TENN–When 6-year-old Jaquez McKinze was critically injured after being struck by a car at 300 North Willow Street, Officer Josh Wright made him a promise if Jaquez promised to get better.

Now that Jaquez is home with his family, Officer Wright fulfilled his end of that bargain recently spent the day with Jaquez as promised.

Jaquez’ recovery has been a giant hurdle to overcome after suffering a broken femur, collar and pelvic bone and puncturing one of his lungs in the accident.

He was hospitalized for two months during his recovery but he’s learning to triumph over his tragedy according to his mother, Kaynesha Steward.

“He’s moving a lot better and learning to communicate more,” Steward said. He still isn’t able to walk and is currently waiting on a wheel chair so that he can have more mobility.

Nonetheless, Steward said they’ve received numerous calls and well wishes on Jaquez’ recovery and that he’s anxious to go back to Orchard Knob Elementary to visit with friends.

Wright Township officials last week put off a vote on a request by Baker Hughes oil field services for a conditional use and zoning waiver that would allow the company to receive, store and ship radioactive material at a site in the Crestwood Industrial Park. Though the matter was on their agenda, supervisors said they wanted more information before voting on the zoning waiver. The issue could come up for a vote in December.

At a zoning hearing on Nov. 2, representatives of Baker Hughes said the company wants to receive and store tritium, cesium and americium for use in mining operations on the Marcellus Shale. They assured supervisors the radioactive material will be safely handled and poses no environmental risks. The materials will be tracked closely during delivery to and from the Crestwood site, and sealed on-site in bunkers nine feet underground with no chance of environmental impact, they said.

Wright on Time is fun learning book for kids.  My son and I sat and read a chapter or two a night together.  Sometimes He’ll read the right side of the page and I’ll read the left side.  It make it more fun.  This book had a lot of information about, gems, minerals, bats, and caves in general.

My son was especially excited over the tools the kids had to go exploring such as the hard hats and lights.  He learned a lot of new words and something about another place in the USA besides home.

I highly recommend this book to not just homeschooling parents and children but as a good family read.  We really enjoyed reading Wright on Time together and the bonding time is priceless.

Bargnani and the Raps should cruise tonight

A win tonight and the Raptors slip into the East’s last playoff spot with 67 games remaining! Still a ways to go, but we might as well start making a push now. The Pacers are in town tonight for a tilt at the ACC, tipping at seven. Check out the full preview at Raptors Republic, featuring my NBA 2k10 game sim.

It’s been an up-and-down year for the Pacers to say the least — after starting with three losses, they won five straight (including a homey over the LeBrons) but have since lost three, leaving them 5-6. Indiana is led by Danny Granger, a guy that shoots a ton and scores a lot, though I’m not so convinced he’s the type of guy that is gonna take a team too far as a number one scoring option (case in point: The Pacers kinda suck). Of course, it’ll also be fun to check out the infamous T.J. Ford, who’s averaged just 9.7 points and 2.6 assists in 11 games this season with a back and neck that are seemingly in tact. If you haven’t caught on by now, I’m not too high on the Pacers and don’t see why we shouldn’t beat them by 100 tonight.

If all goes according to plan, Toronto shouldn’t need Hedo Turkoglu come crunch time, which is good because he hasn’t crunched a thing in his first month as a Raptor. Still, it’d be nice to see the guy get it rolling tonight. The Raptors should also get a boost with Marco Belinelli and Antoine Wright supposedly ready to go, adding some punch to a second unit that has looked better with an improved Jarrett Jack at the helm.

I’ll be checking this one out live, so hopefully I’ll slide into some seats close enough to get a good perspective. Go Raps!

If you would give his ‘argument’ to someone who was from the Reformed tradition then I think they would be able to make it better than he does…

I am torn when I read him. He really has important things to say and we should listen. But it is the way that he says it. The way his writing sounds keeps him from being heard by the people he wants to hear him.

The continual shots at the ‘old perspective’ and the newness that he trumps is embraced more by the neophilia of young wannabe church planters with shallow theology than by those who stand on the shoulders of Luther and Calvin. It is frustrating.

We can and should talk about the corporate reality of salvation, our solidarity with Christ, the Abrahamic promise in reading Paul, and the Spirit in salvation without lumping it into ‘New Persepctivish’ thinking. That is the real danger here. The ’spit out the bones’ analogy hardly works because most people don’t want that many bones in their mouths to begin with. We’ll throw it all away and label it ‘bad.’ But, despite the sound of demeaning geocentric illustrations and the like, we still should spend the extra energy needed to hear.

Bosh and the Raps stare down Miami tonight

Ah yes, home sweet home. After seven of eight out west, the Raptors are back at the ACC tonight to face Dwyane Wade and the Heat. The boys escaped the trip at 2-5 (wins in New Orleans and LA) and sit at 5-7 on the year — to be honest, a mark I’m pretty, pretty pleased with at this point. As always, a full preview for tonight’s game is available at Raptors Republic, including my world-famous simulation.

Miami enters tonight’s game at 7-4, but don’t be deceived: The Heat’s schedule has been the opposite of Toronto’s — not to hate on the Knicks and Nets, but it’s been a walk in the park, highlighted by eight of 11 at home. With apologies to first-class citizen Jermaine O’Neal, the Heat really have nothing going for them aside from Wade. Case in point: The Band-Aid Man was 6-of-18 for 15 points in Atlanta Wednesday and Miami was pasted 105-90. If the Raptors can keep Wade from going out of his mind, this should be a comfortable win.

With “defensive stopper” Antoine Wright expected out for Toronto, the Raptors will be forced into throwing a host of defenders at Wade, none of which, I’m sure, will be Jose Calderon. With Udonis Haslem unlikely to dress for the Heat, Chris Bosh and Andrea Bargnani should be set for field days against O’Neal and big softy Michael “Supercool” Beasley. No excuses for Andrea — time to get back to work after a couple nightmarish games.

Coach Triano’s bizarre substitutions partly to blame for loss

It had the air of a preseason game by the start of the fourth quarter. Raptors head coach Jay Triano had 5 non starters on the court in an eight point deficit to the Denver Nuggets, losing 130 – 112 in an embarrassing display of poor defense and severe bench mismanagement.

Carmelo Anthony, Kenyon Martin and Nene Halario accumulated 67 of the Nuggets 130 points, completely dominating the Raptors starters at both ends of the floor. J.R Smith also had an impressive 29 points off the bench in just 21 minutes of playing time.

The loss was another defensive collapse by the Raptors who have now allowed 109 points per game, 2nd worst in the league. It also showed Triano’s potential weakness as a coach as key players like Rasho Nesterovich played just 8 minutes while Nugget big men were scoring easily in the paint. Demar Derozan had a good night on paper, but his 17 total points came when the score didn’t matter and Anthony schooled the rookie for most of the night. Anthony was suffering from a migraine headache and still managed to dominate Toronto at both ends.

“My legs could work,” Anthony said. “As long as I could run up and down that court, I was good. One of those Doug Moe games. It ended in the third quarter, though. In the first half, we were trying to outscore them. We was going bucket for bucket. We got together at halftime and told each other we didn’t want to play like that. In the third quarter, we played old Denver Nugget basketball, getting up and down the court in transition, playing defense . It was easy for us.”

The Nuggets also managed to cool down Bosh’s game, holding the Raptors forward to just 13 points. Bosh still managed to put up a double-double by grabbing 14 rebounds, his eighth of the season – but his inside game disappeared and Triano’s team settled for jumpers while allowing the Nuggets to score almost at will.

“They were physical on Chris Bosh, they were bumping him all night and he only got two free throws,” Triano said. Denver head coach George Karl had the same thought.

“Keeping Bosh under control was huge,” Karl said. “Maybe they went away from him some, but it seemed like he never got a personality.”

The Raptors are now 5 – 6 and play the Jazz in Utah tonight.

Winter 2010/2011 - Gregory is 32, Nina is 29, and Reagan is 2. (Rachel Heredon is 30, Fabrice Lemieux is 27) Last update: Spring 2010

7 am: Once, a long time ago, Nina would have whined if she had to be awake and alert before 11 am. She had loved the simple luxury of laying in bed until she decided to get up and not the insistent car horn from a coworker trying to make it to work on time. She’d dreamed of being a rich important somebody’s wife, a doctor then, and looked forward to the many days of lazing in a giant bed but dreams tend to skew when they hit reality.

Nina is married to her rich important somebody but she tosses and turns when he leaves their bed to get ready for work. She can’t sleep without the weight of his arm around her waist and she’s learned to not punish him with sleeping on the couch because by 3 am he’s slipping into bed to their mutual relief.

She listens to Alexa play with Reagan and smiles softly at her domestic little life. Instead of recovering from a long night of partying and charming, Nina’s up early–on a Saturday–making pancakes for her children. She laughs at herself, enjoying her happiness, before remembering that there is one major flaw to her ideal weekend. Gregory isn’t home — he’s never home on weekends anymore.

Her father would laugh if he could hear her thoughts, loud with disbelief and a hint of cruelty. Papa would puff on his hand rolled cigarette, tug on his Panama hat and give his constant advice: the best husband is a rich, absentee one; never complain when he’s gone because those will be the best moments of your married life. Her parents’ advice might have landed her a husband but it couldn’t guide her now that she’s gone off the script.

11 am: Nina finds peace at the gym. She likes to lose herself in the repetitive action of the stationary bike and allow her mind to wander free. She doesn’t know why but it feel like a storm in gathering, ready to wash away her new life.  Nina doesn’t like to think about her past, only allowing brief moments for it to pop into her daily thoughts but she knows there is only one person that could ruin everything for her.

What if she tries to find her? What if Dina does find her and reveals all her secrets, would Gregory forgive her or would he throw her out and take their children away? Her stomach drops sharply and Nina’s forced to rest her head on the control panel to push back the nausea. She wishes she could tell Gregory the truth but he’s so fragile — his need for absolute trust in those he holds close so central to his being that Nina knows revealing herself would destroy much more than their family.

She abandons the bike for the ballet bar and in a contradictory act tries to grasp onto her past self and present life at the same time: ballet is the only place the two ever meet. Nina had not this life when it was first offered to her. She’d know right away that Gregory was a man looking for love, marriage, children: all the things she had been taught to scoff at if it wasn’t attached to money but he’d had money, lots of it, and Nina had only done what her parents raised her to do.

She’d known not to fall in love with him, that was the easy part. Don Lothario had broken her heart and she was well versed in saying empty affections  that she’s easily moved from girlfriend to fiancée to wife to mother of his child without feeling a twinge of the emotion.

It was only on Alexa’s first birthday when she was staring across a giant cake that Nina realized that she loved him, a man full of rigid rules and a soft heart. Nina had never known you could fall in love when you aren’t looking and now she’s stuck loving this man, loving their little family and hoping that although the clouds are there it never rains.

1 pm: By the time the meeting start Nina has firmly locked away her past, at least for that day. Being around these women, who controlled the gate doors to higher society, Nina knows nothing of her past can remain. With them she’s Nina Wright, wife of Gregory Alexander Wright heir to the philanthropic Wright family, and that means she belongs to their exclusive circle of money and status. She wouldn’t be a Caliente if a part of her didn’t shiver with excitement every time she goes to one of these meetings and today she’s hosting one.

“Have you thought about inviting the orchestra Nina? I know Gregory is a fan of the movements the Philharmonic is performing now and they haven’t been invited the perform in Heredon Cove for four years”

Nina nods at Rachel’s suggestion, mentally counting the seconds so that she appears to give it great thought but she already knows who she wants to invite. She always enjoys helping with the preparations to plan the annual charity benefit, but this year its even more important to her because it’s her turn to head the committee.

“I like that idea Rachel,” Nina starts and she can see the other women around them nodding with approval before she has a chance to finish. “However, three months ago Gregory and I had the chance to see this new ballet company on the mainland and I think they would be perfect for the charity event.”

There is a brief moment of tense silence before Meagan Sterling nods her head in approval, a smile ghosting over her face. “That is a excellent idea Nina and most people on the Cove love the ballet, pretentious culture is kind of our thing. I’m sure the tickets will sell out within a week.”

Dana Heller agrees, absentmindedly smoothing down her headband. “We’re an island of culture-whores, if I can say it tactlessly.”

The younger women laugh at her bluntness but Laura Bullard does not, sternly reprimanding them. “Language like that is neither appropriate nor befitting your position in life. Two of you are raising our future committee members and the other two of you I helped mentor through your cotillion, please try to behave. I’m shudder to think about how you would act if I wasn’t here.”

Nina tries to look properly reprimanded but struggles to hold back laughter when she catches Dana’s eyes.

They wait until Mrs. Bullard leaves the dining room before laughing quietly.

“I hear Mr. Bullard is on a business trip to to Hawaii with his secretary…his twenty-three year old secretary.” Nina smiles when they all turn to look at her, hungry for more information. “Just a little tidbit I picked up at the courthouse the other day.”

Meagan and Dana immediately start whispering about the things they would do if their husband decided to go on vacation with their secretary and Nina nods sagely, keeping an ear our for Mrs. Bullard’s return but also watching Rachel out the corner of her eye. Rachel’s face is tight with tension and Nina fights the urge to sigh, instead clasping her friend’s hand under the table. She could not imagine what it would be like to be married to such a fool.

7 pm: It’s late when she takes Alexa to the park, leaving Gregory home to care for their son. It’s Saturday so none of Gregory’s silly rules count and Nina is happy to watch her little girl run off and play. She is amused to find out that her opponent for a game of darts like to recite French poetry to help the time pass by.

“L’Amour croit par l’exemple, et vit d’illusions. Belles, étudiez ces tendres fictions…Que les poëtes saints, en leurs douces ivresses,.. Inventent dans la joie aux bras de leurs maîtresses.”

Nina raises an eyebrow as she prepares to throw a dart. “Trouble with love?

The man dips in head in agreement. “Oui, what other trouble does a Frenchman know?”

She has to smile at that statement and is silently satisfied to see that she’s made a good hit. Nina finds him intriguing, having never seen him at the park before and she is more than willing to play amateur psychiatrist to avoid her own problem. “What’s the problem? Is she married?”

“Very much so and very unhappily because he has no money.”

Nina pauses before taking her next shot, listening to his short phrases of French poetry and assessing the man’s obviously expensive clothes. They were a few seasons out of style but still very well made. “Why then does she stay? Why does she not leave with  her rich, French lover?”

“They share a small child and her husband is sure to die without her love.”

She starts to laugh at his exaggeration and comment that the lover never cares but she notices the wounded look in his blue eyes and the way he plays with his ring — a wedding band. Their eyes meet for a second and confirm what Nina’s starting to guess: that he’s the wronged husband. She isn’t sure what to say and the darts hang loose in her hands.

He looks away and checks the board before offering her an out. “Best two out of three?”

11 pm: Nina settles into bed enjoying the soft pressure of Gregory’s arm around her waist and the sweet smell of baby powder coming from Reagan. She tries to chase sleep but her mind is caught by the story and the presence of the man in the park. He seemed so broken, would Gregory become like that if the truth came out ? Would he become that lost?

A shudder runs through her body and pulls Gregory out of the first stages of sleep.

“You’re not sleeping.”

She shakes her head and presses her body closer to his. “I have a lot on my mind, it won’t let me sleep.”

Gregory sighs and places a kiss on the back of her neck. “Here’s something funny you can spin around your brain. Jayden came to see me today and asked if you had dyed your hair blonde.”

“What?” Her voice is sharper than she intends and Nina rubs Reagan’s back as he starts to stir.

“Isn’t that ridiculous? Like you would ruin your hair by dying it blonde, but he swears the woman looks just like you only with blonde hair. I could not stop laughing.”

Nina lays there listening to Gregory laugh and isn’t surprised when it starts to pour outside.

A.N: I’m alive. very much alive. I have clawed my way out of the midterm abyss and managed to make it back here. I’m in my Masters year so every test is not a test but a major project so I had no time to pretend to play the game. I couldn’t even bust out this update even though half the picture were already taken. Mea culpa

I try not to have a favorite family in the Cove but I’m fascinated by Nina and Gregory’s relationship. Is is weird to be fascinated by a relationship of your own creation? I tried to do a day in the life of thing with Nina here and I hope it worked. I like adding the little time stamps to it and its just seemed like an interesting take. I’m trying to set the stage for Dina’s entrance into their lives but I’m not sure its going to be in this year yet. I want to wind Nina up just a bit more.

If you couldn’t recognize the Frenchman that’s Fabrice and the poem he’s reciting is “The Art of Love” by André Chénier. The section translates “Love believes by example and lives of illusions./ Fair, consider these tender fiction/ That the poets saints, in their sweet intoxication,/Invent joy in the arms of their mistresses.” That scene really just came out of the blue and worked with my idea to start connecting these families to each other in different ways.

Sidenote: Laura asked last month about the Heredon boys and I figured I should answer now instead of waiting for their update. John and Arthur are brothers, Sam is their distant cousin. They can trace their lineage back to common ancestors but in the game they don’t have a family flag.

Rick Wright Leaves £24 Million Details of the late Rick Wright’s will have been revealed to show that Rick left around £24 Million, the majority going to his children, James, 42, Gala, 39, and Ben, 17. None of Rick’s three former wives (Juliette, Franka and Millie) were mentioned in the will. Rick also made arrangements in the will for ‘a really good party’ to be held for his friends – putting aside £20,000 with a guest list to be drawn up by James and Gala. They were also left their father’s house in Le Rouret, in south east France. Gala also inherited Rick’s prized Aston Martin DB5, and he left his cherished Bosendorfer piano to his son-in-law bassist Guy Pratt. The moral rights to his musical, literary and performance work were left to his children. (Pictured, Rick with former wife Millie & son Ben in happier times).

David Gilmour In Recording Studio? Alex Paterson from electronic music group The Orb, in a statement to The List said ‘I’ve just started work on an album with David Gilmore from Pink Floyd which I think every Orb and Pink Floyd fan will want to hear.’ Our investigations continue! UPDATE: David’s official site has announced that David has done some recording with The Orb and producer Youth, inspired initially by the plight of Gary McKinnon. They say that nothing is finalised, and nothing has been confirmed with regards to any structure for the recordings or firm details regarding any release plans.

Ugh, I’m stuck in bed sick and the only things I have to do are to blog, play Dissidia, and watch courtroom shows. I hope I get better by tomorrow. I’m only into the second week of school, so I don’t want to stay home. Though, I don’t want to go to school with a snotty nose either. Bleh! Plus, I still didn’t get that corn dog I’ve wanted for weeks… >/

Anywho, I’m sure everyone has heard of the newest addition to the Ace Attorney video game series, Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth. The game was released in Japan on May 28, 2009 for the Nintendo DS. It apparently is scheduled for release on February 16, 2009 in North America, but I’m not sure if that’s set in stone yet.

Ace Attorney Investigations features Miles Edgeworth as the main protagonist of the game accompanied by Kay Faraday (as Maya and Trucy were to Phoenix and Apollo repectively) and Dick Gumshoe helping him out along the way. Edgeworth’s rival, Shiryuu Rou, is an international investigator. The game takes place some months after Trials & Tribulations.

So, Mr. Edgeworth is finally getting his time to shine without pissing off the player with his constant “Objection!” Though personally, the von Karma’s were the biggest pains in my arse. Surprisingly, according to Motohide Eshiro (the super duper producer), Ema Skye was originally picked to be the main character, but fan-feedback led to the more glimmerous Miles Edgeworth. Personally, I wouldn’t have minded running around as Ema, but only if Herr Klavier was in the game.

The gameplay in AAI:MJ is basically the player controlling lil’ Edgy’s movements and what he interacts with. Generally a point-and-click game rather than the original Ace Attorney’s somewhat interactive novel-type feel. The end goal is to solve the various cases through the collection of evidence in order to determine the perpetrator, how the crime was executed, and their motive. I always felt more like a detective than a defense attorney playing Phoenix Wright and Apollo Justice and AAI:MJ just seems to intensify that feeling. If they had stuck with Ema, it would’ve made more sense, but it’s Edgeworth so I’m not complaining.

A more in depth look at the investigation phases consists of collecting evidence from the crime scene, examining it and then examining the crime scene itself. Evidence and profiles are still viewable and are located in the Organizer and “logic” is used to examine information on the crime scene.

“Logic” consists of linking key factors and clues found in various crime scenes in order to answer any questions which may appear during investigations. If two factors are linked incorrectly, the player’s life bar takes damage. Confrontations consist of discussing the results of an investigation with key characters in the plot’s development. These confrontations may lead to new information being revealed, or even a confession from the murderer. Both of these systems can be compared to those used in older Ace Attorney games, such as Phoenix’s Magatama.

During investigation, players have the option of using either the touch screen or the D-Pad to move around and control Edgeworth. When an examinable oject or NPC is encountered, the option to either “Talk” or “Check” is displayed and can be selected with the “A” button.

Another new feature included in investigations is the “crime reproduction gadget,” a handheld device in the possession of Kay’s. It utilizes current information and evidence to form holograms in order to create a reproduction of the crime. Pretty handy in helping characters to find contradictions in the events of a crime.

Like every Ace Attorney game, you start out with one case and in order to unlock a new one, the current case needs to be solved. Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth features a total of five cases: “Turnabout Visitor,” “Turnabout Airlines,” “Swept Away Turnabout,” “Departed Turnabout,” and “Turnabout Up in Flames.”

Cases:
I won’t give away what any of the cases are about because some people would take that as spoiling, so I’ll just mention any appearances made by former Ace Attorney characters. If you don’t even want to know that, just skip this paragraph.
° Dick Gumshoe plays a big part in “Turnabout Visitor.” Maggey Byrde and Winston Payne also make an appearance. Looks like Winston Payne is still staying true to appearing in every single first case of every single Ace Attorney game, to the dismay of some…
° The ever so attractive Sal Manella and Franziska Von Karma make an appearance in “Turnabout Airlines,” another case involving a Borginian. Aw, that makes me miss Machi…
° “Swept Away Turnabout” features an amusement park, “Bando-Land,” themed around the Blue Badger and Pink Badger. Besides most of the main characters being introduced in this case, we also see Mike Meekins, Wendy Oldbag, and Ema Skye.
° “Departed Turnabout” is set 7 years before the first case, where Edgeworth meets his mentor Manfred von Karma, as well as a young Franziska von Karma, and the Judge. Edgeworth’s assistant, Kay Faraday, also makes an appearance as a younger version of herself.
° In “Turnabout Up in Flames” we see many old faces. A Pink Princess and Steel Samurai convention is being held and Larry Butz, Lotta Hart, and Wendy Oldbag make an appearance. We also see a Mask DeMasque II and the Jammin’ Ninja.

A demo of the game was first made available at the Tokyo Game Show, where it received the most attention of any portable game at the show, based on a Famitsu survey of 55 companies that were present. During the week of its initial release, Ace Attorney Investigations sold 172,000 units in Japan, and 42,000 the following week. The game was the 2nd best selling DS title in Japan for both weeks, trailing Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. (Another game I’m looking forward to.)

All in all, I love Edgeworth and I’m a huge follower of the Ace Attorney series, so I’ll definitely be adding this one to my collection as soon as it becomes available. Although, what I REALLY can’t wait for is the next installment in the main Ace Attorney series, which was announced by Capcom’s president on May 22, 2007 to currently be in production.
