Iran’s government has approved plans to build 10 new uranium enrichment plants, according to state media.

The government told the Iranian nuclear agency to begin work on five sites, with five more to be located over the next two months.

It comes days after the UN nuclear watchdog rebuked Iran for covering up a uranium enrichment plant.

The White House said the move was “yet another serious violation of Iran’s clear obligations”.

Meanwhile, Britain described the news as “a matter of serious concern” and potentially a “deliberate breach” of UN resolutions.

Western powers say Iran is trying to develop nuclear arms. Iran says its nuclear programme is peaceful.

The country insists it is only doing what is allowed under the nuclear non-proliferation treaty.

But a UK Foreign Office spokesman said: “Reports that Iran is considering building more enrichment facilities are clearly a matter of serious concern.

“It would be a deliberate breach of five UN security council resolutions. We will need to consider our response.”

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said in a statement: “If true, this would be yet another serious violation of Iran’s clear obligations under multiple UN Security Council resolutions and another example of Iran choosing to isolate itself.

“Time is running out for Iran to address the international community’s growing concerns about its nuclear programme.”

A powerful homemade bomb sent a high-speed Moscow-to-St. Petersburg train careening off its tracks, Russian officials said Saturday, killing at least 26 people in what officials consider an act of terrorism.

The head of Russia’s Federal Security Service, Alexander Bortnikov, said experts found pieces of an explosive device that detonated around 9:30 Friday night as the train raced over it, gouging a five-foot crater and strewing smoking wreckage over a rural stretch of track. He said a terrorism inquiry had been opened.

As many as 100 people were left injured by the disaster, officials said, and 18 remained missing Saturday night.

“Indeed, this was a terrorist attack,” said Vladimir Markin, a spokesman for the investigative committee of Russia’s General Prosecutor’s Office, according to Interfaxe. Bortnikov said the bomb exploded with a force equivalent to 15 pounds of TNT.

The attack on the Nevsky Express, a luxury train popular with government officials, tourists and business executives, was Russia’s deadliest terrorist strike outside the volatile North Caucasus region since 2004.

Among the dead were citizens of Belgium, Italy and Azerbaijan, Governor Valentina Matvienko of St. Petersburg told the state-run RIA Novosti news agency.

The force of the derailment scattered battered carriages over a remote stretch of track, trapping some of the injured for hours. By first light Saturday, luggage and pieces of metal lay in the muddy embankment in the drizzle, as survivors huddled under blankets by fires.

A second explosive device partially detonated at the crash site later Saturday as railway workers tried to clear the debris, said Russian Railways chief Vladimir Yakunin.

The initial blast derailed the last three carriages of the 14-car Nevsky Express as it approached speeds of 200 kilometres per hour, officials said. More than 650 passengers and crew were aboard at the time.

The crash occurred near the border of the Novgorod and Tver provinces, some 400 kilometres northwest of Moscow and 250 kilometres southeast of St. Petersburg.

As rescue workers searched for victims, officials provided sometimes conflicting numbers for the dead and injured.

Health Minister Tatyana Golikova said at least 26 people were killed, 18 were missing and nearly 100 injured in the derailment. The Prosecutor General’s office said the death toll had risen to 30, with 60 others in the hospital.

As of Saturday evening, there were no credible claims of responsibility. But sketches were being composed of several suspects, Interior Ministry chief Rashid Nurgaliyev told Interfax, including of a man of about 40 with red hair.

Witnesses said the train left the tracks after a loud explosion.

“It was immensely scary. I think it was an act of terrorism because there was a bang,” passenger Vitaly Rafikov told the state-run Channel One television network. He said he helped haul victims from the battered carriages and lit fires to keep them warm.

Passenger Igor Pechnikov was in the second of the train’s three derailed cars. “A trembling began, and the carriage jolted violently to the left. I flew half way down the car,” he said.

The injured were transported to hospitals in Moscow and St. Petersburg by bus, train and even helicopters, but some said the evacuation was agonizingly slow.

Yekaterina Ivanova, a wounded passenger, told the NTV television network that workers took at least four hours to free her from the wreck.

“In the hospital, the doctors are better, the medical teams are working in harmony,” she said. “The young people from the Ministry of Emergency Situations carried us out on stretchers, but other people in uniform were just standing there and staring, and no one was even helping to carry out the wounded.”

in the crash of the Nevsky Express train on the evening of November 27.
     “Sergei  Borisovich  [Tarasov] was killed on the spot, and his body
was found  later.  In  addition,  the  death  of  Rosreserve chief Boris
Yevstratikov has also been confirmed,” Matviyenko told journalists.
     Matviyenko     expressed   her   condolences   to   Tarasov’s   and
Yevstratikov’s  relatives and beloved ones. “This is our common pain and
common loss,” she said.

Frankly, I cannot believe that I have to write the words that follow. I just learned that Martin Armstrong is being moved, possibly as early as Monday, from his current holding facility to a much higher security facility, MDC Brooklyn, which is similar to the facility he was in when he was in solitary confinement and where he was beaten nearly to death! This goes against the prison’s own rules and is against the law as he has two Habeas cases open in the Supreme Court.

Why would this be happening now with a little more than a year before he is eligible for parole? I and others contend that it is because of his recent writing activity and because of his recent interview with the New Yorker Magazine (The New Yorker – “The Secret Cycle…”), and also because there are now several media outlets requesting to do interviews with him – the prison simply does not want, for whatever reason, the access that we have been enjoying lately to continue. I spoke directly to Martin’s younger sister, Nancy, and this is her opinion as well. She is very upset over this move as she, “fears that he may not make it out.” She claims that Martin is very much afraid of this move and for good reason…

Barack Obama issues new Afghanistan military orders…

 Tuesday evening most of America will be tuning in on all the networks to hear and see President Obama lay out his strategy in moving forward in the Afghanistan War. Many reports circulating that President Obama will surge with 30,000 more U.S. Soldiers that will put American forces over 100,000 in Afghanistan. For the most part it appears getting the populated cities and towns in and around Taliban strongholds back into control of the coalition and allow the Karzai government to get its foot hold outside of Kabul and in the southern provinces of Afghanistan. We need support from our allies on this critical endeavor to rid Muslim extremists from having a nation state base to carry out terrorist attacks on civilians around the world so as President Obama is speaking tomorrow the call is going out to our allies to also send troops to help pacify Afghanistan. More after tomorrow’s speech at the Army West Point Academy which I believe should be carried by all the networks so every American can see and hear what the President has decided to do in the eight year running war in Afghanistan.

Despite its strict censorship laws and recent political snafus, China is expected to claim half the world’s online gaming market by 2012, according to a story in last week’s Wall Street Journal [via Massively.com]. In just a little more than one year, China’s total revenue from online gaming—MMOs or otherwise—will reach 41 billion yuan ($6 billion), reported by the Beijing-based data analysis firm, Cnzz.com. This may come as no surprise if you’ve been following the global market trends, but the Chinese government’s seemingly oppositional stance regarding online gaming might have inferred the opposite. As we reported last month, the ongoing power struggle between two PRC agencies left Chinese gamers caught in the middle; World of Warcraft, for example, still isn’t available in mainland China.

Nonetheless, online gaming—as a whole—is on the rise. “Two-thirds of China’s 338 million Web users are now online gamers,” according to the WSJ’s article. “The online-game industry, which currently accounts for more than half of the total Internet economy, will see strong annual growth at a rate of 20% future years, the report says.” MMOs still account for the majority of China’s online gaming market, but Web- and browser-based games follow closely in second place. The WSJ notes that despite the Chinese market’s loss of WoW, other MMOs like Aion are beginning to fill that void. In fact, China is likely to pull ahead of the U.S. online gaming market by the end of this year, as the newspaper reported last spring.

WASHINGTON — President Obama has issued his order to send more troops to Afghanistan, communicating his decision to military leaders late Sunday afternoon during a meeting in the Oval Office, and will spend Monday speaking with foreign leaders to share with them the broad outlines of his new strategy, the White House said.

“The commander-in-chief has issued the orders,” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters at the White House at the outset of what will be a two-day effort to sell the new strategy to the American people, Congress and American allies.

Mr. Gibbs did not provide a precise figure for the new level of forces, although senior advisers to the president have said Mr. Obama intends to commit roughly 30,000 more troops. After weeks of intense deliberation, Mr. Obama plans to share his strategy with the American people Tuesday evening in a speech at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Swiss voters appear to support a controversial ban on new minarets at mosques — sparking outrage from Islamic groups.

Partial election returns from Sunday afternoon showed that 59 % of voters backed the right-wing plan to outlaw new construction of the distinctive mosque towers, according to projections from a leading polling institute.

Polls before the election showed just 37 % support for the proposal, which was backed by the nationalist Swiss People’s Party, the country’s largest party.

Taner Hatipoglu, president of the Federation of Islamic Organizations in Zurich, said the vote appeared to achieve “something everyone wanted to prevent” and added that if the anti-Islam sentiment continues “Muslims indeed will not feel safe anymore.”

The proposal is part of a growing anti-Islamic backlash in Europe and has stoked fears of violent reactions in Muslim countries.

Some Swiss leaders are also concerned the move could spark an economically disastrous boycott by wealthy Muslims who bank, shop and vacation in Switzerland.

In the lead-up to the election, Swiss People’s Party officials argued that minarets – which are used in most countries for calls to prayer – are symbols of rising Muslim power that could eventually turn Switzerland into an Islamic nation.

Campaign posters show minarets rising like missiles from the Swiss flag next to a fully veiled woman.

“Forced marriages and other things like cemeteries separating the pure and impure – we don’t have that in Switzerland, and we do not want to introduce it,” said Ulrich Schlueer, co-president of the Initiative Committee to ban minarets.

Before the vote, Swiss government leaders spoke out strongly against the initiative, which will not affect the four minarets already attached to mosques in the country.

Muslims make up about 6 % of Switzerland’s 7.5 million people and fewer than 13 % practice their religion, according to government estimates.

Many Swiss Muslims are refugees from the Yugoslav wars of the 1990s.

Swiss mosques do not broadcast the call to prayer outside their buildings.

How were the hijackers able to gain access to the cockpit, remove the pilots, and navigate the aircraft to the Pentagon if the Flight Deck Door remained closed?[3]

Voters in Switzerland chose to take a step in the direction of Nazi Germany, and collectively decided to restrict and to persecute Islam and the religious practices required by those who are Islamic.

The BBC is reporting from Geneva,Switzerland that in a vote that displayed a widespread anxiety about Islam and undermined the country’s reputation for religious tolerance, the Swiss on Sunday overwhelmingly imposed a national ban on the construction of minarets, the prayer towers of mosques, in a referendum drawn up by the far right and opposed by the government.

Swiss voters’ clear decision on Sunday to ban the construction of minarets has generated a wide range of emotions,supporters of the initiative said the Swiss electorate wanted to put a brake on the Islamization of their country, whereas opponents were concerned about the violation of rights, not to mention an international backlash and possible boycott of Swiss products.

Amnesty International has expressed deep regret over the Swiss voters’ approval of a ban on minarets, calling it a violation of religious freedom for Muslims.

“The ‘yes’ vote comes as a surprise and a great disappointment,” David Diaz-Jogeix, Amnesty International’s deputy program director for Europe and Central Asia, said on Monday.

The Swiss Constitution guarantees freedom of religion, but the rightist Swiss People’s Party, or S.V.P., and a small religious party had proposed inserting a single sentence banning the construction of minarets, leading to the referendum.

The Swiss government said it would respect the vote and sought to reassure the Muslim population — mostly immigrants from other parts of Europe, like Kosovo and Turkey — that the minaret ban was “not a rejection of the Muslim community, religion or culture.”

The president of the People’s Party, Toni Brunner, said voters had clearly rejected the idea of parallel societies and the further expansion of Islam – including radical, political Islam – in Switzerland.

Saida Keller-Messahli, president of the Forum for an Advanced Islam, said the public’s fears had been too great and “hatred had won over reason”.

She said there would now be legal consequences, since the ban violated the freedom of religion.

The Federation of Islamic Organisations in Switzerland also regretted the result, saying the propaganda of the campaign supporters had succeeded in frightening the majority of voters.

The federation said it was too soon to judge the negative social and legal consequences – what was important now was to strengthen their public relations and clear up any misunderstandings or prejudices concerning Islam.

“Switzerland is heading straight for a battle with Islam,” he said, adding that he feared a boycott of Swiss products.

The ban on minarets’ violates the right of Muslims to manifest their religion in Switzerland, and is incompatible with the international conventions signed by the European country.

It is to note that this is similar to the way that Nazi Germany, under the rule of Hitler, was able to gradually assert their main agenda, which was to exterminate the Jewish religion and all those who practice it.

It appears as though the Islamic citizens of Switzerland need to prepare for similar treatment, and mounting restrictions on the practice of their religion.

Minimum penalty is life in jail, under anti-homosexuality bill

As a gay Ugandan, Frank Mugisha has endured insults from strangers, hate messages on his phone, police harassment and being outed in a tabloid as one of the country’s “top homos”. That may soon seem like the good old days.

Life imprisonment is the minimum punishment for anyone convicted of having gay sex, under an anti-homosexuality bill currently before Uganda’s parliament. If the accused person is HIV positive or a serial offender, or a “person of authority” over the other partner, or if the “victim” is under 18, a conviction will result in the death penalty.

Members of the public are obliged to report any homosexual activity to police with 24 hours or risk up to three years in jail – a scenario that human rights campaigners say will result in a witchhunt.Ugandans breaking the new law abroad will be subject to extradition requests.

“The bill is haunting us,” said Mugisha, 25, chairman of Sexual Minorities Uganda, a coalition of local lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex groups that will all be banned under the law. “If this passes we will have to leave the country.”

Human rights groups within and outside Uganda have condemned the proposed legislation, which is designed to strengthen colonial-era laws that already criminalise gay sex. The issue threatened to overshadow the Commonwealth heads of government meeting that ended in Trinidad and Tobagotoday, with the UK and Canada both expressing strong concerns. Ahead of the meeting Stephen Lewis, a former UN envoy on Aids in Africa, said the law “makes a mockery of Commonwealth principles” and has “a taste of fascism” about it.

But within Uganda deeply-rooted homophobia, aided by a US-linked evangelical campaign alleging that gay men are trying to “recruit” schoolchildren, and that homosexuality is a habit that can be “cured”, has ensured widespread public support for the bill.

President Yoweri Museveni appeared to add his backing earlier this month, warning youths in Kampala that he had heard that “European homosexuals are recruiting in Africa”, and saying gay relationships were against God’s will.

“We used to say Mr and Mrs, but now it is Mr and Mr. What is that now?” he said. In a interview with the Guardian, James Nsaba Buturo, the minister of state for ethics and integrity, said the government was determined to pass the legislation, ideally before the end of 2009, even if meant withdrawing from international treaties and conventions such as the UN’s Universal Declaration on Human Rights, and foregoing donor funding.

“We are talking about anal sex. Not even animals do that,” Butoro said, adding that he was personally caring for six “former homosexuals” who had been traumatised by the experience. “We believe there are limits to human rights.”

Homosexuality has always been a taboo subject in Uganda, and is considered by many to be an affront both to local culture and religion, which plays a strong role in family life. This negative stigma and the real threat of job loss means that no public personality has ever “come out”.

Even local HIV campaigns – which have been heavily influenced by the evangelical church with a bias towards abstinence over condom use – have deliberately avoided targeting gay men for both prevention and access to treatment.

“This means many gay men here think Aids is a non-issue, which is so dangerous,” said Mugisha, who together with a few colleagues, has risked arrest by agitating in recent years for a change in the HIV policy.

At the same time, some influential religious leaders have warned about the dangers of accepting liberal western attitudes towards homosexuality.

Both opponents and supporters agree that the impetus for the bill came in March during a seminar in Kampala to “expose the truth behind homosexuality and the homosexual agenda”.

The main speakers were three US evangelists: Scott Lively, Don Schmierer and Caleb Lee Brundidge. Lively is a noted anti-gay activist and president of Defend the Family International, a conservative Christian association, while Schmierer is an author who works with “homosexual recovery groups”. Brundidge is a “sexual reorientation coach” at the International Healing Foundation.

The seminar was organised by Stephen Langa, a Ugandan electrician turned pastor who runs the Family Life Network in Kampala and has been spreading the message that gays are targeting schoolchildren for “conversion”. “They give money to children to recruit schoolmates – once you have two children, the whole school is gone,” he said in an interview. Asked if there had been any court case to prove this was happening, he replied: “No, that’s why this law is needed.”

After the conference Langa arranged for a petition signed by thousands of concerned parents to be delivered to parliament in April. Within a few months the bill had been drawn up.

Christopher Senyonjo, a retired Anglican bishop, said the bill would push Uganda towards being a police state. “This law is being influenced by some evangelicals abroad,” he said. “There’s a lack of understanding about homosexuality – it’s not recruitment, it’s orientation.”

But among religious leaders of all faiths his is a rare voice. Langa, the pastor, said the only thing lacking in the legislation was a clause for “rehabilitation” of homosexuals, whom he “loves” and wants to help. Gay rights had the potential to destroy civilisation, as the west could soon find out, he said.

“As one parent told me: ‘We would rather live in grass huts with our morality than in skyscrapers among homosexuals’.”

Editor’s Comment: Although this is coming from the Christians, at least they are moving in the right direction, back towards Allah’s laws when it comes to homosexuality and its punishment.

May Allah grant them guidance, and bring them into the fold of Islam, if only they could see the disgusting homosexuality of many of the Christian priests we could maybe use this as a tool, as leverage to show them their beliefs on Christianity are wrong and to bring them into Islam – Allah willing.
