We reported earlier that there has been talk of Windows Phone 7 being announced early next year.

There is also reports that the HTC HD2 will be amongst those devices that will be able to run the new software.

This report comes via http://www. msmobile.com who do not reveal the source for this.

We can not substantiate these claims nor do we recommend that you take this as set in stone. However it could be quite interesting if it is the case – all HTC HD2 owners would be in a great position seeing as Mobile 7 is set to be one of the biggest updates to the OS to date.

We will of course bring more information as we have it.

It is only a few weeks since Windows Phone (Windows Mobile 6.5) was launched and there is plenty of talk about a new version of Windows Phone – Windows Mobile 7.

There is a great deal of rumours going about and it is difficult to make head or tail of what is official, and as far as we are aware nothing has been confirmed.

But the general message:

Windows Phone 7 will be officially announced at the Microsoft MIX conference, in March next year. (according to Knowyourmobile)

However since this conference is not wireless focused, rumours suggest that it will be announced at Mobile World Congress in February 2010.

In my opinion Mobile World Congress would be a much more suitable audience.

Susetyo Dwi Prihadi – Okezone

So, yes Windows Mobile 7 is being developed, but it is a long way off! The earliest we will see anything is late 2010.

So how many developers do you think Microsoft have working on Windows Mobile 7? It is going to be radical new OS with social networking core to it, so they need a fair few to develop such. A large global company, it would be fair to sggest a couple of hundred developers working 5 days a week, maybe 500 at a push. Not even close, want to know how many developers they actually have working on Windows Phone 7?….1000 (One Thousand)!

Yes 1000 developers all plugging away to make Windows Mobile 7 the next best thing, to tackle the growing competition.

With that many developers woring away at the new OS, you can’t help but expect big things!

According to an article over at PC World, Windows Mobile 7 is all about the Social Networks and will be core to the mobile device.

The news comes through a job post on Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices job site.

" ‘Social networks’ and ‘mobile phones’ are two rapidly evolving socio-cultural phenomena that deeply impact the way in which people interact with each other. How would you like to be at the confluence of these phenomena, not as an observer but as someone who is defining the course?

"The Windows Mobile 7 Communications group is building experiences on the phone that present your content — friends, pictures, messages, events — to you in immersive and engaging ways. Our vision is to bring social networks to life by integrating them into the core experience of the phone. For example, imagine seeing all the newsfeeds from all the networks you care about in a single hub on the phone. Or imagine the phone instantly telling you what your friend is doing and where he is when you get a call from him."

The job posting goes on to explain that Microsoft wants to build a "mobile social platform" that’ll encourage developers to create socially focused applications for the system. It states that the company has "just begun drawing the first lines" of the platform and hints at the lofty goals surrounding the Windows Mobile 7 release.

According to the job post "The vision of WM7 and especially the communications team is ambitious…We are not building yet another cool phone, but one that is truly personal and relevant. Yes, the competition is stiff, but it’s exceeded only by our desire to win. Come help us build this epic phone."

Looks like Windows Phone/Mobile 7 could be something special!

Microsoft is planning to launch Windows Mobile 7 sometime next year, and that shouldn’t be a surprise. Well, it looks like WinMo 7 will have some sort of social integration, which is a good thing. “A job announcement found on Microsoft’s official website unveils that WM7 will feature a “Mobile Social Platform” that should “bring social networks to life by integrating them into the core experience” of Windows Mobile 7 phones.” If you aren’t familiar with social integration, take Motorola and their MOTOBLUR on the Cliq. This is great news, so let’s hope that they integrate it well.

Two weeks ago, we heard that we could see Windows Mobile 7 as early as this November at PDC. Well, Microsoft has been cruising the interwebs because they just denied any rumours of WinMo 7 showing up at PDC this year. Maybe we’ll see something about the second part of WinMo 6.5 though. By the way, I have no clue why this was the photo on WMPowerUser.

As I’m sure you know, Microsoft and its partners are squarely focused on introducing the Windows phone brand through the launch of Windows Mobile 6.5 in October [October 6], which includes working closely with ISVs and developers to add even greater value to the Windows Mobile platform and new business opportunities for its mobile channel ecosystem. To properly set your expectations, wanted to let you know that Microsoft is not planning any sessions for PDC that look past the Windows Mobile OS in market at that time.

Microsoft has just confirmed that Windows Mobile 7 will have minimum requirements on their handsets. We heard about the Microsoft “Pink” requirements a while back and they look like pretty decent minimum requirements right now. A year from now, I’m pretty sure most of the features on that list will be standard though. The real details on these requirements haven’t been mentioned yet.

It was only a matter of days ago that Microsoft begun shouting about their new Windows Phones, that will begin shipping from the 6th October.

The new Windows 6.5 operating system is et to bring improvements to the end users, you and I.

Despite all of this, there is still discussions of what is coming next, Windows Phone 7or Windows Mobile 7.

There are lots of conflicting pieces of information on the web and Microsoft are generally keeping tight lipped.

What is becoming more apparent is that Windows Phone 7 will be aimed more at the consumer market, although Windows’ traditional business strengths and assets will be kept, but perhaps made a little less obvious.

No release dates on 7 have been announced and it is bound to be a little time off just having launched 6.5! Rumours suggest that October 2010 will be when we’ll start to see devices appearing that run on Windows Phone 7.

IT Pro managed to talk to Microsoft representatives and came out with the following information:

James McCarthy, Microsoft’s business marketing manager, said: “Steve Ballmer has mentioned publicly that Windows Mobile 7 is slated for release in 2010 and we’re always working with our key OEM and operator partners on future products, although we have nothing formal to announce for now.”

However, McCarthy did give us a hint about what Microsoft is working towards.

“In the future, we are looking to deepen our development work with a handful of key OEMs at the hardware design phase, with much more carefully defined hardware specifications to match software requirements, which in turn will deliver even more powerful mobile experiences for our customers.

“This has led to this chassis’ concept that is familiar to the work Microsoft does with hardware partners in the PC industry to create high quality products.”

It therefore seems that Microsoft and their mobile team will work more closely with OEMs such as HTC and Acer to create the hardware that will incorporate Windows Phone 7.

The future of Smartphones is certainly getting hotter, but it is a long time between now and October 2010 and a great deal can change.

According to the latest unconfirmed rumour, Sony Ericsson has “denied” to further support Microsoft’s Windows Mobile OS. I don’t know why, but maybe they’ll change their minds when WinMo 6.5 / WinMo 7 comes out. Since they’re reportedly going to ditch Windows Mobile, they’ll be dishing out both Android and Symbian-based handsets in the future, since they don’t think that devices will “sell well” running on Microsoft’s mobile OS.

The last Windows Mobile phone Sony Ericsson will launch looks like it will be the XPERIA X2 (above); we already know about the S60-based Sony Ericsson Satio and the unconfirmed XPERIA X3 is going to be running Android. Maybe these handsets are a sign of a good future for Sony Ericsson.

Windows Mobile 7 is over a year away, according to what we heard two days ago, but something interesting popped up recently. Above is some of the minimum requirements of a WinMo 7 handset, which could mean that dumbphones could be a thing of the past – okay I lied. But, the WiFi 802.11 n chip minimum requirement is definitely welcomed. But, by next year, I’m sure it’ll be normal for every phone to have this chip anyway.
