 3.00 AM dell11 settembre 2001, fino alle 02.59 AM del giorno dopo. Tutti i messaggi inviati ai pager transitano per opportuni server (simili, per certi versi, a quelli che offrono il servizio OMNIBOX, cioè di invio SMS tramite web), che registrano ogni singolo invio: non si tratta, quindi, di intercettazioni, ma semplicemente di file di LOG, cioè di file che contengono la mera registrazione delle attività svolte da queste macchine.

Approfittando del fatto di essere a casa, ammalato, ho iniziato a scorrere questa interminabile lista di messaggi. Dopo un po’ mi sono reso conto che si tratta di uno dei “documenti storici” più interessanti che mi sia mai capitato di avere tra le mani. Non ci sono rivelazioni eclatanti: la Storia, insomma, non viene riscritta (anche se alcuni dettagli sembrano confermare alcune teorie…). Ma la storia quotidiana di quella tragedia, gli aspetti umani, emergono con una forza sconvolgente.

Il film “Le invasioni barbariche” prende il titolo da un’intervista ad un sociologo trasmessa in una televisione posta nella camera del personaggio principale: il tizio intervistato afferma che l’11 settembre 2001 rappresenta l’inizio delle invasioni barbariche, cioè il primo giorno in cui quella guerra che gli Stati Uniti hanno portato in giro per il mondo arriva dentro ai confini americani. Il termine “barbaro” veniva usato dai Greci per indicare tutte le popolazioni non greche che, quando parlavano, parevano balbuzienti. Bar-bar-bar. Una visione decisamente egocentrica del mondo. Ma ciò che conta è che l’11 settembre, per la prima volta i cittadini americani hanno visto in faccia la morte per quello che è: distruzione, perdita di legami, smarrimento, tragedia privata.

E la sensazione che si ha, scorrendo questa inesauribile lista di messaggi, la maggior parte dei quali sono indicazioni di malfunzionamenti software, di ripartenze di servizi dei server, di oroscopi online o di reminder per le medicine, è che il senso della tragedia dell’11 settembre 2001 stia nella totale impreparazione psicologica ad un simile evento. Persone che vanno al lavoro per partecipare ad un meeting, che si mandano messaggi per decidere cosa mangiare a pranzo, si trovano scaraventati in mezzo ad una vera e propria guerra. E le loro famiglie, al di qua delle barricate, cercano in tutti i modi di venire in contatto con le persone che amano.

Ho provato, con la pazienza che l’influenza dona ad un adulto quando lo sottrae ai suoi doveri, di estrarre, dai circa 100.000 messaggi che ho scorso con gli occhi, una sorta di storia: qualcosa che alla fine somiglia, nella sua struttura drammatica, a tutti i film catastrofici che abbiamo visto nella nostra vita. Ho impiegato, complessivamente, 2 giorni per mettere insieme tutto. Credo che, nonostante la freddezza dei messaggi, questa storia si possa comunque leggere senza particolari difficoltà – basta solo un po’ di pazienza (ho fatto un po’ di fatica ad impostare il carattere della dimensione che avrei voluto: problemi di wordpress..).

Non ho voluto, invece, esprimere nessun giudizio su come sono andate veramente le cose (al riguardo, la mia unica teoria è che non si saprà mai la verità, ammesso che ce ne sia una sola), né sulle cause storiche che hanno portato agli eventi dell’11 settembre, e non mi preoccupo di evidenziare come, ad oggi, solo in Iraq sono morte più di centomila persone innocenti, senza che queste abbiamo potuto mandare o ricevere un ultimo messaggio.

Im Internet sind Hunderttausende Pager-Nachrichten zu den Terroranschlägen des 11. September 2001 veröffentlicht worden. Die Website Wikileak, die sich nach eigenen Angaben darum bemüht, die “Wahrheit” ans Licht zu bringen, stellte die Textnachrichten ins Netz.

Es sind teils verzweifelte Aufrufe an Verwandten oder Eheleuten, sich zu melden, teils sind es auch Mitschnitte der Polizei und Feuerwehr.

“Bitte, geh nicht aus dem Gebäude raus. Einer der Türme ist gerade zusammengestürzt. Bitte sei vorsichtig!”, zitierte der Nachrichtensender Fox News aus einer der Mitteilungen. Aus anderen gehe hervor, dass der Geheimdienst befürchtet habe, dass das Flugzeug mit dem aus Florida nach Washington fliegenden US-Präsidenten George W. Bush ebenfalls ein Ziel der Terroristen sein könnte. Daraufhin sei die Maschine umgeleitet worden.

Insgesamt wurden nach Angaben von Wikileak 573.000 Textnachrichten veröffentlicht, die über Handys oder Pager in einem Zeitraum von 24 Stunden vor und nach den Anschlägen verschickt wurden. Bei den Anschlägen in New York und auf das Verteidigungsministerium bei Washington waren damals etwa 3.000 Menschen getötet worden.

9/11 tragedy pager intercepts

From 3AM on Wednesday November 25, 2009, until 3AM the following day (US east coast time), WikiLeaks is releasing over half a million US national text pager intercepts. The intercepts cover a 24 hour period surrounding the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York and Washington.

The messages are being broadcast “live” to the global community — synchronized to the time of day they were sent. The first message is from 3AM September 11, 2001, five hours before the first attack, and the last, 24 hours later.

Text pagers are usualy carried by persons operating in an official capacity. Messages in the archive range from Pentagon, FBI, FEMA and New York Police Department exchanges, to computers reporting faults at investment banks inside the World Trade Center.

O portal online wikileaks.org, especializado na difusão de conteúdos sensíveis, começou hoje a publicar centenas de milhar de mensagens enviadas nos Estados Unidos no dia dos atentados do 11 de Setembro. As mensagens foram transmitidas através de bips, tendo a primeira ocorrido às 03h00 da manhã do dia 11 de Setembro, 2001, cinco horas antes do primeiro ataque, e a última mensagem é a de 24h00 depois do primeiro avião ter embatido uma das Torres Gémeas, em Nova Iorque.

The website Wikileaks published “half a million US national text pager intercepts” that were sent during the September 11th attacks on the twin towers.

As soon as the news of planes hitting the World Trade Center came out, thousands of individuals reached their phone to catch up with their friends, family members, or loved ones to ensure they were ok. Victims who were in and around the buildings also reported on what they were experiencing and sent out their, sometimes, last text-message. They “reveal the panic, horror and pain of what happened that morning in the words of those who experienced it.”

Here are a couple of these messages:

• “The only thoughts I have are of Nicholas, Ian and you. I am terrified. I needed to tell you that I truly love you. always, diane.”
• “I know you have a new relationship and do not care about me. But just in case anything happens know I love you hon. Missed Ya good bye.”
• “Please call my work as soon as you get in the office. Need to know you’re safe.”

More than half a million of these text-messages are now published on the Wikileaks website in the hope that these “historical record will lead to a nuanced understanding of how this event led to death, opportunism and war.”
