Abbiamo cominciato settimana scorsa una lunga e dolorosa discesa negli inferi delle produzione cinematografiche a soggetto supereroistico. Insomma, i film brutti tratti dai fumetti. Se volete scoprire quanto si può cadere in basso, continuate a leggere e puppatevi un’escalation di terrore dalla posizione numero 12 alla 10. Oddio che ansia.

12 The Punisher, Jonathan Hensleigh, 2004

Qualcuno si ricorda il vecchio film sul Punitore con Dolph Lundgren senza manco il teschio sulla maglia? Dai, quello che in italiano non si sa per quale motivo è uscito con il titolo Il Vendicatore… C’è anche una sequenza dove si vede un telegiornale, un anchorman che parla di tale Vendicatore e dietro di lui c’è una scritta gigante: Punisher… No, per dire l’accurataggine con cui era fatto… Eh? Ve lo ricordate? Eh? Era brutto… Ma questo è peggio. Si prende un altro biondo (Thomas Jane) lo si tinge di nero, gli si mette un teschio sul vestito (almeno quello…) e poi si fa di tutto per rovinare la saga Bentornato, Frank, quella di Ennis e Dillon. E tra un pezzo dei Nickelback e uno del chitarrista degli Evanescence, ce la si fa alla grande. Ad uscirne peggio di tutti è proprio il Punitore, qui snaturato in ogni sua caratteristica, soprattutto – diciamo così – “psicologica”. John Travolta, nella parte del cattivo, è semplicemente deprimente. Per la cronaca l’ultimo film dedicato al personaggio, The Punisher War Zone, massacrato ovunque dalla critica e da noi uscito direttamente in dvd, non è per niente male. Cioè, a confronto sembra un film di Orson Welles e a questo ci straspezza la schiena. Non a caso si è dovuti ripartire da zero… Per farvi capire quante cazzate si possono dire in un film, vediamo come ce li cava a spiegare tutto quello che muove Frank Castle nella sua vendetta cieca e senza fine in soli 32 fottutissimi secondi.

11 X-Men le origini – Wolverine, Gavin Hood, 2009

Diciamolo subito, hanno fatto un brutto casino con Deadpool. Un bruttissimo casino. Non è nemmeno un film discreto in cui han fatto un bruttissimo casino con Deadpool, oppure un film che raggiunge a mala pena la sufficenza in cui han fatto un bruttissimo casino con Deadpool, no, è un grosso film di merda in cui han fatto un bruttissimo casino con Deadpool. E dire che dietro c’è la penna del romanziere/sceneggiatore de la 25esima ora di Spike Lee. Al famoso monologo di Norton davanti lo specchio andrebbe aggiunto “Fanculo te! Sceneggiatore, produttore, regista di Hollywood che quando si ritrova ad dover fare un film sui Super Eroi, invece di attingere da quelle migliaia di ottime storie, si inventa cazzate dal nulla, rovinandomi la giornata ed il mio megasecchio di popcorn”

Perchè diamine Deadpool assomiglia a Voldemort sotto steroidi con un giochino della settimana enigmistica sul petto? Perchè?

(Girano voci sul fatto che in un probabile Wolverine 2 o spin-off su Deadpool si scoprirà che il pelato di cui sopra non sia in realtà Wide Wilson)

10 The Spirit, Frank Miller, 2008

La totale e definitiva perdita di credibilità per un uomo che per un certo periodo è stato nei nostri cuori… come dire: la conferma della fine di Frank Miller passa sicuramente attraverso questo film. Dopo essere stato incoronato dal grande Will Eisner come suo successore e custode dei segreti della non arte, Miller è riuscito a scontentare chiunque facendo trasparire per altro anche una certa cattiva fede. In barba a qualsiasi rispetto per la fonte originale, al personaggio The Spirit viene applicato in laboratorio il trattamento Sin City (vi ricordate? Si può fare lo stesso anche a Charlie Brown… ) . Il risultato si commenta da solo. Se già il passaggio da carta stampata a grande schermo era stata non priva di difetti per Marv e compagni, figuriamoci in questo caso. Dopo dieci minuti passa la voglia di vivere anche al più entusiasta degli spettatori e l’idea di una possibile uscita in sala di Sin City 2 e Sin City 3 mette paura. Deligato… Fortunatamente non è piaciuto praticamente a nessuno per cui forse Frank Miller per un po’ la smetterà di essere definito un Autore visionario. Ma ne dubito.

Parte 1: dalla 15 alla 13

Visual storytellers invest the majority of their time communicating clearly. This quote, as weird as it is, points this out.

E’ uscito un libro importante, in un edizione uberpettinata… Di quelle che anche se te lo becca la mamma non ti rompe le palle coi giornalini, anzi si bulla con la portinaia perchè avete dei volumi di un certo pregio in casa. Un libro che ha pure vinto un Eisner Award, che non ci sta mai male come cosa.

Un libro su Jack Kirby, non con i suoi fumetti badate bene, ma SU Jack Kirby: l’uomo, l’autore, il padre di famiglia e -consentitemi- il genio. Ovviamente corredato da molte foto e chiaramente tantissimi disegni dalla sua adolescenza fino agli anni ‘90, quando -ahinoi- Jack decise di lasciare questo pianeta. Il tutto narratoci dal suo assitente e amico di sempre, il rubicondo Mark Evanier.

Si apre con una bella prefazione di Neil Gaiman, sentita e per niente retorica… Un fan che parla del suo mito, una dichiarazione di devozione e appartenenza viscerale… E così sono tutti gli interventi su di lui nel libro: nessuno ha parole “carine” tutti ne sono profondamente devoti. Umanamente, professionalmente e immaginificamente Kirby non ha lasciato nessuno semplicemente “sorpreso”, ha creato per ognuno un nuovo mondo, diventando non un autore “gradito” bensì “fondamentale”… Kirby per decenni è stato il dio che i ragazzi dovevano pregare perchè i fumetti fossero bellissimi, dinamici e avvincenti.

Da queste pagine emerge un uomo caparbio, un figlio coriaceo dell’America della riscossa, con i piedi per terra e la testa in un vorticare di crepitanti pallini di energia nera e galassie sconfinate. Un ragazzo del Lower East Side che ci ha fatto conoscere come è vivere su altri mondi e dominare galassie.

Non mi voglio dilungare troppo sul perchè dovreste acquistare questo libro: se amate i fumetti e se li amate davvero lo saprete già istintivamente che è la cosa giusta da fare… Anche perchè, disegni a parte, la storia di Jack Kirby è la storia del “Sogno Americano”, del self made man nella sua accezione migliore, del fumetto americano e di chi lo ha reso grande; Perchè la sua vita si intreccia con tutte le figure più importanti del fumetto dagli anni ‘30 agli anni ‘90 e le scelte e le invenzioni che farà da solo, o in coppia con qualche altro autore, le leggiamo ancora oggi sugli scaffali delle fumetterie.

Quindi cacciate questi 30 euro, portatevi a casa questo tomo meraviglioso e inchinatevi al più grande creatore di mondi mai apparso nel fumetto ma soprattutto inchinatevi all’umiltà di un grande uomo che ha sempre subordinato il suo lato autoriale per la resa commerciale del suo lavoro, riuscendo nonostante ciò a far passare nelle sue pagine tante idee in più di tantissimo fumetto sedicente “colto”.

A tal proposito: nel volume è raccolta per la prima volta in Italia una bellissima storia breve, La legge della strada, sulla sua infanzia nel turbolento Lower East Side, in cui Kirby tira fuori (sotto la richiesta di un suo fan che si propose di pubblicare qualsiasi storia avesse voluto disegnare il Re) tutto il suo lato d’autore, alla veneranda età di 50 anni per la prima volta… Ed è un ritratto struggente e crudo della vita per strada che conobbe molto bene: poche pagine non inchiostrate, solo matite in cui c’è però tutta la maestria dell’artigiano e tutto il cuore dell’artista.

Sometimes I, when I am not being made crazy by his third-grader shenanigans, think I should be sitting at my youngest son’s feet learning the secrets of life and the wisdom of the world. You have already been made privy to his theological opining. Now listen to an example of the kind of things he says while reading the comics in the morning paper:

Youngest Son: Who’s Ken Burns?

Yiddishe Mamme: He’s a documentary filmmaker. He’s made film series about things like baseball and the Civil War. He just made one about the National Parks.

YS: What do you call a person who makes movies? A book writer is an author and a painter is an artist. So what do you call a person who makes movies?

YM: A filmmaker.

YS: Oh. Authors, artists and filmmakers are important people.

YM: What do they do that is important?

YS: They entertain us.

YM: How do they do that?

YS: You know – artists make pictures we can gaze [his word] at, authors make books we can read, and filmmakers make movies we can watch.

YM: So why is that so important?

YS: Because otherwise we would just be running up and down the sidewalks with nothing to do.

Now, that’s an image to ponder. Just like the ones cartoonists and animators put in their work for us to think about. I am a big fan of these artists, because I think that cartoons, comics, animated films and graphic novels (aside from their being amusing) provide access to learning for those of us who are less verbally inclined, while concurrently helping the rest of us strengthen our visual literacy skills.

New and surprising subject matter for R. Crumb

We are all bombarded with images these days, but how many of us ever take the time to really look at something? Sure, we get the basic information we need to from the big picture, but we often miss out on gaining a nuanced understanding. In our fast paced world, we often forget that in many cases it is, as the saying goes, all in the details.

There are those who would think that an illustrated version amounts to a dumbing down of a text, that a cartoon or animated work is a complicated idea made simple for either young children or the lesser literates among us. On the contrary, many highly talented and intellectual authors, visual artists and filmmakers are opting for graphic novels and animated films as vehicles for expressing their own complex and layered thoughts, or to interpret classic or ancient narratives.

True, not every ouevre in this genre rises to the level of which I speak. Superhero, Archie or Pokémon comic books would not cut it. The works which I am lauding here are ones like JT Waldman’s Megillat Esther, a very sophisticated and knowledgeable depiction of the Book of Esther which visually intertwines multiple midrashic and Rabbinic commentaries with the biblical text, presenting them through illustrations that are at the same time delicately detailed and boldly raw. The Rabbi’s Cat, by Joann Sfar, although illustrated in a very different style (and in color rather than black and white), made its narrative – a clever and creative story of Jewish life in Algeria – similarly come alive.

Some graphic novels are meant to be less metaphorical and intend to simply illustrate an historic event or an experience from the author’s life. R. Crumb, in a recent interview on NPR, said that his work on his newly released The Book of Genesis was a “straight illustration job.”  I cannot comment on this new book by Crumb, since I have not yet had a chance to read it. However, I would say that in the case of Art Spiegelman’s Maus (the first graphic novel I read) or Will Eisner’s The Plot, both of which appear on the surface to be “straight illustration jobs,” are to a certain degree interpretive by nature of their genre.

Sometimes even those of us with supposedly strong verbal intelligence just don’t “get it,” until someone draws us a picture. That was what happened for me with The Plot by Will Eisner.  I can’t tell you how many times I had read about the Protocols of the Elders of Zion during the course of my studies and as a teacher. It wan’t until I came across Eisner’s organized, methodical and detailed rendition of the long, convoluted and sordid history of this dangerous hoax that I finally fully grasped it.

Graphic novels, comics and cartoons vary widely in style and purpose. But at the core of this genre is the concept of the visual metaphor. That is what makes it so powerful and so useful not only for enjoyment by adults, but also for the education of children. In a curriculum I authored quite a number of years ago on the use of maxims and proverbs to teach morality, I included a lot of cartoons and comic strips. My high school students’ familiarity and ease with the comics’ metaphoric nature helped ease them into an in-depth study of the metaphoric imagery of classic Jewish and American maxims.

The first Palestinian animated film is the biography of a young woman who died because of the stigma of breast cancer in her culture and the political-military realities of the Middle East.

The box office popularity and critical acclaim of recent animated autobiographical films like Waltz With Bashir and Persepolis show that the animated graphic novel is catching on with an adult audience. I am eager to see a new film, the first animated one to come out of the Palestinian Territories. It is called Fatenah and tells the real and tragic tale of a young Palestinian woman’s struggle to have her breast cancer properly diagnosed and treated.

Even Disney’s The Prince of Egypt, which on the surface appears to be merely an animated feature length children’s movie, can be analyzed for its midrashic content and usage of visual metaphors to deepen the sparse biblical pshat narrative. Just ask my former students (who were also subjected to my using Waldman’s Megillat Esther as our main text for studying that book).

Sarah Lefton, a young Jewish educational entrepreneur, clearly apprehends the power of the cartoon, the visual metaphor and the art of animation. She, in her G-dcast project, has combined all three in an ingenious way to teach children – and all interested parties of any age – the weekly Torah portion. She has enlisted talented artists and writers, primarily the voices of the new Jewish generation, to show kids that comics are not just for laughs…but that that, in no way, should stop you from having a lot of fun with them.

Quem acompanha notícias relacionadas a educação deve se lembrar da polêmica ocorrida alguns meses atrás envolvendo o livro “Um contrato com Deus”, do autor estadunidense Will Eisner.

O livro foi distribuído pelo Misnistério  da Educação (MEC) por meio do Programa Nacional Biblioteca da Escola (PNBE), e foi encaminhado a milhares de colégios em vários estados brasileiros, gerando discussões acaloradas tanto contra quanto em defesa da distribuição do título.

Will Eisner, considerado um dos autores mais importantes dos quadrinhos e da cultura pop do século XX, possui uma linguagem peculiar, marcada por cenas intensas de sexo e violência ambientados no submundo da metrópole. O livro em questão segue essa mesma linha, o que provocou questionamentos quanto à sua validade para bibliotecas escolares, já que o título acabou ficando acessível tanto para adolescentes quanto para crianças da 5ª série. Em alguns estados, como no Paraná, chegou-se a cogitar a não inclusão do livro nas prateleiras, ou barrar o empréstimo conforme a idade do usuário, caracterizando um caso típico de censura. Em defesa da distribuição e livre empréstimo do livro, psicólogos, educadores e bibliotecários destacaram a possibilidade de uso desse tipo de material em sala de aula, como atividade de discussão e de questionamento crítico.

Casos como esse são mais comuns do que se imagina, e não acontecem somente no Brasil. Uma matéria recente apontou a existência de pelo menos 513 títulos censurados nos Estados Unidos entre 2007 e 2009, número que pode ser entre 70% e 80% maior, considerando que a maior parte dos casos não é relatada à American Library Association (ALA), responsável pelo estudo. O link abaixo ilustra o quão complicada é a questão da censura de livros em bibliotecas, indicando os livros e as razões pelas quais cada título foi censurado em diversas cidades americanas. Interessante notar o quão grande é a participação dos pais no caso de censura em bibliotecas escolares.

Esses fatores nos levam a questionar: até onde vai a fronteira entre a seleção de livros e a censura? Deve-se simplesmente barrar um livro pelo seu conteúdo ou estimular os jovens leitores a refletir sobre o que é lido?

Ok, mas quem raio deu autorização para utilizarem os mesmos efeitos de Sin City aqui? Quem? Will Eisner deve estar às voltas no túmulo. Mas, só por acaso, o filme até tem algumas coisas que dá para rir. Os clones dos capangas de Octopus e seus nomes (Huevo, Dildo, Adios, Amigos e outros que tais), o arsenal de Octopus, que parece ter mais armas de que Rambo, Robocop e Terminator juntos. Mas o verdadeiro motivo para perder quase 100 minutos a ver isto é sem sombra de dúvida Eva Mendes. Eu vendo a minha alma ao demo para ficar 10 minutos com ela. Que ela é boa é, mas aqui atinge o estatuto de Deusa. De resto, a história gira na procura do Tosão de Ouro e do sangue de Herácles. De Frank Miller (Se o Sin City 2 sai assim, vais conhecer a redacção do SHV, armada com um cajado, um alicate e um maçarico), com Jaime King, Gabriel Macht, Dan Gerrity, Arthur the Cat, Kimberly Cox, Brian Lucero, David Brian Martin, Larry Reinhardt-Meyer, Frank Miller, Eva Mendes, Eric Balfour, Samuel L. Jackson, Louis Lombardi, Scarlett Johansson e Sarah Paulson.

Essa semana, comprei o livro Nova York- A vida na Grande Cidade (Quadrinhos na CIA.) do escritor e desenhista Will Eisner. Adoro desenho e atualmente estou apaixonado por aqueles que sabem retratar as grandes cidades através de uma caneta tinteiro. Sempre tive vontade de comprar o livro de Will, porém pensava que não o leria por ser um livro muito grande e percebi que estava enganado. Para quem curte quadrinhos, é uma obra prima que vai muito bem como livro de cabeceira.

Para quem não conhece, Will Eisner é um dos principais nomes no desenvolvimento do gênero das histórias em quadrinhos, influenciando gerações de profissionais pelo mundo. Este livro lançado no início do ano, retrata histórias do cotidiano de pessoas que vivem na metrópole americana e passam pelas mais diversas situações comuns. Recomendo.

Today’s review will be of a movie, “The Spirit” to be precise. If you for some reason haven’t seen it yet then check out the trailer below and beware of spoilers  in the review below.

Now I was very excited about this movie don’t get me wrong but at the same time is was worried about Frank Miller’s ability to perform effectively as a director. But no worries there. I did in deed like the movie but It wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be. I was hoping for a serious superhero action movie, I wanted another “Sin City“. But this movie though very similar was also in a category all its own.

It’s filled with lots of goofy dark humor in between the fight scenes, but it fit in quite well with the movie. Casting was great, Samuel L. Jackson, and Gabriel Macht were the perfect choices. Acting was kind of silly at times but it worked for the film. Directing was surprisingly good, special effects worked superbly. The plot felt a little rushed but it’s not as bad as it could have been.

In closing I give it a 7 out of 10. Till next time.

Ty fields a lot of calls from editors looking for someone who can imitate a particular style or artist–Ty’s eye for detail and his perfectionism often make him the perfect person for such an assignment.  But, he does have his own style, both cartoony and realistic.  For the latter, here’s a portrait Ty did for a tribute to Will Eisner, published in 2005.

No ano de 1987, os fãs de HQs tiveram uma grata surpresa ao se depararem com uma nova revista, no mínimo inusitada. Era a obra revolucionária do jovem artista Frank Miller, The Dark Knight Returns, ou Batman – O Cavaleiros das Trevas (aqui no Brasil). Essa história do homem-morcego publicada originalmente em 4 edições e posteriormente vendida em edição encadernada continha vários elementos que a fizeram alcançar um patamar de obra-prima. 1º: Colocava um personagem mundialmente conhecido em um futuro decadente, onde o próprio era decadente. E não era uma viagem ao tempo, a história realmente se passa no futuro. 2º: Era uma espécie de O Que Aconteceria Se…(título que a concorrente Marvel usava em algumas histórias, contando uma espécie de realidade paralela em que seus personagens viviam situações adversas). Nesse caso, seria algo como: O que aconteceria se o Batman vivesse num futuro caótico?. 3º: jogava como coadjuvante na história ninguém menos que o Superman, este era subordinado ao governo dos EUA, uma espécie de fantoche. 4º: A narrativa de Miller era algo original, complexa, com elementos políticos, repleto de críticas sociais. Os personagens às vezes não agem com a razão, mas são impulsionados pelo ódio e pelo medo. É uma HQ em que não há espaço pra sentimentalismos baratos.

Sem ter nada a ver (ou quase) com o (ótimo) filme homônimo dirigido por Christopher Nolan em 2008, senão pelo fato de ter seus dois vilões principais: Coringa e Duas-Caras, a HQ de Miller começa com o já velho Bruce Wayne quase morrendo em uma corrida automobilística, já mostrando que seu modo de vida ainda continua desafiando os perigos. Mas este já está aposentado, longe do combate ao crime. Harvey Dent (o Duas-Caras) quer voltar ao convívio social depois de passar anos internado, segundo os médicos, ele está pronto pra se redimir perante a sociedade, mas acaba desaparecendo até se firmar num dos núcleos de toda a trama. Ao mesmo tempo, delinqüentes que se autodenominam Gangue Mutante aterrorizam a cidade de Gotham City. Bruce Wayne tem freqüentes lembranças da morte de seus pais, fazendo com que ele chegue a raspar o bigode sem ter se lembrado de nada e com isso, vindo a ter lampejos da época de sua luta à criminalidade no passado..

Começa aí a saga do retorno do homem-morcego à Gotham perdida em meio ao caos. As atitudes do Batman são violentas, agressivas, sem perdão. Seu retorno é alardeado pelos telejornais sensacionalistas. Cada personagem (do bem) passa a história narrando os fatos em primeira pessoa. Isso torna a narrativa mais pessoal e próxima do leitor.

Voltando à história, o Duas-Caras prova que não mudou em nada e chega com ameaças típicas dos piores terroristas, num momento em que o Insano Coringa também começa a agir, levado pelo desejo de ser o grande antagonista do retorno de seu arqui-inimigo. Sem revelar mais detalhes da história, só ressalto a união do homem-morcego com uma improvável garota no lugar do antigo parceiro Robin. A história toma rumos inusitados quando todas as ameaças chegam ao mesmo tempo, tranformando Gotham no pior dos pesadelos, a um ponto em que já não parece ter solução pra mais nada.

O super-homem é mostrado como uma ameaça comunista. Lembrando que, em 1987 o mundo ainda estava vivendo sobre o medo da Guerra-Fria, o Muro de Berlim só seria derrubado 2 anos depois. O clímax, um confronto dele com o Batman é fantástico e dá uma dimensão espantosa à obra.

A arte de Frank Miller (Elektra Assassina, Ronin, Sin City, Os 300 de Esparta) é das mais fantásticas já vistas, seus traços são sombrios, cheios de sombras, estilo expressionista. Nada menos excepcional é seu roteiro. Uma história sólida, sem rodeios, contada de forma direta e nada simplória. Miller é um ótimo escritor, são dele as ótimas sagas: Demolidor – A Queda de Murdock e Batman – Ano Um  Curiosamente, a única HQ que ganha dessa obra é também do mesmo ano: a obra-prima Watchmen, escrita pelo genial Allan Moore. A arte-final é de Klaus Janson (artista que desenhou histórias do Demolidor, entre outras), e a cor ficou por conta de Lynn Varley, esposa de Miller, e que também colorizou entre outras a saga 300)

Infelizmente, nem tudo virou flores na carreira de Frank Miller de uns tempos pra cá, se bem que tudo tenha sido culpa do próprio. Miller ousou fazer uma continuação do Cavaleiro das Trevas; um projeto auto-destrutivo. Resultado: fracasso total de crítica. Nos cinemas, levado pela empolgação do diretor Robert Rodriguez ao coloca-lo como co-diretor do filme Sin City (baseado em sua obra de enorme sucesso), Miller decide que pode dirigir sozinho uma produção hollywoodiana e adapta The Spirit (obra-prima dos quadrinhos do genial Will Eisnet) e, paga caro ao ver que tudo não passou de entusiasmo infantil, entregando um filme massacrado pela crítico e público). O genial Frank Miller provou não se dar bem em continuações de suas próprias obras em quadrinhos e muito menos como diretor de cinema.

Mas uma coisa é certa: ele entrou pra história como o artista que criou a melhor obra dos quadrinhos de um personagem mundialmente conhecido. E isso não é pra qualquer um.

Have you noticed how many popular novels are being made into films this year? Angels and Demons, based on Dan Brown’s popular Robert Langdon series stated the year off with a blockbuster film from a bestseller book.  Oddly enough the book is set prior to the events is The Da Vinci Code, but the film is made as a sequel. 

If thrillers weren’t your thing, ever popular Jodi Picoult had her first novel to film treatment with My Sister’s Keeper just a few months back.  Shortly after, Sophie Kinsella’s Confessions of a Shopaholic also came to the screen starring Australia’s Isla Fisher. This film was a reasonable box office success, but panned by the critics. Audrey Niffennegger’s The Time Traveler’s Wife has just been released starring another Aussie, Eric Bana, and whilst we are on the Aussie theme, Maurice Sendak’s timeless children’s classic, Where the Wild Things Are which was filmed in and around Melbourne will be released next month. Most of this feature was actually filmed in 2005 but has been in what they call ‘development hell’ until this year.

If Graphic Novels are your thing, the very popular Will Eisner series The Spirit was released as a film this year, but has unfortunately been tagged one of worst films of 2009.

Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol has had a CGI re-imagining, released just in time for Christmas and to rave reviews. But possibly the most highly anticipated book-to-film event this year is the Twilight sequel, New Moon which was released today across Australia!

There’s plenty I’ve missed, tell us what others you have enjoyed this year or are looking forward to being released in 2010?

The Spirit nas mãos de Frank Miller me decepcionou. Quer dizer, eu já sabia que o filme era ruim, mas o nome dele na direção me deu esperanças. Falsas esperanças. Esse filme não é ruim. É galhofa-trash! O horror! O horror!

Nunca li uma HQ sequer de The Spirit, de Will Eisner. Pesquisei sobre na web e descobri que não tem muito a ver com o que o filme mostrou. Posso estar errado, mas o que vi que está nos quadrinhos é um detetive que morreu e teve sua vida de volta por meio da ciência e suas histórias circulam entre mistérios, humor, ação, etc, sem poderes sobrenaturais. Mas nunca a galhofa.

O filme tem umas duas horas de duração, que parecem treze de tão boring, forçado, galhofa e chatão que é!

Sobre a atuação? Mais ou menos. Samuel L. Jackson/Octopus foi o único que entrou no clima ‘galhofa’, por isso está bom. Gabriel Macht/Spirit é de sentir pena. Você vê que ele se esforça, mas o diretor o mandou usar aquela lente azul desgraçada e deu no que deu. A bunda de Eva Mendes/Sand Saref é a melhor coisa. O quê? Isso não conta como atuação? Como assim?!

Eu sei que usei o termo “galhofa” em todos os parágrafos desse post. Para que vocês vejam o quanto estou revoltado. Revoltado com o desrespeito ao trabalho de Will Eisner. Pensei que o Frank Miller, fã confesso de quadrinhos, fosse fazer algo como o bom trabalho feito em Sin City, ótimo! Mas o filme abusa tanto do preto, tanto do clima noir, tanto de diálogos sem noção, que parece até uma paródia estilo Todo Mundo Em Pânico (o de ano 2000) de Sin City. Infelizmente Frank Miller não conseguiu imprimir a marca The Spirit no filme.

daí tava fazendo o que digo pros outros sempre fazerem: reler o que foi escrito, limar impiedosamente o desnecessário e/ou acessório pra não prejudicar o fluxo do texto.

fiquei surpreso.

percebi que tanto a versão 2.0 de BORBOLETA quanto A.P.I. tem pouquíssimas palavras aparentes. o grosso do texto está no roteiro em si e mesmo essa parte ficou econômica em relação aos monstros que escrevia antigamente.

a diferença primordial entre uma história e outra é que BORBOLETA é basicamente o plot decupado sem quase nenhuma informação acrescentada e o tempo é regido pelos diálogos esparsos das personagens.

em A.P.I. estou, por enquanto, usando um narrador onisciente e recordatórios. até que a ação comece, pelo menos, e as personagens interajam.

daí cabe a elas o que acontecer a seguir. experiência x comportamento = drama. no bom sentido, claro. encarando hqs como teatro. São Will ia gostar disso, acho eu.
