Have you ever bumped into a colleague outside of work?  I’m not sure about you, but it often feels awfully weird when that happens to me because I struggle to come up with something relevant to say.

Why is this?  Am I unique this way?  I’m not sure, but in my case, I think the discomfiture stems from the fact in my mind, there’s the office me and the home me.  And these alter-egos live in universes that do not collide…ordinarily.  So naturally when there is a merging of the two, it’s odd for me.

For those Seinfeld fans out there, this mode of thinking reminded of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer eloquently describes George’s worlds in which there’s Relationship George and the Fun George.

 Apocalyptica is a Finnish rock band from Helsinki, Finland, formed in 1993. The band is composed of classically trained cellists and, since 2003, a drummer. Three of the cellists are graduates of the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. Their music features elements from classical music, neo-classical metal, symphonic metal and thrash metal.

＜Worlds Collide＞は典型的なダークでメランコリックなメロディーのタイトル曲から始まり、多彩なゲストを迎えて充実した内容に仕上がっています。始めてギターの旋律が入った＜Grace＞は布袋寅泰が参加。先行シングル＜I’m Not Jesus＞はインダストリアルなへヴィ・メタル。ヴォーカルのコリィ・テイラー（Slipknot ）が素晴らしい。デンジャラスなダークな世界を歌いきっている。＜Helden＞はデヴィッド・ボウイの＜Heroes＞のカヴァー曲。ドイツのインダストリアル・バンド（Rammstein ）のシンガー・ティル・リンデマンのドイツ語は分かりませんが、未来戦争を想起させるエモーショナル＆ミステリアスなブラック・メタルというところ。さらにアルバムのハイライトというべき＜Last Hope＞。ほんとにチェロ？と疑いたくなるほどの凄まじいヘヴィーな曲。重層＆複雑な曲構成と迷路を疾走するような強烈なスピード・メタル。＜I Don’t Care＞は物悲しいチェロの響きに導かれて始まるへヴィー・ロック・クラシカル。ヴォーカルはアダム・ゴンティア（Three Days Grace ）ヒット性が感じられる素晴らしい曲です。＜S.O.S.＞チェロはゴシックメタルに良く似合う。重厚でナチュラルで物悲しい。ヴォーカルはクリスティーナ・スカビア（Lacuna Coil ）ドラマティックでありながら沈痛な切なさ。悲しみの美。アルバムラストは重厚な＜Peace＞クラシックの品の良さとメタルの様式美が融合。暗いフィンランドの物憂げな空を流れる張り詰めたテンションの清浄な響き。

Business and Social Media – When Worlds Collide

About 2 years ago there I am listening to one of those casually dressed internet guru types tell me how social media is going to change my world. “Nothing will be the same. It will change business forever!” I thought to myself (insert sarcastic tone) Oh great because I just love the fact that when my blackberry goes off at 10 at night people think I should gleefully answer it. In the mean time my company’s Chief Marketing Officer is going on and on about the impending revolution, about communities, and open communication. Blithering on about what it means to our business.

Me I’m not a high ranking kind of guy. My role in life is more akin to that of the chief cook and bottle washer type. But I live in the tech world so new technology isn’t all that scary to me. At that point admittedly I’d been on Linked In for several years and My Space for a bit. One kept me in touch with a world filled with my professional contacts which made perfect sense. In sales and business it’s not always what you know, but who you know. On the other site let’s just admit I was an online loser. I had my dad, my sister, wife, one daughter, and host of bands, film makers and comedians who wanted to be my friend but no one real. The horrible flash backs to life as an unpopular nerdy boy in grade school aside I continued on. Had my first experience with social media been a singles bar not only would I be going home alone but my buddies would have ditched me, leaving me in a questionable neighborhood with no money and no ride. Fortunately for me it was just the internet.

So, like a good soldier I listened. I ran out to sign up for Facebook, bought a copy of the Clue Train Manifesto (which I am sure buying anything with the word manifesto in it puts you on some type of government watch list)and Wikinomics and waited for my professional life to start a Groundswell and take on a highly profitable cyber fueled virtual life of its own.

This time around I added a few people I knew from work and my friends list grew modestly, then I joined a few networks, and it grew a little more. Over time a few vendors found me, then a few customers. It looked like anything else you get out what you put into it unless you had a really hot picture of yourself. Amazingly enough even on the internet a guy in blue polo isn’t considered excessively hot even if he leaves his pocket protector at home.

Being reclusive I did my best to ignore the application invites. Things like join my mob, send me a drink and other nonsense seemed like a frivolous waste of time at this point in life. Then it happened a few college friends added me. Then a few more. Sometimes it felt great to hear from them yet other times it was a why in the world do I care what they are doing now moments. Bus still I accepted their requests no reason to be rude. A few Ex girlfriends came by to say hi. I’m older, wiser, more worldly so why would I care. It’s harmless right?

Besides time has been kind to me, I have a pretty great life. And that’s when it hit me do I really want the girl I liked in kindergarten to know what my customers are saying and more importantly do I want my business associates, customers, and co workers to know anything about my past based on comments from people who knew me when I was young, dumb, and awkward.

There’s not much that I hide from but the thought of me in a hideous suit my mother made me wear for school pictures as 12 year old might be one of them, there was the one wild weekend at college when I looked like John Belushi on a bender that was not indicative of my studious book worm nature, or worse yet me and my assortment of other dweeb friends playing Dungeons and Dragons on a perfectly lovely Friday night in 1985. Yes I played D&D and I looked exactly like the stereo typical guy who played D&D did. So my worlds collided but just a little at a time. Is Facebook the root of all evil? Time will tell. Will our culture become ubiquitous, open and tolerant of the teenage geek turned married professional? The ugly duckling turned into the proverbial swan, maybe but it’s unlikely. Most of all do I want to prove to the guy who beat me up in the 5th grade that his inclinations about me were indisputably correct three decades later and that I am in fact a geek.

NO! People still tell me every day that social media is going to change the world. That business and life are bound to become inexplicably linked. To which I say thanks but no thanks. The business hasn’t come rolling in. Social Media might be a great way to go if you’re hawking get rich quick schemes or connecting with already established customers but at the moment I’m not finding wild and new exotic markets and customers to sell to and in turn they are not finding me either. With all the great things the internet has brought into my life social media just isn’t one of them. So call me old fashioned but I’m just happy I can order books on Amazon at a discount, get free shipping, and not pay sales tax…for now.

Now If you’ll excuse me I’m off to upload more pictures of my flower gardens so more people can poke fun at me. On the upside it’ll make my mother happy. Then I’m off to call write on my favorite DM’s wall.

And don’t cry for Colbert if NASA uses its regulations to thwart him. He’s already managed to get his name attached to an ice cream flavor, a Hungarian bridge and an eagle, to name a few.

On average, the price of running the mission Worlds Collide seems to be a ship.

I don’t lose a ship every time.  But then sometimes I lose two ships.  Sometimes somebody else joins me for the mission and loses a ship for me.

The average might even be higher than one ship per run for me.  It was the first ever mission I drew after I ran the old tutorial and I tried to run it in an Ibis over and over again all the while thinking, “Why would they give me this as my first mission if it was impossible to run in my first ship?”

Because this is EVE.

I was in game on Sunday morning to clear out a mission Potshot and I had run on Saturday night.  It had lots of nice, if awkwardly located, veldspar asteroids, so we decided to see if we could clear and farm it again.  Unfortunately, when I warped out to the first gate, it was gone.

So much for that idea.

Thus thwarted, I turned in the mission sans early bonus, and asked for the next one.

I drew Worlds Collide.

It had been some time since I had last run it, so the memories (and scars) had faded a bit.  I just remembered that the bounties and the salvage were both excellent, so what the hell.

I got out the Raven to lead and my alt in his Drake for support and headed out for that long flight to unlock the first gates.

As I was working on the first group, Potshot showed up and, with no mining going on, loaded up his own pair of Drakes and headed out to join me.

“With a Raven and three Drakes,” I said, “It will be cake.”

We cleared the gate guardians, then headed into the Sansha pocket.  The pocket of doom.  The pocket of so many lost ships.

Things went well at first.  The Raven warped in, picked up aggro, started heading to a neutral corner to avoid waking up the rest of the pocket, called everybody else in, and started in on the first battleships.

The battleships were easy and we were left with the two webbing frigates.  I decided to swat them, having read somewhere that if the first person into the pocket attacks them, the whole pocket does not go red.

So I targeted them on both of my ships and promptly started launching missiles from the wrong window.

The whole pocket lit up and targeted the Drake.

Crap.

Well, the Drake has a good tank.  It might last until we thin this crowd out a bit.  And, if not, I’ll just have him warp out.

The Drake’s tank is good, but not that good.  The ships in that first Sansha pocket put out a lot of firepower.  The Drake went to half shields in disturbingly quick order.

I aligned the Drake with a station then, seeing the shields continue to drop to 25%, went to warp away.

And that is when I noticed that three ships were web scrambling the Drake.  I targeted both of my ships for the offending scramblers and had almost killed the second one when the Drake disintegrated and my alt was sitting there in a pod.  I sent him off for home to look for another Drake hull and went back to the battle.

All the webbers and scramblers were down, but things were not looking good.  Everybody was now on the Raven and the incoming fire was eating up shields and capacitor.  I knew we would have to pull out soon.

So I gave the word to retrieve drones and align with the local station.  After I took down one last NPC, I gave the word to warp out.

Back at the station I put together a minimalist Drake for my alt so I could jump him into the second pocket and have him loot his wreck.  I outfitted him with some shield modules I had around and a tractor beam.

I also passed out some ammo for the last pocket.  I went into the mission with all EM and Thermal loads, forgetting that the last pocket is a serious issue unless you are dropping kinetic rounds on them.

We warped back out, flew to the gate, and started in on the Sansha pocket again.  This time things went much more smoothly.  We took things one group at a time.  My alt snagged his wreck and I was happy to find most of his tech II heavy missile launchers intact along with some of this other gear.  Enough to equip him and get him back in the game.  I warped him back to refit and rejoin while we peeled back the Sansha battleships.

We cleared the pocket and I called a break to salvage.  That meant the salvage destroyer for me and Potshot’s hauler to carry off the big items.  The destroyer can scoot about pretty well and when I run out of cargo space I use one of the tractor beams to tow a jet can.  We cleaned up, there being two major disappointments.

The first was that I got no salvage from the wreck of the Drake.  Nothing.

The second is that we did not draw a single ward console in any of our salvage attempts.  I have not seen a ward console drop from salvage in quite a while.  They are one of the components for shield rigs, and I could obviously use a few now.

Maybe next time.

The clean up accomplished, we headed back to the station, got out the four warships, and headed for the last pocket.

The last pocket went very smoothly.  The Raven warped in, got aggro, then called in the troops.  We deployed in classic trail formation, looking like a fleet formation from the age of sail, and took down the hostiles one by one.  I designated targets and we popped them easily, kinetic rounds being just the thing for this part of the mission.

Then it was clean up time.  Out came the salvage destroyer again.  Potshot pulled out his mining rig to clean up some asteroids lurking in the last pocket.

I was able to turn in the mission well within the bonus time frame.  In a sign of how this mission often goes, they give you 7 hours to complete it.

Now I have to go finish fitting out a new Drake.

Bienvenidos a nuestra primer batalla de WoCo aqui en Rol Rockz, si todo va bien (y la que escribe tiene tiempo ) tal vez hasta se hagan más en un futuro

¿De que rayos estas hablando?… Te preguntarás.

Bien, la premisa es sencilla, nosotros en Rol Rockz tenemos cientos de personajes geniales con historias originales y entretenidas, el problema es que muchas veces no podemos interactuar por que sus mundos son muy diferentes, además de que nos dejamos guiar por el canon de nuestras historias para mantener así el orden y a nuestros personajes in character all the time (tal y como debe de ser ), o simplemente el roler de tal o cual personaje esta ocupado y no puede sacar a pasear a su personaje tanto como quisiera (por más que nosotros quisieramos tener una charla con él), también puede ser que admiremos mucho como alguna persona lleva su personaje pero tenemos temor de entablar un rol con ellos, o hablarle así como así… ¿ya voy captando su atención?…

Lo que quiero decir es que nuestros mundos dan para muchas grandes historias (y muchas veces hasta las pensamos) pero jamás llegamos a desarrollarlas, las dejamos en simples sueños, y eso no debería de ser así!, deberiamos poder divertirnos más y tener más aventuras con nuestros personajes.

Así que la cosa va así: De lo que esta batalla se trata es de escribir tantos drabbles* como sea posible cruzando la mayor cantidad de fandoms, mundos y personajes como se nos ocurran. Animo! todos roleamos, todos podemos escribir pequeñas historias de 100 palabritas! además todos tenemos historias al respecto por ahi escondidas!, confio en ustedes compañeros

Las indicaciones son las siguientes:

1. Comenta en esta entrada (si ahi donde dice deja un comentario, deja un comentario!) diciendo que personaje eres (si tienes más de un personaje puedes hacer diferentes comments, cada uno solicitando algo diferente)

2. Haz tu claim! o sea pide lo que quieras, ¿una introducción entre Padme Amidala y Chuck Bass?, ¿Un primer beso entre Nathan Scott y Lois Lane? aqui puedes pedirlo!, pide lo que quieras, se trata de que podamos hacer tantas historias locas como se te ocurran, mientras más alocadas sean tus ideas mejor!, vamos que es la oportunidad para hacer que Liz Walker y Brett Rutheford se casen!

Para hacer tu claim incluye lo siguiente:

• Mi nombre: (Nombre de tu personaje) Chloe Sullivan
• Claim: (De quien quieres que sea la mini historia? una persona, muchas? dos?) Padme/Obi Wan
• Fandom: (Serie, pelicula, libro del que se trate) Star Wars
• Promps: (¿que es lo que deseas?, puedes poner una palabra que se tenga que incluir, una frase, un concepto, etc) Que Padme le confiese a Obi lo que en realidad piensa de Anakin.

¿Lo ves? No es tan dificil pedir, puedes pedir cuantas veces quieras, tan solo has distintos comentarios cada vez que vayas a pedir algo, y pide lo que quieras!, por ejemplo tal vez yo como roler quiera conocer a algún personaje en particular, entonces me puedo anotar yo y pedir como prompt el conocer a ese personaje.

Segunda Fase

Tienen toda esta semana para pedir tantos drabbles como se les ocurran, usen su imaginación! que quieren salir con Emmett Cullen? pidanlo aqui! revuelvan fandoms, personajes, historias, lo que  gusten!, tienen toda esta semana para pensarlo antes de entrar a la segunda fase.

En la segunda fase haremos una lista maestra con todo lo que se pida (o si son muchos comentarios tal vez tan solo los dejaremos en esta entrada)

Y ahora si, viene lo más divertido: contestar los pedidos de nuestros roleadores! cosa que haremos entre nosotros mismos! vamos cumple los deseos de tus compañeros de rol y contesta lo que te piden, ¿que tanto son 100 palabritas?

Para contestar será sencillo, abriremos una entrada especial para ello y de nueva cuenta en un comentario puedes contestar los promps que te gusten ¿eres fan de Twilight a pesar de que roleas en WC? por que no aprovechas para escribir un poco del tema? o que tal si tu personaje fue mencionado o pedido para una introduccion? ¿por que no hacer el sueño realidad de esa persona e introducir a tu personaje con él en una historia? Todo es posible.

Por ejemplo, supongamos que el personaje de Madeline Dunst (recuerden que pediran sus deseos como personajes) pide una historia de Brianna y Brett (Si, si, soy fan de Brett y lo utilizaré como ejemplo cuanto se me antoje) entonces yo, su buena amiga Chloe Sullivan contestaré a su pedido, ¿como?, llenando estos sencillos datos:

• Mi nombre de personaje
• Nombre de la persona que pidio el reto
• De que va el reto: Aqui debes de poner el fandom, personajes, promps (todo lo de la entrada de arriba)
• La historia (recuerda que es corta, con 100 palabras minimo, 5oo maximo tenemos)

Y listo! has hecho feliz a alguien escribiendole su mini historia y logrando así que dos personajes se conozcan.

Tal vez algún personaje pidio conocerse con el tuyo, también puedes escribir eso y conocer a más personas dentro del rol, o interactuar mucho mas con ellos, recuerda que entre menos se conozcan los personajes sobre los que escribas mejor!, lo que queremos es colisionar mundos despues de todo

¿Por qué que seria de un concurso sin premios?

La persona que responda más retos/deseos (retos ajenos no los que uno mismo pide) se llevara un grafico hecho por mi. También hare algo para el segundo y tercer lugar, así que escriban mucho, y cumplan los deseos de sus compañeros, aprovechen que esto es off rol y pueden pedir tantos personajes como gusten.

Y ahora yo me voy a pedir que alguien me escriba un Chloe/Brett *sale corriendo* Hahahaha, nah, es broma 

Reglas

(obvias pero por si a alguien se le olvida)

1. Nada de wank o de agredir a otros personajes, no estamos aqui para eso, tampoco te salgas de la linea con lo que pidas, no te diremos aqui lo que esta prohibido o no, creemos que todos saben comportarse en nuestra comunidad (por algo son roleadores de Rol Rockz).

2. Obviamente esto es OFF ROL, nada de lo que se escriba es obligatorio para nadie, a menos claro que el roler de tal o cual personaje lo quiera tomar como parte de su rol.

3. Si vez que nadie a contestado tu reto, puedes hacerlo tu mismo para no quedarte con las ganas!

4. Diviertete!

Nota: Si por alguna razón algun personaje original no quiere participar tan solo comente en esta entrada y no se escribirán historias sobre ellos. Los personajes publicos, lo sentimos chicos pero como su nombre lo dice, son del publico

Desde seu anúncio, Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe tem gerado grande expectativa e muito mais desconfiança em todo mundo, e conforme as notícias vinham a coisa foi tomando forma. Um dos grandes momentos do jogo certamente é o fatality do Coringa (comentado anteriormente por aqui), MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSS… buscando uma censura menor pra aumentar suas vendas, o jogo passou por uma limpeza e um dos cortes justamente esse golpe, entre outros detalhes do jogo todo. Aparentemente a câmera vira e agora o tiro de verdade não é visto, voltando só pra comemoração da vitória. Agora só nos resta esperar que este outro fatality do mesmo seja mantido sem cortes, reparem como ele parece com aquele do Reiko no MK 4.

A capa do jogo, lá no alto, foi desenhada por Alex Ross, e não ficou menos do que muy fueda (imagem pega no blog 100grana). Um vídeo novo com alguns fatalities também foi divulgado:

E lá está o típico momento mal feito que todos os jogos tem que ter. Não é querer ser chato ou detalhista, mas o cara virando caveira antes do raio cair ficou muito evidente.

About a month ago I wrote about Never Say Never, and how if your type isn’t working, it might be time to find a new type.  Well, after a month of intense “research” I have some things to share that are insightful, but have brought be back to square one.

I dated the Never Say Never (NSN) guy for the past month.  At first it was exhilarating and so much fun.  NSN is different from me in every way possible, and I really liked that about him.  I go to church on Sundays, he doesn’t believe it God.  I work in corporate America, he is in the military.  I like routine, he thrives on thrills and adventure.  At first I thought that this was the perfect balance, finally, someone who could push me outside of my comfort zone and make me think in a new and different way. 

I began to tell my family and friends that opposites attract and that two people who are different can find things in common to bond them.  I started to believe in him and in the idea of us.  And then, our 2 worlds smacked into each other.  We did what no new couple should do, we went away together. 

Going away with someone that you are dating is like putting a relationship on steroids.  Instead of spending small amounts of time together and building the anticipation of seeing each other again, you find yourself in a place of sharing a bathroom and learning each others weird habits.  For example, I don’t know why guys have to make that “hawking of spit” sound in the shower, but you definitely don’t want to hear that a month in.  Similarly, no guy wants to see that it takes me an hour to straighten my naturally curly hair before a date.  Or at least, not in the beginning.

What I learned is invaluable.  The beginning stages of a relationship are fabulous.  The butterflies, the first dates, the anticipation, nobody should rush past that phase, especially if you are from a different world and won’t appreciate what makes you different.  I tried a new type, and it didn’t work for me.  I’m back to square one, and looking forward to seeing my type again!
