Calling it “the noisiest phone they’ve ever reviewed”, it’s the Nokia X6 – comes with music phone. Taking over as the new music flagship (if there ever was one in Nokia’s line up) as well as being the top Xseries and first Nokia phone to sport a capacitive touch screen.

Big hits for the “blackberry like” Nokia Messaging where your emails instantly pop up and the fantastic Twitter (and facebook, and Google Reader!) client, Gravity.

[note, I don't think the X6 has a memory card slot as claimed in the video]

Nokia telah secara resmi mengukuhkan pengkapalan ‘Nokia X6 Comes with Music’ handset, yaitu layar sentuh kapasitif yang disebut juga sebagai Nokia X6 – ‘all-you-can-eat ‘ ponsel musik – kini telah dimulai pengkapalan dipasar tertentu ‘(khususnya Eropa, Eurasia, Timur Tengah dan Afrika).

Nokia X6, menggunakan operating system SymbianOS S60 Edisi 5, dengan sebuah layar sentuh 3.2 ” kapasitif rasio aspek layar 16:9 menawarkan 640 x 360 resolusi, 32GB kapasitas penyimpanan terpadu, A-GPS dengan Maps Ovi 3.0, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, 802.11 b / g WiFi, TV-out dan 5 megapiksel 4x digital zoom kamera autofocus dengan Carl Zeiss optik dan Dual LED flash.

SonyEricsson joulumyynti on saamassa pienen kolauksen kun sen Symbian-pohjainen lippulaivamalli Satio on vedetty pois myynnistä UK:ssa Carphone Warehousen ja Phones4U:n myymälöistä. Puhelinta vaivaa softavika joka SE:n mukaan tulee korjatuksi 2-3 viikossa. Tämän jälkeen puhelin pitäisi vapautua koirankopista ja myynti jatkua. Tuo 2-3 viikon myyntitauko saattaa näkyä SE:n joulukvartaalin luvuissa. Tosin ilmeisesti kaikki paikalliset operaattorit myyvät edelleen kyseistä luuria joten vika ei voi olla suuri. Google Newsin mukaan jonkinlainen softavika vaivaa myös Nokia N97 mallia joka on poistunut Vodaphonen mallistosta. Tosin uudempi Nokia N97 Mini on siellä jo myynnissä joten liekö tuolla Nokialle mitään merkitystä.

Nokian joulumallisto sai lisää voimaa kun Noksun ensimmäinen kapasitiivisen näytön omaavan luurin X6:n myynti alkaa UK:ssa ja Suomessa tällä viikolla. Puhelin on sidottu Comes With Music-palveluun ja ilman ko. palvelua tätä puhelinta ei ymmärtääkseni saa. Musiikin ystäville on Nokian luureja käyttävillä nyt muitakin vaihtoehtoja sillä Spotifyn Symbian clientti on vihdoin saatavilla. Tosin pitää olla Spotifyn premium-jäsen käyttääkseen palvelua.Symbian-laitteissahan tuo softa toimiikin paremmin kuin iPhonessa joka ei tue edelleenkään moniajoa.

Nokian kurssi ei jaksa piristyä vaan pyörii siinä yhdeksän euron nurkilla. Ensi viikolla järjestettävä CMD (capital markets day) saa toivottavasti kurssiin puhtia. Nokia on vähentämässä väkeä tuotekehityksestään. Tänään ilmoittivat vähennyksistä Japanissa.

Tällä viikolla pitäisi loppua odotus N900 tilaukseni kanssa. Maanantaina Nokia ilmoitti lähettäneensä puhelimen ja kun valitsin sen halvemman ja hitaamman (3-5 päivän) toimituksen niin saanen omani viikonlopuksi kouraan ja pääsen testaamaan, säätämään ja asentamaan softaa

Mobile App Development - Snake Guide for South Africa

I took my first foray into mobile app development recently. Using Origo IDE I was pleasantly surprised at how easy this particular framework makes development for the Symbian (Nokia) environment.

Including the initial learning curve, it took me all of 5 days to complete the app in question, and I’m quite pleased with the result, even if it is still a bit rough around the edges. Unfortunately, since Origo IDE is still a work in progress, some functionality is simply not available yet (such as calling the phone’s dialler, sending sms’s, use of the camera – though these API’s are apparently being added as we speak). So I’ll be adding to the app as and when the framework gets updated.

The app itself is a guide / e-book on snakes most commonly found throughout South Africa. It’s available as a free download, so please feel free to play around with it and give me some feedback – good or bad, it’s all a learning experience.

The app has been tested and works on all Nokia Symbian S60 5th edition handsets . (Including Nokia N97, N97 mini, 5800, 5530 and X6 handsets.)

The UberDouche Coupe M now has had its power boosted by 42 horses in the twin-turbo xDrive50i model. It even comes with a “special” body kit and rolls on twenties.

Oh yeah. You get extra badges that say “M” everywhere too.

So, there you have it. It’s faster. It’s heavier. It’s more expensive.

The only thing it isn’t?

Concept phones: Nokia X8?

The Nokia X8 – or at least how the X6 should have looked were it to dispense of the space wastages top and bottom of the screen.

Will all future touch screen devices inevitably just be slabs of rectangular displays? [e.g. HTC Touch HD2] I’m all for it – especially the seamless flat glass fronted displays.

This Nokia X8 is actually a Samsung concept phone[via Mobile-Review forum] mixed with the N97 mini’s call/end keys and Nokia logo, minus the bottom triangular chin. It’s a crude edit done it paint (I got a little distracted from reading up for a test about Jeremy Bentham and Immanuel Kant :S). It pretty much closely resembles the original X6 were you to lop off the top and bottom (though I do like that shiny red trim).

The Nokia X6 is a Comes With Music device and is being launched globally on the 16th November. As you’ve probably already heard, this launch is going to be pretty big considering it’s being partnered with an exlusive concert starring Rihanna, one of the hottest artists right now in all sense of the word with the most number 1 hits of this decade.

Rihanna will debut her new album, Rated R, streaming the concert live over Nokia phones and for a lucky exclusive audience at the actual launch event in London.

No niin, tänään se odotettu ilmoitus vihdoin tuli: Nokia N900 toimitukset ovat käynnistyneet. Ja kun kurkkasin mitä Nokian oman weppikaupan ennakkotilaussivuilla lukee niin parin viikon päästä alkaa asiakastoimitukset Suomessa ennakkotilaajille: “Nokia Online Kauppa toimittaa N900 ennakkotilaukset viikolla 48“. Minä todennäköisesti saan omani ensimmäisten joukossa sillä tilasin sen samana päivänä jolloin ennakkotilaussivu aukeni. Kaksi viikkoa vielä … jouluun

Nokialla alkaa olla 4Q tuotevalikoima jo myynnissä. N97 mini on jo toimituksissa, Nokian eka kapasitiivinen multi-touch (ymmärtääkseni) luuri X6 tulee myyntiin ensi viikolla.

Zwar ist Nokia noch immer der größte Handyhersteller der Welt, doch dieser Erfolg beruht im Moment vor allem auf den Absätzen in den aufstrebenden Entwicklungsländern wie z.B. Indien.

Der Highend-Markt, repräsentiert durch die führenden Industriestaaten, wurde seitens Nokia in den letzten Monaten etwas vernachlässigt. Vor allem der Boom der Touchscreengeräte hat Nokia wertvolle Marktanteile verlieren lassen. Immerhin existieren neben dem 5800 XpressMusic und dem N97 wenigstens auf dem Papier einige interessante Geräte.

Nokia hat nun verkünden lassen, dass das X6 und das potente N900 endlich ganz kurz vor der Auslieferung stehen. Bleibt nur zu hoffen, das Nokia Wort hält und das kein Paperlaunch wird. Es wird nämlich Zeit, dass den Platzhirschen etwas Paroli geboten wird. Das kann uns Kunden nämlich auch nur nützlich sein…
