La compañía de hardware de Estados Unidos (Gateway) anunció en el día de ayer la incorporación de un nuevo ordenador portátil a su catalogo denominado Gateway EC1400-31K, que se destaca por llevar una pantalla de 11.6 pulgadas.

Este equipo se estará comercializando en Japón a finales del presente mes de septiembre a un precio que alcanza los 450 euros.

Gateway EC1400-31K dispone de un procesador Intel Celeron SU2300 a 1.2 GHz, memoria RAM de 2 GB, resolución WXGA, conectividad WiFi, webcam para realizar videoconferencias, diversidad de puertos USB y un disco duro con una capacidad de almacenamiento de hasta 250 GB para que el usuario guarde tanto información personal como publica.

El diseño del equipo es muy atractivo, además que el estilo y la clase se ven a leguas.

No cabe la menor duda que este equipo de 1.4 kg de peso se convierte en una de las principales atracciones del catalogo de Gateway.

Screen Resolutions are always listed while describing a computer. It is often the determining factor in most purchases (by first timers). First a bit about monitors. Monitors sizes are measured diagonally. First all of the size of the monitor should be considered based on your requirement and usage. If you are a gamer and watch movies a lot, a larger screen (usually 19″) with better resolution would be a good idea. If you are going to be working on it, then a standard 15 or 17 inch would do. On laptops, it depends on your purpose again. If you intend to use your laptop while traveling or on the go, then the suggested screen size would be a 13 or 14 inch screen. If you are not that big on portability then monitors are available of up-to 17 inches.

The general theme is the more the resolution, the better it is. And that is true to a large extent. The importance of screen resolution magnifies if you are a gamer or want to watch widescreen movies. A computer monitor is made of pixels (short for “picture element”). Monitor resolution is measured in pixels, width by height. 640 x 480 resolution means that the screen is 640 pixels wide by 480 tall, an aspect ratio of 4:3. (Aspect Ratio = Width/Height) With the exception of one resolution combination (1280 x 1024 uses a ratio of 5:4), all aspect ratios are the same (i.e 4:3). Typically resolutions for computer monitors start from 1280*800. But you will still find resolutions of 1024*768 on some old computers.

WXGA+, WXGA or WSXGA – Widescreen Extended Graphics Array PLUS – (Mostly seen in desktop LCD monitors) – 1440×900 (1296k) – Aspect Ratio – 6:10

WSXGA+ – Widescreen Super Extended Graphics Array Plus (Most 22 inch LCD monitors) – 1680×1050 (1764k) – Aspect Ratio – 16:10

WUXGA – Widescreen Ultra Extended Graphics Array (Most 24 inch monitors) – 1920×1200 (2304k) – Aspect Ratio – 16:10

For basic computing and word processing, a resolution of 1024*768 would make you happy. However, 1280*800 is almost the standard on most computer monitors on both desktops as well as laptops. If you plan to enjoy games or movies, then a 19 inch (desktop) and 17 inch (laptop) with a screen resolution of more than 1400*900 would do good. On games, gamers are known to want the best resolution and the biggest screen.

In this regard, it is pertinent to note that you would have to sacrifice on screen dazzles if you are going for a netbook. A netbook (typically with screens ranging from 8-12 inches) is not meant to be an entertainment device or provide visual delight. Its highlight is portability. However, if you are using it for emails or business applications, you should be fine with it. Just do not expect to run your games (you tried it didn’t you) or enjoy watching movies on your netbooks. Although, technically there is nothing stopping you.

High Definition – On the street, a screen resolution of 1920*1080 is said to be the standard HD resolution. You will recognize a FULL HD screen by a sign that says 1080p.  1080p is the shorthand name for a category of HDTV video modes.  ”1080″ means  1,080 lines of vertical resolution (1080 horizontal scan lines), while the letter p stands for progressive scan (meaning the image is not interlaced). 1080p can be referred to as full HD or full high definition. The term usually assumes a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9, implying a horizontal resolution of 1920 pixels. This creates a frame resolution of 1920×1080, or 2,073,600 pixels in total. The frame rate in hertz can be either implied by the context or specified after the letter p (or i), such as 1080p30, meaning 30 Hz. (Wikipedia).

Tip – For the best possible viewing (while watching movies, that is), its said that you should sit at-least three times the diagonal measurement of the screen.
