Hoy mismo acabamos de recibir el correo, que el equipo organizador de la winterclash envía a los suscritos.

Se trata de los eventos Pre-Winterclash, una serie de competiciones, las cuales servirán para clasificar a los Amateur, además tambíen nos informan de que estan trabajando en el skatepark, que promete ser uno de los mejores hasta el momento.

De momento, seguiremos esperando a los siguientes correos para poder tener más información, os dejo con el correo enviado por Jojo:

It’s time for the first Winterclash 2010 Newsletter.

We know we are quite late and you guys want to know the details, but all we can say right now is that there are reasons for taking that long.
We are working out the details to present you a Winterclash location like never seen before, announced on a website which will be packed with information as always!
Please be patient a couple of more days – we promise it will definitely be worth it!

In the meanwhile we connected with some of the most important events in Europe and created “Official Winterclash Pre-Events”. At these events you will get the chance to win Winterclash Wildcards which make you skip the Winterclash Amateur Qualification and put your name straight into the semi finals. Plus you will get a free weekend pass as well as free registration.
The first three events we picked out are happening in Sweden, the Netherlands and in Germany. If you’re around these areas make sure to not miss them and get into the Winterclash mood. We are proud to be able to work together with them and hope to see you there.

Winterclash 2010 Pre-Events

Hoy mismo, Jojo Jacobi ya ha puesto fecha y lugar para su competición anual, la winterclash, será el 12 y 13 de febrero en Berlín!

Después de los problemas del año pasado (incendio del skatepark justo antes de la competición), mucha gente creía que ya no se celebraría nunca más, pero Jojo no nos ha decepcionado y aquí vuelve a estar.

Promete ser una de las mejores comepticiones del mundo, por no decir la mejor y la primera parada de la World Rolling Series.

I brought my D90 to the Clash, mostly for taking photos, but in the end i don’t even shot one pict, but took a lot of footage. Due to the lack of a good grip for filming on a DSLR (and me not wanting to haul around a tripod) it’s pretty shaky. Mostly i had to concentrate on try to keep the focus and had a lot of shaking and stuff. But it give the whole thing a unique look that looks pretty interesting IMHO.
There is no significant Storyline, we, more or less, go to thru the travel, the pre-clash days, and the whole main happenings incl. the ride back home (who was endless, i tried to capture that in the long outro sequence).
I hope you enjoy that little flick wich is not about hard tricks but more about having a good time and sitting in trains a lot.

we had a strange trainride to eindhoven, we met some swedish rollerbladers and Jason Adriani and his gang.
Unfortunatly our train broke down and we had to change it and roll to a different station to get a connection to eindhoven.
Later we met Quark at the Area51 skatepark and left our bags at his home. The Park is Awesome but still not as good or big as the now burnt down skatepark in Sint-Niklaas. We sure had a lot of fun and rolled for over 8 hours. Sadly Bas’ bag with his skates got stolen but the power of bemag will find and punish the thieves.

Got my new 8-Core mac and had really a lot to do, as i still have.
I’m jsut stopping by to note that i hopefully soon own a little photostudio and
that the Winterclash 09 not is canceled (as some rumors say)

Esse campeonato promete! Não sei quando foi anunciado esse camp, mas fiquei sabendo agora e a lista de atletas inscritos é monstruosa!!! Só a elite do esporte mundial, nomes como Brian Aragon, Alex Broskow, Chaz Sands, Chris Haffey, os irmãos Kelso, só atleta TOP. Por enquanto não tem nenhuma brasileiro na lista, mas espero que a galera da Brasil Inline e da Porwer Slide Brasil faça como fizeram no último Winterclash e vão correr o campeonato e representar o esporte nacional. O evento ocorre dos dias 20 a 22 de junho em Berlim.

A BE-Mag, revista austríaca, se não me engano, acaba de publicar sua edição especial de fotos número 3. A edição conta com o portfólio de vários fotógrafos além da cobertura de alguns eventos como o Bitter Cold Show Down e Winterclash. Segundo o site da revista, essa edição terá mais de 100 páginas(!!!). Getting from city to city in Europe can sometimes be a bit of a freestyle mission, and this was no exception. I had about 36 hours to get from the middle of Germany to the airport in Munich. The afterclash party left me with a solid 30 minutes of sleep before we started the drive, so I was a bit miserable on the autobahn. My friend Flo was driving, and Viola was along for the ride too. Once in Munich, I stumbled across the Mercedes showroom near Violas house, and dropped in for a look. I’m not a big car person, or much of a designer, but this place was really intriguing. The venture ended up with about an hour of me wandering around the place in awe of all the industrial design that went into it. Hundreds of cars all indoors, multiple levels, suspended in the air, on platforms connected with just stairs…I’ve always liked the German architecture. Around this time I started to wish I had a small camera for snapshots, so for now i’ve resorted to pulling images off other websites to give you a glimpse of the place.

On the way to get some dinner I was walking down the road there listening to some music and had one of those “wow life is great right now” moments. It’s hard to explain, but it’s kind of a reflection I’ve had several times before when I start thinking about the recent days, current situation, and all the factors that played out in order for me to end up at that particular spot, and then add an epoch song on the ipod at just that moment, and everything just feels right.

Well without getting too deep, I ended up in line at Subway, since everything else was closed on Sunday. It was a bit awkward being in line, asking to order in English. I’m far from the city center, nowhere near any tourist attractions, and you can feel everybody thinking to themselves “Is this guy lost or something”? Regardless, one of the “sandwich artists” spoke english and I had some dinner thanks to the recent Kendama funds. (for the record, selling Kendamas in Europe has been the only time i’ve gotten the good side of the dollar/euro conversion rate)

There was still lots of time to kill before my flight the next day, and we got a phone call from Jon Julio and the Valo Team who were in a similar “mid-travel” situation and staying at a hostel next to the center station. This was my first introduction to the Wombat. It was a nice surprise, since Alex, Erik, Oli, Jon, and Brandon are all good friends and there was some room in the hostel, and Jon threw me a free breakfast ticket … things were getting better and better.

The Wombat is one of the nicest hostels i’ve ever stayed at. The location is perfect, it’s affordable, and kept up very well. There is a lounge area with hammocks and giant pillows, plus they run their own bar, which doubles as a breakfast room … or maybe the other way around? I should have shot a little bit more, but I snagged a few of these from Brandon’s blog.

We spent some time walking around center station, which has people coming through 24/7. This was the first place I came to on my first trip to Europe, and have probably spent the most time here of all the stations I’ve been in. I went through the archives and found these old photos from the 2005 trip. These are all shot within a few blocks.

Winterclash is the biggest annual rollerblading contest in the World, and I was really looking forward to this trip. The plan was to fly into Munich and meet up with a fellow Be-Mag photographer, Philip Forstner, and then drive up to Mullhausen for the event. I was a little broke, but took $20 and a box of Kendama’s and figured if I sold them all I’d have enough cash to make it through the trip.

We were a few days early so that we could prep and build the Be-Mag booth for the trade show which happens alongside the Winterclash. Philip drew up the designs, and we shopped around at the German version of Home Depot, and got to work. It took a full day to get everything up, and the base paint on, and then our friend Tim from Berlin came in to do all the artwork. It was the most work we’ve put into any of our past booths, and the final product really showed I think.

The contest is always a really intense day, since we were busy with the booth, shooting photos of the contest, live updating everything on the web, and all with very little sleep. There are over a thousand people in the building, and lots of them I’ve met at one time or another at contests, or during travels to different cities. It’s has a festival atmosphere mixed with a reunion feel, topped off with the best skaters in the world all under one roof. Not something that happens everyday.

It’s a long road, indeed, to Mühlhausen, Germany. Surprisingly, though, skaters from all around Europe (and sometimes even further) make the trip to this little town lost in the middle of nowhere in the middle of winter, to experience this crazy event that is the Winterclash.

La route est longue, il est vrai, jusqu’à Mühlhausen, Allemagne. Pourtant, des skaters venant de toute l’Europe (et parfois meme bien plus loin) font le voyage chaque année jusque cette petite ville perdue au milieu de nulle part et au milieu de l’hiver, pour vivre cette folle experience qu’est le Winterclash.

Hans and myself left Amsterdam quite early, so after drinking a fair amount of coffee, we took a train to Arnhem, near the German border, to meet up with some other Dutch hooligans, and drive all the way to the Clash. It went kind of fast, actually, since we managed to get some more sleep before attending that crazy week-end, and we finally made it to Mühlhausen in the middle of the afternoon on Friday.

Hans et moi-même avons quitté Amsterdam très (trop) tôt. Après avoir bu une bonne quantité de café, nous avons pris le train pour Arnhem, près de la frontière Allemande, pour retrouver d’autres Hooligans et conduire jusqu’au Clash. Essayant de gagner un peu de sommeil avant d’affronter la folie des jours à venir, le voyage passa relativement rapidement, et nous sommes finalement arrivés au milieu de l’après-midi du vendredi.

Right after buying our passes for the week-end and entering the skate park, we decided to check the new bar and get some beers. Needless to say, it’s not a very smart way to save money, nor a very good idea if you want to stay sober for the week-end. But the great thing about the Winterclash is that it’s not only about the crazy skating that goes down or the contest itself, but about having a good time with friends from all over the world, partying and (sometimes) having a chill session going.

Juste après avoir acheté nos passes pour le week-end et pénétré l’enceinte du skate park, nous avons décidé de tester le nouveau bar et de boire une mousse. Cela va sans dire, ce n’est pas une très bonne façon d’économiser de l’argent, ni une très bonne idée si vous souhaitez rester sobre pour le week-end. Mais le bon côté d’un événement comme le Winterclash, c’est qu’il ne s’agit pas seulement du skating foufou la praline ou de la competition en elle-même, mais de passer un bon moment avec des amis d’un peu partout dans le monde, de faire la fête et (parfois) de rouler tranquillement le park.

My highlight of the week-end was definitely getting to meet all my internet buddies from the Be-Mag messageboard, Le Fagz Crew. And we rule as hard in real life as we rule the internet ! And since the Be-Mag booth made a paper version of the message board during the tradeshow, I can assure you that we spammed this board too ! First one we met is my homie Bartek from Poland, but soon after arrived the Swiss people, as well as a shit load of French people from all over the country, and actually way too many people to list. And as always, it’s great meeting new friends and getting to spend some time with the old ones (Yohan, I really hope we’ll eventually get time to see each other more). While going from a discussion to the other and chatting with everyone, there was still some solid skating going down, and people got to shred the park in prevision of the comp that was held on Saturday. Eventually, everybody bounced to the Mc Donald’s nearby while they closed the park to prepare the camping spot, and I chose to make some interesting experiments (see the dedicated topic on FrenchyFries website). That was my only warm food for the week-end, and it was helpful to survive the night in the skate park without a sleeping bag, even though the whole place was heated…

Winterclash ‘08 by Razors

Un des meilleurs moments du week-end a vraiment été de rencontrer tous mes copains du forum Be-Mag, Le Fagz Crew. Et on pèse aussi lourd dans la vraie vie que sur le net ! Et puisque le stand Be-Mag avait mis au point une version papier du forum pendant le Tradeshow, on s’est appliqué a en prendre possession. J’ai d’abord rencontré Bartek, venu tout droit de Pologne, puis les Suisses, ainsi qu’une tripotée de français venus de tout le pays, et puis bien trop de monde en vérité pour commencer à en faire la liste. Comme toujours, c’était génial de rencontrer de nouvelles personnes, tout comme le fait de pouvoir passer un peu de temps avec les amis de longue date (Yohan, j’espère vraiment qu’on aura un jour le temps de se voir au calme). Pendant que je passais d’une discussion à une autre et que je papotais avec tout ce joli monde, il y avait du skating bien costaud, et la foule a bien pris possession du park en prevision de la compétition qui avait lieu le lendemain, Samedi. Au final, tout le monde s’est déplacé jusqu’au Mac Donald’s tout proche, pendant que les organisateurs préparaient le park pour la nuit, et j’ai décidé de faire quelques expérimentations culinaires (voir le sujet qui y est dédié sur le site Frenchy Fries ). Ce fut mon seul repas chaud du week-end, et ça m’a aidé à survivre à la nuit dans le skatepark sans sac de couchage, bien que le park soit chauffé…

On Saturday, the comp got crazy, no need to tell you that, or to describe you the tricks that went down, you’ll just have to watch the pictures and videos by yourself. All I can tell you it that it was really nice to watch all the tricks that went down from the very top of the huge vert ramp, and that you can just be amazed when you witness such an incredible amount of talent first hand. And also feel really proud for our sport/lifestyle. And talking about the lifestyle, it definitely was some dedication to spend my second night in the skate park, sometimes fearing for my life considering the wild crowd attending the Afterclash huge party, and trying to get some rest in the middle of the dead bodies ah ah ! Great times… But these great moments were coming to an end, since on Sunday morning we would have to leave, and little did I knew that my way back to France would be everything but easy…

Le samedi, la compétition fut bien folle, pas besoin de vous le préciser, ou bien de vous décrire toutes les acrobaties qui ont eu lieu, vous aurez simplement à regarder les vidéos pour cela. Tout ce que je peux dire c’est que ce fut là un joli spectacle que j’ai admiré du haut de la rampe, et qu’on peut juste être heureux d’être le témoin d’autant de talent à roulettes. Et fier, aussi, fier pour notre sport/lifestyle. Et en parlant de lifestyle, ça demandait pas mal de passion et de dévouement pour passer cette seconde nuit dans le park, craignant parfois pour ma vie en considérant la foule sauvage qui participait à l’Afterclash, et essayant de me reposer au milieu des corps sans vie ah ah ! De bons moments… Mais ces bons moments allaient bientôt toucher à leur fin, puisque le lendemain matin nous aurions à nous mettre en route, et j’étais bien loin de m’imaginer que le chemin du retour vers la France serait loin d’être facile…
