The main event of tonight’s ECW on SyFy telecast will see the end of one of the better feuds in ECW in quite some time, as The Hurricane battles “The Ripper” Paul Birchill. The match has been building for quite sometime, and I’d say it should have gotten a spot on the Survivor Series pay-per-view, but it’s probably best that it’s happening on ECW instead, because it’ll be allowed to get some good time.

The stakes are high, if Paul Birchill wins, then The Hurricane must unmask and reveal his identity. If Hurricane wins, Paul Birchill has to leave ECW, and I would assume his sister Katie Lea would have to leave with him.

These two are two of the better workers on the brand, and it’s been great getting to see Birchill get some kind of a meaningful feud, as he’s just such an underrated individual (as is the lovely Katie Lea). The Hurricane character works extremely well, it’s fun and entertaining and it does add something to ECW. So for that reason, I think it’s obvious Hurricane wins and the Paul and Katie are able to move on to potentially better things (and hopefully on Friday Night Smackdown). Should be a really good TV main-event, so definitely be sure and tune in tonight at 9pm CT.

Growing up in the 1980s and early 1990s, one of my favorite professional wrestlers was the Ultimate

Growing up in the 1980s and early 1990s, one of my favorite professional wrestlers was the Ultimate Warrior.

Not familiar? Take a look:

You can see why a little kid would be magnetized to him. Action figure physique, off-the-charts intensity, frenetic energy…a really fun presentation.

But at the end of the day, the Ultimate Warrior was an extended flash in the pan.

Here are ways you can avoid being like the Ultimate Warrior as a publicist:

Diversify Your Moveset - Here is how an Ultimate Warrior match would…correction…how EVERY Ultimate Warrior match would go: Warrior would run to the ringside area. Warrior would run around the ring a few times. Warrior would shake the ropes. Warrior would give an array of clotheslines and shoulderblock tackles. Warrior would deliver a Gorilla Press Slam. Warrior would finish his opponent off with a splash. 1-2-3. See it once…it’s cool. See it a hundred times…not so much.

PR Application – Keep your eyes peeled to new trends in the industry. Always be willing to try new tools and applications to promote your clients. Just because something worked in the past doesn’t mean you should keep using the exact same methods every time. Stay fresh so your presentation doesn’t get tired.

Communicate Clearly – Where to begin??? The Ultimate Warrior umm..spoke like this:

Don't be like the Ultimate Warrior, PR Pros!

Sentences were incomplete, the message was kinda sorta lost. I mean, it was plain to see where he was headed, but you had no idea how he got there. I’m fairly certain he didn’t like Hulk Hogan in that interview. Not 100%, tough.

PR Application – Whether it is a phone call, e-mail, Tweet, telegram, Pony Express, cave-painting, or any other form of communication, figure out what you want to express and then do it as clearly as possible. Leave as little to subjective interpretation as possible. Earn your audience’s respect by allowing them to understand your position, even if they don’t agree with you.

Have Steak With Your Sizzle - The Ultimate Warrior, as explained above, was all about excitement. While his energy was nuts, he rarely told a satsifying story inside the ring (with the exception of his clashes at Wrestlemania 6 and 7, nothing stands out whatsoever). This left fans excited to see him at the start, but ready to move on to the next match when he left.

PR Application - Always deliver on the deliverables. Nobody can guarantee media hits. But if you promise your best efforts and outline a plan of attack, follow through! Send the client your releases, build their online profiles. If you made a good plan and you execute it properly, you will have delivered what you can. Obviously, if you get tons of coverage, you REALLY did your job!

So there you have it…three ways to avoid being like the Ultimate Warrior…and three ways to be a better publicist!

The following results come from WWE.com’s Greg Adkins. I’ll have the HeelZone RAW Rundown posted tomorrow sometime.

QUICK RESULTS:

- United States Champion The Miz def. MVP
- Santino Marella def. Chavo Guerrero
- Divas Champion Melina def. Alicia Fox in a Lumberjill Match
- Jack Swagger def. Evan Bourne
- WWE Champion John Cena & World Heavyweight Champion The Undertaker def. Triple H & Shawn Michaels and Unified Tag Team Champions Chris Jericho & Big Show in a Non-Title Match

NEW YORK – “Live from New York … it’s Monday Night Raw!”

That was how Raw’s special guest host, none other than “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, officially kicked off the broadcast from a place he knows well, The World’s Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden. And boy, the WWE Hall of Famer sure wasn’t kidding.

WWE Champion John Cena & World Heavyweight Champion The Undertaker def. Triple H & Shawn Michaels and Unified Tag Team Champions Chris Jericho & Big Show in a Non-Title Match
Madison Square Garden has been witness to some of WWE’s most amazing Superstars throughout its storied history: Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant and Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka to name but a few. Rare, nonetheless, seems the time when such legends converge at once. That was inarguably the case, however, as WWE Champion John Cena teamed with World Heavyweight Champion The Undertaker against Triple H & Shawn Michaels and Unified Tag Team Champions Chris Jericho & Big Show in a Triple Threat Tag Team Match.

Looming large in the subtext was Survivor Series, during which The Champ will face The Game and HBK in a Triple Threat Match while The Phenom must battle Jericho and Show in a three-man affair. Tonight, though, all six Superstars would compete in one colossal clash.

In the end, the two World Champions would prevail when Cena secured the victory for his team. As if to let the WWE Universe know that he needs no assistance, The Deadman suddenly turned on his partner and Tombstoned Cena, leaving the WWE Champion razed and confused.

Raw’s special guest host for next week will be Jesse Ventura
He’s taken control of the ring, the announcer’s mic and even the state of Minnesota. And next week, it’ll be time for Jesse Ventura to take over as special guest host when he drops by for a three-hour Raw Thanksgiving special.

“Rowdy” Roddy Piper challenged Mr. McMahon to a street fight; Randy Orton attacked, Kofi Kingston rushed to the rescue
Raw’s special guest host, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, has beaten cancer and cheated death on numerous occasions. One mountain he hasn’t climbed, though, is tackling Mr. McMahon in a street fight, which is why the plaid maniac challenged The Chairman to such a battle earlier in the evening.

As Piper waited in vain for Mr. McMahon to show, Randy Orton emerged, wanting a fight of his own. The Viper attacked the WWE Hall of Famer and had him on the ropes when Kofi Kingston charged into the melee. The respective Survivor Series captains of Team Kofi and Team Orton share a resentment-fueled history, which includes Kofi trashing Orton’s customized NASCAR automobile and slapping him across the face – twice! The two scuffled outside of the ring, trading blows amongst the WWE faithful. The action intensified when Kofi slammed Orton across the head, opening up a nasty gash and leaving The Viper lying hurt atop a table. The dreadlocked dynamo then climbed atop a railing and hit a Boom Drop onto Orton, severing the table into two and leaving his nemesis in gut-wrenching pain.

Jack Swagger def. Evan Bourne
Jack Swagger – rarely has a name seemed more fitting. The cocky collegiate All-American wrestler appeared to lose a bit of bluster last week when he dropped a match to high-flying Evan Bourne. In their rematch this week, Swagger wasn’t about to allow his strut to be stripped. He grounded Bourne’s aerial assault and proved that he will be a force to contend with when he joins Team Miz this Sunday at Survivor Series against Bourne and Team Morrison.

Sheamus attacked Jerry “The King” Lawler
His Irish temper has already claimed one victim, Jamie Noble, who retired last week after suffering a severe beating at the hands of The Celtic Warrior. This week, Sheamus issued an open challenge to the Raw roster, which no one accepted. Apparently, in a need to satiate his wicked ways, the Irishman attacked Raw’s timekeeper and then went after ring announcer Jerry “The King” Lawler, leaving the WWE Hall of Famer lying motionless.

Divas Champion Melina def. Alicia Fox in a Lumberjill Match
Judah Friedlander never had it so good. The 30 Rock actor and comedian was honored as special guest ring announcer for the match between Divas Champion Melina and Alicia Fox. Friedlander announced that the bout would be a Divas Championship Lumberjill Match then happily looked on from ringside.

While Fox has showcased amazing resilience in recent weeks, Melina’s gutsy performance proved too much as the Latina lovely retained the golden butterfly. Apparently, a few of the Divas disapproved and the entire ring was covered with sexy, smart and powerful women clashing with one another.

Santino Marella def. Chavo Guerrero ; Triple H Pedigreed Hornswoggle
The week prior, Chavo Guerrero wanted to fight Santino Marella, but, thanks to a misunderstanding, he ended up battling boxing great Ricky Hatton and getting knocked out by the special guest host. This week, he got his wish. Instead of trampling The Italian Stallion, however, the self-proclaimed “Mexican Warrior” fell short when Hornswoggle distracted him.

While the leprechaun, clad in DX gear, disappeared under the ring, the real DX emerged to quell rumors and settle matters once and for all. Triple H and Shawn Michaels informed the crowd that they will indeed fight one another at Survivor Series in their Triple Threat Match with WWE Champion John Cena, but that competition will not be their undoing as a team. They also called out a reluctant Hornswoggle to, as they put it, include him in DX. When the little guy showed up wearing neon green and performing DX chops, though, he suffered a damning Pedigree at the hands of Triple H in an extreme effort at thwarting the little imitator once and for all.

United States Champion The Miz def. MVP
With his smarmy tone and taunting smirk, United States Champion The Miz makes it oh-so-easy to dislike him. Which is why it’s too bad the guy just keeps winning. This week, he defended his title against MVP and emerged victorious, despite The Franchise Playa having The View’s Sherri Shepherd cheering him from ringside. The bout may prove to be a primer for when Miz leads his team this Sunday against Intercontinental Champion John Morrison, also the captain of his team, in a Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Match.

“Rowdy” Roddy Piper opens Raw
Before greeting the WWE Universe to another edition of Raw, the WWE Hall of Famer welcomed New York actor Luis Guzman, who has had memorable roles in Boogie Nights and Traffic and can be seen in the upcoming comedy Old Dogs. Piper announced that the two would be joined by a Guzman favorite, Iron Chef Bobby Flay. Unfortunately for the Puerto Rican actor, a mix-up produced not the Iron Chef but The Iron Sheik.

After telling Piper that his favorite WWE moment from The Garden involved Hulk Hogan, Sheik flipped his head dress, rambling angrily and mimicking beating up on Hulk with a pair of action figures.

With that, the WWE Universe welcomed another wild and crazy edition of Raw to The Garden, complete with a rockin’ new opening theme song compliments of Nickelback.

I’ve been a bad blogger, mainly because I’ve been sick. One of those nasty colds that just seems to be lingering and lingering, plus I’ve got a ton of my plate right now, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that I’ve missed two weeks of recaps. Oops. So here’s my condensed thoughts on the last two weeks of Raw.

I’m loving the Cena/Triple H/Shawn Michaels promos, these three have good chemistry. I know the angle should be played as more serious as it is, especially between the members of DX, but there’s still several months between now and Wrestlemania (where we all know we’re getting a HBK/HHH match) and they’ve got time to get to the serious stuff, so right now I think they’re making the right decision. Let things fall apart after Survivor Series.

I’m really enjoying the elevation of Kofi Kingston and his feud with Randy Orton. It’s been very well-done so far and it moves Kofi closer to main event status, I move I think he’s been ready for for sometime. I also like that Ted DiBiase seems to be taking on more of a “Millon Dollar” man attitude, with the comments to his financial status, I’ve been predicting a face turn for him, but a change in that direction would be just as good, I think.

I love the Miz and I love the idea of a The Miz/Jack Swagger rivalry, I just hope it’s done well and not dropped suddenly like the potentially awesome Jack Swagger/MVP rivalry from earlier this summer.

Seamus is coming out strong and I kind of like it. It might be a little soon, but let him build a reputation and get some heat. The attack on Jamie Noble looked vicious, which was the point. I winced at the bumps Noble took and it definitely made Seamus look like a monster, which was the whole point.

Final thought: Ozzy Osbourne made a much better guest host than Ricky Hatton. In fact, the Prince of Darkness was kind of awesome, Sharon got on my nerves fast thought.

Still riding the high of Sarita, ODB, and myself defending our titles last night!!

Und was kommt dann? Wer jetzt SWERVE sagt, liegt genau richtig.

OMG! OMG! OMG! I WON! I can’t believe I beat the best female wrestler in the world, Kong. I am cleaning the wounds from cage match. Ouch.

Team 3D & Rhino traten nun gegen Matt Morgan & Hernandez & D’Angelo Dinero an.

Scott will Lashley besiegen und dann Krystal poppen.

Kurt Angle vs. Desmond Wolfe, was soll man sagen?! Ich persönlich fand dieses Match absolute Klasse. Mat Wrestling, British Wrestling, High Impact Moves, US Pro Wrestlin – alles war dabei.

Of all the superstars of wrestling, few attract more controversy than Triple H. For years he has bee

Of all the superstars of wrestling, few attract more controversy than Triple H. For years he has been held up by his supporters as being one of the best, if not the best wrestlers in WWE. His detractors have claimed that he only owes his position to his marriage, that he uses his power to hold down other wrestlers and even that he has killed the business. He has, for much of his career, been involved in skits and angles that expose the business, or use insider terms and yet he is known to be a student of the business with a thorough understanding and appreciation of what has gone before him. In short, everyone in wrestling, whether promoter, wrestler or fan, has an opinion on Triple H and those opinions cover every imaginable base. What then, is the truth about the man who is arguably the most powerful and influential wrestler in the business today? The controversy with Triple H really starts with his arrival in the then World Wrestling Federation. Soon after joining the company in 1995 he became close friends with Kevin Nash, Shawn Michaels, Sean Waltman and Scott Hall, better known as The Kliq. By joining this group, Triple H was setting himself up for criticism and suspicion but also gaining opportunities. Depending on who you ask, The Kliq were either a shadowy group of opportunists, manipulating Vince McMahon in order to benefit themselves and harm their rivals, or a group of friends whose enthusiasm for the business had given them a good relationship with Vince. That The Kliq had Vince’s ear was unquestionable. To what extent, whether they were the only ones and how they used and benefited from this are the questions. The other question that Triple H’s critics pose is this: did Triple H deliberately target The Kliq as the group to join in order to further one’s career? After all, they were notorious party animals, famous for their excessive lifestyle, while Triple H himself was a bodybuilder for years and just did not seem the type to get carried away in that manner. So, was it really just a shared love of wrestling that made them friends, or was the young Triple H smart and devious enough to deliberately worm his way into the most influential group on the roster? Given the fact that the friendship between these men has endured for many years, despite all kinds of ups and downs, it seems unkind to try and suggest that their bond was anything other than sincere. Whatever the case, the fact is that they did become friends and Triple H was, therefore, in an influential position. Moreover, isn’t it only natural that a young wrestler entering the company is going to naturally gravitate towards more established and experienced wrestlers? Of course, there was a downside to being the junior member of such a group, one illustrated in the now infamous “curtain call” incident in 1996. By this point, Nash and Hall were about to go WCW and, in their last match they faced Shawn and Hunter at Madison Square Garden in a non-televised show. After the match the four friends embraced, thereby breaking character and “exposing the business” to the live audience. As Shawn and Hunter have told this story, this was intended to be nothing more than a fond goodbye between friends. They had, apparently, cleared it with Vince beforehand and, as far as exposing the business went, well, this was 1996 not 1984 after all. Afterwards, however, some unknown other people got in Vince’s ear and persuaded Vince that what The Kliq had done was disgraceful and that they should be punished. Since Nash and Hall had now gone, and Shawn was the WWF Champion, that basically meant that Hunter was going to be punished. According to Hunter, Vince told him that he was “going to have to eat sh*t and learn to like the taste of it” for some indefinite period. Hunter’s response was that he would endure whatever he had to, as long as Vince assured him that, once his punishment was over, the issue was done with. It wouldn’t be brought up again and Hunter wouldn’t find himself dogged by this time and time again. Vince assured him that, so far as he was concerned, the matter was already done with and thus, a planned push for Triple H was put on hold for about a year. For example, Triple H had been scheduled to win the 1996 King of the Ring, but that honour now went to Steve Austin (clearing the way for “Austin 3:16 says I just whipped your ass” and therefore possibly saving the company from extinction) and Hunter would have to bide his time. In later years, Triple H has often referred to this as a blessing in disguise, insisting that, at that stage of his career he was not ready to be featured that strongly, and that this “punishment” actually ensured he was ready when his turn came around. I would have to agree with him, particularly as this supposed “punishment” was hardly as serious as one might imagine. For most of the following year Hunter was still featured prominently on television, briefly gained the services of Mr Perfect as manager (before Perfect left for WCW) and even won the Intercontinental Title in October of 1996. To me, therefore, it seems more that Hunter’s push was slowed rather than stopped. Besides which, wrestling is a fluid business. It’s all very well for Vince to say “I’m punishing this guy” but if said guy is getting over with crowd then he’s getting over and you may as well go with it. The next major stage of Hunter’s career was, of course, the formation of Degeneration X with Shawn Michaels and Chyna (and, briefly, Rick Rude as Shawn’s “insurance policy”), which was another of the pivotal factors in the arrival of the “Attitude Era”. DX have often been compared to WCW’s NWO and, given that two of The Kliq formed DX, Nash and Hall were two of the founders of the NWO and Sean Waltman was the only man, prior to WWE’s takeover of WCW, to work in both groups, it is hardly surprising. In point of fact, there are as many differences as similarities between the two groups but one definite connection that both groups had was a willingness to blur the lines between story and reality and, therefore, to frequently run the risk of exposing the business. Now, this was, of course, the late nineties and it was already years since Vince McMahon had taken the decision to “break kayfabe” and publicly admit that professional wrestling was a worked sport. Nevertheless, at that time the business still had not, and many would argue still has not, come to terms with exactly what that meant and how far one should now go in this new era. The Kliq were, though perhaps they did not realise it at the time, in the vanguard of a new group that also included, for example, Vince Russo, who wanted to test the boundaries of the new freedoms and restrictions that breaking kayfabe had instituted. In that sense, they were either iconoclasts or visionaries (or both) but, either way, they got right up the noses of a lot of more old-school people within the business. Regardless of what people thought of DX, and Vince himself was often appalled by their antics, they were a massive hit with the audience. Triple H himself has often said that, at that time, they were “the hottest thing in the business not named Steve Austin” and it is certainly true that, along with the Rattlesnake, along with The New Hart Foundation’s war with America and along with the macabre soap opera that saw Kane introduced to the Undertaker’s back story, they were one of the crucial building blocks of the era of Attitude. It was inevitable, in this era of shifting fan loyalties that DX would come to be popular even as they were supposed to be booed. It only made sense when, after Shawn Michaels’ apparent retirement after Wrestlemania 14, a new Degeneration X became babyfaces. Another important change had taken place, too. Triple H was now a leader. By now, Hunter was a former European and Intercontinental Champion, as well as King of the Ring. His rise had been steady and showed no signs of abating. Critics often say that he was “shoved down the fans’ throats” but, really, this is hardly a justifiable accusation. Triple H joined WWE in 1995, the same year as Steve Austin. By Wrestlemania 14 Austin was champion but he is regarded as a man who earned his spot while Triple H was forced on the fans. Even if one accepts what appears to be a double standard here, on the grounds that Austin had more experience in the business overall, what of The Rock? He joined WWE after Triple H, with less experience, and was made Intercontinental Champion almost immediately. If ever a man was “forced on the fans” it was The Rock. Yet, by the vast majority, he is now rightly regarded as an all-time great and, if people reference his difficult early years at all, it is merely to point out the skill and charisma he displayed in turning heel. In point of fact, all three of these men, along with several others, rose quickly during these years for a couple of reasons. Firstly, because WWE was in a life or death struggle with WCW and the company were therefore willing to try new ideas and new people. Secondly, and very simply, because they were over with the fans! If you don’t believe me, get some tapes or DVDs and watch them back. Triple H was getting a great response from the crowd back in 1998 as a bayface and an even better response in 1999 as a heel. It seems to me that, ultimately, Triple H has been judged harshly for not being as over as Austin and The Rock, two of the three biggest stars in the company’s history, along with Hogan at his peak, rather than receiving the praise he deserves for being as popular as he was in his own right. Since then, of course, it is his marriage to Stephanie McMahon that has cast the biggest shadow over his career. According to his detractors, all of his success since can be attributed directly to this relationship, this despite the fact that he was already a main-event wrestler before said relationship began. Furthermore, he is accused of using his influence to sabotage the career of anyone who might threaten his own spot on the roster, to the great detriment of the company he works for. Triple H himself has always maintained that he would happily give up any creative power he may have if it were for the good of the company, and that he will step away from the limelight whenever his father-in-law, the man who wields the real power, tells him to. However, he also maintains that now is not the time for that, as the company does not have the star power to sustain such a loss. So, what is the truth? It is certainly true that, for the last decade or so Triple H has enjoyed a vast run of success at the top, winning no less than thirteen world championships. It is also true that in the early part of this century the WWE lost a lot of star power, with Steve Austin and Mick Foley more or less retiring and The Rock leaving for Hollywood. It is also true that these men have not been adequately replaced, partly due to the deaths of Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit, plus the defection of Kurt Angle to TNA. The idea that Triple H will not put people over is an arguable point. One can point to Triple H’s feud with Batista, some of his matches with Jeff Hardy, his Wrestlemania submissions to Benoit and Cena, even the recent DX-Legacy feud and say, sure, of course Triple H puts people over. Or, one could look at feuds with, say, Booker T, Rob Van Dam, Scott Steiner and Hunter’s first feud with Randy Orton as evidence that Triple H does nothing but squash people and make them look bad. It should surely be obvious that to go entirely one way or the other is to present a jaundiced view. The real key, of course, is who makes these decisions. Hunter’s critics assert that he is the one deciding to hold down talent and that any examples to the contrary are merely rare examples of times he was over-ruled. Without being part of the creative meetings, how can we possibly know? All we know for certain is this – the WWE is Vince McMahon’s company and the buck for every decision stops with him. If Hunter uses his influence to maximise his own position, why then he’s only doing what countless other wrestlers have done in the past. Moreover, Triple H managed to carve out a main-event spot for himself in an era when Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock were at the height of their popularity. I sincerely doubt that he is at all worried that anyone might ever threaten his spot in this day and age. The other factor that needs to be remembered is that, these days, the WWE is unwilling to take chances. As a company, their inclination is to stick with a safe bet, a proven draw like Triple H, rather than gamble on an unknown commodity. The spur of desperation once provided by the threat of Ted Turner’s millions is no longer present and so WWE will not take desperate gambles. It is not just Triple H’s role but WWE’s entire main-event picture, especially on Raw, that has become static and unchanging. It’s interesting to note that John Cena and The Undertaker, perhaps the only men booked even stronger than Hunter these days, are rarely, if ever, accused of refusing to put people over. In their case, the blame is almost always put on Vince and creative for not using them to elevate new talent. The mere fact that they’re not married to a McMahon does not mean, however, that they have no influence over Vince. What we see hear is a double standard in operation, something that I hope I have shown is nothing new in Hunter’s career. Finally, does Triple H deserve his success? Well, as I’ve said before, it’s difficult to provide a fair, objective view when one is writing about such a subjective issue. There are, and always have been, some fans who consider Triple H a dull competitor and/or a dull speaker. These are entirely valid assertions. Triple H’s ring style is not spectacular enough for the tastes of some, too repetitive for others. His speaking style is realistic, rather than caricatured promo style of many of wrestling’s great speakers. Personally, I have always found his work to be extremely entertaining. Many of my favourite WWE matches have involved Triple H and I have found him to be convincing as both a hero and a villain, believable both when intense and when humorous. For the most part, the crowd have always been into him and his fellow wrestlers tend to speak highly of his work. For my part and, I would guess the majority of fans, yes, Triple H does deserve his success. Maybe we might quibble over the precise number of title reigns but, by and large, I think most would agree that Triple H is a bone fide main event player.

Some of the most random events happen around here. This evening I was invited to Nagano to attend a wrestling match just like the WWF competition only all in Japanese. I was surprisingly impressed by the show and the talent of the wrestlers. They certainly had the crowd entertained. A strange observation was the shoes off policy at the big sports arena. It seemed quite odd in that environment with tile floors and plastic stuck down on top of that. Undersized slippers come standard in Japan and supplied for everyone. They must have 4000 pairs stored away. We finished up the night at one of my favourite izakayas in central Nagano for a few beers and a good feed. A great night had by all.

For those of you who don’t know, TNA president Dixie Carter “tweets” @TNADixie. When she wasn’t hyping the Turning Point pay-per-view, she was breaking some news. Apparently the Black Pope IS the real deal, and he’s staying with TNA long-term.

Right before I walked in to watch the PPV just now, The Pope and I signed his new long term deal. He IS the real deal.

That’s cool, although I don’t think he’s done anything as of yet in TNA to where WWE would’ve been trying to get him back. I like the Black Pope, since it’s obvious that Christopher Daniels will never be a TNA World Champion, I wouldn’t mind seeing a tag team of the Black Pope and the Fallen Angel. They could have some kick ass matches with Motor City Machine Guns and Beer Money, although both men are definitely good enough to be doing something better than playing around in a tag team.

But this is a good move by TNA to keep him tied down for the long term, now lets just hope that since is IS the real deal, creative gets off their ass and slowly begins to elevate him up the card. There’s no reason in the world why Dinero shouldn’t be main-eventing this time next year. Not saying he needs to win the title anytime soon, but within a year, he should definitely be in the picture.

These results are from TNAwrestling.com. I may post a review sometime this week if I get around to it, but suffice to say the Kurt Angle/Desmond Wolfe and Styles/Daniels/Joe matches were fantastic.

QUICK RESULTS:

- X Title: The Amazing Red defeated Homicide
- All Titles On Line: ODB/Sarita/Wilde defeated The Beautiful People

Here are the results from Sunday’s “Turning Point” Pay-Per-View event:

- The Amazing Red (with Don West providing live commentary) defeated Homicide to retain the X Division Championship. After blocking a top rope hurricanrana attempt by Homicide, Amazing Red was able to hit his Code Red finisher for the win in the end. After the bout, West congratulated Red on the successful defense.

- Knockouts Champion ODB and Knockouts Tag Team Champions Taylor Wilde and Sarita defeated The Beautiful People after ODB got the win on Madison Rayne after a TKO.

- The British Invasion defeated Beer Money to retain the TNA Tag Team Championship. The bout saw Kevin Nash come out to take the Global Championship from Eric Young, then Nash nailed James Storm with the title on the outside of the ring, allowing The British Invasion to get the win over Robert Roode inside the ring.

- In a 6 Sixes of Steel cage match, Tara defeated Awesome Kong after a huge splash off the top of the structure for the pin. After powerbombing Kong from the ropes, Tara had her chance to climb out, but chose to finish off Kong with the big move for the victory!

- A video package aired highlighting Hulk Hogan joining TNA Wrestling, also featuring Eric Bischoff and TNA President Dixie Carter

- Rhino and Team 3D defeated The Pope, Hernandez and Matt Morgan. After tremendous six-man action, in the end Team 3D used a chair on Hernandez as he was attempting his Border Toss finisher, allowing Rhino to hit his GORE finisher on Hernandez to get the win!

- In a bloody, no-disqualification, Falls Count Anywhere battle, Scott Steiner was able to defeat Bobby Lashley. The bout went all over the arena, with Steiner eventually smashing Lashley at the Spanish Announce Table with a metal rod from the scaffolding for the win. After the chaotic match, Lashley pushed off paramedics and walked out on his own power, later saying that his war with Steiner downlowas far from over.

- In an amazing match, Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle defeated British newcomer Desmond Wolfe. Each man went back and forth trading high-impact and submission moves, resulting in chants of “This Is Awesome!” from the fans in attendance. In the end, Wolfe managed to fight off Angle’s Ankle Lock submission, but ended up tapping out to Angle’s triangle choke! The Olympic Gold Medalist won the battle, but Wolfe proved without a shadow of a doubt that he is certainly a major force in TNA Wrestling!

- In a three-way classic, “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles retained the TNA World Championship, beating Daniels and Samoa Joe. The bout may have surpassed their original epic battle in 2005, as the fans in the arena were in total amazement! Certainly, Match Of The Year material! In the end, Samoa Joe went for his Muscle Buster finisher, but Daniels hit his STO instead. Daniels hit the Best Moonsault Ever and went for the pin, but AJ Styles nailed a springboard 450 splash on Joe and Dnaiels. AJ tossed Daniels aside and got the pin on Joe to retain the World Title! Daniels was shocked that he lost by such a narrow margin, while Joe looked on in anger! AJ Styles celebrates as still the TNA World Heavyweight Champion!

Tune into Thursday’s “iMPACT!” on SpikeTV starting at 9/8c for the aftermath of the Pay-Per-View, plus more news on Hulk Hogan joining TNA Wrestling!

Miss USA gingerly steps down the stairwell leading back to the floor.

Miss USA whips Jill-Berg to the rail, ties up the arm and returns the favor from earlier, kicking Jill-Berg’s arm in the railing. Back inside now and Miss USA hits a hammerlock slam. Whip and a clothesline by Miss USA, who is still limping. Arm wringer and a series of chops by Miss USA followed by a kick to the chest and an armlock submission. Jill-Berg makes the ropes so Miss USA hits a snap mare and locks in a cloverleaf-Tequila sunrise combo! She nearly has Jill-Berg almost vertical. Berg slips out of it. Running forearm in the corner by Miss USA, a round kick and a snap suplex. Miss USA goes up top and HITS the diving headbutt. She hooks the legs…1…2…kickout again by Berg.

Tessa: “Incredible action, Judith. You were right. Both women have gotten their second wind.”

Judith: “She didn’t get all of it though!”

Cover…1…2…NO! Miss USA tries for another Doctor Driver but Jill-Berg blocks, Miss USA with a series of short kicks to the head and another Doctor Driver attempt. Jill-Berg puts Miss USA up top, goes up on the outside behind her but Miss USA fights off. Miss USA looks for a superplex but is pushed down. She charges back in with a head kick and again goes up top and AGAIN is knocked down.

Jill-Berg lifts her up. Miss USA blocks and out of nowhere hits a back suplex! Berg retreats to the floor.

Tessa: “MISS USA!!! I don’t believe it! She flew between the ropes with a tope con hilo but WAY overshot it and only caught Jill-Berg a glancing blow on the shoulder before flying into the crowd!”

Judith: “Somehow Miss USA is alive.

Tessa: “She’s able to roll Jill-Berg back in. Berg charges. Miss USA moves! Jill-Berg hits the post shoulder-first!”

Tessa: “That’s it! She’s done it. We’ve got ourselves a winner!”

Zenk: “The winner of this match, and the Missouri Valley Wrestling Champion, Miss USA!”

Tessa: “Judith, it’s hard to believe that five short months ago, Miss USA’s wrestling career was in question. Tonight, on her finest night as a professional, she came through with an epic performance that should erase any doubts. ”

Judith: “I completely concur, Tess. Miss USA proved herself a champion tonight. However, let’s not forget the effort of Jill Berg. She came in here tonight with a lot of hype and not a lot of substance behind her. That should change after tonight. Berg’s martial arts background came to the forefront tonight as she used various moves you don’t usually see in professional wrestling. She was hurt early but fought hard and valiantly in defeat.”

Paige McGillicutty

Paige: “Paige McGillicutty here with the undisputed Missouri Valley Wrestling Champion Miss USA. Miss USA, how did it feel for you go back to DWF and get that big win over Jill Berg?” Miss USA: “Honestly, Paige? I was totally focused on getting the win. One of the biggest things I’ve learned over the past four months is not letting little things distract me from my goals. Dawn McGill and I came up with the game plan for the match, knowing full well that Jill would have her hired goons come out in force. We didn’t figure they’d come out with twenty but thankfully, we had enough back up to keep them busy.” Paige: “Having the ‘Hellcat’ Kirsta Lewis didn’t hurt there didn’t hurt either.” Miss USA: “Oh, yeah. Right before I ducked underneath the ring, I saw Kirsta and Dawn McGill mowing through the bodyguards. I don’t think Jill accounted for that.” Paige: “Now what? You’ve unified the PCW Women’s title and now the Dream Wrestling Federation’s Women’s title. What will you do for an encore?” Miss USA: “Right now, Paige, I’m the Missouri Valley Wrestling champion and plan on holding the title for a long time to come.” Paige: “So, Miss USA…a big winner last week at DWF Golden Dreams-

The video screen goes to just outside a dressing room in the back. A police escort is waiting at the door. One of the policemen knocks on the door.

Policeman: “Ms. Berg. It’s time.”

The door opens and four large male bodybuilding types walk out of the dressing room surrounding a petite woman and her male assistant in the middle. The woman is busy talking on her cell phone while the man furiously scribbles down notes as the group makes their way towards the ring.

The procession emerges from the back and starts their way down the ramp.

The male assistant has a microphone and a portable tape recorder. He flips it on.

“JILLLLL-BERG…JILLLLL-BERG…”

The group then continues towards the ring leaving the police escort behind.

“JILLLLL-BERG…JILLLLL-BERG…”

The four bodyguards assist Ms. Berg into the ring. She and her assistant immediately go to a corner.

“JILLLLL-BERG…JILLLLL-BERG…”

Berg continues to talk on her cell phone while protected by two of the bodybuilders.

“JILLLLL-BERG…JILLLLL-BERG…”

Paige: “Ms. Berg, are you coming over-” Jill-Berg’s personal assistant ’shushes’ her. Berg wraps up her phone call and then walks over. Berg: “Well, Miss USA. I certainly have to congratulate you on a hard fought win last week.” Miss USA: “Ah…thanks, Jill.” Berg: “But I’m putting you on notice. You somehow showed enough resourcefulness to overcome my hired contractors at the Golden Dreams Pay Per View. But this isn’t the end of this. My plan was to win and I will win. Mark my words, Miss USA. I’m not going anywhere. And I will be the champion.” Paige: “Miss USA?” Miss USA: “Jill, don’t worry. I’m not going anywhere either. I defeated you once and I’ll defeat you again.”

Tessa: “Well, a momentus match last week at DWF Golden Dreams and now the challenge layed down by Jill Berg. As we head towards Night of Champion next month, Missouri Valley Wrestling will have to contend with the corporate ruthlessness of Jill Berg.” Judith: “Tess, MVW will be stronger because of the addition of Jill Berg. Miss USA has a formidable challenger now for the MVW Title.” Tessa: “Let’s run down tonight’s card:

‘Texas Cowgirl’ Haley Dallas

…Tessa: “Amy Mason tags in Caroline Kelly.” Judith: “Tess, I am quite impressed with Sabrina James and Alicia Rowe. They spent a lot of time with ‘Hellcat’ Kirsta Lewis while she was here and it’s paying off.” Tessa: “It was Sabrina James who got the surprise pin on ‘Texas Cowgirl’ Haley Dallas to eliminate her and Katie Collins. Kelly kicks Rowe in the back of the leg. Tessa: “Caroline Kelly gets a quick shot in on Alicia Rowe and then brings back in Mason. She grabs Alicia Rowe from behind. Mason torques the arm with an arm wrench and tags in Caroline Kelly. Rowe reverses. Short lariat to Kelly sends her to the mat. Rowe throws Mason through the ropes and climbs the top turnbuckle. What is she going to do? OH!!! Rowe goes 450 splash!” Judith: “That’s gotta hurt. I’m always amazed to see that move pulled off.” Tessa: “Rowe follows with an electrifying flying somersault headbutt on Kelly! Rowe climbs back up to the top rope…she nails a reverse flying elbow drop!” Judith: “Rowe is on fire, Tess.” Tessa: “Caroline Kelly wants a time out and crawls from the ring.” Ron Martin starts the count (.1) Rowe slingshots off the top rope and hits Kelly with a flying elbowdrop. Tessa: “Rowe goes right back on top…flying elbow drop to the gut! Rowe right back up and drags Kelly back into the ring.” Judith: “She’s going back up top again, Tess.” Tessa: “UNBELIEVABLE! Rowe with a frog splash on Kelly. Rowe covers…1 …2 …3!”

WINNER: SABRINA JAMES AND ALICIA ROWE in 12:21

Tessa: “Sabrina James and Alicia Rowe follow up with an impressive win here tonight over Katie Collins and ‘Texas Cowgirl’ Haley Dallas and Amy Mason and Caroline Kelly.” Judith: “Tess, the work that Kirsta Lewis did with James and Rowe was well worth bringing her in. Missouri Valley’s tag team division is getting more depth.” Tessa: “The fact that Lewis worked with both Mason and Kelly and James and Rowe and they were the final two tag teams in this match proves bringing Lewis in was a good idea.”

PAIGE McGILLICUTTY INTERVIEWS THE MERCENARIES

Paige: “I’m here with MVW Tag Team Television Champions Jackie Daniels and Dawn McGill, the new tag team- The Mercenaries. Jackie, first you. I know this has been a sore subject for you so let’s get it out of the way. As you know, Kirsta Lewis spent two weeks here working with the younger wrestlers. How did you feel about that and did you two interact at all?” Jackie: “How did I feel? I really didn’t fell anything, Paige. I’ve spent way too much of my life worrying about what Kirsta thinks. She is a part of my past. I have moved on with my life. I have a new tag team partner. A new outlook. And a new family. Kirsta Lewis taught me everything I know about wrestling. But I never felt as part of a family than I have here in Missouri Valley Wrestling.” Paige: “She was quoted as saying that when she saw the match last week where you and Dawn won the Tag Team Television Title that it was ‘the old Jackie that she could rely on.’ But then she added until you screw up.” Jackie: “The old Jackie would have let her get under my skin. The new Jackie…and I hate that…the real Jackie doesn’t let little things like that bother her. Kirsta’s entitled to her opinion. But I’ve decided that it’s in my best interests to concentrate on the bigger picture here. Dawn and I just won the Tag Team Television Title. And now, I think it’s time to set our sights even higher.” Paige: “Dawn, you’ve had quite the couple weeks with the success you’ve had over at High Octane Wrestling. You’ve been in two matches there and both were for the ICON title held by Max Kael.” Dawn: “I wouldn’t call losing both matches ’success’ Paige.” Paige: “Most people don’t debut in a wrestling federation with three consecutive title shots either.” Dawn: “Well, look. We’ll see how it goes after next week. We-ah…we’ve had quick success here too. I agree with Jackie. Now it’s time to take it to the next level and that’s the Tag Team belts-”

*AC/DC’s ‘If You Want Blood’ starts up*

It’s criminal
there ought to be a law
criminal
there ought to be a whole lot more
you get a nothin’ for nothin’
tell me who can you trust
we got what ya want
and you got the lust

Out walks the MVW Tag Team Champions Angels of Death- Angel Casey and Angel Scott. Both women eyeball Daniels and McGill as they deliberately stroll towards the ring.

If you want blood (YOU GOT IT)
If you want blood (YOU GOT IT)
BLOOD on the streets
BLOOD on the rocks
BLOOD in the gutter, EVERY LAST DROP,
YOU WANT BLOOD you got it
yes you have

AoD climb into the ring and join the festivies. Scott: “Let me get this straight. Just because you two lucked out last week and won the Tag Team Television title, you think you’re just going to roll over us and take our titles?” Paige: “Angel, I don’t think they said that in so many words.” Dawn: “Yes, we did. Don’t think that you two are going to come out here and intimidate us. I’ve been around the block a few times and so has Jackie. If you’re that concerned, let’s set the match up and just see who’s the better team?” Casey: “Whoa, whoa. Why should we just hand you a title shot when there’s other deserving tag teams in MVW who are battling right now for the #1 contender’s spot? Get in line. Go win the spot. And then we’ll do it.” Jackie: “That’s funny. Many of those same teams we just steamrolled last week to win the TV belts. It sounds like you guys don’t want any part of us.” Scott: “Daniels. We’ll beat your ass anytime…anywhere.” Jackie: “Then let’s do it next week. MVWA 15. If you really think you can beat me and McGill, show us.” Casey and Scott confer. Scott: “Fine. We’ll do a non-title match next week. If you can beat us, we’ll put the belts on the line against you.” AoD turn and leave. Paige: “There you have it. Next week, our main event will be MVW Tag Team Champions Angels of Death against the Mercenaries- Dawn McGill and Jackie Daniels.”

Tessa: “Judith, who do you think will come out of this one?” Judith: “VIP are wrestling very well of late. I give them the edge.”

…Tessa: “Sky goes for a fireman’s carry but she can’t lift Sister Mary Marlboro. Sister Mary kicks Sky in the groin. She tags in Sister Sandy Scarboro.” Judith: “A nasty little parting shot there on the part of Sister Mary.” Tessa: “Sister Sandy gets right in there and suplexes Sky. Sky now back to her feet. Sister Sandy goes behind her…she slaps on a bearhug on Sky. This is a submission hold. Referee Ron Martin is checking to see what’s happening.” Judith: ”I doubt a bear hug will get the job done.” … Sister Sandy breaks the hold. Sky staggers over and tags in Brin. Tessa: “It’s VIP Brin’s turn. She comes out and clotheslines Sister Sandy. And now…Brin tags Sky back in. I don’t quite understand that.” Missy Halverson of the Star Trekkies hits Sister Sandy with a back fist. Sister Sandy pushes her down. Sister Mary throws in a chair…Sister Sandy lays the chair down. And then she decks Halverson with a right hand shot.” Halverson is pulled up on Sister Sandy Scarboro’s shoulders. Tessa: “Sister Sandy…Death Valley Driver on the chair! Halverson’s head hit the back of the chair and I think she’s out. Sister Sandy covers…1…2…3. The Star Trekkies are eliminated.” Judith: “Tremendous feat of strength there by Sister Sandy. But they’re not done yet.” Tessa: “No. Sister Sandy now has Sky in a side headlock. Watch out….Side Suplex on the chair!!” Judith: “The steel is unforgiving, Tessa, as you already know.” Tessa: “Now, Sister Sandy with another side headlock…reverse DDT directly onto the chair!!!” Judith: “Sky has got to get out of there.” Sister Sandy Scarboro wraps her arms around Sky and squeezes hard. Tessa: “Bearhug on VIP Sky. This time, she’s in real trouble.” Referee Ron Martin asks VIP Sky if she quits…she screams out ‘NO!” Tessa: “Sky is holding on…here comes Brin…OOOOH. Steel chairshot to the back of Sister Sandy and she breaks the hold.” Sister Sandy slingshots Sky to the floor.Tessa: “Sister Sandy in a lot of pain after that chairshot to the back.” Judith: “She never saw it coming, Tess.” Referee Martin starts the count (.1) (..2) Tessa: “Sky in the wrong part of town.” Sister Sandy clotheslines VIP Sky. (…3) Sister Mary sets a table up. She then lifts the exhausted Sky from behind. Tessa: “She got her up…face buster thru the table!!!” Sky lays in what’s left of the table. (….4) Tessa: “Forget it. VIP Sky isn’t moving. Sister Sandy Scarboro is already back in the ring, waiting for the count to hit 10. American Pi

…Tessa: “Corrina Romanov slingshots herself off the ropes…elbow drop to American Pi. Romanov is total control of this match.” Judith: “I hate to beat a dead horse, but really, American Pi is better suited for tag team or managerial work. She simply does not have the strength to stay with a Corrina Romanov.” Tessa: ”Romanov with the spinning mule kick on American Pi and I think you’re right, Judith. Pi really needs to get into managing. Elbowdrop by Romanov and how much more can American Pi take? THAT’S IT! ROMANOV’S GOT IT! THE INDIAN DEATHLOCK SUBMISSION! American Pi taps out.”

WINNER: CORRINA ROMANOV in 3:44

Tessa: “I think Corrina’s getting her groove back, Judith.” Judith: “Bad news potentially for the Television Champion.”

So this is it, the final post within Cool Britannia Week and what a week it’s been for British

So this is it, the final post within Cool Britannia Week and what a week it’s been for British WWE fans. It was brilliant, wasn’t it? I was super proud of all people from around the country who travelled to Sheffield and formed a formidable TV audience for Raw, ECW and Smackdown this week. As Jim Ross would say, ‘the world was watching’ and you did a fabulous job. Nothing kills a wrestling show more than a crowd who thinks they’re too cool to mark out. You proved you weren’t too cool. Wait, that came out wrong. But you know what I mean.

I was really hoping that at least one of the UK based fans I follow on Twitter would get on TV so I could post pictures of them in my Favourite Crowd Members of the Week spot. I don’t think many managed it, but if you did let me know when you were on. Someone who did get on TV, not just on one show but on both Raw and Smackdown was Mr. Nero1000. He and his crew were spotted by the cameras having a dance to Kofi’s entrance on Raw and poppin’ to R-Truth’s entrance on Smackdown. Also, according to some of the Twitpics I saw this week, they managed to get a few snaps taken with some of the wrestlers too. Jammy. Very jammy indeed. Jealous.

So, I salute you Nero1000 and Co. It’s tough enough managing to get on TV for one show. Getting on two deserves an award. I bestow this Favourite Crowd Members of the Week award on you now. It brings you great power and esteem. Be humble and keep being awesome. In other words, don’t eff it up! BRAVO!

Smackdown

==================================================================================

And there ends Cool Britannia Week. Sad, eh? I’m taking a few days off now. Mainly because you’ve had seven posts out of me this week. SEVEN! I’m not a machine. I need a little rest. Especially with Survivor Series next Sunday. But don’t panic. I’ll still recap next week’s Raw and Smackdown, and I’ve got one other thing up my sleeve. It’ll just be quiet for a few days. If you get bored you can always read one of the SEVEN posts from this past week. If you’ve already read them, why not read them again? They’re fantastic. I’m also very modest. Take it easy folks. Kiss-Kiss.
