Este es el último juego que he terminado, World in Conflict. Un título de estrategia táctica militar que te sumerge en medio de un conflicto armado entre Rusia y Estados Unidos.

El juego es… como decirlo… La ostia. A diferencia de otros títulos de estrategia, World in Conflict deja de lado la mayor parte de la estrategia de gestión para centrarse en la estrategia táctica, de este modo el jugador tiene total libertad para dedicarse en cuerpo y alma a aniquilar al enemigo, tomar puestos avanzados y cumplir objetivos a la vez que trata de conservar sus fuerzas.

Al no haber recursos que recolectar, recibirás al principio de cada partida una serie de puntos para gastar en tus unidades que te enviarán por vía aérea. Estos puntos los irás recuperando progresivamente si pierdes alguna de tus tropas.

La acción del juego es muy rápida, te irán dando objetivos progresivamente y, generalmente, tras darte un objetivo principal te darán uno secundario que puedes completar o no. El problema es que si no lo haces no recibes todas las bonificaciones y honores que podrías conseguir, pero para cumplir los objetivos secundarios tendrás que dividir tus tropas en muchas ocasiones y trabajar con ambas partes a la vez, mientras tus compañeros te gritan por radio que les ayudes en otro punto, lo que puede ser un poco desesperante.

Esa es otra característica de este juego, en ocasiones puede llevar a la desesperación, tus tropas están muriendo, el ejército enemigo es innumerable y te tiene rodeado. Tu tienes lo recursos (artillería, ataques aéreos, especiales de unidades) para salvarlos, pero tienes que hacerlo todo rápido y bien o todas tus unidades terminaran en un agujero humeante en el suelo y fracasarás la misión. Todo esto mientras realizas los objetivos secundarios como he comentado antes.
Aun con todo, salir victorioso de estas situaciones da una satisfacción y alivio que pocos juegos pueden ofrecer (sobre todo cuando aciertas de pleno al ejército enemigo con un ataque de bombardeo pesado).

¡Morid soviéticos!

Gráficamente hablando es muy realista, aunque se necesita directx 10 para disfrutarlo en todo su esplendor, sigue ofreciendo un acabado espectacular. Los efectos de luces y sombras, el humo y el bump-mapping usado en su debido momento (las huellas de los coches, los cráteres de una explosión) le dan al juego una atmósfera que provocará que no te despegues del monitor.

Como punto y final decir que este juego me ha demostrado que queda esperanza en el mundo de la estrategia. Es un juego innovador que no se ciñe a los estándares y por tanto ofrece una experiencia muy interesante y adictiva.

Foreword: I am very excited. This is definitely one of my favorite posts for 2009, and as you read further, you will understand why. This guide is clearly not illegal. It is simply another method to enable users to play their LAN enabled games over the Internet with friends. No longer are you bound to be in the basement with your PCs to play LAN games! There is a reason why I spent two long nights working on this guide and the excellent video! ~ Versatile

If you follow this blog, or know anything about VPN programs, Hamachi is a great program that people can use to play LAN games with each other. In short, Hamachi was the king for implementing LAN games to play over the Internet. How it worked is people would join these networks, and Hamachi gives each user a unique IP address. When you launch a game, the game is tricked into thinking that everyone in the network is on the same LAN, and hence, you can see each other to play the game.

Of course, Hamachi has other useful purposes such as being a great secure chat medium, as well as being an alternative as a safe VPN to tunnel into your PCs and transfer files or encrypt remote transfers or remote administration.

See you are praising Hamachi?

Just like any program in life, everything has its downfall unfortunately. Hamachi is a great program, but when you try to play LAN enabled games over the Internet, it is not an exact science. I harp a lot about the importance of VPN alias, and I thought that was the holy grail to make games work, but that is not true unfortunately.

Although you do the VPN alias for the user, it turns out that sometimes it doesn’t make the server show up in the game. You may have to disable encryption, and instead of having the the first 3 octets of the IP address same as host and the last octet the same as the client’s last octet, you may have to change the method where the last octet of the VPN alias is one number higher than the client’s last octet.

For example:

Host IP: 5.156.23.333

Client IP: 5.142.69.449

The traditional VPN alias for host would be: 5.156.23.449. Sometimes not all games will work properly, and through error and trial, you find out the VPN alias should really be 5.156.23.334. Get my drift? It is not an exact science.

Plus, there are claims that in Vista and Windows 7 that the UDP traffic that Hamahi used is not being routed properly in the OS so that is why you may not see a game in the LAN menu.

Well frick man. How about Garena?

I’m glad you reminded me about Garena. Don’t get me wrong, Garena is a great program to. Hamachi is limited in the sense that in order to play your favorite game, you need other people online at the same time in your network. Since the network is limited to 16 players, you constantly have to kick people to get new people inside.

When using Garena, this is not the case anymore. Garena is almost like Valve’s Steam in the sense that it has a game browser. It has multiple network rooms, where the max limit of each room is 225 players. Garena takes care of the VPN alias in the background. All you need to do is make sure your game is the latest version as the other players, host a game, and then people can instantly join you through the multiplayer aspect of the game in question.

The problem? Garena has a small list of games. The hottest games they got going on right now is Left 4 Dead, Killing Floor, Starcraft, and the Warcraft 3 series. It is funny that they have COD4 and COD5. Although its nearly empty for USA rooms, its vastly popular in Brazil and Europe networks? What gives? >_>

If you have a LAN game like Diablo II, there is no way you can make that work in Garena. You can try to make it work in Hamachi though, but you will have to mess with the VPN alias, and making Hamachi the primary adapter in Windows, which I have guides on already.

This is why I am so glad to find a new program called Tunngle.

All right, you got me. What is Tunngle?

Tunngle (pronounced as “tung-gle” – I hope that is right pronunciation) is another VPN client program like Hamachi or Garena. However, it is vastly compared to Hamachi because of its feature set.

As you can see, Tunngle blows Hamachi out of the water. It has an interface that is a cross between Steam and Garena. It has a list of game networks that you can join and its very easy to play a game. Zero configuration which I will talk about later in this guide. It truly is the holy grail that all the hardcore PC gamers have been waiting for. Oh yea, and if a game is not on the Tunngle network, you can go to a misc network and play your game there! It has sexy written all over it.

You are killing me with anticipation. How do I get started with Tunngle?!

Haha, keep your pants on. Here is the guide you have been waiting for in easy to follow steps:

Note: The program is made by German programmers, and it is still in beta. They are working on an English translation, which I hope is released soon!

1) Go to www.tunngle.net. Download the program and install it. Make an account at the website and fill out the required information. Make sure to confirm the email message.

2) Launch the tunngle.net program. It will look like the screenshot when you first load it.

3) After awhile a message will pop up below. Say “Ja”.

4) Type in your account and software password.

It will take about a minute to connect and it looks like the screen below.

5) Here you are at the main screen. Click on community, then network, then go to browser.

6) On the left hand side, is all the categories. If you select any particular category, you can break it down to the specific games.

7) Enter into any game room. Now minimize Tunngle, and launch your game. When you go to the LAN portion, you should see servers if anyone is hosting. Likewise, you can host and others will see it. No configuration. No need to mess with VPN alias or other settings.

Pretty cool right? Let’s say that your favorite game is not in the Tunngle game browser. No worries! Just go to any game room, although you can go to one of the rooms under “misc”. Host your game there with your friend, and Tunngle takes care of the rest.

OMG, this really is the holy grail!

Of course it is. If you do not realize the beauty of this program, then I ask you leave or reconsider why this program is a breakthrough. Easy to use, easy to setup, and best of all, it works with all games with LAN functionality. Screw you Garena. Hamachi can rot in hell when your favorite game is not working, but yet it works great in Tunngle!

The only problem is right now like 98% of the user base in Tunngle are Europe/Asia game players. There are hardly any USA players, maybe 0.05% are USA/Canada players. My goal is that this article, coupled with my Youtube video, will open up other peoples eyes to get onto the Tunngle network.

I came down with a serious case of apathy this evening, so please forgive the quality of this post, I’m still recovering…

I completed World in Conflict a few days ago. I have really enjoyed this game, the levels are nice and varied, and the character development is much more than you’d usually see in an RTS.

Here are my awards pages:

For those who haven’t played the game, as well as for completing the mission you are awarded medals for completing the secondary missions too. These range from easy, samething you were planning to do anyway, through medium, complete the current objective quickly, to hard, divert forces from the difficult battle you are engaged in to deal with something across the map. Although some were difficult I never felt they were unfair, it also gives me a reason to go back and play those levels.

I was actually surprised at how well I did, some parts of the missions went terribly… (Such as losing all my initial squad in under a minute.) As you can see there are only four missions I need to redo.

Also of note are the end credits, they would definitely feature in list of the best, although they aren’t like others in the list. Warning, spoilers ahead. Skip to the next paragraph if you want it to remain a secret. There is no little theatrical production (Sacrifice) or witty song (Portal), but instead there are some scary staff photo’s, interesting behind the scenes video footage (recording the music and the voice acting being my favourites), and some crazy bugs that turned up in development (control points on non-existant bridges, units running round in circles). Whilst I’m in spoiler mode, I also liked the mini-storyline of the portable CD player that ran throughout. Good choice of end song too, very fitting.

A small note about the Soviet Assault expansion. The storyline fitted well with the original missions, there was a danger, particularly with the last mission, that things wouldn’t quite match up and whilst it wasn’t perfect, I don’t see how they could have made it any better. If they had planned ahead then it might have worked better, but then there would be a chance it would feel like there was something missing from the original missions. It would have been nice for people who already have the original game to be able to play the campaign separately, but for those of us who haven’t it works well.

So that’s another game for my list, if you haven’t already I would recommend you make it one too.

It’s too hot…

You don't often look at the sky, but it makes for some startling vistas.

Having temporarily sorted my overheating graphics card I’ve finally been able to get passed the first mission in World in Conflict. I covered the demo several weeks back, and I’ve had just as much fun, if not more, with the full game. The original campaign storyline has you controlling the American forces, and the expansion pack let’s you see the Soviet side. But it isn’t like other games where you play one campaign, then you play the other, the missions mesh together into a greater whole. Since I bought the Complete Edition I’ve only ever known them together, and I feel they work really well.

Kaboom!

Both sides have a strong leader, Colonel Sawyer for the Americans and Polkovnik Orlovsky for the Soviets, with a large amount of voice acting to keep the story flowing and the experience more involving. The missions are nice and simple, I don’t think I’ve ever been lost as to what I should be doing, and as I mentioned with the demo, you are part of a greater force so although you get the more involved orders you don’t feel like you’re just been told what to do. For me the difficulty feels just right, I often get a little flustered and it’s rare for my original squad to survive a whole battle but I can complete the missions.

If you read my First Impressions you’ll probably recognise the mission in screenshots which I’ve only just reached in the game proper. You may also remember that the demo crashed part way through, well now I’ve completed it all and was quite surprised at how much more there was to do. If you haven’t guessed already there isn’t any structure to this post, and no point aside from looking at the lovely explosions, I just wanted to ramble on for a bit. I won’t bother going over what I experienced in the demo, I’ll just continue from the Supermarket. If you don’t want any spoilers then just look at the pretty pictures.

For the previous missions I haven’t found much use for troops, it’s just easier to call in a load of tanks and have fun positioning them. However this mission, with it’s confined streets and lack of a constant supply of tanks does make better use, but really only of the anti-tank squad. Stick them in a nearby building and they’ll happily destroy all the tanks in the area before the building falls down around them. I had some left over and fortunately the supermarket can hold three squads, after I piled them all in I placed my various vehicles in the control areas.

I had just been given more advanced fire support options and as I was facing a losing battle I dropped several barrels of napalm along the hill edge that the enemies were approaching from.

We aren't there long however before the Colonel calls ordering us to evacuate, the enemy are about to bomb my position.

I was a little too slow, I thought about loading up the troops into the transports but didn't do it in time.

Next we were ordered across to the other side of the town to defend one of the incoming roads.

Lots of lovely smoke and explosive effects.

The in-game cut-scenes could give some lesser FPS' a run for their money.

This whole mission was a losing battle, the enemy forces slowly pushing us all into the centre. All we could do was hold out for as long as we could until the reinforcements arrived.

Help doesn't come from the land however, but from the sea.

Now the mission takes on an almost mini-game feel to it, as you call out coordinates for the ships massive batteries to fire on.

BANG!

Finally the land forces arrive and the fight is over. I don't fancy meeting the inhabitants once they've seen the state of their town...

So there you have it, it takes a pretty powerful computer to run it on full but as you’ve seen it still looks good even on lower settings. I haven’t had this much fun with an RTS in I don’t know how long.

World in Conflict è un prodotto degli Swordfish Studio, che hanno rilanciato su console una storia alternativa sull’invasione in Europa e Stati Uniti negli anni 90, da parte della superpotenza Russa, l’URSS, consentendo di rivedere la Russia impegnata in un conflitto a livello mondiale. In World in Conflict devi occupare e conquistare più parti del territorio di guerra possibili, ma a differenza dei soliti giochi strategici in tempo reale ( RTS ), non serve controllare un’ intero esercito, ma piuttosto uno squadrone di dimensioni più ridotte, e non devi nemmeno più preoccuparti di costruire la tua base e raccogliere le risorse ” cibo, legno ecc” per sopravvivere. All’inizio di ciascuna azione infatti ricevi un certo numero di crediti, che puoi utilizzare quando ne avrai bisogno, per chiamare i soccorsi e i rinforzi per sostituirli alle perdite subite. World in Conflict non sarà il solito gioco, in cui la corsa allo sviluppo è di fondamentale importanza, ma piuttosto un vero e proprio gioco strategico, in cui bisogna vincere una guerra ricreata ad arte, che offre scenari ad altissimo livello di dettaglio grafico, ma soprattutto ambienti e soldati riprodotti fin ai minimi particolari. World in Conflict prevede 2 modalità di gioco, single e multy player, dove nel Single-Player combatti con gli USA contro l’ URSS sul fronte Americano e/o con la NATO su quello Europeo, mentre nel Multy-Player devi sciegliere chi essere tra le 3 superpotenze, e dopo averne scelto una, devi decidere quale gruppo gestire, tra unità aeree, corazzate, fanteria o rifornimento.

World in Conflict Demo Impressions

Okay so it’s a little late to be of use, the sale price on GamersGate was stopped yesterday (the reason why I played the demo), but I didn’t have enough time to have played and then written this up, hopefully there’ll be another good price at some point in the future and this will be of some use.

RTS’ were one of my favourite genres when I started gaming, the Age of Empires expansion had just been released and I had played the demo from a PC Gamer demo disc. I was so enthralled by it that we went down to Argos and I bought it there and then, unfortunately I was still pretty young (not to mention a little slow, but that’s still an issue…) and didn’t know what ‘Expansion Pack’ meant. It was only after leaving the shop that I realised you need the original game as well, so I despondently took it back (not that I’d have known what the word meant) and we carried on visiting the various shops. At the time there was a Dixons right next door, the kind of place I wouldn’t bother looking for games at now, but there it was sitting on the shelf, ‘Age of Empires: Gold Edition’. I never made it through most of the missions, I was just interested in the random skirmishes, and I had a lot of fun. Over the next few years I played several different RTS’, mostly demos but I did also buy quite a few; Homeworld, Star Trek Armada, Shogun Total War. I also branched out into city-building games like Caesar 3. Then the phase ended and I moved onto a brief dalliance with FPS’ before moving on again to RPGs. Since then I’ve never gone back to RTS’, there were one or two but never for very long. Then a few years ago I played the demo of Supreme Commander, and found myself well out of depth, I just couldn’t seem to get my head around the large-scale tactics.

I’ve gone on a little more than I’d planned but I should hopefully have convey my feelings towards the RTS genre, as I played this latest demo. I had heard about World in Conflict, my impressions were that it was the best RTS in recent years, but I had always skipped over any in-depth detail.

My first stop was the graphics menu, I had read that there were some quite high quality visuals (one of the early games that included DX10 support) so I thought it best to make sure they weren’t set to high. When I entered the menu I found the resolution was set a little low, and as I’ve got an LCD monitor you really should stick to the native resolution. Then, at the bottom I noticed a button ‘Run Benchmark’. Not many games allow benchmarks runs and most of those that do only enable it through a special command, I decided to give it a run. I was very impressed, the game loaded and it ran through a preset sequence that showed off some of the great smoke and explosion effects in the game, there was also a lot of terrain destruction. This test really put my system through its paces, along the side was an FPS bar which moved up and down throughout, I also had FRAPS running and the scores tallied the whole way. Then after the test was completed a little graph came up showing the FPS throughout the entire test. I should mention that this test really does aim for the upper limit of your system, and in most of my play after the FPS rarely got that low, nevertheless I thought this was a great feature as tailoring the graphics options in games can be really difficult, more developers should include a simple to use benchmark for players to use.

My next stop was the tutorial, whilst you never forget basic RTS skills once you have learnt them, some games have a lot of minor complexities to get used to. The training is run by a training instructor, even though they are often quite annoying this was a well done and the instructor managed to convey a reasonable amount of personality. More games should make a quick tutorial for those who know the basics, and just need to learn the intricacies of the particular game. The tutorials are split up into five sections, firstly was the always present camera controls, I didn’t like the scroll wheel controlling up and down much (I prefer zoom) but otherwise everything was present and responsive. The remaining tutorials covered movement, attacking, special attacks etc. This was the first time I had seen the game in real action, the last tutorial was particularly good as it allowed you to try out various out-of-map support you could call in, there were a group of vehicles parked near some residential housing. As the tactical support mainly covers explosives there was a lot of ‘collateral damage’, buildings explode to great effect and craters are left in the ground.

After the tutorials were concluded I started the campaign, after watching an introductory video that covers the main plot of the game (America is under attack by ‘commies’) and also gives a little background into the lives of those involved. Then the game moves into the first mission, having been beaten back by the surprisingly well coordinated invaders, the battle-group you are a part of must take back a small town in order to allow reinforcements in. I liked this setup, you are often the one in control of an entire area, and yet you don’t have access to the options you need to coordinate a large scale party, this way the logistics are taken care of and all you have to do is concentrate on your small group.

The first job was to place a deploy marker, this is where all of the units you call in will be deployed. At the start you are limited to a tiny corner of the map, then as the game progresses and you take more territory you can move the marker closer to the front lines. Rather than given a select group of units you are given command points to distribute between the equipment and men (and women) you need. If you lose any of these units, you gain back the points they cost so you never run out of units. You are also given a select number of extra units that are assigned to you, you cannot choose what these are.

As in all RTS’ you are given Main and Secondary Objectives, the secondary ones are not required but do give you bonus’. I won’t spoil the surprise of the secondary mission as it’s fairly interesting, the main objective was to take this area, I loaded up as many men as I could fit in the transports and moved them in. Soldiers can enter and hold buildings, these can be quite difficult to dislodge but fortunately most of these buildings were empty so I could make use of them.

Capture points are one or more circles that you need to occupy, if they are close together then that usually means you need to be holding both at the same time to capture the point. There wasn’t any in this mission but I could see this being great for defending your territory, beaten back from the one point you could concentrate your forces to hold the second. It’s hard to tell whether it was just the way I was playing, but I found the vehicles (bar the small transport) to be crucial in this game. Most vehicles have a special ability, the armoured transport for example can fire an anti-vehicle missile which makes it useful against more difficult targets. Plus it looks great in flight.

Once I had captured the two points a little icon with progress bar appeared nearby, if you can hold onto a point for long enough you automatically setup gun nests to help defend the area. After a small counter attack the area was clear and I got my next objective, like the small group in a larger force aspect I liked the fact that you keep getting objectives. It has been done in games before, but there was something about this implementation that felt more real, it made the whole area feel like it was part of the battle, it wasn’t just a matter of capturing the map and moving on.

My next objective was to move down the road and help take the front line, this part showed off the detail very well. I don’t know whether it’s just because I’ve been out of the loop for a while, but I found the attention to detail staggering, billboards, complicated roofs and streets, and all of it was destructible. We moved down the road, I placed my men in buildings once we got close to a point then sent my vehicles in to take the main brunt. Throughout this you hear radio chatter regarding the other commanders and their struggle.

From up here the town looks so small, and yet I can remember all the points I’ve been fighting in. After securing the front line all that remained was a small artillery group holding the local TV station, whilst the other commanders took the beach it was my job to go up round the back, and onto the hill then move in to take the station. I had also been given another extra unit (the first being several demolition teams I never used), a tank.

Through the game the terrain is changed due to explosions and gun fire, not to any huge extent but it does add to the atmosphere. Tracks are particularly nice, stretching back for quite a distance.

A group of enemy soldiers were particularly entrenched in a building, so I just had to destroy it completely. Buildings take damage over time until they finally explode in a huge cloud of debris. Now that we had secured the town we needed to defend it long enough for the reinforcements to arrive, unfortunately there was already an enemy force on it’s way and we’d have to setup defences. I was given the task of defending a supermarket. Sadly this is when the game crashed for me, I didn’t mind that much though, I had already made up my mind.

I’ve done several Demo Impressions over the last few months, going right back to my first proper article which was about Hinterland. I haven’t gone on to buy any of the games however, except Hinterland which was in a sale a few days later. I already had a price setup for this game though, £9.99 for the Complete Edition, I wasn’t sure so I played the demo and now this is the second game I have bought following a write-up. (Or rather preceding in this case.) I haven’t downloaded the game yet, the GamersGate site has been running a little slowly over the last few days and I’ve already got things on the go. But I shall enjoy this game once I get to playing it.

Would I recommend it? Yes, I would. The current cheapest price for the Complete Edition is a little over £12 at retail, I would probably have bought it at that price as well, but since I managed to buy it cheaper I’m not certain how I would have felt. It’s also likely to be on sale from one of the other digital distribution sites as well at some point in the future, and if it is I strongly recommend you get it, unless you really don’t like RTS’. For fans of the genre I would say this is a must buy, for everyone else I’d still probably recommend it although as always I suggest you try the demo first. You can download it from most of the usual sites, as well as through Steam.

Una estrategia diferente:

Estamos ante un juego de estrategia. De hecho, quizá este sea uno de los juegos de estrategia más realistas jamás creados aunque, precisamente por esto, podría echar para atrás a algunos puristas del género. Y es que en World in Conflict no existe la gestión de recursos. Aquí no hay que construir minas, ni edificios, ni fabricar tanques o infantería. Simplemente, al iniciar cada misión se nos dan las tropas con las que contamos, y debemos llevar a cabo la misión tan solo con ellas.

Por eso, ‘World in Conflict’ es un juego tremendamente táctico. Aquí no podemos permitirnos el lujo de perder soldados a la ligera, o crear grandes avanzadillas para enviarlas a ser masacradas por el enemigo, con la seguridad de que siempre podremos construir más si recolectamos más mineral (o lo que sea).

No, aquí estamos en una guerra realista, con un contingente limitado. Para superar cada misión debemos saber como mover a nuestras tropas: proteger a los blindados de los morteros, camuflar a nuestra infantería en zonas boscosas o dentro de edificios…

Realismo:
Otro de los puntos que llaman la atención de este juego es el realismo de la escala. Aquí no veremos edificios del tamaño de un tanque, o vehiculos del tamaño de un soldado. De hecho, las tropas de infantería enemiga, debido a su reducido tamaño, son tremendamente dificiles de ver a no ser que luchemos en campo abierto. Por tanto, cobra gran importancia el distribuir bien a nuestras unidades.

Asimismo, en ‘World in Conflict’ asistimos a la evolución de la “niebla de guerra”. Se acabo aquello de dejar a un peón escondido cerca de la base enemiga y poder ver todo su desarrollo. En este juego, cada unidad tiene un campo de visión, que se ve afectado por las elevaciones del terreno. Por tanto, si nuestras tropas están en lo alto de una colina, los blindados enemigos no podrán verlas. Y si además, estan camuflados entre los árboles, a nuestros enemigos les será casi imposible detectarnos.

Tanto las tropas como las distintas unidades pertenecen a unidades reales de armamento de la época. Además de las clásicas tropas de infantería, blindados y unidades aéreas, contaremos con multitud de ataques especiales, que van desde el bombardeo de un área concreta o el lanzamiento de napalm, hasta el arma más devastadora de todas: la bomba atómica.

El modo multijugador:
Los juegos de estrategia se hacen fuertes en el modo multijugador, y ‘World in Conclict’ no es una excepción. Como he dicho antes, en este juego no existe la gestión de recursos, así que olvidaos de construir unidades y edificios a toda velocidad, y pelear por los mejores yacimientos de minerales. Aquí se trata tan sólo de utilizar lo mejor posible las tropas disponibles para derrotar a nuestro enemigo.

El primer paso al comenzar una partida multijugador es elegir el bando (soviético o estadounidense) y el tipo de unidades que vamos a emplear: infantería, artillería, blindados, unidades aéreas… por supuesto, podremos comprar tropas de otras unidades, pero siempre nos saldrán más caras que las de la clase que hayamos elegido. Una vez iniciada la partida, debemos elegir un punto de despliegue para nuestra unidades. Se nos dará una cantidad de dinero a cada uno de los jugadores, que podremos canjear por las unidades que deseemos. Y ya solo queda esperar a que las unidades caigan literalmente del cielo, ya que son enviadas en paracaídas. No hay manera de conseguir más dinero, salvo que perdamos una unidad, en cuyo caso recuperaremos el dinero invertido y podremos pedir otra, esperando el tiempo correspondiente.

Otra de las ventajas del juego es que, en el modo multijugador, podemos formar equipos. Esto no significa tan sólo atacar juntos al enemigo, sino que podremos incluso sumar nuestros puntos de ataques especiales para acceder a los ataques más potentes, como la ya mencionada bomba atómica.

World in Conflict is a spectacular RTS game like never before. In fact, you can’t really call it an RTS game, cause it’s lacking the base-resource-attack routine. That’s why this awesome game feels so unique, for it not only presents the 1989 fictional cold-war’ish atmosphere in a superb way, it’s new strategy-action gameplay is fantastic.

Like I said, you don’t get to build bases, gather resources and create armies, instead, the game throws you directly into the battlefield, with options to reinforce and call artillery/air strikes and things like that. Furthermore, you can choose between 4 classes : Infantry, armor (tanks), support (artillery, repair vehicles) and air assault (helicopters).

All these classes have various types of units. Some normal, others with special abilities such as tanks who can throw smoke screens to stay conceived.

Anyways, the campaign tells us about Russia taking over Europe, almost succeeding, but then turning their attention to America, almost succeeding there as well. It’s a bit implausible that Russia could amass such numerous troops to take over most part of Europe and America, but the storytelling and cutscenes makes you forget about that..

You play in the campaign first as the Americans, who are shocked to see that Russia has invaded them, then you take a stroll through the past playing in Europe, aiding the NATO forces who in their turn, struggle against the Russians.

What’s disappointing about the game however, after you finish the mind-numbing and exciting campaign from the American’s point-of-view, is the fact that you can’t play as the Russians in single player.

In multiplayer however, things get a little more interesting. The plethora of maps, game modes and usually.. friendly community makes it an awesome experience. Isn’t it cool launching a nuke against the enemy in most rounds ? Yes it is !

You also earn medals for achievements you completed, ranks as well. So this ranking system will get you sucked into multiplayer for a while, but after you played each class, each map and earned most of the medals, you will finally get bored. But who knows, you might come back and experience the game again !

There’s no point in talking about the technical side. The graphics and sound effects are great. I’ve experienced no bugs, no crashes.

All and all, the game is a very interesting twist to the RTS world, the awesome campaign, and the long-lived multiplayer is great. I highly recommend you get it.

Soviet Assault para Pc nos encontraremos con un videojuego que esencialmente es el mismo que vimos en su momento en el año 2007, aunque con algunos añadidos de interés para aderezar la fórmula. En primer lugar cabe destacar que el añadido al modo historia consta exactamente de seis misiones desde el punto de vista ruso, que se alternan con las norteamericanas que compusieron el World in Conflict original.

En Soviet Assault conoceremos a nuevos personajes: El Coronel Orlovsky, el Capitán Malashenko, el Mayor Lebedjev y el Lugarteniente Romanov, encarnado por el jugador.

La historia volverá a ser una complejísima situación de acontecimientos, batallas salvajes y cruentos enfrentamientos en los que presenciaremos 10 cinemáticas que sumarán en total algo más de 15 minutos de historia al conjunto, para descubrir el fascinante “otro lado” de World in Conflict.

¡Liberación!, Cosecha, Insurgentes, Ataque Relámpago, Por la Madre Patria y Fratricida son sus nombres, y ofrecen el clásico estilo Made-In Massive Entertainment que tanto popularizó su precursor. De este modo encontraremos encargos de infiltración, asalto o defensa en los que sacar partido a las unidades con las que contamos de salida y a la gestión de los escasos recursos con los que contaremos y a los que podremos dar salida en forma de refuerzos o apoyo de artillería.

En las seis misiones de Soviet Assault visitaremos lugares como Berlín, Noruega, la propia Rusia o la América profunda.

En términos de control Soviet Assault vuelve a apostar por el estilo directo e intuitivo del original, y se suma una vez más a un manejo y empleo de cámara que perfectamente podría pasar por el de un shooter en primera persona. Por su parte las unidades soviéticas son enteramente diferentes en su aspecto exterior, aunque en términos generales responden a patrones muy similares de estilo, movilidad y poder ofensivo a las que ya pudimos ver con los estadounidenses hace un par de años. Silahını seç ve en çevik RTS’ye başla.

Massive Entertainment’in, hepimizin bildiği kalıplar içerisinde bir RTS yapmadığı açıkça belli. World in Conflict, U.S. ile S.S.C.B. arasındaki soğuk savaşı bu oyunda çözecek gibi gözüküyor.

Yayınlanan oyun içi videolarına göre, bu kadar bol aksiyon içeren bir RTS ile henüz karşılaşmamıştık. Haritanın her köşesinde bir aksiyon, deyim yerindeyse bir bir savaş karmaşıklığı var. Ağaçların arasından çıkagelen piyadeler, tepenizde dolanan ve silahlarını hazırda bekleten helikopterler, roketlerini dolduran tanklar, yıkık sokakların arasında saklanan düşman Adeta nefes almak için vaktiniz yok. Savaş oyunlarında klasikleşen “bir adım önünüzde” gerçekleşen patlamalar ve havalarda uçuşan el bombaları da bu kaos ortamına büyük etki ediyor. Eğer kıyamet 1989 yılında gerçekleşseydi büyük ihtimal World in Conflict’deki sahnelere benzer sahneler yaşanırdı diyebiliriz.

MULTIPLAYER:

World of Conflict’in multiplayer oynama özelliği klasik RTS’lerdeki gibi ordu kur – yönet – mouse’un sol tuşuna bas mantığından sıyrılıyor Oyundaki tüm oyuncular her üniteye her birime ve her yapıya sahip oluyor böylece birebir savaşlarda tam teçhizatla savaşıyorsunuz. Ordu kur – savaş mantığından ziyade strateji belirlemek yeterli geliyor. Az askere sahip olup da akıllıca bir stratejiyle sayısız askeri son yolculuğuna uğurlayabiliyorsunuz.

EKİP, TOPLANIN

Oyundaki en önemli stratejilerinizden biri takım çalışması olmak zorunda. Bir düzine asker ve birkaç sağlam tank ile akıllı bir saldırı yapmak varken “şu 3 asker önden gitsin ne kadar adam alırsa kârdır” mantığı bizlere sadece askerlerin cesedini kazandıracaktır. Ayrıca oyunda zırhlı ünitelerin komutanları, tek başına kafasına göre ilerleyemeyecek zira kendi ünitesinden bir tank infilak ettiğinde kendini savunması imkansız durumda. Oyunda müttefik güçlerin önemi oldukça fazla. Onlar olmadan tek başınıza koskoca ordulara direnmeniz bir hayli zor. Daha önce de dediğimiz gibi, başarının altın sırrı takım çalışmasında.

Kıdemli RTS oyuncuları için bile bu oyunda öğrenecekleri çok şey mevcut. Düşman ünitelerin ordusunu analiz etmeye ve düşman üssünü işgal etmeye konsantre olunmuşken World in Conflict, savaşı ayakta tutmayı başarıyor ve planlanmadan, amatörce yapılan saldırılarda ordunuzu kaybetmekle kalmıyorsunuz, aynı zamanda kendi üssünüzü de kaybediyorsunuz. Zira üzerine düzinelerce ünitenin yağdığını gören düşman, ya müttefiğine ya da uzaklarda bir birliğine sizin üssünüzü işgal etmelerini söylüyor. Bu yüzden stratejinizi çok iyi planlamanız gerekir.

Oyun esnasında kimi yerlerde kalabalık savaşlar gördüğünüz zaman hiç bu savaşa girmeyip kendi başınıza bir yol çizebilirsiniz. Farklı bir görev ile ilerleyip amacınıza ulaşmak da mümkün. Fakat söylemek zorundayız ki savaşmayı tercih etmezseniz çok sıkıcı görevler sizleri bekliyor.

Gelmiş geçmiş en hızlı oynanan, hareketin bir an bile durmadığı en seri RTS ünvanına aday olan World in Conflict, bu seneki RTS oyun piyasasına büyük soluk getireceği kesin. Özellikle Supreme Commander’ın yeni oyunu da kapıdayken RTS severler için güzel günler geliyor.

Ubisoft have just confirmed that the game, World In Conflict: Soviet Assault, slated for release for both the PS3 and 360, has just been canceled. Well, not exactly. The game is still releasing for the PC. A Ubisoft rep specifically had this to say :

“World of Conflict: Soviet Assault will be released for the PC later this month. A console version of World in Conflict is not planned for release at this time.”
