As we all know, kettlebells are starting to gain popularity in the fitness industry as a great tool. Alot of trainers out there also incorporate them into their clients training regime and also their own. From my experience, I use alot of kettlebells in my own training and also my clients. Many of them are amazed from the results they get from training with kettlebells, and when I say training with kettlebells, I mean doing Kettlebell lifts and not using them for lateral raises or bicep curls. You can do those  with machines or  dumbells. Kettlebells lifts are ballistic and compound moves which strengthens tendons and ligaments and has many more other benefits( Refer to the post on “Its all about the Kettlebells”). 

Just like bench pressing is in the technique or even a golf swing, Kettlebell lifts are also technique which needs to be mastered before they can be taught to another person or client. If you are picking up  kettlebells or if your trainer is using them with you, ensure your own safety by checking if they are a certified kettlebell coach. If the lifts are performed wrongly, it can result in severe injuries. Kettlebell coaches are usually certified with RKC ( Russian Kettlebell Certification), IKFF ( International Kettlebell Fitness Federation), RMAX International or WKC ( World Kettlebell Club). If the moves are just swings and your trainer wants to try them out with your consent, then its alright. Moves like clean, snatches and jerks are very technical and require alot of technique. Even tougher technical move would be double kettlebell lifts. So, if you are really into kettlebell lifts, ensure that the person who is teaching you has enough skills,experience and coaching under his belt or at least perform his own kettlebell lifts confidently.  Always ensure your own saftey..

Shortly after I got to the Hotel in Zagreb, I met Joachim from Germany. We had previously met at the AKC certification course in Switzerland in 2008.

He gave me a ride to the Underground/ Core gym, as he had to make rank (69 reps) that evening with the 24s before competing the day after.  My hat off to you, Joachim!

It  was easy to see where the gym gets its name from, as it occupies the underground car park floor under a fitness and wellness center. This is the best non traditional gym I have see to date, with equipment for strongmen events ( yokes, tractor tyres, farmers walkbars, and even something that looks like the wheel in “Conan”!), but also traditional bench and squat rack, trapbar and so on,  plenty of different pull up and dip stations (thick ropes, rings, you name it it’s there!), mats and sandbags for boxing and MMA, and of course plenty of kettlebells!

There I met Gregor and his lifters, Bruno and the local croatian lifters, Cate Imes and the Ice chamber crew, and Kukka from Finland, plus Katarina and Svetlana from the UK.

Some people had to make rank before being allowed to compete, and Cate went into detail about legal reps and judging.

My back still being sore after the long drive from Italy a few days before, I chose to take it easy. I had only trained once that week with the 16s to be sure I could compete.

There was a great atmosphere building up in the gym. One thing to say for the Croatians, they’re one of the most hospitable and friendly people I have ever come across! They were really keen to talk, joke and show me around!

The evening went rather quick, but I got the chance to catch up  with the Ice chamber crew over dinner.

Sunday morning, we started with the weigh in. I was under 70kg, as always!

23 people turned up to lift. For the first WKC meet in Europe, we were 7 nations! What a great start! The event was well organized, and went smoothly!

Girls started to lift and soon enough it was my turn. Again, that jelly leg feeling came over me. I started off way too fast, but since I had made up my mind to do 50 reps, I held the tempo and was done in 5 minutes.

Going from 8 rpm to 10 rpm made a huge difference in my forearms. They were thrashed like never before! The breath and heart rate were fine… My back wasn’t too happy, but I couldn’t just make it down to competition and not lift!

My fast tempo freaked Nenad who was lifting next to me, but he eventually slowed down and finished a great set!

I saw some great lifting and  some people really pushing their limits and battling their desire to stop. It was a great show!

Joachim impressed me a lot. Only a few hours after a hard effort, he competed with 28s and nearly made rank once more! That’s great! 49 years old and working as a CPA shows that there is really no excuses for being in good shape!

Before giving out medals, some guys and girls made a good show with heavy one arm jerks. 57 and 64 kg for guys and 32 and 36 kg for girls! Nice work!

To conclude this competition, we went out for some for some drinks and food, Croatian style! What a great  evening! Just don’t mention the word Pizza in front of me for a while…

My new friend Dalibor got run over by a car only a short while ago. So we went for a pizza eating comp to make up for it! Not clever…

Non mi dilungherò nel presentare Fabrizio Mandia perchè non credo che ci sia un solo kendoka che non lo conosca. Per tutti coloro che non si sono ancora avvicinati al kendo, con la speranza che leggendo questa intervista lo facciano presto, posso dire che si tratta dell’emblema del kendo agonistico italiano, Campione Europeo 2004, pluri Campione Italiano (ultimo Campionato Italiano vinto nel 2009), punta di diamante della nostra Nazionale ai recenti Campionati del Mondo in Brasile occasione in cui gli è stato conferito il premio  Fighting Spirit. Insomma…è l’uomo da battere, il punto di riferimento per tutti coloro che praticano kendo a livello agonistico.

Il Kendo l’ho scoperto per puro caso, mio fratello aveva cominciato con l’Aikido e io a ruota dietro di lui. In Palestra terminata la lezione di aikido mi fermavo spesso a guardare affascinato la lezione successiva che era quella del kendo, e cosi decisi di provare…avevo 14 anni ora ne ho 27. All’inizio ero completamente NEGATO: disarmonico, scordinato, svogliato, ecc.ecc. ma poi con il tempo mi sono appassionato tantissimo ed oggi posso affermare con certezza che il kendo fa parte del mio essere.  Credo che in Italia come in Europa non ci siano  veri MAESTRI ma solo dei buoni istruttori .Il Maestro  deve avere carisma. Egli non e’ solo una guida di kendo ma anche un punto  di riferimento nella vita  e nel sociale: insomma un “Maestro di vita” . Premesso  ciò, ci sono,  fortunatamente,  pochissimi elementi che pensano di essere MAESTRI  ed  altri che con la loro umilta’ elevano il loro valore  di uomo  e  di Kendoka. Il mio Istruttore Ferdinando Magarotto mi ha dato molto, mi ha fatto capire da bambino cosa significhi il sacrificio, la derminazione, la malizia, la voglia di vincere, ma devo dire grazie anche ad altre due persone che hanno contribuito alla mia crescita agonistica tipo LIVIO LANCINI – WALTER POMERO.

Rileggendo questa domanda mi viene in mente quando avevo appena iniziato a praticare Kendo e vedevo i big di questa disciplina: Pasquale Scarcella, Petri Matteo, Walter Pomero, Riccardo Costa ,  veramente irraggiungibili. Quando partecipavo alle  prime gare ed uscivano le pool per le individuali ed a squadre incrociavo sempre le dita per non incontrarli. Ben presto ho però capito che l’importante era comunque battersi fino in fondo sempre, cercando di dare il meglio di sé stessi. Nel kendo la fortuna, l’esperienza e il talento giocano un ruolo fondamentale , l’importante è affrontare sempre tutti  gli incontri con  lo spirito  giusto, lo spirito dell’atleta e dello sportivo…lo stesso spirito con il quale ho affrontato ai Campionati del Mondo di Kendo a S. Paolo UCHIMURA neo campione del Giappone ed  ho vinto. Quindi mi sento di consigliare ai ragazzi che vogliono riuscire a emergere nel kendo agonistico, di non risparmiarsi mai e dare sempre  il meglio di sé stessi e negli allenamenti e nelle competizioni.

Dicci la cosa che ricordi con più piacere del mondiale appena disputato.

Sicuramente un ricordo indelebile e memorabile sara’ sempre quello di aver battuto un professionista giapponese, nonche’ campione del Giappone in carica, nella competizione a squadre, non lo dimentichero’ mai! e poi l’affiatamento del Team Nazionale, semplicemente spettacolare :  tutti in linea, nessun scostamento, tutti pronti e determinati ma sopratutto tantissimo amici!

Cosa hai pensato quando ai recenti Mondiali di Kendo in Brasile hai vinto il tuo shiai contro la squadra giapponese?

La mia prima parola pronunciata a Walter Pomero in qualita’ di tecnico appena uscito dall’area di gara è stata ” MA…ALLORA E’ POSSIBILE!!!..MA ALLORA E’ POSSIBILE!!!” lo avrò ripetuto circa una decina di volte mentre mi toglievo il men…poi a caldo  ho pensato e riflettuto sul mio combattimento e  sono stato fiero e orgoglioso di essere  riuscito in questa impresa. Credo  di essere stato il primo europeo ,  nella Storia di un Campionato del  Mondo di Kendo, a vincere  un uncontro con un Giapponese Professionista.

C’è un grande divario, secondo te, tra il kendo giapponese e quello delle altre nazioni?

Assolutamente no, è vero che ci sono Nazionali che stanno ancora lavorando sul prorpio livello tecnico e di Kendo in  generale ma  ,visto il mio risultato agli ultimi mondiali, un grande divario direi prorpio di no.

L’Accademia Kodokan di Alessandria ha sfornato e sta sfornando un elevato numero di campioni (basti pensare al numero di atleti Kodokan presenti in Nazionale). Come si cresce un gruppo così? C’è uno studio particolare dello shiai? Una propensione maggiore all’aspetto agonistico del kendo?

La fortuna principale che abbiamo al Kodokan è sicuramente quella che oltre che atleti, siamo una squadra, un gruppo consolidato di amici anche fuori dalla palestra, siamo persone reduci da trasferte in Giappone e Corea. Tutto questo ci ha permesso di crescere insieme sia nel kendo che nel sociale.

Il fare  gruppo e partire quasi tutti i week end per  partecipare a gare in Francia, Germania, Svizzera, Inghilterra, ecc ecc non ha fatto altro che fortificare il Team, ormai consolidato, del Kodokan, che ha  così  raggiunto risultati importanti sia a livello Nazionale che Internazionale. Un’altro punto inportantissimo del Kodokan riguarda l’eta’ media dei principianti che si aggira intorno ai 20 anni, quindi gli allenamenti sono molto intensi, con un ritmo di esecuzione molto pesante  sempre mirati quindi alla preparazione di competizioni varie o di esami per il passaggio di grado.  Solo i risultati possono affermare se questa sia la strada giusta e finora non sono macati quindi perseveriamo su questa linea.

Veniamo alle cose più tecniche. Svelaci l’allenamento che trasforma in campioni. Qual è la tecnica o il tuo colpo preferito?

…..è un po’ come chiedere  la ricetta segreta a Vissani…le porte di Kodokan sono aperte con piacere a tutti !! quindi venite di persona a vedere, basta armarsi di determinazione e un po’ di fiato giusto quello che serve per arrivare a fine lezione. colpo preferito !?…Kote-Men

Alcune testimonianze di Maestri giapponesi ci raccontano di allenamenti estenuanti e di pressioni altrettanto forti derivanti dalle grandi aspettative di vittoria. Il fatto di dover essere comunque sempre all’altezza delle aspettative ti crea pressioni particolari o nel tempo hai imparato a gestire queste situazioni?

Bella domanda…mi viene in mente l’anno dopo che vinsi il titolo Europeo nel 2004…ai Campionati Europei. Percepivo una pressione incredibile su di me…quasi dovessi dimostrare qualcosa a qualcuno e che tutti al di fuori erano pronti a giudicarmi a ogni mio minimo errore o colpo vincente, lo stesso accadeva l’anno dopo aver vinto un titolo italiano. Credo che tutto questo sia normalissimo. Sono io il primo che osserva in competizione coloro che sono forti, coloro che spiccano nel combattimento perchè anche cosi si impara a fare kendo. Ora le cose sono leggermente cambiate nel senso che a questo tipo di pressioni e stress reagisco in maniera molto piu’ naturale e quando entro in gioco penso solo ed eslusivamente a dare il meglio di me ed a divertirmi nel pieno rispetto delle regole e del mio avversario.

Abbiamo parlato molto di shiai, cambiando discorso ti chiederei che importanza ha , per te, la pratica dei kata e quanto tempo e attenzione dedichi al loro studio?

I Kata sono sempre stati il mio spauracchio..in tempo passato, rispolverati prima di un esame e poi riposti in ripostiglio fino all’esame successivo.  Oggi li ho rivalutati molto, perche’ credo siano una parte importante del Kendo che permette di interpretare al meglio questa disciplina .

Jeff Rubenstein, Social Media Manager de SCEA, ha desvelado en el PlayStation Blog Americano nuevos detalles del modo de Juego Online de White Knight Chronicles, cuyo lanzamiento está previsto para Primavera en Europa y América.

Los modos de Juego Online se desbloquearán una vez que completes el Capítulo 1 del Modo Historia y en él encontraremos GeoNet, Georama y Subquests.

GeoNet es una red social en la que los jugadores de WKC podrán conocerse e interactuar para completar búsquedas multijugador.

Georama es el lugar donde podrás crear tu propia aldea, que servirá de sala para las partidas Online. Hay tres tipos diferentes de terrenos donde crear tu Georama con 18 combinaciones diferentes. Podrás modificar la posición de los edificios e infraestructuras e incluso el terreno. Una de las características que mas os gustará será la posibilidad de reclutar a los NPCs del modo Historia para que vivan en la ciudad. Los NPCs tienen sus propios trabajos y niveles, lo que hará que tu aldea sea aún más diferente. Además, tanto tu como tus amigos podréis visitar las tiendas y comprar nuevos items. Hasta 12 jugadores de América o Europa podrán conectarse a un Georama a la vez.

Subquest a diferencia del modo Historia, que se centra en Leonard, controlarás a tu propio avatar. Conforme avances en la historia, las misiones estarán disponibles. Cuando sean completadas, recibirás puntos que harán subir tu rango. Cuanto más alto sea el rango, más misiones y armas estarán disponibles. podrás jugar con tus amigos o realizar una búsqueda de partidas. Habrán 50 misiones en el lanzamiento del juego y se irán añadiendo nuevas poco a poco.

les recordamos que recientemente se confirmó la disponibilidad del Chat de Voz y que las versiones Americana y Europea contarán con todas las actualizaciones lanzadas en Japón.

Finally, it is starting tomorrow.

I think it will be an interesting game this years as how the ranking will be changed between the four countries, Korea, US, Japan and Taiwan.

Last 13th WKC at Taipei Taiwan was a historical event as it was the first time Japan lost the 1st place and Korea won the 1st.

I am sure that things will change again and good luck to my home country Korea Team and the Taiwan Team, especially to those whom I had chance for keiko at ShuTao Dojo.

Il 24 giugno si sono svolti nella sede centrale dell’”International Kendo Federation” (FIK) i sorteggi per definire i tabelloni della 14° edizione dei Campionati Mondiali di Kendō in Brasile.

Pubblicata sul sito del Zen Nippon Kendō Renmei la lista dei convocati per l’imminente Coppa del Mondo in Brasile. Visti i nomi e, soprattutto, il desiderio di rivalsa che animerà i convocati dopo la débâcle della nazionale giapponese ai 13° Campionati del Mondo di Taiwan, si prospetta un’edizione dei mondiali decisamente molto interessante. Forse la più interessante da quando è stata istituita questa competizione.
Questo perché se il Giappone dovesse perdere il primato per la seconda volta di fila, allora di sicuro qualcosa cambierebbe nel mondo del kendō; soprattutto nella maniera in cui vengono percepiti i rapporti di forza. Il kendō, al pari di altre discipline giapponesi ora olimpiche come ad esempio il judō, potrebbe vedere sul podio della Coppa del Mondo non più il solito copione con il Giappone primo, la Corea del Sud seconda e terze e quarte le squadre composte da immigrati giapponesi (Canada, Brasile, eccetera).
Ma, personalmente, questa sembra una prospettiva ancora assai lontana. Anche perché il divario tecnico e, soprattutto, il dislivello nel numero dei praticanti tra Giappone e resto del mondo – con la sola Corea del Sud a poter contare numeri importanti – è ancora molto profondo. Certo, qui entrerebbe in gioco l’annosa questione del kendō come sport ammesso alle Olimpiadi, unica vera maniera per permetterne la crescita al di fuori dei confini del paese d’origine, ma con i cascami e le relative conseguenze negative che tutti immaginiamo.

Vedremo quindi come andrà a finire. Se lo spirito di corpo, l’effettiva superiorità e la necessaria umiltà mancata nella precedente edizione del mondiale, dove un bolso Giappone si è visto estromettere in semifinale da una determinatissima nazionale statunitense – anche grazie a decisioni arbitrali non sempre ‘brillanti’ ma una volta tanto non a vantaggio dei più forti -, permetteranno alla squadra che può permettersi di schierare contemporaneamente mostri del calibro di Teramoto, Uchimura e Shōdai di aggiudicarsi il podio più alto e conseguentemente confermare il primato nipponico nel mondo del kendō.

Ahora seguramente te preguntarás que tiene de especial este juego, pues resulta que es el juego de PS3 que más rapido ha vendido el mayor numero de copias en Japón, estando varias semanas en el top 10 de el pais asiatico, además de ser el juego que más ha impulsado la venta de Hardware (superando a MGS4).

Stump struts his stuff

Stump the Sussex Spaniel has not only won the hallowed Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, but he also has the distinction of being (a) the oldest dog, and (b) the first of his breed, to win the coveted Silver Cup awarded to “Best In Show” at this esteemed event.

Stump impressed me not only for his good looks and perfect breed attributes, since, having had mutts all my life, I’m far from a pro at knowing what makes a Sussex Spaniel a perfect Sussex Spaniel. No, what I loved about Stump was the fact that he showed up.

Seems that Stump was down for the count just a few years ago. After overcoming a severe bacterial infection that might have laid low a lesser specimen, Stump – officially retired until entering the Westminster – returned to the ring just because his people thought he looked good, and “…wanted Stump to have a good time.”

For those of us doing the math, Stump is, in human years, anywhere from 62 to 72 years old, depending on which calculation you choose to employ. In other words, not your run-of-the-mill young starlet.

Granted, he must have some powerful genes in his corner, and probably top-notch veterinary and home care. But still, he’s an old man.

And that’s what we love about him. He’s the Phoenix risen from the ashes. Several years ago, when faced with a severe illness, lesser humans could have elected to “just put him down…” or at least keep him far away from younger, healthier competitors. Here’s the full list of Trophies for White Knight Chronicles. The list isn’t completely accurate, seeing as how PS3Trophies doesn’t list the source of their article and decided to use Google to translate whatever they found, so I had to fix up what they said. Sorry. Also, there’s a new story trailer for the game, located after the Trophies. If I find a better quality version, I’ll update the video.

Platinum Crown
An Ancient King’s crown said to be in possession of those who have drawn all from the world.

Bronze Trophies

Item Searcher
A bronze figurine of a card, given when a person collects 100 different types of items.

Weapon Searcher
A bronze figurine of a Swordsman, given when a person collects 50 different kinds of equipment.

Bronze Star
A glowing copper medal that reflects the spirit of the person, given when they draw and use one of their skills.

Corner of Copper Ornaments
The corner of a genie shaped ornament, given when a person defeats 100 monsters.

Proof of the Hunter
A certificate awarded by the Order to those that clear 5 quests with an S rank.

Moth Man Stone
A slightly moist item given to those who synthesised 50 species, given by the Henchman.

Bronze Medal
A medal shaped like a long grain of rice, given to the adventurous members of the Guild.

Bronze Embroidered Drawstring Bag
Given when a person earns 10′000 10 Gilda coins.

Silver Trophies

Silver Medal
A medal shaped after the Guild’s chief rice, given only to the praised members of the Guild.

Clarification of the Certificate
A certificate awarded by the Order to those that clear 20 quests with an S rank.

Item Mania
A silver figurine of a card, given when a person collects 300 different types of items.

Weapon Mania
A silver figurine of a Swordsman, given when a person collects 200 different kinds of equipment.

The Corner of the Favorite Decorations
The corner of a large headed ornament, given when a person defeats 3000 monsters.

Amanda’s Ruby
A slightly moist item given to those who synthesised 200 species by Madam Amanda.
