It’s a few quasi-paranoids in a basement, smoking White Owls and cloves, listening to one of those unsung classics of early millenium hip-hop with a conspiratorial-satori-al thread.  The smoke is weaving through the air like needle and thread through a mended shirt or a rug.

Grizzly Adam,  he whose beard made him look like a Russian Old-Believer, is redirecting the thread of the conversation away from the Deltron track and to one of those moments we part-time paranoids and conspiracy poets referred back to again and again in idle times. Each of us had dozens of those moments we could have shared.

“I’ll never get over the day when I saw the hand of the Illuminati’s in a porno video”, he said.

A-Albionic Al rolls his eyes and chuckles.  Al is the guy who used to indulge the pet theory of the  mail-order house A-Albionic Press–essentially the belief that the Catholic Church versus the Illuminati/British Empire was the true conspiracy drama determining the course of world history.  This was years before that became a yawn-inducing Dan Brown plot.  Of course, in true conspiracy-theorist fashion, A-Albionic Al rooted for neither side and today holds no belief in his old pet theories whatsoever.

“I was totally taken by surprise.  The hand of the Illuminati right in the middle of a porno,” Grizzly Adam muttered.

“You’re kidding me,” A-A Al says.  “How is it that never occurred to you?”

“I was horny and in high school.  You always make exceptions for your pet vices, I suppose,” shrugged Grizzly Adam.

“True enough,” said WhiteOwl, thus named because he had white hair and always brought that brand of blunts with him.  “So what’s the story? Did you see William Casey in a stag film?  Or was it Lyndon LaRouche?”

“Neither. “

“But it stuck with you–shit, sorry, I didn’t mean that,” I said.

“Man, it changed everything.  Everything,” Grizzly Adam spoke grimly.  “There was this local video store that had a cute clerk who really didn’t care if a sixteen year-old kid rented some dirty shit from the backroom.  That information passed along by word of mouth, you know.  She always worked on Fridays and Saturday afternoons.”

“A classic coming of age story–damnit!  That’s not what I meant,” I winced.

“I don’t think anyone was thinking that.  Relax, C–,” breathed Cloves, languidly, already buzzed from his clove cigarrettes, and something else besides.

“One weekend my parents went away for a wedding in Chicago.  My sister was spending the night at a friend’s house.  I had to take advantage of the circumstances, you know?  I drove over to the video store and headed straight for the back room.  There was so much shit in there and it was totally empty, no one else was in there.  I spent about thirty minutes looking around, not a clue how to choose.”

“I hope you paid in cash and that you didn’t use your parent’s video card,” A-A Al commented sternly.

“I paid in cash…but I used their video card.  That’s probably in a database somewhere,” Grizzly Adam shook his head.

“Probably?” asked White Owl, rhetorically. “Continue.”

“So…after a half-hour, I rented a video with some large-breasted blondes in it.  The premise was that they were the hot bartenders at some grimy bar.  And sex ensues.  The Hedgehog was also in it.  I still remember the name, because it was the plural of the name of one of the X-Men.”

“Jean Grays?” asked Cloves.

“No.”

“Wolverines?” asked White Owl, exhaling tobacco.

“No.”

“Storms?  Cyclops?” A-A Al seemed very eager.

“No.”

“Professor X?  Shit,” I groaned.

“Nah.  Someone more blue.  Anyway,” continued Grizzly Adam, “I drove home and got everything ready.  I locked all the doors.  I closed all the blinds in the house.  I unplugged the phone.  Excessive, right?”

“Just a little,” laughed White Owl.

Grizzly Adam puffed smoke from a blunt and swallowed.

“I got my pillow and blanket from my room and laid them out in the living room in front of the TV, went to the kitchen and scooped myself some ice cream.”

“Ice cream?” I asked.

“I don’t know.  It seemed appropriate.  I didn’t feel like making a sandwich.”

“Who eats sandwiches while watching porn?” A-A Al wondered incredulously.

“Please.  I wanted to look innocent if my sister got home early.  I had the video remote ready to turn off the VCR stat if anybody came to the door.  I had the regular remote ready to turn to Friday the 13th the Series in such a scenario.”

“Alright, well that’s plausible,” allowed WhiteOwl. “So get to it.  Where’s the Illuminati?”

“I press play, right?  I fast-forward through some porn adds for 900 numbers and get to the actual video.  It’s totally nonsensical and stupid, but that’s no problem for a high school kid’s dick, right.  It was the first real porn I’d seen–way beyond the softcore movies from the 70’s on Cinemax back then.”

“Surprised you didn’t recognize some of those as Illuminati programming–if Emmanuelle isn’t a veiled story of a sex-cult initiation, then I don’t know,” interrupted A-A Al.

“Monarch Programming, even,” sighed Clove, lighting his third clove cigarette off the nubbin of the second.

“It’s the third scene and Ron Jeremy goes out into this grimy, dirty porn-set alleyway with one of the bartender girls and they start going at it, up against a trash can or something.  They’re going at it.  I’m getting into it, despite the Hedgehog’s fat ass.  I’m getting close to–you know.  That’s when the camera pans up a little bit.”

Grizzly paused.

“Spray painted on the alley wall, just above  the two naked people’s heads, bigger than life, is the Eye in the Triangle.”

“Well, shit,” I said.

“I just stopped.    I’d already read Illuminatus and William Cooper at that point.  I got really scared.  Then, I got real angry.  I yelled ‘F*** you!’ at the TV screen and turned the thing off.  I just sat there, my covers on me, melted ice cream next to me.  Just staring and wondering.”

“It’s one of the easiest ways to control people–through their sex drives.  I’d be surprised if the Illuminati or the Jesuits weren’t embedded into the adult film industry.  Porn always had ties with criminal societies before it was legal, anyway,  not just here but all over the world,” A-A Al asserted easily.

“Sex can be meditative.  You go into an altered state of consciousness, a trance-state when you’re sexually aroused, began White Owl.  ” The nature of the trance can open you up to base suggestions or to higher ones.  That was something mystery religions in the ancient world knew.  The Khlysty in Russia that Rasputin might have been influenced by, they knew that.  The fact that an unrepressed, truly open and connected sexual moment between two people can help to unblock traumas locked into the psyche and the body was the great re-discovery Wilhelm Reich made that got him made a target by the Powers that Be.  You don’t even have to get into Orgone energy at all.  That secret has got to remain artificially scarce and controlled.  That’s one of the ways the Powers That Be stay in control.  And if they can’t keep the “secret” secret, then they’ll pervert and misrepresent it, twist it up and direct it toward making money.  Sacred Sex turns into Free Love turns into Free Sex turns into Sex for money, kicks and bullshit.”

White Owl sure could go off on a sermonizing jag.

Grizzly Adam was as serious as a bad art show hoping for an NEA grant as he said this:

“Yeah, well.  That moment, seeing the Eye in the Triangle in a porno…it changed everything.”

We all sat and smoked quietly for a minute, taking in the story, contemplating.

White Owl broke the silence.

“So…that was the last time you watched porn then, right?”

Grizzly Adam looked straight at White Owl.

“No.  An hour later I finished watching the video.  I was horny and in high school and that was a six dollar rental.”

¿ Quién es James Trevor Constable ?

Este Neozelandés de 84 años, fue uno de los primeros en dedicarse a la búsqueda de nuevas forma de vida en el cielo, después de leer y investigar, la teoría del Orgón ( Wilhelm Reich ) y La física del Éter de (Rudolph Steiner ).Trabajo para la Matson Navigation Company, en el SS Maui, donde realizó varios de sus experimentos de manipulación del clima utilizando un Cloudbuster y posteriormente, ya por su cuenta, realizo experimentos basados en formas biogeométricas y la geometría de pi.

¿ Logro encontrar o fotografiar algo ?

Aunque la maquinaria fotográfica, en aquellos tiempos ( 1957 ) dejaba mucho que desear, Trevor junto con Robert McCullough ( antiguo colaborador de Reich ) y James O. Wood, captaron y fotografiaron, extrañas criaturas, que parecían tener el aspecto de amebas gigantes, a las que más tarde el propio Trevor, denomino Critters o Sky fish.

¿ Pero, que son estas naves o formas de vida ?

Podríamos decir que son Ovnis Biológicos, ya que desconocemos lo que son, pero que parecen tener vida propia.

Aunque ciertamente siempre ha estado mas cercano a la teoría de Erich Aggem, que pongo mas adelante, Trevor también dijo:

Ray Palmer y Otto Binder: suponen que en la ionósfera habita una civilización de seres inteligentes, que eventualmente se acercan a nosotros, normalmente invisibles, pero que en circunstancias especiales son percibidos por la vista humana, especialmente por interacciones electromagnéticas o huracanes solares.

Erich Aggem colega de Trevor:esas criaturas invisibles ameboides, originadas en el espacio y que poseen luz propia, recuerdan a los moluscos del océano. Aparentan ser metálicas, maniobran inteligentemente y tienen su hábitat natural en los dominios inobservables que rodean o interpenetran nuestro planeta. Estaríamos, en suma, ante formas de vida desconocidas, terrestres o extraterrestres.

La condesa Zoe Wassilko-Serecki dice: son especies hasta ahora no observadas de vida animal, pero autóctonas, de la ionosfera terrestre. Poseen estructuras huecas, con un mínimo de materia densa cargada de electricidad. Quizás sean el eslabón perdido entre la vida orgánica y la inorgánica y por eso dan la impresión de ser máquinas.

¿ Y yo que pienso ?

En este sentido podríamos decir que nada es concreto, y que todo es posible, la verdad, es que despejaría muchas dudas sobre el fenómeno OVNI, en el aspecto visible de este, ya que en muchos de los vídeos de Ovnis, rods…, estos seres parecen tener vida propia, pero yo simplemente creo, que son seres vivos.

Para mi son: el reflejo de la vida que habita en la profundidad del basto mar, pero en este caso en el cielo, puede que lleven miles de años entre nosotros, o puede que no, pero estar, están, aveces se dejan ver, otras no, o simplemente es que nosotros no sabemos mirar.

“Escuta, Zé Ninguém!”, de Wilhelm Reich é uma chapada da realidade, uma crítica dura mas inteligente para o “Zé Ninguém” que cada um tem em si. Reich escreveu em 1944 o que ainda hoje em dia, pesa na consciência da humanidade.

Um texto num tom bastante arrogante, é certo, e ainda bem que o livro é relativamente pequeno porque apesar de interessante, realista e inteligente, como já disse, se fosse um pouco maior tornaria-se “muito do mesmo”. Mas o livro acaba por ter o tamanho exacto e não me aborreceu em nenhuma altura, o que pode ser diferente com outras pessoas na verdade. O contra é que odeio um bocadinho mais a humanidade.

Reich, foi um psicanalista seguidor de Freud . Bastante polémico e “perseguido” devido a obras como “A função do orgasmo” , acabou por morrer na prisão em 1957.

The quote above reminds me of  Socrates, who also stood in trial. I discovered Wilhelm Reich from watching Kymatica, where they showed a quote from Reich:

“Sexual suppression supports the power of the church, which has sunk very deep roots into the exploited masses by means of sexual anxiety and guilt. [It] engenders timidity towards authority and binds children to their parents. This results in adult subservience to state authority and to capitalistic exploitation. This is when I paused Kymatica and began my brief research on Reich. I found out that he had a very traumatic childhood, which led him to his passion for the power of sex and orgasm. Reich became a student of Sigmund Freud and became a well-respected psychologist in his time. He discovered Orgone, which he claims, the energy of life. In the end, Reich has become problematic for the government and was brought to jail, and his books burned. Many has considered him as a quack doctor. But there are still some that continues his studies. I’m skeptical of most of Reich’s work, but I still respect the man and regard him as maybe one of the greatest minds that ever lived.

Ein beliebiges Beispiel für Reichs Herangehensweise ist seine Beschreibung des Autonomen Nervensystems, das sich aus dem Parasympathikus (Vagus) und dem Sympathikus zusammensetzt. In diesen Zusammenhang paßt eine schwedische Studie, die gezeigt hat, daß dem Gedächtnis von Demenzkranken durch eine elektrische Reizung am Vagusnerv auf die Sprünge geholfen werden kann. Bei Alzheimerkranken kann diese Stimulation den Erkrankungsverlauf bremsen, allgemein aktivierend und antidepressiv wirken. Doch der mechanistischen Medizin bleibt der Mechanismus, der hinter dieser Methode steckt, ein Rätsel.

Chemische Verbindungen wie Lezithin und Cholin sind „funktionell identisch“ mit dem Parasympathikus. In this world that we live in today it is so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the life we have created for ourselves. We become so focused and entrenched in our work, relationships, and personal life that we sometimes lose sight of life’s big picture. This is not a relatively hard thing to accomplish as the picture is so big and detailed that it is very easy to fixate our attention in one area, forgetting that it’s just a tiny fraction to the whole masterpiece and in fact, the entire picture is just one among endless amounts of other pictures hanging on the wall. As we step back, divert our attention elsewhere or even analyze the very fabric for which the picture was created on we might find that “what ‘matters’ most” is nothing more than the thought we put behind it into making it a reality.

All that exists in this physical world we live in is made up of matter. Protons, Neutrons and Electrons are of course made up by quarks (to over simplify the process) and this is what makes up every thing that exists. Modern physicists are now supporting that these basic building blocks for matter are in fact NOT solid. In fact 99% of an atom is empty space. Countless experiments have been conducted to show that solidity is only a trick of the mind at the macroscopic level.  This was first brought to the public eye by a scientist named Ernest Rutherford in an experiment he did passing particles through gold. For those of you whom this is a new concept to, I can imagine that you are skeptical to believe that something you can touch is not solid. This contradicts everything we’ve learned throughout our lives. However, modern science is beginning to expound into the “paranormal” and “unexplainable” to possibly repeat history and as time showed the world is not flat and the sun does not revolve around the earth we shall begin to become conscious that what you see and touch is not the end all be all for what exists and who/what we really are.

We are all energy. Our bodies emit light and heat. Our brains produce thoughts that emit waves that manipulate the “physical” world in which we live.  This is not such a strange concept when you think about the fact that our bodies are coexisting with all kinds of different frequencies such as television, radio waves, numerous other frequencies, some probably still undiscovered. Just because you can’t see them at the moment doesn’t mean they do not exist or are not present.  They exist in the same space the mind and body does. One must only find the proper medium to access the information and decode it into information our brains can interpret.   There is more to the human being than the physical bodies in which we live because in fact the majority of our body is once again just a bunch of nothing. We exist on many different levels, dimensions and frequencies. For numerous reasons we have lost touch with our ability to realize our full potential as beings and have forgotten that we are eternal and have always been.  Our minds and bodies vibrate at different frequencies corresponding with the thoughts and emotions we are feeling at the time. This might sound like a bunch of spiritual pish-posh and may make one uncomfortable but if you allow yourself to lower the predetermined constructs of your mind it will all make sense, even logically.

Our thoughts are our most powerful and equally crippling tool we possess. Our thoughts define our actions and our actions shape our experiences in this reality.  Our “reality” is a reflection of what we think about ourselves and what we hold onto dearest. It is this great ability to think that we can manipulate to make our lives more pleasant or less favorable.  This is a beautiful thing because once you realize that this is true and is a universal law that we are not taught in school or church (coincidence?), you begin to look inside yourself and out at your current situation and see that it is only you that has put yourself where you are,  and it is only you (and a good thing too since you won’t have to worry about anyone else letting you down) who can use that information to bring about desirable changes. Once we realize that the only one to blame for our problems and our unhappiness is ourselves (not anyone or thing) we can begin to take responsibility for our actions, learn from our mistakes, change our thought process and continue in a new found direction.

This law works simply by like attracting like. Positive attracting positive. Negative attracting Negative. This is the one rule to making this work. The law does not care whether you are emitting positive or negative energy, it will bring you what you desire. Now one might say, no one would want to attract negativity into their life, however, there are people who are consciously making the world a more negative/worse place, but for the moment I am speaking of the people who are probably not aware they are attracting negativity with even the tiniest negative thoughts. One rule that I find works for me, is think simple. If you can apply something on a small-scale and it works, then it will translate to the big picture. It is because of this that we must be careful with what we say and what we are thinking. Little things, eventually add up to big things, good and bad. Think about what you think about yourself and where the majority of your thoughts lie. Are you constantly saying things like “Nothing good ever happens to me”, “I hate…”, “I can’t…”, “Oh woe is me, I’m just a little nobody, working at a job I hate, to pay rent in a too small of house, with a nagging spouse, and too many bills, and I just can’t ever seem to get anything right”, “Nobody likes me” blah blah garbage!! If you think like that you will only be focusing on the negative things in your life, and the positive ones, which still exist will be phased out by your focus on negative ones thus attracting even more negativity into your life. However if you always choose to look at the positivity in things (even though negative ones still may exist) they will be phased out and you will attract even greater happiness into your life. I could not even begin to tell you the thousands of people and things big and small, that I have attracted into my life since learning about this universal law.

People are skeptical to think that you can get whatever you want in life or change any situation you are in simply by thinking about it because a lot of times they don’t realize that although 90% of it is just knowing what you want and thinking about it you still have to put that positivity in alignment with your actions. When those two things are in perfect harmony: 1. knowing what you want, 2. and taking the proper actions to get it: you can literally do anything or recieve anything! Thoughts become things!  The beautiful thing is that no one can stop you but yourself. You just have to stay positive and keep believing that good things will come because they will. The law is always at work. It seems so simple and logical when you break it down on an individual level, however most people in the world are completely oblivious. It is because of this great law and our true “freedom”, which unfortunately I am not talking about the freedom we think we have as Americans, but our true freedom is the power of choice. At the end of the day, in any situation, rational or irrational, it is oneself who always has the ability to make a choice. That being said, those choices always have consequences of less favorable outcomes or favorable/tolerable outcomes but each person always possess the power to choose.  At the end of the day no one can make the decision but themselves. This is something I have had a hard time accepting but now better understand that happiness and fearfulness are choices. Choices that we each make each day, defined by our thoughts, carried into actions, actions that shape the outcome of our life and influence the state of the world. The world is the way it is today because of the thoughts that others before us and now us have had and turned those thoughts into actions or done nothing while our world was manipulated into a state of fear.  It is us who have chosen to live in this world of fear, to accept that it is inevitable that the world can only get worse.  It is us who have so quickly fallen to our knees in looking to the sky for answers to problems, all the while there are people among us whom we’ve never met that are manipulating this false movie-like reality we call life, while we tune out, obey, be silent and do nothing.

The human brain is a very complex and magnificent organ that functions on so many levels most of which we have barely even begun to tap into. However most of us tend to not ever put it to good use and instead allow pop culture, the media and movies to program how we think. There is a small part of our brain called the reptilian brain which functions on basic instincts and survival that most of us never allow ourselves to think outside of. This part of the brain is very primal in that, it allows us to let things like fear, selfishness survival, dominance, and sexual thoughts govern our life. The mainstream media, movie producers and global elite know this and have set our worldly lives up to be stimulated and manipulated like this. It is so much in the forefront of our society that you almost can’t see it because it is in just about everything and we have let ourselves become blinded by the overwhelming exposure to it, accepting it for “just the way it is, honey”, or “always has been always will be.” garbage.

This powerful weapon of manipulation can be seen every time you watch the news, hear a commercial, drive past a billboard, rent a movie, go to war, vote for political figures, listen to the radio, or surf the internet. It’s just about everywhere and it is not by coincidence. Fear is an immobilizing thing. Fear can cripple a person keeping them from ever really doing anything. Fear is a good way to keep people out-of-the-way and influence them to do what you want. However, Fear isn’t real. It is true, the only thing to fear is fear itself. Fear is nothing more than a product of unfamiliarity. A mental road block in your mind. We are afraid of things we do not understand and unfortunately in today’s society we have such a go-go mentality that we don’t take the time to understand or figure out why we’re afraid or what there is to even be afraid of.  We are such a society full of repeaters that world society as a whole never stops to critically analyze happenings in the news around the world and how they are connected. You have to look extremely hard to find a true journalist, or true news source. And of course people have been programmed not to accept an alternative because it is not a “credible” source, most certainly lacking the fancy cameras, graphics and people we’ve become accustomed with.

Here is a good example of how the media works:

If we want to talk about the real fear in this world and the people responsible for this false sense of reality, after we point the finger in the mirror we need only look to the little picture box that sits at the center of our favorite rooms. This must have item was designed for nothing more than programming of mass numbers of people into fearful, insecure, subordinate, consumers and is responsible for the numbing and culturing of misinformed sheep people (sheople). TV has convinced everyone that what you see on it is reality. That you are not this or that if you don’t have this thing or that thing. It has given us all programmed memories. I can’t remember a lot of days from my past but I remember just about every episode of Fresh Prince, Family Matters, Full House and Boy Meets World. I remember how quickly a life changing story breaks on the news, watching the hours of coverage and hearing the story change and everyone accepting the new version and carrying on with their daily lives. The majority of us accept what we hear and see on TV and take comfort in it.  A little something like this:

WE MUST CLAIM RESPONSIBILITY

As a whole our society is afraid of numerous things: terrorism, violence in our neighborhoods, flu, death, our safety, other religions, communism, people with brown faces, socialism, drugs and endless other things. TV has systematically instilled prejudices and for many people have given them their opinion on certain ethnic groups, religions, and countries before we even take the time to see experience the world with our own eyes, ears and feet. This is something traveling the world has brought to my attention. As Michael Jackson once said “never ever pass judgment on anyone or believe anything you hear on TV until you’ve had the chance to sit down, look the person in the eye and hear what they have to say for themselves.” And based on personal experiences he couldn’t have been any more right. There are a lot of misconceptions about the world that we average Americans hold. Instead of believing this capitalist/nationalist propaganda, that we are the greatest country ever and its our way or the highway we need to take the time to think about where these easy sayings and programmed responses we recite come from.

In the early 1900’s a psychologist  by the name of Edward Bernays changed the course of modern human history by taking his knowledge of psychology and teaming up with big corporations to what would inevitably become the market and advertising scam as we know it today.

The people at the top are not stupid. They know exactly what they are doing and it is only by playing dumb and taking advantage of people’s trust and ignorance that we let them accomplish the evils they do. But the time is coming when they will be exposed and will be held accountable.

How is it possible that they could get away with these acts? The simple truth is because each one of us allows it to happen. The global elite have successfully created a system in which we are all born into to enslave the population. They accomplish this because they have managed to create a prison that you can neither see, touch or taste: A prison for our minds. They have turned society as a whole into a flock of sheep.  Only they have done one better. Sheep at least still need a sheep dog to keep them in line and move them where necessary. We are one worse than sheep in that we don’t need a visible sheep dog (or tyrant) to constantly keep us in line. The elite have managed to ingeniously program the very sheep themselves be their own sheep dogs. We police ourselves.  It is now a crime in this society to be different or speak out against the herd. People are so concerned with what the Jones’ will think if they do this, or say that, or don’t have this, that we refuse to speak up, about what is really on our minds to do/be something unique. Instead we are more concerned with the weather and who’s gonna win the super bowl this year that generations let time pass and the world worsen, never doing a thing about it. Dave Matthews hit the nail precisely on the head.

We must wake up from this long slumber our people have been in and realize the truth: that there is something bigger going on in this world and it is sinister and evil; and that the only reason it continues to happen and worsen is because we let it. We must get off of our knees, stop thinking with a small-minded brain centered on fear, and expand our conciousness to channel the infinite amount of love that is available to free ourselves from fear, hate, perversion and bondage that 90% of the world is trapped in right now.  We must not fear the quest for truth, even when the truth turns out to be stranger than fiction.

We must collectively raise this world from vibrating lowly in a state of fear to soaring high in a state of love and happiness.  The answer starts right at home. What can I do?  Once we begin to change our thought patterns this physical world around us will realign itself with a positive outlook. We want to make the world a better place for those that will be arriving here after we’ve left our physical bodies. Remember that we are not defined by our name, occupation or financial status. We are infinite consciousness experiencing life on planet Earth in the third dimension.

INFINITE LOVE IS THE ONLY TRUTH EVERYTHING ELSE IS ONLY ILLUSION.

LET THIS SONG RING TRUE!

Yes, it’s been a long time since I posted anything. I’ve just been busy and also generally questioning whether the world needs another Blog.  After coming to the conclusion that it definitely doesn’t I decided to have another go but to focus a little bit more on art rather than animal photos.  I’m willing to admit that this is probably a bit of a mistake given the popularity of ‘Weird Owl’ and ‘Satisfied looking Monkey’.  Below is a text that I wrote recently for a catalogue on the artist/writer/visionary Brion Gysin.  It’s really more of a personal reflection than anything and I was so nervous about writing it that an hour and a half session on Gysin’s Dreamachine was necessary to calm the nerves.  The images are of a video installation I made which employed a visual and audio flicker similar to that produced by the Dreamachine. The Frequency of Modern Life.

My first encounter with Brion Gysin, like that of many others, came through the work and reverence of William Burroughs.  Finding a copy of ‘The Job’ in the library at Central St Martins I was first exposed to an alternative history of averted potential, a time-line populated by the likes of Wilhelm Reich, Buckminster Fuller, L Ron Hubbard and at the tip of that arrow, Brion Gysin. Being the mid 90’s and thirty years since the book’s publication it was painfully obvious that the suppression and manipulation of such technologies and ideas had been as effective as Burroughs suggested.

As a young artist trying to negotiate the idea of function in an art object I was fascinated by how these ideas were crystallised into objects, as Orgone Accumulators, Dymaxion Cars, E-Meters and Dreamachines.  Whilst each object presented a vision of a future only the Dreamachine seemed still entirely viable as environmental pollution, multinational industry and religious dogma compromised the existence of the other devices.  As I discovered Genesis P-Orridge’s texts on Gysin in Re/Search and Rapid Eye it became clear that this was a very special person indeed.  A fountain; the cut-up, permutation poetry, calligraphic paintings, novels, collage and sound experiments, too much for one person to achieve and plenty left for the rest of us to fill in.

GYSIN/DREAMACHINE/BURROUGHS

Despite such an abundance of expertise it is the Dreamachine that is Brion Gysin’s masterpiece.  In collaboration with mathematician, Ian Sommerville, he created an object that flies in the face of commodity and utilises the greatest Readymade of them all, the Human Brain.  Somehow the duo managed to interpret W. Grey Walter’s discoveries about the brains electrical activity into a transcendental device that could be fabricated using simplest of means.  Self-Authored eyelid movies free for all, free forever.

Perhaps it was once possible to imagine a future/present when every home would have a Dreamachine, around which the family would gather, leave their bodies and dream.  Instead we have another kind of light we choose to gather around, a light show that we passively absorb and have little or no opportunity to influence.  The act of creation is inverted to absorption.

Perhaps at the heart of this is the failure of the Dreamachine as a commodity, like Duchamp’s Rotoreliefs before them.  Several attempts were unsuccessfully made to market the Dreamachine, there are many reasons for this failure but essentially the Dreamachine is a set of principals rather than an object as such:  One is as good as another and the aesthetics of a device that one views with eyes shut are always going to be difficult to market.  Even Gysin’s classic Dreamachine design is a little misleading because as long as the ratio between slots and rotation are correct the thing can look anyway it pleases.

However there is one more flaw in the device and that is that it requires concentration and repeated meditative use.  There is not an immediate hit, what is attained is well earned.  This is not the way of a world with a strap-line that proclaims ‘More, more, more, now, now, now!’  Speed in productivity, speed in consumption.  One Dreamachine will last you a lifetime.

The Dreamachine creates a very specific flicker corresponding to the Brains electrical activity in Alpha State, that is a bandwidth of between 8 to 13 Hz.  Most flickering light sources we encounter in our daily lives work at a much higher rate for instance Television uses a rate of 50 or 60hz, Computer monitors work at a rate of around 100hz and modern LCD screens at 200hz.  Technology embraces speed and in doing so reinforces the illusion of a single flawless flow of imagery, a faultless impenetrable wall. An illusion so real it supplants reality?  Sometimes I wonder whether like the Orgone Accumulator, The Dymaxion Car and the E-Meter, the Dreamachine is lost because even the archetypes and dreams it promises are polluted by this black spring of relentless images.

As Genesis P-Orridge writes in his tribute to Gysin, ‘His name was Master’, ‘Today (in) a society with a vested interest in the suppression of imagination…Dreams are merely disturbed nights or entertainment.’  Lest we forget the politics of internal life.

2. Wilhelm Reich, Funkcja orgazmu

Książka reformatora psychoterapii, od którego wyszły w zasadzie wszystkie terapie psychosomatyczne (np. bioenergetyka Lowena). Przedstawia on w niej swoją koncepcję, jak również historyczny, chronologiczny rys – jak dochodził do tej koncepcji. Ważna lekcja na temat powiązań ciało-oddech-umysł, no i przede wszystkim książka, która uczy otwartości na inne sposoby widzenia.

3. Donald VanHowten, Ajurweda i świadomość ciała

Książkę tę już recenzowałem na blogu. Ważna książka, aby zrozumieć, że praca w jodze i terapii jogą, jak również cała praca nad sobą nie może być agresywna. Koniecznie do przeczytania dla masażystów, fizjoterapeutów i terapeutów jogą.
