Ogles and goggles, life in a new dimension.
Early signs are that director James Cameron’s film is winning over audiences to a format that was considered gimmicky until Hollywood studios saw its potential in the fight against home cinema and piracy.

The head of 20th Century Fox in Australia, Marc Wooldridge, expects Avatar to be the first Hollywood blockbuster to earn more from 3D sessions than traditional 2D in this country.
“For a lot of people, it will be their first digital 3D film,” he said, noting that most previous releases have been animations, family movies and concert films.

Avatar took an impressive $2.5 million on its opening day – 66 per cent from 3D – and is expected to become one of the year’s biggest hits.

A late surge in cinemas switching from 35mm to digital projection boosted its takings in the revived format.

When Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs opened in July, 150 of the country’s 2000-odd screens could show 3D. Now it is 230.

“We’ve geared our circuit towards the opening of this film,” said David Seargeant, the managing director of Amalgamated Holdings Ltd, which owns the Greater Union chain. “We think 3D will be huge.”

Mr Seargeant said the chain now had 25 per cent of its 450 screens in the format. Its advance ticket sales for Avatar were running 10 to 1 in favour of the extra dimension.

The head of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Australia, Alan Finney, was surprised by the interest in 3D when the animated film Up opened in September. More than 40 per cent of its box office of $28 million came from the format.

While he is yet to see Avatar, Mr Finney believes the immersive experience will justify the extra $2 to $3 that cinemas are charging for sessions. “It’s not just a gimmick,” he said.

The head of the Independent Cinemas Association, Mark Sarfaty, said there had been a “mad rush” to install 3D systems – at a cost of $130,000 to $150,000 – before Avatar opened. “This is a huge advance,” he said of its immersive 3D. “What we’re after as an audience is something that’s close to real life. … We’ve been waiting for something that will take the image off that flat screen and digital 3D is it.”

The extreme tough look of the AWQ100 is also caused by the cool designed wristband with a furrowed texture, inspired by high-tech materials.

Features include a world time, tide graph, multi alarm, water resistant, 1/100 second stopwatch and more packed into a practical resin case.

Comes neatly presented in a CASIO retail box.
Features:
- EL Backlight
An electro-luminescent panel causes the entire face
to glow for easy reading. Includes an After-Glow
feature that keeps the EL backlight turned on for a
few seconds after the light button is released.

- Neobrite
A luminous coating provides long-term illumination in
the dark after only a short exposure to light.

- Moon Age Display
Moon age and phase are shown on the display based on
your current latitude and longitude.

- Tide Graph Display
Tidal movements are displayed graphically based on
your current latitude and longitude, and the
lunitidal interval.

- Second time zone
A second location time can be set and called up.
Ideal if you frequently make overseas calls.

- Stopwatch function (1/100 – 24HR)
Accurate measurement of elapsed time with the touch
of a button. The fraction indicates the unit of
measurement, while the time figure indicates the
maximum time
measurement.

- Timer – 1/1 min. – 24 hours (with automatic repeat)
For fans of precision: the countdown timers help you
to remember specific or recurring events by giving
off an audible signal at a preset time. They then
count back automatically from the preset time. The
time can be set to the nearest minute and up to 24
hours in advance. Ideal for people who need to take
medicines every day or those who do interval
training.

- 3 Multi Alarm, Hourly Time Signal
Multi Alarm lets you set a daily alarm (time setting
only), or an alarm for a specific time on a specific
day (month, day, and time setting). The value
indicates how many multi-alarms are available. The
hourly time signal causes the watch to beep every
hour on the hour.

- Snooze Feature
Each time you stop the alarm, it sounds again after a
few minutes.

- 3 Years – 1 Battery
One battery will supply your watch with the power it
needs for about 3 years.

- Full Auto Calendar
Allowances are made automatically for months of
different lengths, in case date corrections for leap
years are required.

- 12/24-hour Timekeeping
Times can be displayed in either a 12-hour or 24-hour
format.

- Spherical Glass
The surface of the glass is rounded.

- Stainless steel resin case.

- Resin Band.

- Water resistance classification (20 bar / 200m)
Perfect for free diving without scuba gear: the watch
is water resistant to 20 bar / 200 metres. The metres
value does not relate to a diving depth but to the
air pressure used in the course of the water
resistance test. (ISO 2281)

- Accuracy
+/- 30 seconds per month.

- Approximate Dimensions: 48 x 46 x 14mm (H x W x D)
- Instruction Guide.

- 2 Years Manufacturers Guarantee.

processed directly with Casio.

As the title states, this is blogging revisited.

I have long awaited for this to come to life, and it has!

See, before, I was unable to post to WordPress. After switching to my mac last year, wordPress was somewhat inaccessible to that of a ScreenReader. I am namely speaking of VoiceOver for Apple’s computer line known as macs. VoiceOver would interact with most of the page, but when it came to noticing the edit box for blogging content, it was just not happening.

Today, that is all fixed! Please, those who work at WordPress, pay attention to accessibility in all accounts. Whether it be for Linux, windows, or Mac, please keep accessibility in mind. Accessibility for that of screen readers is needed greatly and doesn’t leave those who wish to use your sites, and associated applications out in the cold.

I am really happy that wordPres works with voiceOver, and can finally venture forth with my blog.

to me, wordPress seemed more interesting to me then most blogging sites. I just like the intuitive attmosphere it provides.

In general, I will now be able to keep surfing WordPress.

Update on Life

I am currently job seeking, and have been for quite some time. I have landed some interviews here and there, but they have resulted in nothing so far. With the new year upon us, I am hoping that will change. For now though, I am finishing up Lost Odyssey.

There are many moments in that game that I enjoyed, ranging from cinimatic scenes, dialog scenes, to battle sequences. Overall, it felt like a mature final Fantasy in some respects. I am looking forward to the end.

Other then that, I am currently not up to much.

Well, take care world.

Heh. Stats are amusing to me. I love relatively useless information, and I love that they’re built in to WordPress. I don’t even have to do anything. They’re just… there.

First off, thanks to all the readers, posters, and all 3 or 4 people brave enough to comment here on the blog. I really dig comments.

You can see over the weeks, the views have been up & down each day, generally according to whatever was posted that day… but steadily over the weeks, the number of views has climbed. (That last drop is because it’s meed-week, I believe…)

Apparently, the goofy emails go over better than the other stuff. I’ll have to try some more of that… but this is really my only outlet for anything, so it may stay a mixed bag for a while.

Not only are the graphs funny to look at, but I can tell what people have been reading…

Apparently the shortcodes are still a problem with Sprint. Wonder why this isn’t a news story yet? Others are wondering why they can’t get Yeungling Lager Sauce any more. Me too. People are still inquisitive about Quiznos, Kmart, Wendy’s, and apparently a naked Asian Mrs. Claus. I hope any of you that landed here randomly were amused, apologies for the lack of naked Asian Santa’s wife.

This is what you’ve been reading recently…

So, the Data vs. C-3PO thing was read (or at least clicked on) a lot… No real interest, or just nothing to say about it? Subway is still apparently amusing. Still haven’t heard anything further from Quiznos once I let them know that I had a blog, and the allergy amigos must not find alliteration amusing.

With the crunch of the holidays quickly approaching it feels as though time has sped up and the usual 24-hour daily allotment isn’t quite enough. I find myself stealing from precious sleep time in order to pack in all the sights and sounds of the season — from visiting with friends and family, working, playing, shopping, wrapping to anything else that pops up on the holiday calendar.

Is it any wonder that stress levels hit an all time high during the holidays? Instead of facing the New Year with energy, focus and excitement of things to come, we sort of limp into January ravaged from our overbooked calendars, overstuffed bellies and one too many holiday spirits.

This year I plan on being proactive about protecting my sanity and increasing my joy by injecting some peace and harmony into my holidays at the front end. How can I say this with such confidence you wonder? Because I’ve discovered the delightful and charming Eden Chiropractic and Wellness Center — my lumbar support system!

A visit to Eden will set you on the right path, from the healing hands of Jerry Godin, RMT, a master of massage to the total alignment of your spine by the skillful Dr. Jaclyn Foster. I promise you’ll leave Eden totally well adjusted and with an overall feeling of peace and goodwill toward mankind.

Eden is located at 19027 Leslie Street, suite 200, Sharon, ON (South of Vince’s Market) – or call for an appointment: 905-478-1100.

Some of you have come to this site by way of the web site www.sunbearpress.com for ordering the book

Some of you have come to this site by way of the web site www.sunbearpress.com for ordering the book “Buffalo, Home of the Braves”. You’ve likely noticed how out of kilter the site presently appears, and I’d like to explain.

The site www.sunbearpress.com is hosted and its template supported by technology from Homestead.com. Homestead offers small businesses the ability to: “Build a website in minutes with our award-winning website hosting solution and website design software”.

To be fair, I have been a Homestead customer going on three years and have until recently felt positive about their ability to give a novice like me the opportunity create a business web site and have the ability to change content at the drop of a hat. Overall, their customer service was available and quite knowledgeable.

Awhile back I had minor problems integrating a merchant service account into the existing Sun Bear site so I could accept credit cards. I felt comfort in finding someone stateside (live not an online instant message chat) that could lead me to a solution.

With this as background I felt confident last fall paying Homestead a decent amount of money for a redesign of the site. That’s when things started to go sideways.

After Homestead recreated the theme and style of the template, I was no longer able to make simple changes that I had made prior to the redesign. The Sun Bear site serves as a portal to offer a variety of ways to make books available to inquiring customers. Purchases can in theory be made online, by phone, through seven different independent Buffalo bookstores, Amazon, and eBay.

For eBay, the link to the eBay listing needs to be updated periodically as the auction for an item expires. It was explained to me several weeks ago by a Homestead rep that guided me through the process, that even with the new design and limitations the hyperlink could be changed.

Last week we had to relist the book on eBay after earlier copies sold out. I took the previous advice and made the recommended change, which included a backup procedure. The change disrupted some code that resulted in the train wreck of a web site, that is far from appealing. I’ve had to now wait through the weekend, during the peak of holiday sales until Monday when a Homestead web designer can put things back to where they were. I’m afraid to calculate the number of lost sales and am quite peeved at Homestead for two reasons.

1. The customer service reps from Homestead have been stellar, but the managers I spoke with (or didn’t speak with because they didn’t call back) were complacent and downright apathetic.

2. It’s frustrating to spend $599 for a redesign of a site that I cannot place a simple hyperlink into. If I had known of the editing limitations of the redesigned site I would have saved my money and stuck with a plainer looking (but editable) site.

I’ll follow up with an update tomorrow (Monday), but for now I’m no longer recommending Homestead.com to anyone. In the meantime please realize that aesthetics aside, one can with some patience navigate the site and place an order. Oh and here’s that hyperlink to the eBay listing. Thank you Word Press for making that part easy.

Although WordPress and WordPress MU share somewhere around 95% of the same code, there are many more differences between the two than just multi-blog support. Here’s a thorough analysis:

WordPress

WordPress MU

Supports one blog with multiple bloggers.

Supports multiple blogs and multiple bloggers. Bloggers can write for multiple blogs.

Famous for its “5 minute install.”

Setup is more involved.

No advanced hosting requirements.

Your host needs to support wildcard DNS to use the subdomains feature.

Instant installation (through Fantastico, etc.) supported by many webhosts.

FTP time!

Each user is assigned a role level (subscriber, contributor, author, editor, administrator).

In addition to the standard WordPress roles, you can also specify “site admins” who can add/edit/delete all blogs and users.

WordPress receives updates first.

MU users must wait for WordPress updates to be applied to WordPress MU.

Administrators can edit themes, plugins, and code files from within WordPress.

The Theme Editor, Plugin Editor, and Manage Files sections are all disabled for security reasons.

Plugins can be enabled/disabled by the blog administrator.

The site admin can opt to have plugins disabled altogether (the default setting), or allow blog administrators to enable/disable plugins that have been uploaded.

Plugins can also be uploaded to a special “mu-plugins” folder, where they will be executed automatically on all blogs. (Some plugins won’t function property when run this way, however.)

If you have multiple blogs running standard WordPress, you’d need to upload plugin updates to each one.

Plugins for all WordPress MU blogs are stored in one place. Update once, and it takes effect on all the site’s blogs.

If you have multiple blogs running standard WordPress, you’d need to login to each one separately to access the administration.

You can switch between blog admins using a simple drop-down menu.

Allows you to use most HTML in your posts, but strips out PHP.

In addition to removing PHP, WordPress MU is more strict in regards to what post HTML it accepts. For example, it will strip out class/ID attributes, inline styles, <span> tags, etc.

WordPress allows posting via email.

WordPress MU lacks this feature.

WordPress lets you customize its list of update services.

WordPress MU doesn’t let you specify update services.

Are there any other differences between WordPress and MU that I missed? Let me know in the comments!

British shoppers are expected to spend £300m online today, amid predictions that so-called “Cyber Monday” will be the busiest 24 hours in the history of internet shopping.

Office workers are tipped to lead the surge as consumers buy gifts online now to ensure they will be delivered in time for Christmas.

Analysts are predicting that shoppers will loosen their purse strings after a year of recession frugality, with Visa one of several firms preparing for a record day of internet trading.

In recent years the first Monday in December, which this year falls on the 7th, has become the busiest day for online shopping as consumers scout for the cheapest deals at work after spending the weekend browsing high streets.

But Cyber Monday is expected to fall earlier this year as many workers receive their last pay cheque before Christmas today.

Visa predicts that £175 million will be spent by their cardholders, with at least £300 million spent in total during the day on the internet.

Richard Chapple, said: “Mondays are the busiest day online, and as we approach December people become conscious that Christmas is only around the corner.

“This sees more people than usual logging on, and with this weekend also being the last payday before Christmas for many, they will make the most of having money in the bank to get presents, especially after a tough year.”

Tim Danaher, editor of Retail Week, said: “People appear to be shopping earlier than they did last year, and spreading their spending.”

John Lewis sales figures released yesterday indicated that consumers were disregarding the recession and buying Christmas presents in force.

The department store’s sales were up 22 per cent last week compared with the same week a year ago, while the retailer’s online business recorded its biggest ever seven days of trading.

The figures, released on Sunday afternoon, took analysts by surprise with some calling them “astonishingly good” and proof that consumers were “loosening the purse strings” ahead of Christmas.

On Saturday, December 5, 2009 I plan on attending Bradford’s Celebrate Christmas event for a much needed infusion of the holiday spirit. There’s a tree lighting ceremony, story time with Jolly Old Saint Nick himself followed by hot chocolate served up by Bradford’s volunteer firefighters. And if that’s not enough to have you decking the halls there’s also a public skate and Christmas Carols.

So jingle all the way to the Bradford & District Community Centre Auditorium (125 Simcoe Road) and greet, drink and be merry!

Aloha Allergy Afflicted Amigos,

Please see my experience with Subway’s lack of concern for allergens and cross-contamination highlighted below, surrounded by their ensuing lack of customer service/respect. Their final unapologetic apology can be viewed on my blog.

I find their lack of concern quite disturbing. What can be done to make companies like this more aware of these issues that can be deadly for a certain percent of the population?

While shellfish is surely simple to sidestep, what about my peeps that are petrified by peanuts, terrans that are terrified by tree-nuts, friends that are fearful of fish, my mates that are mired by milk, my sidekicks that are scared of soy, or my well-wishers that are weary of wheat?

Thank you in advance for your time, and I hope you have a safe & happy Thanksgiving holiday!

So, I fired off two more emails… One to Subway, and one to my new friend Mr. Jones at Quiznos. No response from Mr. Jones yet, but we do have one from Subway. I’ll share it all below!

OK, so email one, to Subway:

Hello Mr. Bridenbaker,

It’s been over a week since your email to me saying that Ms. Gomez would address my concerns and I’ve yet to see any sort of response. I still haven’t had a reply to my initial message to Ms. Seely, or from anyone on your team. I’m disappointed in the lack of comment overall, my first message which was sent on Oct. 28th has still gone unanswered.

I now understand why the employees in your stores have an “I don’t care” attitude. It trickles down from the top, and certainly must be passed on in franchise owners, hiring, & training.

I’m amazed at your total lack of concern for the decline of your once championing establishment. I should perhaps pass on my shellfish allergen and cross-contamination concerns to some allergy awareness groups. Perhaps allergy awareness lobbyists will warrant some attention. Everyone I know already hates Jared and the $5 footlong commercials, so I don’t need to push the issue on that one. The concept of cheese tessellation will obviously elude the average sandwich artist from now until the end of time, so we have no hope there.

Perhaps in copying Quiznos’ idea of toasting subs, you should also adopt their business model in using better quality ingredients and customer service policies. I have had a continued dialog with them regarding your lack of customer service and their seemingly misleading Toasty Torpedo ads with the very tiny hands. They proudly stand behind their ads (however creepy), their innovation, and their customer service.

Not signed. On purpose. Notice all the Cc’s, everyone hates that… I don’t care who you are. I tried to poke at every issue and make empty useless claims about allergy awareness groups, and I brought up that Quiznos is the trend-setter while noting that they’re also not perfect.

And, on a friendlier note to Quiznos, I decided to reveal my intentions to an amicable Mr. Jones:

Thanks Tony,

I must confess, I do have a blog and I have been chronicling my email escapades there. I like to play them as part consumer advocacy, part humor and all goofy. I used to write snail mail letters, but email has made it so much easier & faster. Some friends have encouraged me to keep writing, so I have. I really enjoy the open & honest dialogue that we have going on, and appreciate that you stand behind the product & integrity of your company… and take the time to respond to emails such as mine. Also, you obviously have a sense of humor, which has to be a “must” for any kind of customer interaction. I’m sure you get goofier emails and phone calls from actual crazy people.

I’m intrigued at your suggestion that I get into consulting or franchise journalism. Do you know how I would even go about this? Would I need to obtain a degree in something? I hope to grab followers to my blog just for amusement, but am unaware as to how to make it a profitable venture, ha ha ha.

Thank you once again for your time, I’m actually waiting to hear from some of your Quiznos colleagues, and Subway has still not given me a response beyond “someone will respond”… not that I’m at all surprised by that at this point.

Rock on!
-Eric

Hopefully he writes back in a positive light, and still finds all of this amusing. Still waiting for further comment from his other colleagues, none of which have really delivered so far.

And, now, the fun part… Subway’s response (or lack thereof):

Dear Mr Aixelsyd:

First, allow me to apologize. Secondly, I would like to thank you for taking the time to contact us and share your comments.

At each SUBWAY® restaurant, it is the goal of every owner; manager and employee to produce each sandwich and salad properly made to order.

Our customers provide us with valuable input, which we use to improve our operations. Your comments were shared with the regional office in your area as well as the owner of the SUBWAY® restaurant that you have visited. Since all restaurants are individually owned and operated it is the owner who would be the person to contact you in response to your concern.

I have gone ahead and copied our Training Department so that further lessons can be addressed with owners and their employees on proper handling.

Again, I appreciate you taking the time to contact us. SUBWAY® looks forward to your continued visits.

Sincerely,

Paula Gomez

Heh. “First, allow me to apologize” not followed by an apology is extremely profound, and hopefully intentional. Then, she thanks me for writing, probably through gritted teeth.

This line reeks of copy & paste: “At each SUBWAY® restaurant, it is the goal of every owner; manager and employee to produce each sandwich and salad properly made to order.”

And, I love the long winded “it wasn’t me”/”it’s not my fault”/”it’s not my problem”: “Your comments were shared with the regional office in your area as well as the owner of the SUBWAY® restaurant that you have visited. Since all restaurants are individually owned and operated it is the owner who would be the person to contact you in response to your concern.” Basically, she’s telling me that I’m being ignored by a lower level.

“I have gone ahead and copied our Training Department so that further lessons can be addressed with owners and their employees on proper handling.” With what? Cross-contamination? Cleanliness? Cheese tessellation? How to reply to customer emails?

“SUBWAY® looks forward to your continued visits” …so we can spit in your food? Did she read my emails? Perhaps this whole thing is just a reading comprehension issue. I find it amusing that the e Subway spokesperson declined to comment. Perhaps now is the time to move into old-school W(aL)D mode, and reply that Subway will not be allowed on the moon when I’m emperor.

Are there any psychologists or psychiatrists out there reading this? I’d love to get your take (…if you can tell me without telling me what my own problems are, ha ha ha).

If you haven’t been following, you may want to check out the back-story rundown here: If we’re keeping score, that’s Subway 1 and Quiznos 3½. That should explain the last email, and at the bottom there’s a rundown of all the ones that came before it (with links) if you’re interested.

Also… lots of people have been telling me they’re following… by word of mouth, or Facebook, or Twitter, and even via text message… but I beg you, if you’re reading… post a comment here, and others may have a comment about your comment. I see by the stats that people are reading. Don’t be shy. We’re all friends here. Except for you, people at Subway… Except for you.

Follow the Yellow Brick Road of the ever expanding Social Media network and you’ll be on the path to

Follow the Yellow Brick Road of the ever expanding Social Media network and you’ll be on the path to finding your way into homes and offices everywhere.

Facebook is one of the leading social media networks with more than 350 million active users, where 50% of them log on daily and the fastest growing demographic is 35 years and older. The average user has 130 friends and more than 8 billion minutes are spent on FB each day (worldwide). That is a lot of people snooping around in other peoples profiles and checking out what they’re “friends” are up too.

That is why it is imperative to have a presence on FB for your business. Don’t be intimidated by how to create a FB page or group. It is very simple. Click here to see how www.meetyourtargets.com/blog/?p=12 You see, when ever someone becomes a “fan” of your page ALL their friends see it too. Viral marketing is one of the best ways to spread the word about your company and by simply updating your FB wall every week, you’ll spread the word and gain more exposure… FREE exposure!

Twitter is the fastest growing member community with more than 7 million Twitterers (a.k.a. Tweeters or Tweet-ettes). The largest age group on Twitter is 35-49, comprising almost 42% of the site’s audience.

O.k., I must admit that I follow Ellen DeGeneres on Twitter. She has close to 4 million followers and gives meaning behind marketing on Twitter. She has contests and plays games with her followers. She’ll be traveling in different parts of the country and will Tweet for Alabama to stay tuned because she has some exciting news coming up. Then, when she gets there she’ll Tweet clues as to where prizes are hidden. She also uses it to promote upcoming shows or get questions from followers to ask guests she’ll be interviewing on her show. She’s interactive and engaged. She’s inside people’s homes and connected to them and they feel connected to her.

For your business you can tweet to keep people up to date on your latest news, create a fun contest or link to your blog or website. It’s a great way to stay connected and reach out to your followers. Make sure you have a link to your Twitter page through your website and FB page.

Mashable www.mashable.com recently ran a faceoff between the two leading blog platforms, WordPress and Typepad. The winner?? With more than 4,000 votes from bloggers everywhere, WordPress www.wordpress.com swept the numbers leading with 87% of the votes.

Why do you want to blog? Fresh content, become an expert in your field, keep people informed on your company and/or products and keep an ongoing relationship with both your prospects and your clients.

Many people feel that a blog is too much work, but it’s not. Here are a few tricks to make it easy for you to keep fresh content on your blog.

1) Create a “blog idea folder” to keep on your desk or just create a folder on your desktop to dump ideas into.

2) Build content from your day to day activities and conversations. Every time you read an article or have an interesting conversation with someone regarding your industry, jot it down and add it to your folder or even rip the page out of the newspaper or magazine.

3) Pick a day every week or every other week, depending on your time, to blog. Grab an idea out of your folder and have a quick conversation about it on your blog.

4) It’s o.k. to keep it short and simple. Maybe a summary of what you read in 1-4 sentences and then link to the article.

5) If you have insight into something that you want to share, go for it.

6) Company news? Blog it. New hires? Blog it. Anything going on within your company? Blog it.

Here’s the good news you can sync all three of these together. Use the content you write on your blog and post it on your Facebook wall, then set up the application on your FB page to automatically link all your postings to your Twitter. (read this post to learn how to do that: www.meetyourtargets.com/blog/?p=23

If you blog, that blog can live on your FB wall and can have a link on Twitter. Beautiful
