Most things in psychology seem to boil down to childhood, so I think my family would be a good start

Most things in psychology seem to boil down to childhood, so I think my family would be a good starting point in condensing my whole personality into one blog post. I have two older brothers and no sisters so I always had a big male influence in my life. My family is close and so I have always looked up to my brothers and tried to impress them. This is probably the reason for my boyish interests and tastes. I spent my childhood watching X-men, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, WWF and Star Wars, and these tastes have carried on throughout life. But that didn’t stop me enjoying the girly side of childhood too. Put a young boy or a young girl in a room full of toys and the majority of them will go towards the ones typical of their gender. There is a reason for those stereotypes. Put me in a toy shop and I went straight for the dolls, but that didn’t stop me playing with my brothers Lego and Action Figures as well. We have pictures of me wearing a frilly pink dress and fairy wings whilst wrestling with my brothers. Doesn’t everyone?

My brothers used to tease me about my girly interest (I think they wanted another brother – they even tried to name me Max). There’s one birthday list I remember which contained the likes of Bring It On, Crossroads, Save The Last Dance and Charlie’s Angels on DVD that received a lot of teasing, but rightly so. And their teasing even resulted in me hiding my love of Take That from them in primary school, although I’ve later discovered that they were hiding their love of them too – hence the teasing. But that was surprisingly rare and I feel very lucky to have them as brothers. I have some very fond memories of them taking me to see Spice World The Movie one summer and helping me put on shows to our parents when I’d spent the day making up a dance. They never discouraged me from acting like a girl, they just wanted their sister to be cool.

So I always had people around who were willing to attempt to teach me how to do kick ups (not that I ever succeeded with more than 3) but no one to teach me how to apply make-up and give me advice on boys. My mum was never really interested in make-up and, to my knowledge, she was more interested in reading and ballet then she was in boys and partying when she was younger. I think that this male influence is not only the reason for me getting on better with guys but has also resulted in my yearning to stay feminine. I spent my younger years looking longingly at the pretty, blonde girls that all the boys fancied, who knew how to wear make-up and knew how to flirt. I wanted to be like that but my attempts at make-up left me looking more like a clown and the boys always fancied my friends over me. Apparently being able to punch as hard as them wasn’t as high up in their girlfriend priorities as you’d have thought. Still isn’t actually.

I’ll leave it there for now. Next Why am I a guy’s girl? post….my schooldays. Sounds rivoting I know.

Video promocional del DVD “My Life My Rules”

The latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that WWE has “given up” on pushing Jack Swagger to superstardom as he has not quite panned out as officials had initially hoped.

When he first showed up on the WWE scene a little over a year ago, “The All-American American” was pegged as the future of the company due to his tremendous size. Nowadays, he’s considered a comedy figure ranked slightly lower than Chavo Guerrero on the Raw pecking order. Furthermore, some feel he’s in danger of becoming “this year’s Chris Masters.”

After witnessing Sheamus’s clean pin on Intercontinental Champion John Morisson at Survivor Se

After witnessing Sheamus’s clean pin on Intercontinental Champion John Morisson at Survivor Series, I was sure that the push behind the Celtic Warrior had been thrown into high gear. I didn’t realize just how high a gear, however, until last Monday’s RAW, where Sheamus won a “Breakthrough Battle Royal” to become the number one contender for John Cena’s WWE Championship.

The Breakthrough battle royal was the brain child of RAW’s guest GM Jesse Ventura. It was great to see the Body turned Governor back on WWE TV, and creative made the right choice in giving him lots of mic time. At the top of the show, Ventura confronted a disgruntled Randy Orton and told him that neither Orton nor any other former world champions (and perpetual main eventers) would be getting the next shot at Cena’s title. He proclaimed that, instead, up and coming talent would face off against one another in qualification matches, and the winners would compete in a battle royal for a shot at the belt.

The qualification matches were predictable and rushed. Some of them could have been good (Kofi Kingston V.S. Dolph Ziggler for instance), had they been given more time and the slightest build up. In the end the battle royal’s participants were: Kingston, MVP, Mark Henry, R Truth, Cody Rhodes, Ted Dibiase, Sheamus, and Randy Orton, who despite his status as former champion (and played-out Cena rival) so impressed Ventura with his tenacity and determination to be included in the BR, that the Governor granted his wish.

Sheamus came out victorious. Ventura then climbed into the ring and oversaw an immediate contract signing between the big Irishman and John Cena, to make the title match official. Cena performed well at the signing. At first he sat smirking on his side of the table, projecting a nearly dismissive attitude toward the new number one contender, and in doing so, he certainly echoed the attitudes of many fans, who feel Sheamus’s skyrocketing to superstardom is way premature. Eventually, though, Cena responded to Sheamus’s demands to be taken seriously, rising form his seat and displaying great intensity, as he laid out to the Irishman exactly how tough a fight he was in for.

From there the segment got sloppy… and a little confusing. Ventura unexpectedly and not too convincingly began heeling on the champ. He explained that, as a performer whose refusal to compromise and conform kept him form reaching the highest tier in WWE, he resented Cena, a man who got to the top by looking the part and doing what he was told. It would have been a compelling angle, had the show given Ventura more than a few seconds to play it out.

As Ventura’s dressing down of the champ continued, Cena gave his full attention to the Governor. And Sheamus took the opportunity to nail Cena with a boot to the face. A brief assault followed and culminated with the rookie putting the champion through a table (par for the course with contract signings).

So it looks like Sheamus is no longer “on his way” but has arrived. Twenty-four hours after pinning cleanly the IC Champion, he won a battle royal full of more established stars, was named number one contender for WWE’s most hallowed prize, and wrapped up the day’s work by standing over the broken body of the company’s top face. It was a big moment. It should have been even bigger… but something was missing, not only from the story of Sheamus’s rise to prominence, but from the character of Sheamus itself. I think I’ve pinpointed what that missing something is: Confidence. There should have been a sneer of sinister triumph occasioning the big man’s face. Instead, however, his was a look of nervousness poorly veiled. One did not need to be watching in High Definition to notice the rookie’s bewilderment at his own circumstances.

He had every right to be both nervous and bewildered. WWE brass put behind Sheamus the biggest push in recent memory. At this point I’m honestly at a loss to recall another superstar who’s ever had as meteoric a rise. Brock Lesnor spent a few months feuding with the Hardys and Rob Van Dam, before getting his shot at the Rock’s world title. Even the high-octane ascent of the Ultimate Warrior saw a face turn and two IC title reigns from the man, before he got his shot at the big belt. (Granted both of those men won world championships on their inaugural tries, and that outcome is extremely unlikely in Sheamus’s case). Such a sudden and dramatic push is bound to raise questions… or at least one: does he deserve it? At this point, no. He doesn’t.

Sheamus has a unique look and a considerable talent for the impactive style he practices in the ring. Beyond those great qualities, however, what the powers that be at WWE see in the Celtic Warrior is not yet evident to most fans. Sheamus could one day be as great as he’s being booked to appear, but he needs further development to get there. He needs a meaningful feud with a solid performer, a well-paced angle to afford the rookie some sense of character and purpose. At the very least he needs to prove that he can provoke an audience response without resorting to cheap heat (retiring a cruiser weight, blind-siding a fifty-something hall of famer, etc.). In short Sheamus needs time. He’s got much potential, but without time to cultivate it, that’s all it will ever be.

I know the age of managers in WWE is (lamentably) over, but a flamboyant, articulate heel manager would go a long way in making Sheamus more credible and more entertaining. There was a time when the managerial guidance of old masters like Jimmy Hart, Jim Cornette, and the great Bobby Heenan was requisite to pushing a monster heel, especially when that heel was booked as an out-of-nowhere, sudden force to be reckoned with. Sheamus hasn’t displayed abysmal mic skills, but his promos have been far from memorable. Why not let a manager sell his story, while he sells his in-ring abilities?

Anyway, Sheamus V.S. Cena is at least something new. And I think the consensus among fans is that it’s extremely preferable to another Cena/Orton program (of course, the champ defending against a returning Frenchy Martin would be preferable to another Cena/Orton program… actually I’d pay big money to see that…). The rookie will obviously not win the championship, and he’ll definitely come out of the match at TLC with monstrous momentum. Hopefully the company will have a solid, character-enhancing angle ready for him when he does.

(NOTE: Personally I foresaw Ted Dibiase winning the battle royal. Creative could have built an interesting story line around Dibiase’s competing for the title that his mentor Orton still covets… tension mounting among Legacy’s ranks and all that. They’ve been teasing at such an implosion for months, but apparently they’re in no hurry to perpetrate it. Maybe that’s for the best.

Kingston would have been a natural choice as well. He’s certainly poised to start main eventing getting phenomenal fan support. Moreover, Kingston’s athleticism would have lent itself well to the TLC format, which characterizes all the main event matches at the next pay-per-view. Still, it was a good call not to set up Kingston V.S. Cena. The former’s feud with Orton should be given full attention. He’ll likely come out of that program ready for world title contendership, though.)

- There is a feeling in WWE that something ’special’ needs to be done with The Undertaker for WrestleMania 26 this year, and more importantly something fresh that the fans haven’t seen before. This is why the potential match with John Cena is being touted at the moment.

- There is also talk of a Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels match at WrestleMania 26. As often as the pair have wrestled each other, they have never had a match on a WrestleMania stage and it is something that has been talked about over the last 2 months.

- At one point, there had been a plan for a CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio match at WrestleMania 26, but this is unlikely to happen now considering Mysterio’s injury problems.

There has been talk of running the match at WWE’s annual January pay-per-view spectacular with Batista heading into WrestleMania with the belt.

The feud has already commenced as Batista defeated Kane at last night’s SmackDown taping in Bridgeport, Connecticut to become the No. 1 contender to Undertaker’s World Heavyweight Championship. A I loved Stone Cold, he was my favourite. I just thought he was so cute.

Q What was your initial reaction when the modelling agency that you were working for told you that they had been contacted by WWE?
A It was a little shocking like “Oh my gosh”. I never thought in a million years that they would have known who I was or that they would have wanted me to work for them. So when I got the call, I dropped everything. I was going to college, it was my first year and I dropped everything. I left my family and moved to Kentucky and was like “this is the dream of a life-time”.

Q You were the youngest diva ever in WWE. Did that make it harder or easier to fit in?
A It was actually really hard because I had just finished high-school. It was hard but, a lot of the guys took me under their wing and showed me the ropes and how to deal with travelling and that kind of thing. They took really good care of me.

Q Do you miss the days of Extreme Expose?
A No I can’t say I do! I loved the girls but my dancing skills where not up to par. I tried to keep up with them but I have to say I wasn’t the best dancer.

Q Who are your role models in wrestling and who do you look up to?
A I have to say Trish Stratus, the big one. She’s the ultimate diva. That’s what I aim to be like I guess! I am always watching Lita’s stuff.

Yeah so I am stuck at work for another forty-five minutes or so I can’t watch my usual gangbang porn. Plus, I have read all my comics for the week. So, I browsed the net and came across this useless bit of knowledge. According to various sources but using Prowrestling.net as a link, Lauren Mayhew has been released from WWE. She says she left but we all know that no one leaves WWE. They fire your ass for sucking. Well, I guess not always I suppose. After all, Chavo Guerrero and Hornswaggle still have jobs.

Anyway, Lauren was supposed to replace Lillian Garcia once she departed but the girl never worked. She was stale on the mic and when that is your only job its never good. This makes her supposed reason for leaving funny. See, she says she is leaving to pursue acting and music. Whatever toots, if the brief glimpse we got of you over the past few months is any indication we’ll be seeing you sing while grinding your finely trimmed poon on Cinemax.

Ok, maybe that’s not so bad. -Jeremy

Hello and welcome to the ECW Review where I will be reviewing WWE’s weekly ECW broadcast on Sy

Hello and welcome to the ECW Review where I will be reviewing WWE’s weekly ECW broadcast on SyFy. ECW is the least blogged about brand on the internet so I will be here every week to provide you with ECW coverage. I have chosen ECW to review for that reason and plus it’s only an hour so it is not that big of an undertaking. I may do an occasional RAW or Smackdown review but it is not likely, if you want to read a great blog about those two shows visit johnreport.wordpress.com he does a great job with his RAW Deal and Talking Smack columns. I will go through ECW and just give my thoughts, if you want play by play you’ll have to find it elsewhere. Here we go with the ECW Review for 11/24.

Zack Ryder vs Shelton Benjamin

It is announced at the on set of this match that if Shelton wins he will be named the #1 contender for the ECW Championship. Ryder, with the help of Rosa Mendes, beat Shelton this past Thursday on Superstars. The 1st half of this match was dominated by Shelton, when we come back from commercial Ryder dominates. I was never entertained by this match, it seemed like they were going through the motions to get to the eventual result. Shelton eventually hits paydirt for the victory and becomes the new #1 contender for the ECW Championship. As, for Ryder he has really stalled since losing his ECW Championship match to Christian a couple of months ago, which is a shame because he was really going well with his new gimmick, hopefully he gets another shot and just doesn’t become another career mid-carder. Post match Christian comes down to the ring to confront his newest challenger. We find out that their match is for the upcoming TLC PPV, which is shocking considering there hasn’t been an ECW match on a PPV since Breaking Point in September. Christian challenges Shelton to a ladder match and says he wants to steal the show, and Shelton accepts. WOW! Is it right to even get excited about an ECW Championship Match? If this match is given the 15-20 minutes it deserves and is allowed to go balls out, it will steal the show and possibly be a match of the year candidate and hopefully WWE will allow that to happen. An ECW Title match that can actually be great, who would have thunk it?

Winner and #1 Contender for the ECW Championship- Shelton Benjamin. *3/4

Backstage Regal is complaining to his crew about not being ECW Champion, sorry Bill, you had your chance. He tells Ezekiel and Vladimir that they have to be ready for his match vs Yoshi Tatsu tonight, interference anyone?

Vance Archer vs Alex Reynolds

Archer destroys Generic Jobber #73. Who cares. Give this man a match vs a real wrestler now, Goldust perhaps and a better finisher.

Winner- Vance Archer. DUD

Next on ECW we have the Abraham Washington Show. I usually fast forward through this segment but now that I am blogging on ECW, it would be irresponsible of me to do so. I got lucky last week and there was no Washington segment, but I was not so lucky this week. Washington calls himself the most entertaining man in sports entertainment and then references New Moon at which point I now have to declare this the worst segment in WWE History, yes all because he said New Moon on WWE TV. He says the audience looks like dogs and brings out his guest Matt Hardy. Abraham says he was excited when he found out he was getting a Hardy, then he found out it was Matt and is now disappointed, Matt says, he never heard that before, sarcastically. They plug Matt’s appearance on Scare Tactics next week. Ok, so Matt says he’s not afraid of anything and Abraham says he afraid that they are out of time. Thank You God! This was just dreadful. There was nothing funny or even remotely important on this segment. Dear Vince, Please get rid of this garbage known as the Abraham Washington Show. Sincerely, Christian.

Yoshi Tatsu vs William Regal

It is main event time here on ECW. This match was over fairly quickly. Regal dominated for the 1st 2 minutes and then Yoshi is pushed off the ropes by Kozlov and ends up catching regal in the head with a kick for the win, that kind of sucks, I was hoping for a solid match to end the show from these 2. Post Match Regal yells at Kozlov and Jackson and blames them for the loss. Regal is wise to the fact that someone pushed Yoshi into Regal, he blames Kozlov, who blames Jackson. Jackson then hits a version of the Rock Bottom on Kozlov. Jackson gets in Regal’s face and hits the same move on Regal and leaves the ring. So it looks like Ezekiel Jackson has left the side of William Regal. This stable never made it to it’s full potential. Regal never won the ECW Title and Jackson and Kozlov never got over as bad asses like they could’ve.

Winner- Yoshi Tatsu. DUD

This week’s edition of ECW gets a 1/10. The only reason I even gave it a 1 is because Christian vs Shelton Benjamin in a Ladder Match was booked tonight. There was nothing on this show that had to be seen or in some cases even make its way to our TV screens again. This was a terrible effort from a show where you can usually find some good wrestling on it. Hopefully we can get Christian in a match next week to promote the PPV to help erase this dreadful offering.

This will be a random thoughts type of thing. I’ll comment on whether or not I know anybody that works in WWE, some news items and then at the end I’ve got a couple of questions I’ll reply to.

- I haven’t seen ECW yet (it airs Fridays in Canada although sometimes I watch it on youtube before), but I’m pleased with what I read. I think it’s fantastic that they’ve finally pulled the trigger on giving Shelton Benjamin a title shot at Christian. The best part is that it’s a ladder match at the TLC PPV. I like that a lot. I think when you have a face vs. face match it’s easier to have a gimmick match like a ladder one than it is to have a straight up match. The fans can pop for the spots rather than a particular guy. For what it’s worth, I’ll pick Shelton Benjamin to win that one. I’ll save other picks for other matches at a later date.

- It looks like they’re pulling the trigger on Ezekiel Jackson turning face. That’s good. I can see him getting moved to Smackdown if he fairs well due to SD being short on the babyface side a little bit. A big guy like him s going to get the opportunity to prove himself to Vince. And no, I don’t care if he can make his boobs dance. I really don’t.

- The matches for the TLC PPV look like this: Cena vs. Sheamus in a Tables match for the WWE title, Batista vs. Undertaker in a Chairs match for the World Title (no idea what a Chairs match entails although I assume chairs are the only weapons they can use), DX vs. Jerishow in a TLC match for the tag titles and Christian vs. Benjamin for the ECW title in a ladder match. I assume that none of the other matches will be using a TLC type theme to them, which is fine by me. Four is enough. I’m not crazy about table matches, but I guess that’s a way to make Sheamus more of a threat than he would be in a regular singles match due to the fact that Cena rarely loses.

- People always ask me if I know, talk to, email or chat with anybody in WWE. The answer is yes. I’m not giving out any names. There are three current on air performers that I email with on a semi regular basis. One of them gave me high praise for my roster evaluation columns, which is how I got in touch with them. I’m not saying who it was, but it was somebody that wasn’t in the top five overall. One of them has been writing me on and off for like four years when they were still training to be a wrestler. The third one is somebody that I chat with on AOLIM. And yes, they are all legit. I’ve checked.

There are also two people that I’m in contact with that work for WWE, but you wouldn’t know them by name. I’ve met one of them in person as recently as a few weeks ago, which was pretty awesome. I’m not giving out names, though. They ask for privacy and I respect them enough to give them that. It’s pretty cool to know that your stuff is being read by people that are affiliated with WWE. I’m not going to change my writing style, though, that’s for sure. I might suck up to these people more! I’m sure that will lead to some people guessing. Have fun.

- The new ring announcer on ECW, Lauren Mayhew, is already gone. They had a short term deal for her and chose not to extend it. They didn’t like her enough and I don’t think she liked it enough. As I said to my friends on facebook, if they fired women who weren’t skilled as wrestlers they’d only have about six or seven women on the roster right now rather than the 20 or so that they have. I guess there’s a spot open again for chicks that look good in a tight dress. Good luck to them all.

- I like the WWE Divas turkey shoot at: http://www.wwe.com/superstars/divas/galleries/turkeyshoot2009/ – Of course Mickie’s photos are my favorite, but the more I see of Eve the more I like. She’s absolutely gorgeous.

Now for some mailbag questions. The questions will be in italics. My answers will be in regular font:

You wrote a few weeks ago that Hogan was infamous for not selling a three count by kicking out at the third slap. It got me thinking. Over the years we’ve seen a lot of those and in many ways it’s a very subtle and effective piece of ring psychology. It does create a little tension for a potential rematch. After all how decisive is this victory? What is the reason and origin of this craft in the first place? Who in your experience is the absolute master of this questionable art? What’s the best one in recent memory? My personal favorite is the kick out Sgt Slaughter did on believe it or not Hogan at WM VII.

Keep up the good work and regards to Ms. James-Canton.

Sicco

I get a lot of different types of questions. This one is pretty bizarre. I don’t remember too many instances of guys kicking out after the three aside from Hogan doing it to Ultimate Warrior and also against Sting at Starrcade 1997 although that whole thing was screwed up from the start with the supposed fast count that wasn’t even fast. Good job remembering the Slaughter thing. I wonder if that was why he never got nearly the same push ever again after that. I doubt Hogan the egomaniac was pleased.

I think that if you’re told to lay down for the three you should lay down. I don’t like the kick out right after three especially if it comes after a finisher. That hurts the guy doing the pin. I guess I’m old school like that.

You may get this question a lot, but what do you think will happen with the Undertaker’s Mania streak? I’m kind of torn on the issue because I think it would be a great way to honor him if they allow him to stay undefeated, but I could see them wanting him to create a new “monster” to take his place by losing the streak to that person, whoever that might be.

I guess my question is, what do you think will happen long term with the streak? And if someone ends it, who and how many years from now? I don’t think it should be Preparation H, the Heart Attack kid or SuperCena that ends it, though those are probably the obvious choices. I think it would really make a young guy’s career and turn him into the next big thing if he was the one who ended the streak.

I don’t know if WWE has a young monster-type star in the wings as of yet, but if they were able to get Matt Morgan from TNA I think he could turn into one of those unstoppable forces if they let it happen and if they were able to get him. To me, a top guy doesn’t need to end the streak because they are already established. I was just curious as to what you thought.

Matt T.

I don’t think the streak should ever end. I know that probably sounds lame because in the wrestling business you’re supposed to have veterans lose to make the next guy. It’s a streak, though. Let it live. It’s weird that something like a win streak in a business that has pre-determined outcomes is so important, but to me it is.

Now, if somebody were to beat him I would definitely make it a rising star type rather than an established person. I don’t want to list names of current people because all signs are pointing to Undertaker/Cena this year. The best scenario would be the younger guy beats him clean, Undertaker shakes his hand, raises his arm and they really establish somebody as a legitimate top guy by doing that. Will it happen? I doubt it.

I have no idea what WWE thinks about it. If it’s me, though, I say don’t end the streak ever. Fans like it. It’s not like a champion having to put over somebody else. It’s just a streak. Let it live.

—–

That’s all for the random thoughts for today. It was going to be longer, but work kicked my ass and I’m tired. I’ll try to add new content to the blog every day. I have ideas. I welcome yours. Hit the comment button or email me at oratoryjohn@gmail.com with any ideas you may have.

To my American readers out there, have a Happy Thanksgiving. Normally I skip work or school to watch the NFL games, but this year I won’t be able to. Oh well. Not a big deal.

So tomorrow is Turkey Day! I’ve decided to give ya’ll (I love using that and I don’t know why) a special find for the week. It was going to be Thanksgiving themed (still is) but I couldn’t find a true youtube video of the debut, so instead you get this pic:

That’s right it’s the Gobbledy Gooker! The Gooker debuted back in 1990 when the WWE (yes I watch wrestling) was still the WWF, and way too themed for children. So back then we had to suffer through many a cartoonish thing. In November the wwe has its Survivor Series PPV and in 1990 the weeks leading up to it were filled with teases of a giant egg. What could be in it? Finally the big day happened and the Gooker popped out to a rousing lethargic reception. Critics and fans hated it and sadly (ha!) the Gooker was short lived. Here is one of your finds a short clip of the ever crazy Bushwackers with the Gobbledy Gooker.

Side note: The Bushwackers were a great example of the WWF’s cartoonish nature then. They were goofy, barley understandable people who licked each other’s head. They started out as the Sheepherders elsewhere and were one of the bloodiest and most violent teams ever. I know you were all very interested to know that…..I’ve lost all 5 of my readers haven’t I?

Anyhizzle here is the scary clip:

Now enjoy the rest of your day orTurkatron will come get you!

and you don’t want to mess with him. A short clip of his hilarity here (ignore the message at the end)
