The first rule of  fight club is you do not talk about fight club… the legendary dialogue from the movie Fight Club. Hollywood has made some  really cool and awesome movies on Mixed Martial Arts… Fight Club, Never Back Down, Red Belt, each of these leave one awe struck!

All the awesome workout sessions, your head automatically has the Rocky Balboa, “Eye of the Tiger,” playing…  Shootfighters have all of these amazing training sessions, that would transport you to any one of these flicks… strengthening exercises, conditioning, free- running… all of that you can ask for!

But there is a catch! When it comes to Shootfighters, there is more than what meets the eye… there is always something new and exciting to be offered by Shootfighters… While speaking of MMA, we have, taken this term very seriously and to the point!

Ashwin has been practising martial arts for over 2 decades now… and these arts range from Karate, Kickboxing, Brazilian Jujutsu, a bit of Sambo, Taekwondo, Aikido, Jujutsu, Kalaripayattu, Tamil Kalaripayattu, Wing-Tsun, Kenjutsu, Garadi, Vajramushti, Judo, Tai Chi, Baghuazhang, Various types of Kung Fu- Eagle Claw, Tiger, Snake and a bit of Manthis… and each of these forms have been blended in Shootfighters…

This unique blend makes the classes, complete fun and totally exciting. Martial Arts has a huge history, and there are wide array of arts… each place has adapted and taken an art form to suit their own needs and requirements. Thus, the existence of this melting pot of so to say, martial arts under one roof… makes it a complete martial treat!

“One needs to enjoy what they teach… and I would personally find only striking pretty boring… after sometime plain old kickboxing without grappling, take-downs… gets very boring. It is not even practical in a real fight, where you are grabbed, pushed, clawed, slapped. Also, in most cases, you are up against more than one opponent… where one person does the hitting, while the others do the holding.” Says Ashwin.

Hmmm, only strikes and kicks seem like so much of a constriction here… one needs to know different techniques and ways to get out of any attack situation. Shootfighters Inc, takes in all the useful martial arts and makes it a part of their course curriculum.

Sounds fun right! Different martial arts, being blended and taught with some really cool moves… but behind all of this is a serious effort made, with tremendous hard work, and passion for Martial arts.

Ashwin has been in constant touch with different people in the world of Martial art, making friends, getting to know their art forms. Many masters do not teach you some art forms that easily… they need to know whether one can handle it. Ashwin had to go through years of patient waiting before he was introduced into numerous arts.

“It is a complete course you need to go through, most teachers do not teach you what part you want and leave the rest… you need to wait it out patiently and get the useful information out. Every martial art has some very useful and amazing techniques, and some may not work.”

With real-time experience of numerous fights, Ashwin knows that one needs to have a multitude of techniques that work.

“My instructors like Siddarth are very good fighters, because they have only learnt techniques that work and nothing else.” Adds Ashwin.

The most tough to capture have been the Indian Martial Arts… these seem to be very well hidden and shrouded, many have been lost and left only to a chosen few., as they need to make sure whether one can wield the power given by the arts.

The organization is doing a lot to preserve and document lesser known Indian martial arts such as Garadi, Vajramushti, Varmakalai, Silammbam so that they don’t die out entirely.

“I had this curiosity to understand and know, why an agriculture based civilization would need Martial Arts. Hunters and gatherers, it is understandable, but Indus Valley Civilization, the first civilization to develop a deep cultural setup of Martial arts was something I wanted to learn about.” Says Ashwin.

The great sages of India like Agastyar, Thirumular, Boghanathar… all of them have made huge contributions to Martial Arts, also incidentally the word ‘Chi‘ is derived from Chivaya (a tamil way of saying Shiva). The insights provided by them in Martial arts is very profound and deep. It set a base for the growth of martial arts all over the world.

“Martial arts, is about being strong, self-defence and all of that… but then there is more to Martial arts… it has a deeper ethereal meaning. When many students had signed up for self-defence or fitness, they continued classes even after achieving fitness and self-defence. Out of sheer curiosity I enquired, and found out that they felt a sense of achievement and strong confidence while be a part of our classes.” Says Ashwin.

Thus, martial arts works directly on the mind of the person, which in turn reflects in the body. “Martial arts is like Kundalini Yoga, where the aim is to achieve enlightenment, thus sages like Agastyar practised the arts. In order to see a mental change, physical vigour need to be done, once there is a mental change it is seen in the spirit… all of them are interconnected. “ Adds Ashwin.

The best part about these arts are, they are very nicely blended and gelled in to make a perfect school for martial arts- Independent Shootfighters Inc.

I don’t know why I find this article so funny. But it’s really sad. We seem to forget that many of the Masters are just regular people with regular (and not-so-regular) struggles.

Wizyta Mistrza Leung Tinga już za nami. Legenda Wing Tsun i ostatni uczeń Mistrza Yip Mana spędził tydzień w Warszawie nauczając Wing Tsun Kung Fu.

Skorzystaliśmy z okazji aby ponownie uczyć się z “pierwszej ręki” od naszego Mistrza z Hongkongu. Tym razem omawiane były szczegółowo formy, techniki chisao i wolnej walki ale przede wszystkim koncepcja walki i zaawansowana teoria Wing Tsun.
Przy tej okazji powstał obszerwny wywiad z Sijo, który już niedługo opublikujemy.
W tym roku Sijo Leung Ting odwiedził tylko Polskę i Węgry, a także swoje szkoły Stanach Zjednoczonych.

Seminarium zakończyło się egzaminami mistrzowskimi na pierwszy stopień mistrzowski, które pozytywnie zaliczyli:

Oraz mławscy asystenci i pionierzy mławskiego Leung Ting Wing Tsun – Sihingowie Mirosław Wilk i Mariusz Licnerski.

Egzamin Sihingów Mariusza i Mirka jest dotychczasowym ukoronowaniem 3-letniej pracy mławskiej sekcji Wing Tsun, bardzo dużym, trwałym krokiem naprzód, oraz świadectwem, że “nie ma rzeczy niemożliwych”. Zapał, wytrwałość i duch walki to cechy, które prowadzą do spełnienia własnych marzeń i osiągnięcia wyznaczonych celów. Serdeczne gratulacje Todai, udowodniliście, że nasza praca nie idzie na marne.

1976 yılında İstanbul’da doğdu. Dövüş sanatlarına, ufak yaşlarda taekwondo ile başladı. 2 yıl Taekwondo eğitimi aldıktan sonra, kısa bir süre Full Contact ve Shaolin Kung Fu çalıştı. Wing Tsun’a olan hayranlığı, Sifu Mustafa Şahinle tanışmasına sebep oldu. 1991 yılında Sifu Mustafa Şahin’in yanında Bayrampaşa Wing Tsun Akademisi’nde Wing Tsun & Escrima çalışmalarına başladı. 1993 yılında Bayrampaşa Wing Tsun Akademisi’ni çalıştırma görevine Sifu Mustafa Şahin tarafından getirildi. Sifu Salih Avcı Türkiye şef antrenörü olduktan sonra, tüm seminerlerine ve özel çalışmalarına katılarak bilgi ve becerilerini arttırdı. 1998 yılında Türkiye Wing Tsun tarihinde ilk 1. tekniker derecesini alan iki kişiden biri oldu. 2002 yılında 2.tekniker derecesini alarak . Sifu Avcı ve Sifu Şahin’in Türkiye’de çeşitli illerde verdikleri seminerlerde asistanlığını yaptı ve halen yapmaktadır. 1995 yılında “Türkiye’de En İyi Asistan” ödülüne layık görüldü ve ödülü Sifu Mehmet Şahin tarafından kendisine verildi. 1996 yılında Üsküdar’da grup kurarak çalışmalarını Anadolu yakasında sürdürmeye başladı. 1998 yılında Aytunç Bentürk ile tanışarak çalışmalarını, Aytunç Bentürk Dance Academy’de sürdürmeye karar verdi. Çalışmaları halen devam etmektedir. 18 yıllık Wing Tsun, 16 yıllık eğitmen tecrübesi ile Sifu Avcı ve Sifu Şahin’in denetiminde çalışmalarını sürdürmektedir.

Buone nuove per quanto riguarda la stagione autunnale appena iniziata: i corsi nelle palestre Atlantic e Mithos sono ripartiti con successo e con gradite nuove presenze.

Si registrano anche dei progressi, infatti questo mese l’istruttore Giancarlo ha superato l’esame per il 9° SG

e l’allievo Giorgio della palestra Mithos ha superato l’esame di 3° SG.

Sul fronte palestra Atlantic, gli allievi Pasquale, Emiliano e Alessandro hanno superato l’esame per il 4° SG, e quindi iniziano ora ufficialmente lo studio e la pratica del Chi-Sao.

Ricordiamo a tutti che questa settimana, a partire da oggi 7 ottobre fino a domenica 11 ottobre, a Livorno al centro Marilia si svolge lo stage internazionale tenuto da GM Kernspecht; partecipate numerosi!

It’s gonna be a new character, a default generic one maybe. And I may end up using it for another project, not related to CG. Not sure if I’ll release this one like my other rigs… tbh, I don’t think so.

not enough to justify a new post, but I figured it’d go well here. I wanted something a little more toony, so I made a new head. Might make a body to go with it, or do another head untill I have a toon head I really like.

So I’m back from the summer camp in Germany. Which was really cool (though I still couldn’t stop thinking about bulgaria either)

It was a camp organised by wing tsjun international, by Sifu Thommy Luke Boehlig.

I’m rather a novice with wing tsjun, but what I saw and practised there was very cool. It’s definitly there to stay…

W dniach 10-15.08. 2009, jak co roku, odbył się obóz letni Wschodnio-Europejskiego Stowarzyszenia Wing Tsun (E.E.W.T.O.).

Tydzień treningów w klasztorze Wing Tsun na Węgrzech już za nami. 6 godzin treningu dziennie, codzienne 3km biegi, pokazy oraz gala w nowo otwartej kwaterze głównej Eastern European Wing Tsun Organization pozostaną nam na długo w pamięci.
W tym roku 150 osobowa grupa uczniów z Węgier, Polski, Litwy,Rumunii poznawała techniki drewnianego manekina Mok Yan Chong Fa oraz zastosowania technik w chi sao i wolnej walce.

Pierwszego dnia uczestnicy obozu uczcili pamięć zmarłego w zeszłym roku Mistrza – Dai Sihinga Szabó Férenca. Zdjęcia z tego wydarzenia.
W programie znalazł się także czas na zwiedzanie zamku w Budapeszcie .
Ostatniego dnia odbyła się ceremonia oficjalnego otwarcia nowej kwatery głównej. Wśród gości honorowych znalazł się dr Simicskó István
( przewodniczący komisji do spraw bezpieczeństwa Parlamentu Węgierskiego, 2 stopień mistrzowski wing tsun) oraz gwiazda węgierskiego hip -hopu Funka Deli
( prywatny uczeń Sikunga Norberta Madaya).

Podczas koncertu Funka Deli zaprezentował swój najnowszy utwór pt. lehetlen nem létezik (nie ma rzeczy niemożliwych), poświęcony legendzie, historii i technikom Wing Tsun, do którego wkrótce zostanie nakręcony  teledysk w którym brało udział 150 adeptów Wing Tsun! Na razie zamieszczamy materiał z planu zdjęciowego.

Sifu Marcin Błaszak otrzymał od Sikunga dyplom za szczególne osiągnięcie, którym był czynny udział w całym programie obozu pomimo nabytej kilka dni przed obozem ciężkiej kontuzji prawej ręki.

W dniach 27.07-01.08 odbył się, jak co roku, letni obóz Wing Tsun Kungfu we Władysławowie. Zajęcia prowadzili nasi Mistrzowie – Sikung Norbert Máday (8. st. mistrzowki IWTA), oraz Sifu Marek Mikulski (4. st. mistrzowki IWTA).

Tym razem tematem była mistrzowska forma biu tze, oraz jej aplikacje w walce. Jest to szczególne wydarzenie, ponieważ niezależnie od stażu treningowego i stopnia każdy uczeń mógł poznać zaawansowane techniki przekazywane tylko najbardziej zaufanym i sprawdzonym osobom. Według chińskiego przysłowia “biu tze nie opuszcza domu”, co oznacza, że technik tych nie może poznać osoba z zewnątrz, ponieważ są one na tyle niebezpieczne, że ich zastosowanie w walce zazwyczaj kończy się śmiercią przeciwnika. Według chińskich przekazów, formę biu tze opracował dr Leung Jan – pierwsza historycznie poświadczona postać w naszym drzewie genealogicznym.
Po raz pierwszy w obozie Wing Tsun Kungfu wziął udział uczeń z Mławy – Sihing Mirosław Wilk.
Ostatniego dnia odbyły się egzaminy na stopnie uczniowskie i mistrzowskie. Sifu Norbert Sołtysiak i Sifu Andrzej Kominek pozytywnie zdali egzamin na 3. stopnie mistrzowskie, a Simei Prof. Ewa Jodkowska zdała egzamin na 2. stopień mistrzowski. Simei Ewa jest pierwszą, wyjątkową osobą w naszym stowarzyszeniu, która w wieku 60 lat ćwiczy Wing Tsun i posiada tak wysoki stopień. Serdeczne gratulacje:)

I still remember when I arrived at the school the first time to take my introductory lesson.

A few weeks before I had gone out with my roommates to a bar. During our stay we almost got into a brawl with four other guests who were very aggressive and drunk. I was terrified. I had been going to the gym for over a decade and was a pretty advanced yogi but fighting? I did not even know how to make a fist. What would I have done if fight had broken loose?

I called my friend Klaus who had told me that he had started a martial art and how much that had helped his self-confidence. Klaus unfortunately died in a motorcycle accident last year but I will be forever thankful that he gave me Sifu Alex’s number.

Here I was at City Wing Tsun. When I met Sifu the first time I was impressed by how young he was for having his own school (under 30), his self-confidence, his lethal speed and his contagious enthusiasm about Wing Tsun kung fu.

It has rarely happened to me that the moment I meet somebody I know that this person is exactly doing what he or she is meant to do. There is a feeling of “This is it” in the air. You instantly know that he or she is at the right place doing what they are meant to do.

I can only come up with a few people who had and have this aura around them. Immo von Schnurrbein who was my captain while I was in the navy, Richard Avedon the famous photographer when I met him briefly about 13 years ago, my spiritual teacher Michael when he gives sessions and Sifu Alex.

Sifu Alex came to this planet to teach kung fu. I can’t envision a better teacher then him. There are people who are good at something and there are people who can teach. But very rarely you find the combination of both, somebody who is excellent at what they do and at the same time is a fantastic teacher. This is the ideal, then you can really learn something and master the art yourself.

Anybody who lives in the greater New York City and is interested in a martial art that can be used as practical self-defense look not further, you have found the right place!

About two months ago I went to a local bar. A fight broke out between two guys, fists were flying and people were in panic.

The wilder the situation, the more people got involved the calmer I felt.

Last month I shot two days for my kung fu school “City Wing Tsun”.

My friend Marco was so nice to assist me. We started around noon. Since there are a lot of very fast movements in kung fu I had to use a very fast shutter speed to freeze motion. To accomplish that I had to bring lots of lights some being my own others had to be rented. We took a car service from my place in Brooklyn to the city.

Here came the fun part. The school is located on 38th Street and Sixth Avenue on the 4th floor and there is no elevator. It was equipment schlepping time! This is by the way one of the things I don’t like about photography. But it comes with the package.

It took us quite some time to get everything into the school. It was about 1 PM. We set up some lights and I started to shoot immediately. We had a long shot list. Private training, portraits, action shots, close ups, beginner class training, advanced class training and interiors of the school all had to be captured within two shooting days.

Marco and I ran out one more time to get the rental equipment we needed. After that I kept on shooting until about 11pm. I did not even put the camera down or took one break. I shot consistently for eight hours. There was so much going on.

I got many great images that day and the second day. I love this one of Sifu Alex (Sifu=kung fu father/teacher) who is the founder/owner of “City Wing Tsun” while he was training with a 9-foot long pole.

Dnia 11.07.2009 na stadionie mławskim kilkuset Mławian mogło obejrzeć pokaz Wing Tsun Kung Fu. Nasz pokaz poprzedzał występ zespołu Kombi.

W tym roku Mławianie mogli zobaczyć tradycyjnie formy Wing Tsun Kung Fu – siu nim tao i chum kiu, techniki samoobrony, oraz samoobrony kobiet w wykonaniu gościa – Si-Mei Anny Wolskiej (1. st. mistrzowski), instruktora specjalnej sekcji Wing Tsun – grupy tylko dla kobiet. Sihingowie i asystenci w mławskim klubie Mirosław Wilk i Mariusz Licnerski zademonstrowali bardzo dynamiczne aplikacje walki. Pokazaliśmy też walkę z dwoma przeciwnikami, oraz obronę przed przeciwnikiem uzbrojonym w nóż i pałkę. Po raz pierwszy tak duża publiczność mogła zobaczyć też część programu mistrzowskiego – formę biu tze i “ślepe” chi sau, czyli techniki “lepkich rąk” z zasłoniętymi oczami, w wykonaniu prezesa naszego stowarzyszenia – Sifu Marka Mikulskiego i głównego instruktora mławskiej sekcji – Sifu Marcina Błaszaka.
Na pokazie obecna była również mławska prasa.

At Ip Man pre-production press conference held on March 31, it’s announced that Ip Man 2 would commence filming officially in August 2009. Producer Raymond Wong and director Wilson Yip express confidence for the sequel which has a bigger budget – 100m yuan, saying that the sequel will be even more exciting.  The sequel is set in 1949, right after Ip Man arrives in Hong Kong and is about how Ip Man introduces and propagates Wing Chun in the region, and taking in a few disciples. So, in terms of timeline, there won’t be Bruce Lee, and they hope that there would be Bruce Lee in Ip Man 3. While the initial plot outlines for both are done, they would not be shooting Ip Man 3, which would involve Bruce Lee, back to back with Ip Man 2 as previously intended, as they haven’t finalised negotiations with Bruce Lee descendants on the rights.

Above all, martial arts choreographer Sammo Hung – the mystery heavyweight actor mentioned before – will be playing a Hung Gar master in the sequel, and will again be going toe to toe – or rather, finger to finger as the case might be – with Donnie Yen since SPL. Sammo Hung says, “As boss didn’t pay me in the first, I wouldn’t appear in front of the screen. This time I’m getting paid, so I’ll be playing a role too.”

Upon his arrival in Hong Kong, Ip Man notices that the martial arts schools there operate like triads rather than true institutions of martial arts. To set things right, he starts his own school that teaches not just martial arts but also the right values. However, Wing Chun, as taught by Yip Man, is being viewed as kungfu meant only for girls, while Sammo Hung’s Hung Gar is being seen as a macho form of boxing, resulting in exchanges, conflicts and rivalry between the two, with major clash between the two screen titans being main highlight of the sequel.

Fan Siu Wong and Lam Ka Tung will continue to reprise their roles in Ip Man 2. Lam Ka Tung’s Li Zhe will be enlisted in the police force once again in Hong Kong while Fan Siu Wong’s Jin Shan Zhao will turn over a new leaf and retire from the martial arts world (or more appropriately brigandage), becoming an ordinary citizen, and making friends with Yip Man.
With his latest 2 films, Painted Skin and Ip Man, ruling the roost at the box office, Donnie Yen, has become a “hot commodity”, and apart from a share of profits, is getting a substantial pay rise from 10m yuan to 15m yuan for Ip Man 2, says, “Ip Man is indeed my landmark production, this is the first time I’m getting nomination for Best Actor award. I’m grateful to the director, for giving me so much room, presenting an unseen side of Donnie Yen, and also broadening my acting career. It’s also very rare for a kungfu film to receive 12 nominations.

Wing Tsun Kung Fu in Sweden

It’s rare that a sequel surpasses the original, but a recent casting announcement concerning the follow-up to Ip Man (see Reed’s review here) seems to indicate that director Wilson Yip is gearing up to do just that. Legendary action star Sammo Hung has signed on as Donnie Yen’s opponent in the film, playing a macho master of Hung Gar who takes exception to Ip Man’s introduction of Wing Chun to the streets of Hong Kong, a style dismissed as being too feminine. I’m a great admirer of Sammo Hung, having spent the past few months going over some of his early work, so this is quite possibly the best movie news I’ve heard so far this year.

Wilson Yip’s IP Man, a biopic based on the life story Bruce Lee’s first martial arts teacher, won best film at the Hong Kong film awards. No luck for Donnie Yen to make it a double for the flick though, as he failed to scoop the best actor accolade. That honour went to Nick Cheung for his performance in Dante Lam’s gritty action cop drama ‘The beast stalker.’ Perhaps the Don-meister will have better luck next time around. “Ip Man 2” is already scheduled to start production in June, with principal photography expected to last until October. IP2 will continue the story of martial- arts expert Ip Man’s escape from Japanese occupied China into Hong Kong. Director Wilson Yip and Yen are both back on board and the pic is aiming for a release towards the end of 2010. Full winners list below:

Kuntao Tai Chi Chuan Summercamp 2009 in Peterborough, England

Here some information about this years summercamp. The date is 20 -23 august. We will train the whole day and in the evening we go and eat at the lokal restaurant. I guess you already know that the lokal beer  is great in this area. If the weather is nice we will be in the lovely Meadow Park, in Peterborough.

During the camp we will live together at the “Whitehouse”, bed & breakfast (25 pound a day).

Summercamp will this year cost 100 pound.

WIZYTA PRZEDSTAWICIELI SEJMU ORAZ PARLAMENTU WĘGIERSKIEGO W KWATERZE GŁÓWNEJ POLSKIEGO STOWARZYSZENIA WING TSUN

17.06 .2009 gościli u nas przedstawiciele Sejmu oraz Parlamentu Węgierskiego. W skład delegacji pod kierownictwem Dr. Istvána Simicko
(Komisja do Spraw Bezpieczeństwa) wchodzili : Attache Wojskowy Republiki Węgierskiej, oraz przedstawiciele grup roboczych odpowiedzialni za bezpieczeństwo wewnętrzne oraz jednostki specjalne, a także parlamentarzyści i posłowie.

Nasi goście uczestniczyli w specjalnym, zamkniętym pokazie, podczas którego mistrzowie i uczniowie Polskiego Stowarzyszenia Wing Tsun zaprezentowali formy Siu Nim Tao, Chum Kiu, Biu Tze, ćwiczenia samoobrony, chisao, walkę z kilkoma przeciwnikami, program dla jednostek wojskowych i policji, uderzenie jednego cala, oraz formę noży Bart Cham Dao.

Sikung Norbert Máday przywitał serdecznie wszystkich gości i tłumaczył specyfikę naszego stylu, praktyczne podejście do walki, prostotę i skuteczność technik. Niespodzianką był także pokaz Biu Tze chisao w wykonaniu Dr. Istvána Simicko, który prywatnie zajmuje się Wing Tsun już od 13 lat i posiada 3. stopień mistrzowski.

Wśród gości honorowych był także były oficer BOR i aktor znany z serialu “Wydział Zabójstw” Sihing Henryk Dąbrowski. Był to bardzo ważny moment dla wszystkich adeptów autentycznych szkół walki.

Korra näidati selles dokis (pildil) Bruce Leed koos oma WT õpetaja Yip Maniga (Lee õppis 6 aastat WingTsuni). UFC ja Bruce Lee ärasidumine (Bruce Lee kui MMA isa) Dana White`i poolt oli muidugi juba tuttav teema, aga üldiselt rohkem UFC´le kasulik promo, kui päris reaalne seos. Dana unustab meelega ära peamise, et Bruce rääkis omal ajal ikka reaalsest NHB võitlusest, kus kõik on lubatud ja mitte ca 30 keelatud võttega kärbitud kuid ülipopulaarsest võitlusspordialast nimega MMA ning tema suurimast kontrollijast UFCst. Selles võis Lee tütrel muidugi õigus olla, et neid võistlusi Lee täna ilmselt vaataks, kui ta vaid saaks. Kahjuks aga pole tal võimalust oma pärandi mõju ei näha ega suurendada. Selle inimese puhul tunnen tõesti suurt kahjutunnet, et ta eluküünal nii varakult kustus ja me ei saa teada, mida ta veel oleks maailmale andnud.
