Dear Reader,

This being a first post I hope you will excuse my lack of blogging etiquette.

When is it ok to drop in on people having lunch, at an upmarket eatery, casually joining them, en mass, and then proceeding to eat their food? Confused? So was I. It’s hard not to feel that way, when a casual goodbye party turns to an uncomfortable “Hey! Haven’t seen u in a while, how’s kids? Business? …umm u gonna eat that?..”

Well… Not exactly like that but nevertheless, even if they do wholeheartedly invite u to their table during yam-cha (asking a waiter to add a few chairs) do u dare to take the last dumpling? Furthermore, how do u explain to the person that invited u out in the first place, the way u feel about that last freaking dumpling? I mean if it’s ok by them to join random people casually and rather uninvited, would they understand my dilemma?
Be it as it may, the restaurant (Lucky Chan) was brilliant. Food, atmosphere, service, the lot.

The Stories: Johns opens the book on a squadron of military helicopters searching for Brainiac and Luthor, who have both just escaped. Brainiac and Luthor are in cahoots and nothing good is going to come of this. Flash forward to Conner getting ready for Cassie to come over for supper. They each have issues to struggle through. The second story is about the Legion of Superheroes. Mekt Ranzz (Lightning Lord) will tell the Legion where all the supervillain safehouses are if Lightning Lad will talk to him in prison. Seems easy, right? Wrong!

What’s Good: Johns did some very solid character work on the Superboy story. Connor  is wound up, worrying about how he looks, and he’s hopelessly transparent, yet perfectly believable. I also really like the clever use of Conner’s obsessive little lists. What did Superman do? What did Luthor do? The amount of time he spends looking at those two columns and comparing himself to them show how worried he is about who he is. Johns also did really deft work on Cassie and Conner catching up. That year apart put a lot of space between them. This character work sounds like it would be dull, but it’s exactly the opposite because both characters are so likable with their desires so obvious.

Johns and Shoemaker pulled some more fine writing out of their hats for the Legion story. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to follow the Legion, so I don’t remember Garth being so spun up, but Johns sets up the characters so even a long-absent fan like me can understand everything. The human supremacy movement was an interesting touch (not original, but interesting), as were the words that Garth and Mekt shared. I didn’t see that surprise coming.

Manapul’s art was brilliantly page-slowing for me. I’d be done with the words, but reluctant to turn the page, because I wanted to keep admiring the art. The double splash page opening the book was awesome and I loved the realism combined with the rough, almost old-school pencil lines that Manapul left for strategic shading. Brainiac sitting in his control chair, wires sprouting from his head, Luthor standing in prison browns with smears of blood on his wrists… All memorable and awesome…Also Manapul’s and Buccellato’s work on Cassie and Conner under a pink, starry sky was just great.

What’s Not So Good: I had no complaints whatsoever about the Superboy story. However, I wasn’t wowed by Clayton Henry’s pencils on the Legion back-up story, nor was it easy on my suspension of disbelief to see super-powered prisoners manacled in their cells in costume.

Conclusion: This issue is worth buying just for the Superboy story. Little action on the outside, but lots of action on the inside. Buy this book.

MKMF is actually a music awards festival which will be held every year in Korea.MKMF stands for MNet KM Music Festival.(MNet is a huge media company in Korea.)It is also one of the largest awards festival for the Korea music industry.This year, MKMF ‘08 was held on 15th of November in Seoul Olympic Stadium.

As usual, fans of all popular korean pop artistes gets excited for this huge event.Artistes also look forward to this night because awards will be given out to deserving artistes who worked hard this year and also whom are loved by the kpop mass.Out of all the MKMF awards, there’s three awards which are the most significant.The three awards are called the ‘Daesang’ awards. ‘Daesang’ actually meant 大赏 in Mandarin and ‘Top Honour’ in English.

As mentioned above, the 3 Daesang awards are ‘Song Of The Year’, ‘Artist Of The Year’ and ‘Album Of The Year’.

(This year, the winner of ‘Song Of The Year’ is Wonder Girls with their latest hit ‘Nobody’.)

(The winner of ‘Artist of The Year’ is Big Bang, a unique hip hop group with a totally different style from the usual kpop artistes.)

(Lastly the winner of the last Daesang award, ‘Album Of The Year’, is TVXQ (Dong Bang Shin Ki/ 东方神起) who has been the most influential group in the Korean music world since their debut in 2003.)

I was deciding between Bob Dylan and the Wonder Girls for this week’s Style Icon column because:

(a) I cannot stop singing ‘nobody nobody but you! I want nobody nobody but you!’ in my head after watching this MTV… all because I wanted to check out exactly what the hell is playing in every Bangkok shop 2 weeks ago.

Don’t watch it unless you want to watch the MTV of the world’s most irritatingly catchy tune apart from Madonna’s ‘Hung Up’.

(b) I am having this vivid image of Bob Dylan’s male Medusa hair all week. It is this exact shade of soft brown, almost as though he has a soft spring sunlight spotlight above his head. Check out the alliteration.

But of course, Bob Dylan won because how can I appoint the Wonder Girls as Style Icon, right?

Natalie White (28), or who goes by ‘Pumashock’, who attracted more than 1.2 million views from netizens of her R&B parody of So Nyeo Shi Dae’s ‘Gee’, was on SBS Star King filming press conference on 4th March.

When asked ‘Do you know BoA who is currently advancing into the American market?’, Natalie said, “I know about BoA and Se7en debuting in America and I am very happy and excited for them. The key to succeed in America is constantly updated and it is the lead to the trend in the market. And BoA seemed to have studied the trend and riding on it well.”

“Korean pop and American pop is really different. BoA has presented style that is different of that from her Korean and Japanese activities, and I am really impressed with it. Probability of her succeeding is big.”

Natalie performed So Nyeo Shi Dae ‘Gee’ and WonderGirls ‘Nobody’ in fluent Korean on the spot that day. “I had wanted to come and visit Korea, I’m so excited about my first Korean interview.”

“Korean pop is so energetic I will automatically dance along to it. It is an amazing and strange feeling singing Korean songs when I am born in America. But my dream is to be able to enjoy the exchange and experience of all various cultures.”

Three fictional characters named Wonder Girl have appeared as superheroines in DC Comics. The original was a younger version of Wonder Woman. The second and third are protégés of Wonder Woman, and members of different incarnations of the Teen Titans.

Finish them already!

I collected the George Perez run of the Teen Titans back in the 80’s and thoroughly enjoyed it.  It introduced me to a lot of DC characters for the first time outside the big three and was probably my first understanding and exposure to the DC Universe (which was then clarified for myself even more so with Crisis On Infinite Earths). 

While I admit I didn’t jump on the newest incarnation from it’s outset, I ended up picking up one of the early Judd Winick collection trades which ended up being pretty decent.  So after reading at least two of the collections, I went ahead and started picking this up on a monthly basis.  At first, it was pretty exciting, with a roster including Superboy (Conner Kent), Cyborg, Wondergirl, Robin (Tim Drake), Beast Boy, Ravager, and eventually Kid Devil.

The stories and action were good, and the plotlines and interpersonal relationships between some of the characters (Superboy/Wondergirl, Ravager/Kid Devil, Beast Boy/Raven) was pretty dynamic, but I have to say the recent direction under head writer Geoff Johns in recent months along with the roster change just doesn’t feel epic enough to carry the ‘Titan’ moniker. 

Conner Kent (Superboy) is gone, as are some of the original Titans and Ravager as well, with recent additions of the new Blue Beetle, M’gann, and upcoming Static and possibly Kid Eternity.  It just feels that all the major arcs and flowing storylines under Winick’s direction have been substituted with disjointed filler material as of late, and nothing seems to gel right now.

Issue 61, with Kid Devil and Blue Beetle working together to take down a common threat just seemed forced to make the reader try and understand their ‘opposites’ dynamic, but still just seemed forced and unnatural.  The joking between Kid and Blue just fall flat and read very predictable and juvenile.

By the end of the issue we see Kid Devil unveil his new uniform and name, Red Devil and then there’s the official inclusion of Blue Beetle to the team.  The only characters that lend any weight to this book right now are Robin and Wondergirl and this clearly wasn’t their issue. 

I’m also very sad to say that it looks like both Wendy and Marvin (with Marvin’s recent death) have been written out of the book.  They lent a special ‘cloak & dagger’ aspect to the book as treated the fanboys to a nostalgic yet updated fresh take on these two, and their time was cut short before they were properly utilized.

Suffice to say, I think until the book settles back down with an established roster and spanning storylines and plot threads I may be shelving this book for a bit.  Too bad, because if you would have asked me what one of my favorite team books was a year ago, Teen Titan would have been near the top of my list….now I just don’t care to spend my $2.99 on a book that just seems to be trudging to nowhere.

Ca faisait longtemps que je n’avais pas mis ce blog à jour, mais vu que j’ai 2 bonnes heures de libre (temps de pose de la superbe coloration au henné que je suis en train de me faire tout en écoutant les Seo Taiji & boys^^) je m’y colle.

Tout d’abord je tiens à préciser qu’il ne s’agit en aucun cas d’un film de cul malgré le titre (on m’a déjà posé la question plusieurs fois) Il ne s’agit même pas d’un film hot, même si l’affiche vient surenchérir sur le coté sexy du film. Mais ce n’est pas ce qui m’a attiré donc tant mieux. La présence de la Wondergirl qui m’agace le plus (Ahn So Hee) et celle du sexy Kim Sung Soo (Yoo Min hyuk dans Full House) ne m’ont pas non plus fait flasher.

Ce qui m’a attiré c’est la phrase qui tient lieu de synopsis “Il y a trois choses qu’une femme ne doit jamais révéler : ses infidélités, ses rides et ce à quoi elle pense réellement.” Tout un programme n’est ce pas ?

Pourtant… Je suis resté sur ma faim ce film est incomplet il développe longuement la vie de la looseuse principale qui a la fin du film n’a pas avancé d’un pouce selon moi, à part bien sur sa coupe de cheveux je ne vois pas en quoi elle a changé à la fin c’est toujours une pro de la loose.
Par contre le rôle de la wondergirl aurait pu être beaucoup plus intéressant ainsi que celui de Lee Mi Suk qui joue sa mère, l’une découvre sa sexualité et l’autre se bat contre le temps qui passe après l’annonce de sa ménopause prématurée; il y a de la matière a développer quand même ! D’ailleurs la petite So Hee se débrouille très bien (elle m’agace toujours mais j’avoue qu’elle a assuré mieux que je ne l’aurais cru) malheureusement, elle n’a pas pu donner tout ce qu’elle avait (j’aurais voulu du drame et du pathos dans les moments de doute au lieu de cela c’est plat )
Le réalisateur a préféré se raccrocher au rôle d’ Ah Mi certainement plus facile à développer… En plus j’aime pas la tête de Kim Min Hee, elle est trop… fausse.
De plus l’affiche, comme le trailer, laisse entendre qu’il y a une ambiance très “fraternelle” avec beaucoup de connivence entre les trois femmes, ce qui aurait été parfait si ça avait été vrai. Mention spéciale pour le son du trailer “Hot Deugga” de 1Tym qui ne correspond pas à l’ambiance du film (même si j’aime trop ce son chanté par mes chouchous, “hot deugga deugga hoooot” c’était la belle époque Taebin me manque snif T_T  )

Ca n’en a pas l’air mais j’ai beaucoup aimé ce film ^^ Il manque de profondeur mais il reste très agréable a regarder , vu les thèmes abordés il aurait pu être très vulgaire ou très ennuyeux, loin de là le film conserve toujours une note d’humour et ne traîne pas en longueur. Comme vous avez du le comprendre j’ai beaucoup aimé les rôles “secondaires” sans eux le film coulait c’est certain. J’aime particulièrement le personnage froid et distant de Lee Mi Suk, elle se croit tellement forte, alors qu’en fait elle se révèle être la plus fragile des trois.

En gros : Film marrant et intéressant qui est resté inachevé. Et de la publicité mensongère inutile. Après tout ce film est bien malgré tout, pourquoi exagérer à ce point ? (ça me rappelle l’affiche de She’s On Duty tout ça)

En 1995, el siempre polémico John Byrne comenzó la que sería una larga etapa al frente de Wonder Woman. En su primera saga, “Segunda Génesis”, mostró cómo Darkseid se cargaba a media Isla Paraíso como venganza por la derrota que había sufrido a manos de Superman y Diana. Ésta se tomó un tiempo alejada de su patria y se afincó en una ciudad ficticia llamada Gateway City. Allí, comenzó a trabajar como asesora del museo arqueológico local mientras vivía aventuras puramente superheroicas. En España, vimos los primeros números de Byrne, entre ellos el número ciento cinco (enero de 1996) donde aparecía por primera vez una joven llamada Cassie (de Cassandra) que era hija de Helena Sandsmark, una compañera de trabajo de la protagonista.

Sería en Wonder Woman nº 111, ya inédito por estos lares, donde veríamos a Cassie como Wonder Girl, con un horrible uniforme, por primera vez. Para ayudar a Diana a vencer a un duplicado de Juicio Final, se hizo con las sandalias de Hermes y el guantelete de Atlas. No fue la única vez, ya que poco después participó en una batalla contra Decadencia. Así, en el número ciento trece pidió a Diana que la entrenara como su ayudante, y así sucedió. Cuando Byrne volvió a meter al personaje en temas mitológicos, Cassie se entrenó en Isla Paraíso con Donna Troy y como Artemis. Con el tiempo, la primera le dio su aprobación como “sustituta”.

En 1997, Cassie dejó de utilizar artilugios místicos y obtuvo sus propios poderes pidiéndoselos directamente al dios Zeus. Asombrado por su osadía, el Rey del Olimpo le concedió habilidades similares a las de Wonder Woman, si bien Cassie no posee un grado tan alto de invulnerabilidad.La muerte de Donna Troy en Día de graduación fue un duro golpe para Cassie, que ya llevaba unos cuantos en los últimos tiempos. Para empezar, su identidad secreta se había ido al traste tras un ataque de Silver Swan a su colegio. Además, la muerte de Hipólita y la frustración por la identidad de su padre hicieron que, poco a poco, la joven se fuera alejando de las creencias pacifistas de Wonder Woman. En contra de ésta, se unió a los Jóvenes Titanes de San Francisco en la serie que pronto veréis en España. Fue allí donde recibió un regalo muy especial.

Cassie obtuvo con esta serie un nuevo uniforme, pero hubo cambios más trascendentes. Sin comerlo ni beberlo, el dios Ares le entregó un lazo mágico que, a simple vista, era como el de Diana. Sin embargo, éste servía para atacar al enemigo, algo que era más acorde con la personalidad de Cassie. La joven no comprendía porque Ares, enemigo de Wonder Woman y de ella misma, le había hecho tal obsequio, e incluso llegó a pensar que se debía a que era su verdadero padre. De hecho, todos lo pensábamos hasta que, en Wonder Woman nº 217, Greg Rucka y Rags Morales nos han explicado que, en realidad, su padre es el mismísimo Zeus.

Wonder Girl sigue apareciendo regularmente en Jóvenes Titanes y su vida sigue tan complicada como siempre. Los líos sentimentales de cualquier chica de su edad le suponen un calvario importante teniendo en cuenta que su novio es Superboy y desaparece cada dos por tres por una razón u otra. Sin embargo, su romance sigue adelante a pesar de todo.
