同日再下一站：荃灣大會堂 “Being Gidon Kremer The Rise and Fall of the Classical Musician”。作為 classical music 門外漢的我，舊同事介紹了 Igudesman & Joo，在 youtube 看完他們以古怪騎尼但創意到不得了的「把戲」奏古典音樂，於是非常感興趣，果然沒有令人失望。

音樂世界我不太懂，對他們的認識就是從這一個音樂會，他們融入大眾卻不是靠奏麥兜，笑談藝術商品化但依然賣飛賣碟賣個滿堂紅，卻沒有墮入（落）在流行王國之中，捍衛 classical music 不被 music business 吞噬之餘仍然可以大紅大紫發光發亮而沒有在迷失。這些都是創作人面對的根本問題。

一天跑了三個活動，從 community arts 到 independent film 到 classical music，Gidon Kremer 的話為這天作了一個 conclusion＋inspiration：我們不必挑戰觀眾，也不用去取悅觀眾。如何在兩者之間作出平衡（非compromise），最是值得思考的題目。

Deary me, my social (media) life has gone somewhat downhill of late! I am officially horrendous at keeping in touch with you my internet world…

I’ve had a tremendously busy couple of weeks (or months, I cant keep count anymore!). I actually thought the time was 9pm as I’ve only just sat down after getting in from work and putting the tea on – but infact it is 10:49pm – woe is me indeed!

I just thought I’d write a quick catch up blog before, well, bedtime really!

Basically, I’ve been working hard and playing harder! Theres been fancy dress, fireworks and actual FIRE… and some lovely flowers too. Man, it’s been ‘fabulous’ for more of a better ‘f’ word. AMAZING. Anywhoo, I would post some pic’s but I’m currently being selective with my face (and my friends faces for that matter) and the internet. Just because there are some unkind folk who would prefer to have an over active imagination and not think about getting caught in the act. LOLZ indeed. But this is by-they-by.

Lots of exciting fashionable stuff going on at work and home. I have lots of recent purchases to share and restaurants to critque!

But for now, I am off to bedfordshire for I am shattered!

On 16 ^th of October 60 new members of AIESEC in Latvia came together to have their first National Training Seminar…

The event held place in the recreation center „Pipariņi” located 2.5 km from Cēsis city center.

During the conference new members had an opportunity to widen their knowledge on the world, values and culture of AIESEC, as well as explore the goals our organization is striving for. Delegates were encouraged to discuss current world issues and the impact members of our organization can make to improve the situation. Delegates were offered to consider their future roles and development in AIESEC, as well as align it with the vision of their future.

Apart from all that, some practical skills trainings were provided as well. AIESEC in Latvia wants to thank Jānis Ozoliņš – AIESEC Latvia Alumni and the representative of Demarsch company – for the interactive and lively training on selling skills.

Some big things are happening in LC Riga! Our LCP Ilona is in EuroCo conference.. this Weekend we had NTS…. and today, on Wednesday 8th October at 18:30 in EVF room 404 there will be an LCM where we will see just what happened in the national training seminar. also we will see what are the opportunities and positions to take, also something fun and a special guest – Pavels to talk about activating leadership!

And last, but not least – Guys, you might know that this is a year of Latvia’s 90^thanniversary. In case of this, LV90 organizing committee, is making great event – Guineess Record Relay running “Skrien!Par Latviju”, where all people are invited to take part in 100 m relay run The thing is that this happens 24 hours and over 2000 people will be there, so it would be great event AIESEC to show up

The run will take place on 18th and 19th of October. There will be lot’s of media, all kinds of people, music, entertainment, fun and games. So, we as AIESEC simply cannot miss this chance to show ourselves not only as active youth, but also as patriots, good sportsmen and a team! So, let’s register and run!

Ever heard the expression ‘hard work never breaks bone’? It makes them stronger! Most people resent hard work; they would rather have hard work done for them by someone else. They would always think about how to make things easy and if they can’t, they give up. Hard work doesn’t mean labour or manual work. It is work in general, whether in the office, or on the field, in school or at a function, work is work.

Technocrats & high-tech companies all over the world are always looking for ways to make things easier. The thing is while they are making it easy for you, they are working hard, very hard. They make the IPods, the blackberries, the laptops, the cellular phones, the spaceships, the list is endless. The thing is no matter how the world tries to make things easy for us, we still have to hard work at everything and anything we desire to excel at.

If you are in school, for example, there are new technologies all over: you get assignments sent to you by email, there’s distance learning programs, there are visual presentations, laboratories, anything to make teaching and learning easy but the thing is you still have to study. If your school is the most modern school on the globe, the student still has to work hard and study what he or she has to in order to make it out successfully. Of course if you don’t work hard, you fail, the system fails you. This is the most important point, stick with me, how did you feel on your graduation day or how would you feel when all your HARD WORK has been crowned with a 1st Class degree? Excited, elated, on top of the world! Why? Because you knew/know it wasn’t given to you on a silver platter- you WORKED HARD for it. That’s the feeling of hard work.

Now imagine how you would feel otherwise.  Guess what the system makes it easy but you still have to do the hard work. It applies wherever you find yourself, whether a janitor or CEO. Nothing is given on a silver platter, you need to work hard.

Notice there’s a feeling that comes with working hard. For instance you had outlined things you had set out to do in a day, so many tasks and then you strive hard to do everything and all turns out successful, how would you feel? Good or not? There’s this inner joy or sudden strength that comes with completing tasks successfully, you suddenly feel like you could do anything, any task because you know it wasn’t easy to accomplish.

We all want things done the easy way. Guess what; even the easy way is not easy, if you really want to succeed. Don’t complain about hard work! You do it! How else do you think the world’s big-guns made it? WORKING HARD!

If you never worked hard in your life for something you have now, chances are if you don’t work hard at keeping it, you will lose it eventually, maybe not now but sometime soon, you will. You can’t cheat in this game, you never can. YOU DO IT, YOU EARN IT!

Apart from the success, the feeling inside of you that counts.

Tomorrow is another festival of one of our race.
Yes, its Deepavali of your Indian comrades. And it is another public holiday!!!

To be honest, the Indian community the one of the race where they still have very strong spirit of their race’s festival and they really celebrating it with the attitude that they suppose to have.

Unlike other race, for example, Chinese.
Now Chinese are celebrating Chinese New Year with a different attitude from what they should have. Why? Although most of them still following the customs, but they are more prefer to buy expensive clothes which are not practical to wear during normal days just to show off.
On the mouth, although they didn’t scold people “You go and die lar!” But in the heart, they still scolding people like this during CNY, so whats the point of not voice it out lar?

What?  If you asked “what’s a NaNo…?” you’re not alone.  And I’m really glad I asked!

NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month — a challenge to write a 50,000 word novel during the month of November.  A participant (and winner) for three consecutive years I am not (yet) among the truly obsessed who start at midnight (local time) and often go way past the 50,000 word goal.  I can’t even manage to hang onto the same user name from year to year but I keep showing up.

Still, it’s October 15th and I find myself (already) wondering whether or not I will succumb to this particular form of insanity again this year….Why not?  It’s fun… it’s free… and there’s a whole community of other people trying to get that ‘crappy first draft’ finished before the 30th!

Check it out at the NaNoWriMo site or in this article How to Participate in NaNoWriMo – wikiHow.  But be careful while you’re looking around — you might just find yourself getting up early to get your 1667 words in before you start your day!

Many of the workshops I teach are about setting goals and taking action to reach them.  Short articles don’t reflect one important discussion that often takes place in those workshops:  “what if our goals don’t matter?”

Now before you click off of the page, this is not as depressing as it first sounds.

The idea came from a long ago conversation with my friend Penny.  We were at a conference and had just attended a workshop that featured some very aggressive goal-setting and achievement techniques that didn’t really fit for either of us.  Busy Moms with demanding jobs and lots of interests, we wondered why we had both been so turned off by the speaker.

We were left with a similar question.  What if our goals don’t matter?

I suspect it’s a question a lot of people struggle with and we had a great discussion.  While there are certain things that are vital to achieve there are others that would just be nice.  Extras.  Dreams.  Fantasies. 

She and I were both struggling with the idea that, while we both like moving forward in accomplishment and believe that we have the ability to make at least some of our dreams come true, it is not always necessary.  We both had (and continue to have) wonderful lives and are very, very grateful for that.  And that is what made the new goals ‘not matter’ – the fact that life is full and wonderful the way it is.

I think that this is a vital step that may be missing from some of the ‘success teachings.’  We don’t have to be dissatisfied to set goals.  In fact, being grateful for what we already have is an important first step.  Full acknowledgement, gratitude and enjoyment of what we already have helps us to build on strengths.   It connects us with our strong foundation as we build an even better future.

so after a bit of driving, i came home and then went out to celebrate my friend’s birthday. his name is mike (michael, whatevers) and he’s a super responsible, hard-working, respectful guy. he’s a great guy minus the fact that he’s a bit short and has weird hair. he’s pretty buff though, so i suppose that makes up for it? anyway, he doesn’t rely on his parents at all. he makes his own money and pays for everything and he just has motivation. plain and simple.

when i compare myself to him, i feel somewhat ashamed of myself because he does everything himself. he’s so mature. and he looks and acts like my cousin too. you know, the smart one? but, damn, he’s an amazing person because his life is actually really hard. like my old friend, suki, he has a brother with ADHD. and not regular ADHD.

this brother always curses and bothers people. especially michael. and i feel so apologetic to him because he has to live with this abuse all the time. and it was his birthday and his brother treated him so badly. he doesn’t even think when he says these kinds of things. i mean, i know that he can’t control it or anything, but where did this come from? it’s just thoughtless blabber.

this wasn’t the only time i have met his brother (he’s 13 btw). some months ago, it was bonodori and while i was on my way home, i noticed the back of michael’s head. and, of course, i walked a bit faster to say ‘hi’. and i did. but then, the kid next to him goes, “hey, are you michael’s bitch?” i mean, what kind of person would say that sort of thing the first time meeting someone? i just thought he was an idiot, but now, i suppose there’s another side of the story.

so michael’s family owns a teppanyaki place down by the supermarket that they OWN. you know, LAM’S SEAFOOD MARKET, hao? hahaha i know you shop there, right? anyway… it was an interesting party to say the least. they closed down the restaurant for his birthday and he invited like 14-15 friends (most guys, 3 girls…) and the other half was his dad’s business associates. i felt apologetic again because michael had to help out at his own party and BLAHHH. he even had to bring out his own cake. i felt that his brother should have carried it out, but he probably would have dropped it… -.-

his dad was super cute though! as mike brought the cake out, he kept banging a gong and banged the gong while we sang happy birthday. HELLA FUNNY. and then, one person i didn’t know told me and mei to kiss him. I WAS DYING!! hahahahahhahahahaha but mei was dying more.

but yes. i really felt that michael deserves so much more respect from his brother. and for a 13 year old, he’s big. and i mean BIG. he’s bigger than michael and he gets to say what he wants, which saddens me. like every sentence, there was cursing and it was hard for me to watch/hear this guy just blab his mouth off. so much, that i had to hug michael several times. lol

AND HIS DOG, SONNY/SUNNY IS SO EFFING ADORABLE. it’s a silky terrier and should have had long hair… until his brother cut off a lot of his hair. -.-;; mike found it on the street like 6 months ago at 1-2 in the morning after work. and he brought it home! ee!! soo cuuute. i kind of felt that sunny didn’t really like the brother because when i held him, i could feel his heart beat quicken when the brother came around.

seriously, what a menace.

this weekend was a good one. 3 days.. ahh… and then, back to school. DAMN! but wednesday is gonna be good because it’s the PSAT for sophomores and juniors. and seniors just have to get to school at 11:30 for 3rd period (5 minutes) and then a froshing assembly and then 5th period which will be set aside to discuss the assembly. and you’d think that it would be the perfect day to skip, but if you don’t go that day, no homecoming for you! i ain’t going anyway. so whatever.
