There is quite a bit to choose from. They serve breakfast until 2pm and there are light bites and afternoon tea. You can even have a champagne afternoon tea… The Ritz eat your heart out. Or you can just have a great cuppa from a long list of teas and a piece of cake from the counter. Lots to choose from each one looking as delicious as the next.

We decided to start with the Welsh rarebit followed by a lemon drizzle cake and a warm fudge cake served with ice cream. Tea wise we opted for a pot of assam and a pot of good old English breakfast.

The Welsh rarebit was really rather good. Two huge slices of brown bread with a good helping of cheese and a great mustard and Worcestershire sauce kick. Accompanied by a small salad it was very tasty.
The lemon drizzle cake was AMAZING. A beautifully light sponge that was light on the lemon. Sometimes I find the lemon overpowering but this was just right. Really really good. The chocolate fudge cake was good. Perhaps a bit too rich. The sponge was light and creamy. The fudge sauce deliciously slick and thick.

The staff are a friendly bunch, pleasant and relaxed making the tea rooms feel calm. You don’t feel rushed but looked after.

The bill came in at £20. Not bad really considering the great sized portions and the obvious home cooking.

The Richmond Tea Rooms is a little haven against all that is bad in the world. OK, here and there it may be a little rough around the edges but you know what, I don’t care. It’s well worth a visit so check it out if you’re in Manchester any time soon.
