A Detroit man was charged Tuesday with threatening the lives of football great Jerome Bettis and others in letters he mailed over a four-year span.

Leon Desmond Barrett, 37, is charged with mailing threatening communications. He has yet to appear in U.S. District Court in Detroit.

“I don’t want to talk about it,” Barrett said when reached Tuesday at his Detroit home.

According to a criminal complaint, Barrett sent about 14 threatening letters to the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell between 2006 and this past April.

Some of the letters referred to an alleged dispute between Barrett and Bettis and his family. “We do not want to have a gunfight with them but if we have to, we will,” said one of the hand-written letters.

“I guess it (sic) going to be another Virginia Tech. massacre all over again in Detroit.”

A letter dated Aug. 18, 2007, said: “I’m getting ready to start killing some more people. Beyonce, Jay-Z, Jerome Bettis and Tune-up Man are the first 4 people I’m getting ready to kill.”

Beyonce and Jay-Z are recording artists. The Tune-up Man is the handle used by a Detroit radio deejay.

Similar letters were sent in 2009 to former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino, in care of the Hall of Fame, and former University of Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz, though threats against Marino and Holtz were not made, the complaint said.

Most of the letters bore Barrett’s signature and home address, the complaint alleges.

Detroit-born Bettis was a star at Mackenzie High School. The running back won a Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers at Ford Field in Detroit in 2006. He also played at Notre Dame under Holtz.

Bettis could not be reached for comment.

Hiphopwired.com-Four boys ranging from ages 9 to 14 took turns raping an 8-year-old girl behind a shed for more than 10 minutes. Phoenix police say it’s the one of the most horrific cases they’ve seen.

According to the Associated Press, the incident sparked further outrage after police said the victim’s parents blamed her for the attack and shaming the family.

As if the trauma of being raped and having to live with the scars isn’t enough, her punk-ass father adds insult to injury, literally.

“The father told the caseworker and an officer in her presence that he didn’t want her back. He said, ‘Take her, I don’t want her,’ “police Sgt. Andy Hill said. When the father was asked by local reporters what he thought should be done to the boys who raped her daughter, he answered plainly, “Nothing.”

Maricopa County Attorney’s Office confirmed Wednesday, the 14-year-old boy, Steven Tuopeh, has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and kidnapping. The assailant appeared in court on July 23 and is currently being held without bond.

The other boys who raped the little girl- ages 9, 10 and 13 were charged as juveniles with sexual assault. The 10 and 13-year-olds were also charged with kidnapping.

Phoenix investigators said the boys coaxed her into an empty shed with bubblegum offerings on July 16. The boys held the girl down while they took turns raping her, police said.

“She was brutally sexually assaulted for a period of about 10 to 15 minutes,” Hill said.

Officers responding to a call reporting a girl screaming hysterically found the girl partially undressed and the young punks running from the scene.

“This is a deeply disturbing case that has gripped our community,” Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas said Thursday. “Our office will seek justice for the young victim in this heartrending situation.”

The victim and the pre-pubescent rapists are all refugees from the West African nation of Liberia. Hill believes the family’s African culture is why the girl’s father has disowned her.

In some parts of the “Motherland,” woman are faulted for rape and often believed to have enticed the pervert so much, he has to rape her. Ultimately, women who are raped are shunned by their families.

“It’s a shame-based culture, so the crime is not as important as protecting the family name and the name of the community,” said Tony Weedor, a Liberian refugee in Littleton, Colorado. “I just feel so sorry for this little girl. Some of these people will not care about the trauma she’s going through – they’re more concerned about the shame she brought on the family.”

The little girl, now in Child Protective Services, is going to have a particularly difficult time healing said Paul Penzone of Childhelp, a group who cares for young victims of crimes.

“These four boys used what was a ploy to entice her to a place where they could take advantage of her almost like a pack of wolves,” he said.

“And what’s so disturbing beyond the initial crime is the fact that a child needs to have somewhere to feel safe, and you would think that would be in a home with her own family,” not in state custody, Penzone said.

This poor girl is forever scarred by the sexual assault she suffered and now the trauma of being rejected by her family. Shame on all four of those boys and her father…they should all be bent over several times and plugged and then see how it feels to be “shamed.”

You can still see the horrifying effects of botched plastic surgery on a woman who says “it’s a nightmare that doesn’t seem to end.”

But in the case of the woman we’ll call Mary, who asked that her real name not be used to protect her privacy, there is no doctor at fault. She only has herself to blame.

“It’s very embarrassing that somebody would actually do this,” she admitted. “Insane, I can’t believe I did what I did.”

In search of an inexpensive, do-it yourself version of a silicone injection she had gotten from a doctor to smooth a scar, the Midwestern mother injected her lips and face with silicone she purchased over the Internet.

At first she thought she’d hit the beauty jackpot.

“I actually felt pretty proud of myself. I thought this is a cheap way to go, it looks good,” she said. “This one Web site had it for $10 for a bottle.”

But within 24 hours those desired results quickly turned into a before and after nightmare.

“By the following day it was just completely inflamed my whole face and the area that you can see in the cheek was very raised and very infected,” she said. “It expands, it’s like rubber and your own collagen is forming scar tissue around it…it just looked like horrible blisters.”

The silicone procedure was nothing new to Mary. For nearly $1,000 a plastic surgeon had injected it into her face once before to help fade a scar from an accident. But what he used what medical-grade silicone, and what Mary purchased wasn’t medical grade and was labeled as a personal lubricant.

“At the time I thought it would be okay,” she said. “I thought most of it would come out of the face and the lips and very little of it would actually stay in there. I never dreamt this would happen.”

Mary acknowledged she thought it would be alright to inject herself with silicone because she’d seen a doctor do it.

“It’s only a select few people who can afford to have this done,” she said, citing the expense of treatments such as Botox and wrinkle fillers like Restylane and Juvederm. “That’s hundreds of dollars every time you have it done and it’s not permanent. Who can afford that?”

PHILADELPHIA — A porn star who was accused of using a handsaw and an ax to break into stores through their rooftops while his twin brother and occasional co-star acted as a lookout is going to prison for at least three years.

Taleon Goffney, who appeared with his brother in such gay skin flicks as “Marc and the Twins,” was arrested last year after police said they saw the twins breaking into a beauty shop.

He pleaded guilty to two counts each of burglary and criminal conspiracy and was sentenced to three to eight years. Charges including criminal trespass, receiving stolen property and possession of an instrument of crime were dropped in exchange for his pleas.

Goffney, 27, could have faced up to 40 years in prison if convicted after trial.

“Thank you for your lenience in accepting my plea,” Goffney, of Pennsauken, N.J., told a judge in court Wednesday. “These crimes won’t be happening again.”

Goffney’s twin brother, Keyontyli Goffney, also is charged and appeared at Wednesday’s hearing, but it was unclear if he planned to negotiate a plea. He’s due back in court Aug. 6. Neither his lawyer, Gerald Stein, nor Assistant District Attorney Caroline Keating immediately returned telephone calls from The Associated Press on Thursday.

Keating told the Philadelphia Daily News that Taleon Goffney is sure to serve at least the minimum three years due to his prior criminal record. Goffney’s lawyer, Michael F. Gushue, told the newspaper that his client plans to complete his college education while in prison.

“I think he’s had an epiphany,” Gushue said. “He’s a bright young man.”

A southern Georgia man, Frank Hatley, spent the last year of his life in jail for being a deadbeat dad and neglecting to pay child support, perhaps the most startling detail, he doesn’t have any children.

According to CNN, with assistance form the Southern Center for Human Rights,  Hatley was released from the Cook County Jail in South Georgia on Wednesday (July 15) afternoon.

Dane Perkins, a Superior Court Judge, said Hatley should not have been jailed for not being able to pay child support after he had fallen upon hard times. Perkins delayed the decision on whether the 50-year-old should have to make back payment for a child that is not his.

In June of lat year, Hatley was sent to jail for failing to reimburse the state for public assistance that as paid to support what was believed to be his son. At that time, the court was not aware the “son” was not his.

Sarah Geraghty, Hatley’s attorney who filed a motion for his release, labeled the terms of his case “blatant unfairness.”

Hatley is a hard-working man who demonstrated his desire to pay what the court said he owed, even making payments from his unemployment checks, Geraghty told CNN.

On top of that, “the state has no legitimate reason to pursue Mr. Hatley for child support — he doesn’t have any children,” she said.

The story began in 1986, when Hatley had a relationship with Essie Lee Morrison. At some point in the relationship, she became pregnant and gave birth to a son.

Morrison told Hatley that the child was his, however,  the couple parted ways shortly after the child was born, according to court documents. The documents also reveal the couple never married and never lived together.

When the boy turned 2, Morrison applied for public support for her son. Under Georgia law, the state can pursue the non-custodial parent to recover assistance funds.

For 13 years, Hatley made payments to the state until 2000, when he learned the boy might not be his biological son. A DNA test confirmed Hatley was not the father.

Hatley returned to court and was relieved of any future child support reimbursement, however, be was ordered to pay more than $16,000 that he had owed the state before the ruling.

An attorney who represented Hatley in that hearing, Latesha Bradley,  said the argument for keeping Hatley liable for the back payments was that he had signed a consent agreement with the office of child support services. The court ruled that Hatley was required to comply with the original consent agreement for the time he believed the boy was his son.

Court documents show that Hatley continued to make payments. In 2006, he was jailed for six months for falling behind on payments during a period of unemployment, but afterward he resumed making payments and continued to do so even after he lost another job in 2008 and became homeless.

Last year, he again became unable to maintain the payments and was once again jailed.

The circumstances of Hatley’s arrest resonated with many, including Cook County Sheriff Johnny Daughtrey.

“I knew the gentleman’s plight and didn’t know how to help him,” Daughtrey said.

“On the photographs of Michael Jackson, it looks like there was necrosis on his lower leg where there might have been fluid that went into his lower leg,” a possible result of an IV that had leaked into the leg, Dr. Debra Jaliman, a leading dermatologist and spokeswoman for the American Academy of Dermatologists, told ABC News.

“It looks like there are multiple puncture points from IV placement,” she said.

The wound seen in the photos, which were taken in 2002, could have been a result of contact with highly caustic, acidic fluid that would burn the skin and cause it to turn black, Jaliman said.

“If, in fact, he had an IV here, and the IV fluid, which may have been acidic fluid, went into his skin, it might may have, in fact, destroyed the skin,” she said. “That’s all dead skin that would then make an ulceration underneath that skin.”

In the photos, Jaliman highlighted areas of blue discoloration in Jackson’s leg and puncture marks, which she said point to needle entry.

Looking at the Mom, I can already tell that part of this is her fault, because why is she pulling a police officer from his work to help handle an arguement with her own daughter at a fucking PARK!? But, a taser to the head just because she was walking away!? WTF OF THE DAY!!!!

Ryan Reynolds has been cast as Hal Jordan in the new Green Lantern movie. I understand that he’s becoming more popular but… meh. He’s so very, very meh. He just doesn’t feel like Hal Jordan. There’s something in the shape of his head (and how it looks disproportionately big on his body) that has never sat well with me.

Bradley Cooper, Jared Leto and Justin Timberlake also did screen tests for the movie but Reynolds ultimately got the role. And again, none of them particularly feels like Hal Jordan and they don’t really look like any of his comic or cartoon incarnations, do they?

This casting is puzzling.

We’ve just learned Michael Jackson has died. He was 50.

Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon at his Holmby Hills home and paramedics were unable to revive him. We’re told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back.

A source tells us Jackson was dead when paramedics arrived.

Once at the hospital, the staff tried to resuscitate him but he was completely unresponsive.

We’re told one of the staff members at Jackson’s home called 911.

La Toya ran in the hospital sobbing after Jackson was pronounced dead.

Michael is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince “Blanket” Michael Jackson II.

The 20-minute video posted on YouTube by Manifested Glory Ministries is being called abuse by gay and youth advocates, who are demanding an investigation. But a church official this week denied that the teenager was injured or that the church is prejudiced.

“We believe a man should be with a woman and a woman should be with a man,” the Rev. Patricia McKinney told The Associated Press. “We have nothing against homosexuals. I just don’t agree with their lifestyle.”

The church posted the video on YouTube but has since removed it; it is still available on some Web sites that copied it. The church declined to make the video available for distribution by The Associated Press.

 A Glendale, Arizona man confessed to killing his family by calling 911 and informing the dispatcher that he sang a song of hip hop artist Eminem as he stabbed his entire family.

Michael Brian Miller, 29, took the lives of his wife Adriana Miller and 10 year-old daughter Valeria. His 4 year-old son Brian was stabbed 11 times and survived.

In a phone call which took place on May 30th, Michael Miller can be heard telling the dispatcher, “I just killed my family with a knife. All of them. All three of them.”

Miller also goes on to state that he sung lyrics to Eminem’s song and killed his two children after they woke up to their mother screaming who he referred to as a demon as the two were in a dispute in reports. Miller says that during the dispute he was threatening her with a knife.

“I was threatening my wife, and my kids came out, and I killed my wife and I killed both my kids.”

Michael Miller stated that he had prayed with Brian and tucked him in the bed prior to the incident and stabbed him more times because he loved him most.

According to reports, Miller is stated to be bipolar and schizophrenic and attempted to kill himself at least once.

In the audio, the dispatcher asked Michael Miller if he had ever had any type of thoughts of doing this before and he responded, “Never, never, ever, ever… It just hit me like a brick in the face.” He goes on to state that he doesn’t even know why he did it and he has no valid reason.

“I am not myself,” stated Miller. “I’m… I am… I’m possessed.”

Miller is reported to have been charged with 2 counts of first degree murder and 1 count of attempted murder for the stabbing of his wife, daughter and son.

Meanwhile, Miller’s 4 year-old son Brian, who survived the horrific ordeal, is recovering in the hospital.
