Che il fumo passivo faccia male è un fatto acclarato. Che metta ko anche i computer francamente spiazza un po’. Proprio così: stando a quanto riferisce The consumerist, un sito statunitense di tutela dei consumatori, ci sono due casi in cui la richiesta di assistenza in garanzia da parte di proprietari di computer è stata negata con una motivazione quantomeno bizzarra: “Contaminazione da fumo”.

Sembra uno scherzo ma è tutto vero e l’azienda in questione non è catena di assemblatori locali, ma quella più cool e innovativa del panorama tecnologico: la Apple. E i portatili in questione sono i popolari Macbook e iMac. Insomma, il fumo nuoce alla salute del computer e si perde la garanzia se chi lo usa ha il vizio delle sigarette.

Nonostante nel contratto di garanzia non si faccia alcun riferimento esplicito alle sigarette come comportamento pericoloso per la salute del computer, la casa di Cupertino, alla richiesta di chiarimenti, ha replicato così: la nicotina fa parte della lista delle sostante dannose stilata dall’Occupational Safety and Health Administration. La casa di Steve Jobs ha poi sottolineato che non chiederà ai suoi dipendenti di riparare qualcosa mettendo a rischio la loro salute. Questo perché, secondo gli esperti, il computer di un fumatore all’interno si può paragonare a un posacenere sporco. A parte la puzza e la polvere, l’accumulo di catrame è in grado mandare in tilt il pc.

I due casi di cui parla The consumerist si sono verificati qualche anno fa in due diversi Stati americani. Il primo risale all’aprile 2007, quando il pc venne portato in un Apple Store a West Des Moines, nell’Iowa: un anno in assistenza, poi la risposta che era stato usato in una casa di fumatori e questo faceva decadere la garanzia. Non solo. L’Apple si è rifiutata di riparare anche a pagamento il Mac, per “i rischi alla salute dovuti al fumo passivo”.

Sulla stessa falsariga il secondo caso. I tecnici hanno assicurato prima un intervento nel giro di 48-72 per l’iMac che dava problemi, ma dopo qualche giorno hanno informato il cliente che il computer non poteva funzionare “perché contaminato”. Contaminato dal fumo di sigarette, s’intende, che viene considerato un “pericolo biologico”.

I protagonisti dei due casi hanno scritto direttamente a Steve Jobs, il fondatore della Apple, ottenendo di nuovo un no come risposta.

Not being a particular fan of the popular British TV singing talent show “The X-Factor”, I don’t often watch it, the seasons come and go, and little is known to me about it. Not this season, for during this season, two enigmatic seventeen year old lads stole the headlines in their first audition. Their names? John and Edward Grimes. Singing talent, average at best, however what struck me about them was their confidence, their demeanor and their, to me at least, likeability. Much of Britain launched hatred towards them, booing them when they were on stage and such, while all the while my support for them grew. It really made me think; how two young twins from Dublin could get so much hatred for no reason other than the fact that the judges and the PUBLIC themselves continued to keep them in the competition. It beggared belief to me, and I supported them because they were entertaining, and had so much abuse at them, when all they were doing was making use of their ability and running with it, without making a fuss or standing still like all the other contestants and still being off-key. No, they make an entertaining show of it. Or at least, they did, but tonight, they were voted off, to my despair. They acted like true popstars and never took themselves seriously. I liked that about them, they got it done despite all the pressure, all the crowd booing, hate mail etc. It made me lose even more confidence in the people around me; these are two teenage lads who are going out there, having a good time and a fair number of people are obviously enjoying it too, yet many people decide to fling abuse which has obviously effected the lads.

To quote John, “I haven’t been sleeping for the last two or three nights.

“We were in the street walking to our dance class when a whole family came past in a black car and shouted out, ‘We hate you. You’re wankers.”

I’ll miss John and Edward, and with their departure, that marks the end of my brief love affair with the X Factor, as I don’t have a reason to watch anymore. It was always “I wonder what John and Edward will do this time”, obviously I can’t do that now. I’m sure we’ll see the lads again. As long as the public don’t kill them.

Obi und ich wollen etwas besonderes in Angriff nehmen: Wir entwickeln unsere erste Anwendung speziell für den Mac.

XCode ist wahrlich keine einfache Programmiersprache, aber wir werden uns einarbeiten (müssen) und bald entsteht ein neues Projekt: Der YouTube-Manager.

Ich hatte schon vor langer Zeit eine Idee. Wie wäre es, wenn man mit einer Anwendung YouTube organisieren und verwalten kann und seine wichtigsten Videos immer mit dabei hat, auch wenn man mal nicht online ist? Dies und viel mehr soll das Programm können. Es soll Videos in einer ganz neuen Art präsentieren, anzeigen und verwalten können. Selbstverständlich mit Login und allem was dazugehört.

Das Programm wird nicht gerade eine leichte Anwendung die man so eben in 2 Stunden programmiert. Unser erstes Ziel wird es sein, alle Funktionen des regulären YouTubes zu implementieren. Doch wir gehen einen Schritt weiter. Wir werden die Geschwindigkeit erhöhen und die kleinen Mankos ausarbeiten, die die Onlineversion von YouTube besitzt. Außerdem werden wir umfangreiche Organisations- und Archivierungsfunktionen implementieren, die so zuvor noch nicht bekannt waren. Features, die wir planen, sind (unter anderem):

• Revolutionäre, geschwindigkeitsbringende Benutzeroberfläche mit Drag&Drop Features und exzellentem Design
• Archivierungsfunktion, um alle seine Favoriten, Abbonements, einzelne Videos oder sogar alle angeschauten Videos immer dabei zu haben
• Bessere Tagging- und Suchfunktion
• Mehrere Favoritenlisten und verbesserte Playlistfunktionen
• Umfangreiche Verwaltung von Abonnements
• Neuartige Kommentarfunktion mit History und vielem mehr
• Verbesserte Administration des eigenen Kanals
• und vieles mehr…

Das alles hört sich ziemlich theoretisch an, und das ist es auch. Es wird allerdings das nächste Projekt werden. Wir werden zusammen daran arbeiten. Das Programm wird mit XCode programmiert und ist nur auf OSX lauffähig. Eine Windows- und Linuxversion wird es nicht geben! Ich habe mich dazu entschieden, regelmäßig den genauen Projektverlauf auf meinem Blog zu veröffentlichen. Sobald das Programm lauffähig ist, wird es höchstwahrscheinlich Weekly Builds geben.

Und jetzt das Wichtige: Das Programm wird komplett Freeware und OpenSource (Lizenz ist noch nicht entschieden)!

Und zum Schluss noch eine wichtige Aufforderung an meine Leser. Wie ihr sicherlich gemerkt habt, sprach ich vom “Programm”, denn das Projekt hat bislang noch keinen Namen. Es wäre nett, wenn ihr ein paar Namensvorschläge als Kommentar hinterlasst. Vielen Dank und schönen Sonntag noch!
