TANDOORI TURKEY BURGER

INGREDIENTS

1/4 onion
1 garlic clove
1 1/2 pounds ground turkey meat
1 1/4 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup plain yogurt
3/4 tablespoon garam masala (available in ethnic stores)
1/2 teaspoon cayenne
1/4 teaspoon coriander
1/2 teaspoon paprika

no-stick spray

lettuce
6 sesame-seed hamburger buns

SPECIAL APPLIANCE

outdoor grill

PREPARATION

Mince onion and garlic. Add all ingredients to large bowl. Mix with hands. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Preheat outdoor grill on medium-high. Spray grill with no-stick spray. Make patties with hand. Place patties on grill and cook until patty is white inside or its juice is clear. Turn patties over at least once, but only they are firm enough to be flipped.

Toast buns. Assemble your burger. Enjoy.

TIDBITS

1) Each burger in this recipe uses lemon juice and a turkey patty.

2) Chet Lemon was a center fielder for the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers from 1975 to 1990. He played for the World Champion Detroit Tigers in 1984. Mr. Lemon hit 215 home runs over his career and batted .273

3) Bob Lemon pitched for the Cleveland Indians from 1946 to 1958. He played for the World Champion Cleveland Indians in 1948. His lifetime record was 207-128.

4) However Patty Duke never played professional baseball. Her forte was acting. She’s best known for her starring roles as Patty and Cathy Lane in the early 60s’ television program, The Patty Duke Show. Part of the theme says, “… a hot dog makes her lose control.”

“If I wanted to become a British citizen, I could use the possibility, but I don’t want to,” is the response of R. Meilutytė to the continuous questions of British journalists if the swimmer plans to change her citizenship.

The Olympic, World champion and best athlete of Lithuania in 2012 was answering questions to the Plymouth Herald about her free time, of which she has more than usual now since the end of the championship in Turkey.

“I relax with my friends. Family and friends are always a part of my thoughts. I try as hard as I can to be an ordinary person. There are some times when you can completely shut down and sometimes when you are not allowed. When I have free time I don’t have any activities. At those times I just want to rest. I have the time to walk around the town,” R. Meilutytė.

According to UK journalists, R. Meilutytė seems shy when talking about her free time. That changes when the conversation moves towards swimming.

“This summer I will enter the World championship in Barcelona and before that another couple of competitions. So I’m returning to my  after the Christmas and New Year holidays”.

Although the media began to hunt Meilutytė when she was just 15, she isn’t hiding from journalists yet.

“Sometimes I get tired of the attention from the media, but I understand that it is part of my life,” explains the Lithuanian swimmer.

The second place went to the Jamaican swimmer, Alia Atkinson, who also broke the Jamaican national record for the second time after she finished with a time of 29.67. Atkinson was in second place after Meilutytė during the whole tournament, from the very first race in the heats. The bronze medal went to Australia, after the Australian swimmer, Sarah Katsoulis, finished with a time of 29.94. The world record holder, the American Jessica Hardy, who finished the heats and the semifinals in third place, was disappointed when she finished only in fifth place with a time of 30.01 seconds. Hardy claimed the world record in 2009 when she stopped the clock at 28.80 seconds.

During the whole tournament, right from the heats, Meilutytė was at the front. In the first race she improved the championship record for the first time and claimed a new national record after finishing with a time of 29.56 seconds. This time put her in first place and got her into the semifinals. In the semis, Meilutytė successfuly improved the championship record again, as well as the national one. But this time, the talented young Lithuanian also improved the European record after she stopped the clock in Istanbul at 29.51 seconds. And again, Meilutytė finished in first place and made it to the finals. In the finals Meilutytė only saw the world record and she was very close to it after she finished again with new national, European and championship records and with a gold medal after she crossed the finish line with the great time of 29.44.

Meilutytė, who has become a hero in Lithuania and abroad following the Olympic games in London this year, entered the pool with a huge standing ovation and since she touched the water, she was in the lead and at the front. In the whole of Lithuania, life stopped for those 29.44 seconds, in order to see a new hero make the history of this small and great nation. There is nothing left to say besides ‘good luck’ and ‘best wishes’ to our new star Rūta Meilutytė.

Lest you think I am starting to develop a Complex Christus with all this talk of guiding lights, let me tell you that this week has been pretty dark for us too. Not that there has been anything wrong, just that the road to recovery has had more roadworks in it than I might have hoped, and we have been stuck on the B Route diversions for a bit while my flu finally dissipated. We had to cancel going to The Seahorse in Blyth to see Dave Cowan and his happy band as I discovered that yes, I could play, and yes I could sing[1], but only for about ten minutes until the world swirled, anti-clockwise down a plughole of tiredness. I have some advice however, that will make enduring this strain of winter flu better for you – shoot yourself.

So this week has been another of not going out, but we have used the time as well as we could to get back on the bus, as it were. Even a week of not playing seems to have slowed me up, but with a few gigs coming up, we decided to take a trip down memory lane and work through the book, revisiting stuff we haven’t done for ages. So, One Day, The Voice, Don’t Ask Me and a few hundred others have been dusted off and are in the frame for our outings this week. We have gigs coming up, but aim to break back in by going to three clubs this week, so we hope to be able to visit The Ship in Middlestone (Sunday), The North Britton (Monday) and a much threatened visit to The Cutty Wren in Skelton; and that should be a busy week.

I have also been much de la busy with the recordings, inasmuch as I managed to get a tally of all the stuff we have recorded; not finished, mixed and mastered, just recorded, and it comes in total to sixteen tracks. If they all make the cut, it will make a few mini CD’s which is what we want. Expect new songs and reworkings of the old ones, and even the odd traditional song thrown in. So in addition to the above gigage, it’s the mixing desk for me. Parallel processing anyone?

Acoustic Chum ‘Turkish’ Chris Milner pointed out that a link from last week’s blog was broken. It’s not really broke, just that the page it goes to has black text on a dark grey background. Not sure what Turkish is up to, we must catch up with the Legend that lives where Four Fields Meet and see what he’s been up to, but the point of this excursion is that the link was to a page about Tommy Ferens, the beggar who is the subject of the latest FG epic entitled, er, Tommy Ferens. I am happy to report to the serried phalanx of worried readers, that this song is settling nicely and starting to develop a bit of the old FG ‘feel’ as we work out who sings which line, and how it all sits together. This song will be a useful addition to the set when we do our U3A gigs later in the year, as the story of the song is to be as important as the song itself.

The gallery this week is a sort of ‘best of 2012’. Many images of course are the work of the Pensionable Paprazzi known as The Wrinkly Wroadies, who will be back on the Wroad with us this week. If you recognise all the clubs and folks in the pictures, a you win a coconut. As is traditional in such matters.

The Kings’ Head and Washerwomans’ Legs Folk Club has been going through troubled times of late. Sadly punterage is down and the standard of the floor is, just as sadly, about the same as it was before. That means that some club nights, there is a revolving Carousel[2] of keen and determined souls for whom a guitar is a tool with which to demonstrate to the world, that some things are not quite as easy as they look. However, this is just as it should be, and Chairman Dave is indefatigable[3]. He has decided that a local talent night is the answer as this will bring in the yoof and rejuvenate the club. Unaccompanied versions of ‘Smells Like Team Spirit’, Nylon strung interpretations of ‘Enter Sandman’ and even a misguided soul or two who believe that self penned compositions are a good idea will be to the fore.

Hang on, that sounds like us; where’s that application form?

And so as the lonely folkie of fate waits for the phone call of destiny and receives instead a cheery invitation to have his windows ripped out, kitchen redesigned and a virus removed from a computer he hasn’t got, I realise that it is, the end of this blog.

Keep Strummin’

The plane, essentially a modified passenger airliner, boasts reclining leather seats, bedding, a bar and more than one plasma television screen. The 2008 World Champion is believed to have purchased the aircraft in order to continue seeing long-term girlfriend and X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger, a previous split in their relationship coming after an argument over separation during Lewis’ hectic race schedule.

The last time Lewis’ private life took over – 2011 – was an Annus Horribilis for the former World Champion.

However, the move has prompted both praise and criticism alike from fans. Some have welcomed his decision, seeing it as a positive effort from the Stevenage-born 28 year old to maintain as normal a social life as possible. Others have raised questions over the apparent distraction of his sometimes erratic partnership.

Chief amongst these worries is the effect of time away from the team on Lewis. Jetting around the world between races will take precious time away from working with the team and keeping at the peak of physical fitness; who can forget that woeful 2011 season when Lewis last allowed his private life to interfere with his work activities? Comments on the source of his wealth linked a supposed tax rebate to the ‘spare change’ used by Hamilton to buy the aircraft, but with a £60 million retainer via his Mercedes contract he appears to have the cash to hand.

On several forums fans stepped forward to defend the Brit, citing his bravery behind the wheel and continued success as evidence enough of his having earned the benefits now brought his way.

It is unknown whether Mercedes management will make a comment, but it is thought unlikely as the purchase and motive behind it has little to do with Lewis’ racing passion.

Mercedes unveil the F1W04 in the Jerez pitlane on Monday morning before Nico Rosberg becomes the first man to drive the new car when testing begins at the Spanish track on Tuesday.

We are One with the hoop, we can Fly like an Eagle over our differences.

The first one here is on how to do one of our favourite moves: the Phonics Monkey.

What is it?

It’s a 360 degree vertical spin linked into a front loop.

It looks very spectacular, is one of the highest scoring moves and also one of the hardest to master.

How to do it?

Step One: Start up nice and high on the foam pile. Turn the boat so that it’s lined up straight to the oncoming flow. Let yourself drift down towards the seam line with a little bit of edge held on.

Step Two: Just before you reach seam line reach across the bow with a crossbow stroke to initiate the 360 pirouette.

As soon as you’ve initiated the crossbow pirouette, start looking ahead of the boats rotation.

Step Three: When you’re getting nice and vertical and your nearing the end of the 360 you want to spot a marker, could be a tree or a slalom pole, anything that is directly upstream of you.

Step Four: When you see that marker jump up on your toes into your standard looping position & then kick your feet out straight ahead of you in the direction of that upstream marker.  The more aggressive the better at this point.

How to make sure it scores?

• Try to start at a low angle and build up continuously to vertical. Timed correctly this will give you the biggest air and make sure the judges like it.
• Make sure you keep the loop nice and straight at the end. (Spot your marker & Kick your feet out in front when you finish the Loop)

Things to watch out for:

• Going vertical too soon.
• Taking too much speed into the move (that just means you’ll go vertical too soon.)
• Reaching out too far on the cross bow. Again this will mean you go vert too soon or hurt your shoulder.

Finally

Get out there and have a go, be patient it will probably be a gradual process mastering this move, but very satisfying when you get it.

     Undoubtedly, this is the car to beat in the world of 1/10th scale offroad. It’s heritage is unmatched by another other manufacturer and has won 5 World Championship titles in a row! No other car has been able to claim the World Champion title since the B4′s release in 2003.  With constant performance updates by the team, it is poised to defend it’s crown yet again in 2013. Will it win another title before going into retirement with the long awaited B5 just around the corner? There is a lot of speculation that the B5 may make it’s debut at the 2013 Worlds in Chico, California, but there are also those who believe that Team Associated will decide to run the B4.2 because the platform is proven and it’s a platform that all the team drivers know how to tune very well. Either way, I’m for the IFMAR Worlds this year.

This article will follow the progression of the B4 over the years for those who are wondering, “What parts do I need to make my B4.1 Wolds C ar into a  B4.2?” or “Wait, what? There’s a Worlds Car?” Even though these updates might be subtle differences to some, each part or change that has been added to the kit has resulted in a championship winning formula. Maybe it’s time you refresh your B4 buggy?

In 2003, AE release the B4 Factory Team that came loaded with “Team” option parts. With the industry on a slow decline, the development of the car also followed suit. It wouldn’t be until July of 2010, the B4 would finally get it’s first major update known as the B4.1. Here are the differences below in a nice chart. The prices are based off online shopping and the “+” is my recommended upgrades for a stock Factory Team B4.

B4 FT —> B4.1 FT

     Team Associated decided to wait 7 years before releasing the B4.1, but with the advent of lipo’s and brushless technology the industry saw a resurgence in popularity that would ultimately drive manufacturers to further advance car design at a quicker pace.  In 2011 at the IFMAR World’s in Finland, the B4.1 would claim it’s 5th World title and with that AE wanted to commemorate this achievement with a replica of Cav’s winning buggy and correctly named…….  The B4.1 World’s Car. From B4.1 to B4.1 WC only took just over a year. So here is a list for the B4.1 to B4.1 WC edition.

B4.1 —> B4.1 WC

     The major differences from B4.1FT to B4.1WC is the mainly the new longer 8mm chassis and the parts that come with it. I’ve “+” a few things that I thought is crucial into putting together a “race” ready B4.1. Without a doubt, the main thing here is the +8mm chassis. This was developed before the 2011 Worlds in Finland as a prototype, but having been victorious at Worlds, it now has become the standard chassis that all the team drivers use.  With a longer chassis comes a longer battery brace and body. Although I have “+” the brace, you can go with whatever holds the battery down. The old brace will hold the battery down, but just won’t look as cool. As for the body, I know a lot of guys that love the JConcepts Finnisher +8mm body and would recommend that, but stock body has got to be a winner too because the current world champ still rocks the Proline Bulldog +8mm body even though he’s no longer a Proline driver. Food for thought. Next let’s look at what the differences are between the B4.1 WC car and the newly released B4.2!

B4.1 WC —> B4.2

     With the last edition in the B4 series (I am assuming) includes some significant updates. New Big Bore shocks, new slipper design assembly, new hex mounting system, and new C-tower w/lower ballstud mount for the going price of $279??? That’s just $30.00 more (also minus the tires you never use) than the kit it’s replacing! Without a doubt, whether it wins or it loses at the 2013 Worlds….it’s already made history. A  legacy.
