Women are vital to the very existence of all humans. After all, men are born from women, not the other way around. Allah the Majestic tells us in the Quran that He has created both men and women, all from a single person, Adam, peace and blessings be upon him. From Adam, Allah created his mate (Eve) and from these two Allah brought forth many men and many women.

Allah also tells us he created us all from a single soul and from him, brought forth his mate and from these two He created many tribes and nations and made us all different so that we might recognize one another.

Wives in Islam are considered mates to their “other half.” The prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) taught his followers to get married and fulfill and complete the “other half” of their religion or way of life. Marriage is considered a complimenting of two halves to each other in Islam. These teachings seemed strange to the revealing attitude toward women at that time.

At a time when the rest of the world, from Greece and Rome to India and China, considered women as no better than children or even slaves, with no rights whatsoever, Islam acknowledged women’s equality with men in a great many respects. The Quran states:

“And among His signs is this: that He created mates for you from yourselves that you may find rest and peace of mind in them, and He ordained between you love and mercy. Certainly, herein indeed are signs for people who reflect.” [Noble Quran 30:21]

Prophet Muhammad said:

“The most perfect in faith amongst believers is he who is best in manners and kindest to his wife.” [Source: “Sunnan” of Abu Dawud]

Muslims believe that Adam and Eve were created from the same soul. Both were equally guilty of their sin and fall from grace, and Allah forgave both. Many women in Islam have had high status; consider the fact that the first person to convert to Islam was Khadijah, the wife of Muhammad, whom he both loved and respected. His favorite wife after Khadijah’s death, Ayshah, became renowned as a scholar and one of the greatest sources of Hadith literature. Many of the female Companions accomplished great deeds and achieved fame, and throughout Islamic history there have been famous and influential scholars and jurists.

We might also mention that while many in the West criticize Islam with regard to the treatment of women, in fact a number of Muslim countries have had women rulers and presidents. To name a few: Turkey; Bangladesh and Pakistan.

With regard to education, both women and men have the same rights and obligations. This is clear in Prophet Muhammad’s saying:

“Seeking knowledge is mandatory for every believer.” [Hadith (saying of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) collected by Ibn Majah] This implies men and women.

A woman is to be treated as God has endowed her, with rights, such as to be treated as an individual, with the right to own and dispose of her own property and earnings, enter into contracts, even after marriage. She has the right to be educated and to work outside the home if she so chooses. She has the right to inherit from her father, mother, and husband. A very interesting point to note is that in Islam, unlike any other religion, a woman can be an imam, a leader of communal prayer, for a group of women.

A Muslim woman also has obligations. All the laws and regulations pertaining to prayer, fasting, charity, pilgrimage, doing good deeds, etc., apply to women, albeit with minor differences having mainly to do with female physiology.

Before marriage, a woman has the right to choose her husband. Islamic law is very strict regarding the necessity of having the woman’s consent for marriage. The groom gives a marriage dowry to the bride for her own personal use. She keeps her own family name, rather than taking her husband’s. As a wife, a woman has the right to be supported by her husband even if she is already rich. She also has the right to seek divorce and custody of young children. She does not return the dowry, except in a few unusual situations.

Despite the fact that in many places and times some Muslims have not always adhered to all or even many of the foregoing in practice, the ideal has been there for 1,400 years, while virtually all other major civilizations did not begin to address these issues or change their negative attitudes until the 19th and 20th centuries, and there are still many contemporary civilizations which have yet to do so.

The prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered his companions never to mistreat their wives. He scolded them and admonished them, saying “How could you treat them like animals in the day and then want to be intimate with them at night.”

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said it all in a simple sentence,

“The best of you are the best to their wives; and I am the best to my wives.”

The number of people in the region with HIV has risen by 8% in one year.

The latest figures from the UK’s Health Protection Agency show there were 2,641 people with diagnosed HIV in the East Midlands at the end of 2008 – up from 2,445 at the end of 2007.

HIV charity the Terrence Higgins Trust is calling for a new national HIV screening programme on the NHS.

Mick Mason, centre manager for Terrence Higgins Trust in the East Midlands, said around 6,000 people in the region probably had undiagnosed HIV which was “completely unacceptable”.

Editor’s Comment: There are generally four types of people who are getting HIV, only one of them innocent.

HIV affects intravenous drug users (shared needles, shared diseases), homosexuals (shoving things up holes where they dont belong causes a lot of blood and HIV spreads in bodily fluids) and promiscuous heterosexuals (those bodily fluids again).

The only innocents are those who are unfortunately married to one of the above types of people and are given the disease by them.

Therefore as Muslims we should condemn such disgusting behaviour, rightly say HIV is a punishment to this society from Allah for violating the laws of Allah and make sure our sons and daughters don’t marry fasiqoon (open evil doers) who engage in such evil behaviour.

Brothers and sisters, be wary of marrying those who follow evil sinful ways, you might be innocent but accepting such a marriage proposal just to please your family could lead to catching nasty diseases.

Allah tells us in the Quran, pure for the pure, and of-course people become pure again spiritually when they make Tawbah but if brothers and sisters, young or old, have made Tawbah for past behaviour it is best they go get a medical and make sure they’ve not picked up any nasty passengers along their journey in life whether HIV or other STD’s.

From the BBC

Conservative peer Baroness Warsi of Dewsbury, named Britain’s most powerful Muslim woman, has been pelted with eggs during a visit to Luton.

Baroness Warsi was taking part in a walkabout in the predominantly Muslim Bury Park area of Luton when she was confronted by a group of protesters.

The male protesters accused her of not being a proper Muslim and supporting the death of Muslims in Afghanistan.

Baroness Warsi, who was hit by at least one egg, debated with the men.

The shadow minister for community cohesion and social action was then taken into a nearby shop.

‘Views challenged’

Baroness Warsi told the BBC that the men were “idiots who did not represent the majority of British Muslims”.

She said these type of protesters “bring Muslims into huge disrepute”.

“I stood up to this group and said I challenge your views,” she told BBC News.

“They just weren’t prepared to listen. They shouted. I said if you want to have this debate, listen.”

She continued her walkabout with a police escort.

One of the protesters against Baroness Warsi, Sayful Islam, told the BBC they were “against everything she stands for”.

He said: “She is not a practising Muslim. Clearly by looking at her she does not represent Muslims.”

He said he and his fellow protesters did not throw the eggs at her.

Baroness Warsi was named as one of the most powerful women in The Power List – chosen by a panel led by Trevor Phillips, chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

The award was set up to celebrate high performers in business, the arts, media, voluntary and public sectors.

Editor’s Comments: Although we don’t condone the actions of who ever it was who got carried away and threw eggs at her, this woman would actually get far worse under the Shariah of Allah.

Allah alone has the right to legislate, as he tells us in Surah Yusuf and whom-so-ever takes this right by legislating man made law becomes a Taghoot (false idol besides Allah) and in general principle is a murtad, though the list of preventions of takfir should be checked first in this case before someone gives Takfir but she is clearly upon Kufr by her previous statements regarding Allah’s law and her siding with the non-Muslims against the believers.

Baroness Warsi is about a poor a role model as you could get for Women in Britain today and shame on her for her disgusting behaviour and speech and shame on all those Muslims who don’t stand up to her and her like whether they are men or women.

First official confirmation of prisoner swap for Gilad Shalit captured in 2006

From the Guardian newspaper

Israel revealed for the first time today it is ready to release nearly 1,000 Palestinian prisoners to secure the freedom of Gilad Shalit, the Israeli soldier held captive in Gaza.

The government said it was preparing for the possible release of 450 prisoners, whose names were proposed by Hamas, in the first stage of what would be Israel’s biggest prisoner swap in more than 20 years. Once Shalit, who was captured near Gaza in June 2006, was freed then another 530 prisoners, whose names will be chosen by Israel, would be released. Although the approximate figures have been known for several weeks, this was the first time the government has officially confirmed the size of the deal and suggests real progress has been made towards a prisoner swap.

Indirect negotiations have continued for months between Israel and Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist group which is holding Shalit in Gaza.

Since July, German intelligence officers have been mediating in the talks.

The figures were contained in an Israeli government response to a high court petition brought by the families of Israeli victims of terrorist attacks who are opposed to the release of Palestinian prisoners. The announcement does not mean the deal has yet been reached. There are reportedly still disagreements over the names of prisoners to be freed and where they will go once they are released.

The Israeli government response has talked of the “possibility” of such a prisoner swap of 450 Palestinians “in principle” in return for Shalit’s freedom and the list of names has not been finalised, according to the websites of the Ha’aretz and Yedioth Ahronoth newspapers tonight.

The release of the prisoners was “being examined in detail in accordance with different considerations and based on rationales of security and values”, the government said.

“It should be stressed that contrary to the release of prisoners as part of a gesture and/or diplomatic agreement, this is an incident of bargaining, which can be seen as an ongoing terror attack, as part of which negotiations are being held to reach the lowest price possible as far as the state of Israel is concerned.”

Israel has already said that the cabinet will vote on any prisoner swap before it happens and in the past the names of prisoners to be released are published 48 hours in advance to allow for legal challenges. Israel’s prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, will be in Germany tomorrow with several members of his cabinet for a special joint government meeting, which suggests a Shalit deal may be days away at the earliest. Palestinian officials have said it may yet be several weeks before a deal happens, if it happens at all.Shalit’s parents, Noam and Aviva, met with the Israeli foreign minister, Avigdor Lieberman today[SUN] but were non-committal about the possibility of a deal. “I am not feeling encouraged nor am I ill at ease,” Noam Shalit was quoted as saying on his way into the meeting. “We are still waiting.”

Editor’s Comment: Leicester Islamic Standard welcomes the release of our brothers and sisters from the jails of the Jewish colonial occupiers.

Many of them, especially the women have suffered as they have been away from their families for a long time, away from their children, locked up without trial or charges being brought, abused and attacked by the evil zionists in their prison cells where they are defenseless, stipped of their hijab and dignity.

It should be remembered that Hamas, an Islamic movement has overwhelming popularity amongst the Palestinian people and where they do good deeds we should aid them, even if only in our Du’as and where they are mistaken we should make du’a for them even more.

Islamophobic attack on Muslim students – From the Muslim News

An 18-year-old Muslim student was attacked and beaten even after he lost consciousness by a gang of white youths on November 6. As they attacked him, they shouted “Where is your Allah now” and “Where is He to help you now.”

The first year business and computer undergraduate student had just left De Montfort University, Leicester, library with his friend at around 8.30 pm when they were attacked by around 10 white youths in Great Central Way, near the junction with Briton Street, Bede Island. The two students, Ahmed and Umar, (not their real name as they wish to remain anonymous) saw the gang taunting and abusing a Muslim woman wearing the hijab. She was with two other women who had gone ahead of her.

Ahmed told The Muslim News that he and Umar heard the gang tell the middle aged woman, “How do you like it if I walked in a balaclava. This is England. You should not be wearing a scarf.” They were concerned about what would happen to the Muslim woman and so they waited. One of the white youths turned towards them and asked them why were they were watching them. “I told them, ‘Leave her alone.’”

The woman tried to tell the white youths not to attack the students but they didn’t listen.

The white youths assaulted Ahmed and Umar, and began beating them. Ahmed fell down and the gang continued to punch and kick him even after he was unconscious. They “jumped” on his head and kicked his body. He was picked up and thrown on to the ground. Umar thought he was dying. “The next thing I saw was my friend standing over me telling me to recite the shahadah (‘There is no god but God and Muhammad in His Messenger). I lost conscious again. When I gained my senses I found myself in an ambulance.” He said he could not hit them back as “there were too many of them.”

Ahmed said his face was throbbing and “I was covered in blood. At the time my memory of the incident was hazy.” He received a number of injuries, including a broken nose, head injuries and cuts and bruising to the body.

They were taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment. Ahmed was discharged from the hospital after 5 hours.

Ahmed said the police took a statement and also took his clothes for DNA test as some of the gang members spat at him.

Umar, who was in the first year studying mechanical engineering, told The Muslim News he managed to get up every time he was thrown on to the floor. He was therefore able to cover his head and prevent serous injury. He said he saw his colleague on the floor unconscious and thought he was dying. “So I began reciting the shahadah, Surah al Fatiha and Surah Ikhlas. His eyes were barely open.”

Both said they were not sorry that they had stopped and didn’t even think twice to help the Muslim woman. “They were unfair to her. She didn’t say anything to them. What they were doing to her didn’t make any sense,” Ahmed said. He said he was “upset” at the white boys behaviour. “I thought such kind of thing did not happen. Who’s to say what they would have done to her. It was scary,” related the teenager.

He added that he was “glad they attacked us and not her.”

A white woman who was passing by rang the police and an ambulance. The ambulance had to wait until the police arrived. Umar was told by the ambulance to go and inform the police where they were. “I had to walk to other side of the park – 600 to 700 yards to the police.”

Ahmed said the attack was “Islamophobic as they were talking about her scarf and also when they told me ‘Where is your Allah’ is to do with religion. How did they know we were Muslims? We could have been Sikhs for all they know.”

Umar said the attack was both Islamophobic and racist as they had also shouted “Pakis”. He was “very angry” and said he never experienced racism in East London where he was from. “It is very unfortunate at what happened as they didn’t know about Muslims fully.”

The father of Ahmed told The Muslim News that he couldn’t recognise his son’s face as “he was badly beaten.” They couldn’t X-Ray him because of the swelling and was told to return after the swelling had reduced, some five days later.

He said the police told him the CCTV was pointing “the other way” and so were not able to get the attack on camera.

“I was devastated and shocked and angry. It seems like the 1970s National Front are back again,” the father said. He echoed his son’s view that the attacks were Islamophobic.

A police spokeswoman said a 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and released on police bail pending further enquiries. However, Sergeant Laura Millward, from Hinckley Road local policing unit, said the incident was racist because the victims “are Asian and because of the comments made during the assault we are treating this as racially motivated.”

The police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward, but are particularly interested in speaking with the woman, who was wearing a hijab, who was being racially abused by the group just before the assault.

Editor’s Comments: Still there is a deafening silence from the secularists who are the self appointed leaders of Leicester’s Muslim community when they are always so quick to condemn the Muslims.

Why are the police not treating this crime as religiously motivated? Could it be because they know if it is proved to be so the Muslims of Leicester might wake up a little to the oppression that is put on them by both non-Police and Police kuffar?

Remember brothers, when you are abused or you see someone else abused you have every right under british law, and a duty under Allah’s law to defend the honour of Islam and if you are accidently killed then you are a martyr Inshallah.

From the Guardian Newspaper

Luke Harding – Reporter for the Guardian and Observer

The north Caucasus has exploded in violent revolt, making Moscow’s Muslim south a growing threat

In the past two years, the simmering insurgency in Russia’s north Caucasus has exploded into open revolt. Daily attacks against government security forces and bomb explosions have become a part of everyday life.

Across Ingushetia, Chechnya, Dagestan and Karabino-Balkaria, Islamist fighters are waging a violent struggle to overthrow their local and federal rulers. Increasingly, they are winning. Friday’s apparent bombing of an express train between Moscow and St Petersburg raises the spectre that this conflict in Russia’s troublesome Muslim south is again spilling over into Russia’s vulnerable European heart. A second deadly attack similar to Friday’s explosion would confirm that after a deceptive five-year pause, Chechen terrorism is defiantly back.

Last night Alexei Malashenko, Russia’s leading expert on the restive north Caucasus, cautioned it was too early to tell if Chechens were behind Friday’s blast, but conceded: “There could be links between the explosion and radical Islamic activists.”

He said that the insurgency in Russia’s volatile south was now spiralling out of control. “The situation is very bad. It seems to me that the east part of the North Caucasus is in a state of civil war. Every day somebody is killed. There is a lack of stability.”

According to Malashenko, the Islamist fighters have a long-term goal of creating an Islamic caliphate in the region. In the short-term, however, they are simply seeking to provoke a popular uprising against the widely detested federal government and its corrupt local representatives.

The Kremlin fought two brutal wars in Chechnya between 1994 and 1996, and 1999 and 2005. In recent years, the Russian government has boasted it has pacified the territories. The attacks once waged by suicidal Chechen commanders have ceased. There has been no repeat of Beslan, the school in North Ossetia infamously seized by Chechens in September 2004, in which more than 330 people, mostly children, died.

However, the rebels appear to have regrouped, their numbers swelled by zealous teenage recruits. This year has seen a series of attacks, including an assassination attempt on Ingushetia’s Kremlin-appointed president, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, and the devastating bombing of a police station.

Most ominously, in the spring, veteran Chechen guerrilla leader Doku Umarov said he was reviving the notorious Riyadus Salikhin group, a suicide battalion of “Chechen martyrs”. The Kremlin regularly says Umarov has been killed. The evidence suggests he is still alive.

Editor’s Comment: Although we might disagree with some of the tactics used by the brothers and sisters in Chechnya, we should not forget what they have been through and not judge them as we haven’t been through what they have been through.

250,000 Chechens have been murdered, many women and children raped as the Russians let loose their most brutal Cossack regiments upon the civilian population.

Women are attacked, tortured, raped and sodomised just for wearing Hijab, and men disappear every day, kidnapped and tortured before being killed for the crime of making their Fajr salaat in the Masjid.

To put these numbers into perspective, Chechnya had a population of 1.25 Million before the Russians brutally attacked them for daring to want Allah’s law – the Shariah.

That is 1 in 5 of the population, the equivalent 5th of the population in the UK would be 12 Million, the same as wiping London off the map.

We pray Allah gives aid to the brave youth in this region and grants them success in bringing Allah’s law to this land, ameen.

What should one say when slaughtering the udhiyah

Is there a specific du’aa’ that I can recite when slaughtering the udhiyah?.

Praise be to Allaah.

The Sunnah for one who wants to slaughter the udhiyah is to say when slaughtering it:

Bismillaah, wa Allaahu akbar, Allaahumma haadha minka wa laka, haadha ‘anni (or if it is being offered on behalf of someone else, haadha ‘an [fulaan]), Allaahumma taqabbal min [fulaan] wa aali [fulaan].

(In the name of Allaah, Allaah is most great. O Allaah, this is from You and to You. This is on my behalf (or if it is being offered on behalf of someone else, This is on behalf of [So and so]). O Allaah, accept (this sacrifice) from [So and so] and the family of [So and so]) – here he should mention his name instead of [fulaan] or [So and so].

What is obligatory here is to say Bismillaah; the rest is mustahabb but is not obligatory.

Al-Bukhaari (5565) and Muslim (1966) narrated that Anas said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) sacrificed two horned rams that were white speckled with black. He slaughtered them with his own hand, said Bismillaah and Allaahu akbar, and put his foot on their necks.

Muslim (1967) narrated from ‘Aa’ishah that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) ordered that a horned ram be brought to him so that he could sacrifice it. He said, “O ‘Aa’ishah, give me the knife.” Then he said, “Sharpen it on a stone.” So she did that, then he took it and took the ram, and he lay it down and prepared to slaughter it. He said, “In the name of Allaah, O Allaah accept (this sacrifice) from Muhammad and the family of Muhammad and the ummah of Muhammad,” then he sacrificed it.

Al-Tirmidhi (1521) narrated that Jaabir ibn ‘Abd-Allaah said: I was present with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) on the day of al-Adha at the prayer place. When he had finished his khutbah he came down from his minbar and a ram was brought which the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) slaughtered with his own hand. He said, “In the name of Allaah, Allaah is Most Great. This is on behalf of myself and on behalf of those of my ummah who have not offered a sacrifice.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.

In some reports the words “O Allaah, this is from You and to You” are added. See Irwa’ al-Ghaleel, 1138, 1152.

Allaahumma minka (O Allaah, from You) means this sacrifice is a gift and provision that has reached me from You. Laka (to You) means, it is sincerely for You alone.

See al-Sharh al-Mumti’, 7/492.

Description of Eid prayer

Praise be to Allaah.

The Eid prayer is one where the imam attends and leads the people in praying two rak’ahs. ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:

“The prayer of al-Fitr is two rak’ahs and the prayer of al-Adha is two rak’ahs, complete and not shortened, on the tongue of your Prophet, and the one who fabricates lies is doomed.” Narrated by al-Nasaa’i, 1420 and Ibn Khuzaymah. Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Nasaa’i.

It was narrated that Abu Sa’eed said: The Messenger of Allaah SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to come out on the day of al-Fitr and al-Adha to the prayer place, and the first thing he would do was to offer the prayer. Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 956

In the first rak’ah he should say Takbeerat al-ihraam (say “Allaahu akbar” to start the prayer), after which he should say six or seven more takbeers, because of the hadeeth of ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her), “The takbeer of al-Fitr and al-Adha is seven takbeers in the first rak’ah and five takbeers in the second, apart from the takbeer of rukoo’.” Narrated by Abu Dawood and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Irwa’ al-Ghaleel, 639.

Then he should recite al-Faatihah, and recite Soorat Qaf in the first rak’ah. In the second rak’ah he should stand up saying takbeer, and when he has stood up completely he should say takbeer five times, and recite Soorat al-Faatihah then Soorat al-Qamr. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to recite these two soorahs during the two Eids. Or if he wishes he can recite Soorat al-A’la in the first rak’ah and Soorat al-Ghaashiyah in the second, because it was narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to recite al-A’la and al-Ghaashiyah in the Eid prayer.

The imam should revive the Sunnah be reciting these soorahs so that the Muslims will become familiar with the Sunnah.

After the prayer, the imam should address the people. Part of the khutbah should be addressed specifically to the women, telling them of the things that they should do and warning them against the things that they should avoid, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to do.
The prayer comes before the khutbah

One of the rulings of Eid is that the prayer comes before the khutbah, because of the hadeeth of Jaabir ibn ‘Abd-Allaah who said, The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came out on the day of al-Fitr and started with the prayer before the khutbah. Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 958; Muslim, 885.

Another indication that the khutbah comes after the prayer is the hadeeth of Abu Sa’eed (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to come out to the prayer place on the day of al-Fitr and al-Adha, and the first thing he would start with was the prayer, then he would go and stand facing the people, while the people were sitting in their rows, and he would preach to them and advise them and command them. If he wanted to send out a military expedition he would do so and if he wanted to tell the people to do something he would do so, then he would leave.

Abu Sa’eed said: The people continued to do that until I went out with Marwaan – who was the governor of Madeenah – on Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr, and when we came to the prayer-place, there was a minbar that had been built by Katheer ibn al-Salt. When Marwaan wanted to ascend it before he prayed, I grabbed his garment and he pushed me away and climbed up and delivered the khutbah before the prayer. I said, “You have changed it by Allaah.”

He said, “O Abu Sa’eed, what you knew has gone.”

I said, “What I know, by Allaah, is better than what I do not know.”

He said, “The people will not sit and listen to us after the prayer, so we did it before the prayer.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 956.

Etiquette of Eid What are the Sunnahs and etiquettes that we should act in accordance with on the da

Etiquette of Eid

What are the Sunnahs and etiquettes that we should act in accordance with on the day of Eid

Praise be to Allaah.

The Sunnahs that the Muslim should observe on the day of Eid are as follows:

1 – Doing ghusl before going out to the prayer.

It was narrated in a saheeh hadeeth in al-Muwatta’ and elsewhere that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar used to do ghusl on the day of al-Fitr before going out to the prayer-place in the morning. Al-Muwatta’ 428.

Al- Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said that the Muslims were unanimously agreed that it is mustahabb to do ghusl for Eid prayer.

The reason why it is mustahabb is the same reason as that for doing ghusl before Jumu’ah and other public gatherings. Rather on Eid the reason is even stronger.

2 – Eating before going out to pray on Eid al-Fitr and after the prayer on Eid al-Adha:

Part of the etiquette is not to go out to pray on Eid al-Fitr until one has eaten some dates, because of the hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari from Anas ibn Maalik, who said that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used not to go out on the morning of Eid al-Fitr until he had eaten some dates… of which he would eat an odd number. Al-Bukhaari, 953.

It is mustahabb to eat before going out to emphasize the fact that it is forbidden to fast on that day and to demonstrate that the fast has ended.

Ibn Hajar (may Allaah have mercy on him) suggested that the reason for that was so as to ward off the possibility of adding to the fast, and to hasten to obey the command of Allaah. Al-Fath, 2/446

Whoever does not have any dates may break his fast with anything that is permissible.

But on Eid al-Adha it is mustahabb not to eat anything until one comes back from the prayer, so he should eat from the udhiyah if he has offered a sacrifice. If he is not going to offer a sacrifice there is nothing wrong with eating before the prayer.

3 – Takbeer on the day of Eid

This is one of the greatest Sunnahs on the day of Eid because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“(He wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must magnify Allaah [i.e. to say Takbeer (Allaahu Akbar: Allaah is the Most Great)] for having guided you so that you may be grateful to Him”

[al-Baqarah 2:185]

It was narrated that al-Waleed ibn Muslim said: I asked al-Awzaa’i and Maalik ibn Anas about saying Takbeer out loud on the two Eids. They said, Yes, ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar used to say it out loud on the day of al-Fitr until the imam came out (to lead the prayers).

It was narrated in a saheeh report that ‘Abd al-Rahmaan al-Sulami said, “They emphasized it more on the day of al-Fitr than the day of al-Adha.”. Wakee’ said, this refers to the takbeer. See Irwa’ al-Ghaleel, 3/122/

Al-Daaraqutni and others narrated that on the morning of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, Ibn ‘Umar would strive hard in reciting takbeer until he came to the prayer place, then he would recite takbeer until the imam came out.

Ibn Abi Shaybah narrated with a saheeh isnaad that al-Zuhri said: The people used to recite Takbeer on Eid when they came out of their houses until they came to the prayer place, and until the imam came out. When the imam came out they fell silent, and when he said takbeer they said takbeer. See Irwa’ al-Ghaleel, 1/121

Saying takbeer when coming out of one’s house to the prayer place and until the imam came out was something that was well known among the salaf (early generations). This has been narrated by a number of scholars such as Ibn Abi Shaybah, ‘Abd a l-Razzaaq and al-Firyaabi in Ahkaam al-Eidayn from a group of the salaf. For example, Naafi’ ibn Jubayr used to recite takbeer and was astonished that the people did not do so, and he said, “Why do you not recite takbeer?”

Ibn Shihaab al-Zuhri (may Allaah have mercy on him) used to say, “The people used to recite takbeer from the time they came out of their houses until the imam came in.”

The time for takbeer on Eid al-Fitr starts from the night before Eid until the imam enters to lead the Eid prayer.

In the case of Eid al-Adha, the takbeer begins on the first day of Dhu’l-Hijjah and lasts until sunset on the last of the days of tashreeq.

Description of the takbeer:

It was narrated in the Musannaf of Ibn Abi Shaybah with a saheeh isnaad from Ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) that he used to recite takbeer during the days of tashreeq:

Allaahu akbar, Allaahu akbar, laa ilaaha ill-Allaah, wa Allaahu akbar, Allaah akbar, wa Lillaah il-hamd (Allaah is Most Great, Allaah is most Great, there is no god but Allaah, Allaah is Most great, Allaah is most great, and to Allaah be praise).

It was also narrated elsewhere by Ibn Abi Shaybah with the same isnaad, but with the phrase “Allaahu akbar” repeated three times.

Al-Mahaamili narrated with a saheeh isnaad also from Ibn Mas’ood:

“Allaahu akbaru kabeera, Allaahu akbaru kabeera, Allaahu akbar wa ajallu, Allaahu akbar wa Lillaah il-hamd (Allaah is Most Great indeed, Allaah is Most Great indeed, Allaah is most Great and Glorified, Allaah is Most Great and to Allaah be praise).” See al-Irwa’, 3/126.

4 – Offering congratulations

The etiquette of Eid also includes the congratulations and good wishes exchanged by people, no matter what the wording, such as saying to one another Taqabbala Allaah minna wa minkum (May Allaah accept (good deeds) from us and from you” or “Eid mubaarak” and other permissible expressions of congratulations.

It was narrated that Jubayr ibn Nufayr said: When the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) met one another on the day of Eid, they would say to one another, “May Allaah accept (good deeds) from us and from you.” Ibn Hajar said, its isnaad is hasan. Al-Fath, 2/446.

Offering congratulations was something that was well known among the Sahaabah, and scholars such as Imam Ahmad and others allowed it. There is evidence which suggests that it is prescribed to offer congratulations and good wishes on special occasions, and that the Sahaabah congratulated one another when good things happened, such as when Allaah accepted the repentance of a man, they went and congratulated him for that, and so on.

Undoubtedly these congratulations are among the noble characteristics among the Muslims.

The least that may be said concerning the subject of congratulations is that you should return the greetings of those who congratulate you on Eid, and keep quiet if others keep quiet, as Imam Ahmad (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: If anyone congratulates you, then respond, otherwise do not initiate it.

5 – Adorning oneself on the occasion of Eid.

It was narrated that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) said that ‘Umar took a brocade cloak that was for sale in the market and brought it to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and said, “O Messenger of Allaah, buy this and adorn yourself with it for Eid and for receiving the delegations.” The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to him, “Rather this is the dress of one who has no share (of piety or of reward in the Hereafter)…” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 948.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) agreed with ‘Umar on the idea of adorning oneself for Eid, but he denounced him for choosing this cloak because it was made of silk.

It was narrated that Jaabir (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) had a cloak which he would wear on the two Eids and on Fridays. Saheeh Ibn Khuzaymah, 1756,

Al-Bayhaqi narrated with a saheeh isnaad that Ibn ‘Umar used to wear his best clothes on Eid.

So a man should wear the best clothes that he has when going out for Eid.

With regard to women, they should avoid adorning themselves when they go out for Eid, because they are forbidden to show off their adornments to non-mahram men. It is also haraam for a woman who wants to go out to put on perfume or to expose men to temptation, because they are only going out for the purpose of worship.

6 – Going to the prayer by one route and returning by another.

It was narrated that Jaabir ibn ‘Abd-Allaah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: On the day of Eid, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to vary his route. Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 986.

It was said that the reason for that was so that the two routes would testify for him on the Day of Resurrection, for the earth will speak on the Day of Resurrection and say what was done on it, both good and bad.

And it was said that it was in order to manifest the symbols of Islam on both routes, or to manifest the remembrance of Allaah (dhikr), or to annoy the hypocrites and Jews, and to scare them with the large number of people who were with him. And it was said that it was in order to attend to the people’s needs, to answer their questions, teach them, set an example and give charity to the needy, or to visit his relatives and uphold the ties of kinship.

And Allaah knows best.

When the british left in 1947, they left the same secular authority, only replaced with different skin complexion and names. The remnants is what we have today, with the likes of such a corrupt government. Where the president is nicknamed mr 10 %. This is not Islam!

A Prison guard asked Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal a question:

“O Abu ‘Abdillah! The hadith that is narrated regarding the oppressors and those that aid them – is it authentic?”

He said: “Yes.”

The prison guard then said: “So, I am considered to be an aide of the oppressors?”

Imam Ahmad replied: “No. The aides of the oppressors are those that comb your hair, and wash your clothes, and prepare your meals, and buy and sell from you. As for you, then you are one of the oppressors themselves.”

From Al Jazeera Online

Ethnic Ogaden fighters in Ethiopia have launched an offensive in the southeastern Somali region and claim to have recaptured seven towns from government forces.

In a statement released early on Saturday, the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) said its attacks were launched across a broad front and had begun on November 10.

“The operation involved thousands of ONLF troops and resulted in two days of heavy fighting. A significant number of Ethiopian troops have been killed and their military hardware captured or destroyed,” it said.

The ONLF said its forces entered the towns of Obolka, Hamaro, Higlaaley, Yucub, Galadiid, Boodhaano and Gunogabo – where government forces had deployed troops and positioned military hardware.

“ONLF forces were warmly welcomed by the population in these areas and are administering medical care to those civilians killed by retreating Ethiopian occupation forces,” the statement claimed.

The Ethiopian government has not responded to the statement.

Formed in 1984, the ONLF is fighting for the independence of ethnic Somalis in Ethiopia’s oil-rich Ogaden region – which they say has been marginalised by the government in Addis Ababa.

The Ethiopian military launched a counter-offensive against ONLF rebels after they attacked a Chinese-run oil venture in Ogaden in April 2007, killing 74 people.

In April, Ethiopia said it had significantly weakened the the anti-government force, a claim ONLF rejects.

Comment from Leicester Islamic Standard’s Editor:

Most of you are by now stratching your heads and going Oga…where?

Ogaden! it is a region of Somalia or what was once Somali land before Somalia was invaded by Britain about a little over a century ago and it was carved up and given in little pieces to British Allies including this bit which went to Britains uncle Tom allies in Africa – Ethiopia.

The Somali Muslims in this region suffer terrible oppression, collective punishment including gang raping by Ethiopian soldiers but this is a forgotten war even amongst Muslims but the least we can do is remember these brothers and sisters in our Du’a and ask Allah to aid them and help them achieve victory over the Ethiopian Kuffar and their vile secular law.

The sooner Ash-Shabab are successful, the sooner they can help the rest of the Somali people free themselves from the oppression and kufr of man-made law and the Muslim children and women of Ogaden will be free from the risk of rape and murder.
