Here’s a card I submitted to Paper Crafts for their sketch challenge submission call. It’s a reject….lol! But I love it just the same! I saw Ashley Newell use this Hambly Screen Print Transparency HERE and had to have my own in yellow Also, here’s a tip, the basic grey chipboard alpha stickers were the wrong shade of brown for this card, so I went over them with my copic markers! Easy peasy! I also layered the transparency with some vellum, so that it didn’t blend in with the woodgrain!

I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!!! I’m still working on that wreath! I’ll post pics of it when I’m finished!

If you have been stamping for any amount of time you remember the tedious process of using many different stamps and masks to create scenes. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fun, but one mistake at the end could ruin an hour work. Now that we have digital stamps we can build scenes in minutes and save them for future use. Here are a few examples using the Funky Forest digital stamp set from Lindsay’s Stamp Stuff:

This week I used stamps from the Funky Forest set to make scenes. Learn how below.

For this excercise you want to use the PNG files that come with the set (you get both PNG and JPG files in all the LSS sets) and you will need a graphic software that allows you to work in layers. I am using PAint Shop Pro but Photoshop and many other brands of software will work too.

The moose, bubble and birds are all separate stamps. Just resize and piece the scene together, easy peasy!

In this example I opened a new document and copied and pasted the moose in it. I opened the Primitive Bird stamp and used the “Magnetic Lasso” tool to draw a circle around the bird and copied that portion only and pasted it as a new layer in the new document with the moose. I resized the bird using the pick tool and moved him up to the moose’s antlers. I opened the thought bubble and copied and pasted into the document above the moose. Now if you want to resize the whole scene you will need to flatten it, You can save this as a new png file simply by hitting the save as button and naming it something like” moosemontage.png”

Now let’s move on to something a bit trickier. Here we make a scene with overlapping images (I used this weeks sketch over at 2 sketches 4 you as my inspiration):

Stamps: Lindsay's stamp Stuff, PP: American Crafts (green & blue) Woodgrain (LSS freebie, download below;)

Follow along with the step by step photos and you can make this in minutes using the “pick” and “eraser” tools.

<img class="size-full wp-image-2344" title="scenetut_1" src="http://thefrugalcrafter.wordpress.com/files/2009/10/scenetut_1.jpg" alt="step 1.
A friend took this photo of me holding my sister’s baby last week when he was just hours old. Cute!

I wanted a funky look so I used my new Wood Grain Background stamp and printed it on an ink-jet transparency (make sure you print on the rough side!) and I hand wrote my journaling on my Library Card digital stamp for a funky look. I adhered the transparency to my layout with red acrylic paint, I also used the red paint on assorted foam stamps to stamp the word “hip”. I cut the shaped background paper with my cricut and SCAL software.

When we last met, for the Ugly Door series, I applied the second layer of the woodgraining process,

When we last met, for the Ugly Door series, I applied the second layer of the woodgraining process, to my exterior front door - a glaze that got flogged.

A few days have passed, it actually was too hot for my liking, to be working on a front exterior door.

Today was perfect -

Layer 3

- A mix of Faux Effects Stain and Seal Antique Cherry, Faux Effects Stain and Seal Antique Mahogany, and Faux Effects Aquacreme. Brushed it on, then added in, for dimension, some Faux Effects Stain and Seal Van Dyke Brown and Wood Gel Mahogany , and Faux Effects Aquacreme.

-Used some wood graining brushes to try to make the steel doors look like wood, then badgered -

Obviously, the door isn’t done. I finished the sidelights, then had to run my daughter to training. by time I got back home and finished the main door, it was too dark to photo. Notice the bottom part of the door? It has some splotchy’s from the kickplate being on the door. The stain/glaze dried on several areas diffferently. Maybe it wasn’t cleaned well enough ? I plan on putting the kickplate back on - but want to change it from ratty old brass to a rubbed bronze (the advantages of owning a bunch of finishing colors) – plan on painting the door handle as well.

Tomorrow I’ll topcoat.

I don’t know what to say. It’s like someone dug The Step up from his grave and dismembered his body. The pain and agony are too much for me to bear. I must live on knowing that The Step will never rest in peace. Stories about The Step have come from all over the city and it seems that he had almost as many enemies as he had friends. We may never know who the step really was, but we will always know what he was; he was a step, but not just any step, he was THE Step.

Somehow, someway, The Step will have his revenge.

Wednesday night was my monthly card club and the first orders with the new catalog. It’s a fun

Wednesday night was my monthly card club and the first orders with the new catalog. It’s a fun group of ladies who enjoy stamping and chatting. They made two cards.

The first uses the Animal Stories and Woodgrain background sets. I love this giraffe, I think this card would be a great birthday or new baby card

The second uses the damask stamp from the Friends 24-7 stamp set. The sentiment was embossed using the new Rich Razzelberry classic ink pad using a new trick I learned. To emboss with regular stamp ink, 1st stamp on a versamark pad, then stamp on your ink pad, add embossing powder, and heat to emboss. I was pretty excited to see how well this worked as it now gives me many more options for embossing! I was inspired by this card by Jill Hilliard to use the damask stamp.

I also showed a couple of other card options.

Bright Flowers

Owl Get Well. This is the stamp set I thought of when I first saw the woodgrain background. So fun and funky, it’s a new favorite!

Normally, I’m not a huge fan of woodgrain wallcoverings. For some reason, the images from Stark Wallcoverings made me take a second look at this handpainted paper. (Maybe it was also the cute mix of colors.) Also, like anything with such a specific look, I think I like it best not covering an entire wall. The wainscot adds elegance and gives the eye a break from the woodgrain.

Enjoy!

These little snapshots are nothing exciting, but the walk reminded me to not take for granted the interesting and beautiful things that are all around us.
