Need for Speed SHIFT Revs up with All-New Team Racing Mode and Legendary Cars

Starting next week, Facebook, Twitter, Last.fm and instant on HD video from Zune will be available on Xbox 360 consoles, transforming Xbox LIVE into the largest social network connected to the TV with exclusive features custom-designed for the living room. “We’re delivering some truly exciting social entertainment experiences to our members,” said Whitten. “Xbox LIVE’s differentiator has always been our community, and we’ve already seen a tremendous response to these features in our public preview.

It’s oh-so enticing: you find a copy of a brand new game like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on a pirate site and the temptation to download it is too strong.

Well, that temptation may have cost up to 1 million users of Microsoft’s Xbox Live the ability to use that service. According to a report in InformationWeek, Microsoft has banned as many as a million players from Xbox Live for altering their consoles in order to play pirated versions of games.

This week, Activision’s new Call of Duty was released, and InformationWeek speculated that because pirated versions of the game appeared on various sharing sites in advance of the release, the game’s developer may have exhorted Microsoft to enact the bans.

"Xbox 360 consoles are equipped with digital rights management technologies designed to detect pirated software," InformationWeek wrote, "but some players have successfully ‘modded,’ or modified, their machines to circumvent DRM protections."

Even if someone has been banned, their Xbox will still play offline games, InformationWeek said. But it’s not at all clear if the bans are permanent or if Microsoft will allow those who have been booted from Xbox Live to return at some point down the line.

In a statement Microsoft said its "commitment to combat piracy and support safer and more secure gameplay for the more than 20 million members of the Xbox Live community remains a top priority. All consumers should know that piracy is illegal and modifying their Xbox 360 console violates the Xbox Live terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox Live. We can assure you that if an Xbox Live member follows the Xbox Live terms of use, purchased a retail copy of Modern Warfare 2 and played the game on an unmodified Xbox 360, no action will be taken."

And on the Xbox support page, Xbox Live Director of Programming Larry Hryb, aka Major Nelson, has addressed some of the circumstances that could lead to a player’s being banned.

"Players who find their Gamertags banned from Xbox Live have wound up in that situation due to violations of the Xbox Live Terms of Use," Major Nelson wrote. "The Xbox Live team monitors players for not just cheating, but also for things like threats, racism, profanity, and just being an all around poor sport and ruining the game for others.

"When a Gamertag comes up as violating our policies for online behavior, the person who owns that Gamertag is punished by being banned from the service. Keep in mind, this isn’t just a ban on a particular game. This is a ban on the Xbox Live service as a whole, so you won’t be able to go online at all during your ban. Initially, you may be banned for a day, a week, or depending on severity, permanently! Kiss that $50 goodbye."

Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition Content Coming to North America and Europe

Following the announcement of Resident Evil 5: The Alternative Edition by Capcom Japan at the 2009 Tokyo Game Show, Capcom’s North American and European community sites decided to post polls and determine how fans in the pan-western regions would like the new Resident Evil 5 content delivered to them. The surveys asked the Capcom community to state their preference- either a hard disc with the new content included or as downloadable content. Based on the results of the polls, Capcom is pleased to announce that new downloadable content will be available for Resident Evil 5 owners this spring via XBOX Live and PlayStation Network.

Major Nelson, updating us on a periodic Xbox Live purge—banhammering cheaters, pirates and other folks of ill-repute, though not 12-year-olds—reminds us of Microsoft’s official policy that if you buy a used Xbox 360 that’s been banned, you’re screwed.

The crux of the matter is that the warranty on an Xbox 360 "is not transferable," so if you buy a used console "that has been previously banned, you will not be able to connect to Xbox LIVE." So if you buy a used Xbox 360, make sure it’s from a less-than-shady party—and if you buy from a used games shop, make ‘em connect it to Xbox Live so you know you’re getting something that works. XBL update equipped with the social networking tools is yet to go live completely which would be having twitter, facebook, last.fm, zune marketplace, movie parties, Music Store and much more in store, however for the Indian gamers it’s nothing exciting since only twitter and facebook features would be kind of value add, since zune marketplace, movie parties, last.fm availibility would be doubtful, above all one would need a USB keyboard attached to the Xbox 360 if you do not want to be frustrated typing 140 charcters with the on-screen keyboard, nevertheless check out the article here

1. Zur Xbox Live Freundesliste:

Die Meditationsübung war erfolgreich, ich habe ein paar Plätze auf meiner Xbox Live Freundesliste geschaffen. Sollten ein paar Blogleser unter den “gefeuerten” sein – bitte seid mir nicht böse, aber Leute, die seit 50 Tagen nicht mehr online waren oder ihren Status anscheinend dauerhaft auf “offline” gesetzt haben, so daß ich sie eh nicht mehr “sehe”, machen einfach keinen Sinn in der Freundesliste. Beschwert euch bei Microsoft, daß es nicht mehr Plätze gibt. Oder halt, nein lieber doch nicht, sonst macht mir Herr Schneider-Johne am Ende noch die Hölle heiß, und mir reichen für diesen Monat schon meine Krankenkassen. D.h., es können jetzt Anfragen gesendet werden. Aber bitte erstmal schriftlich mit Lichtbild in doppelter Ausführung und einem Durchschlag für meinen Aktenordner. Es muß schließlich alles seine Ordung haben hier….  Ist natürlich Quatsch   Versucht’s halt einfach, wenn ihr wollt. Ich bitte allerdings folgendes zu bedenken, ein paar Dinge, die ich schon lange mal loswerden wollte:

1. Ich kann nicht mit allen gleichzeitig zocken.
2. Ich kann nicht mit allen gleichzeitig chatten.
3. Ich zocke nicht so oft, wie es hier vielleicht manchmal den Anschein macht.
4. Wenn ich online bin und nicht (sofort) auf Chatanfragen, Partyeinladungen oder Nachrichten reagiere – nehmt es nicht persönlich, ich ignoriere euch nicht, weil ich keinen Bock habe, sondern einfach vielleicht schon mit jemandem Coop zocke, oder chatte, oder einfach mal nur meine Ruhe will, oder vielleicht auch nur schon mit dem Controller in der Hand eingeschlafen bin .
5. Ich bin schwerhörig und habe Probleme mit diversen Dialekten. Also bitte – laut und deutlich reden. Und Hochdeutsch. Sonst hab ich Verständnisprobleme, und das ist kein Witz. Ich weiß nicht, woran es liegt, aber egal mit welchem Headset – sobald ich über Xbox Live rede, bekomme ich Probleme. Ihr dürft mich auch gerne auslachen, aber wiegesagt – bitte laut und deutlich

2. Zur Kommentarfunktion hier im Blog:

Ich habe es jetzt ermöglicht, daß man auf jeden Kommentar direkt antworten kann, auf bis zu fünf Ebenen. Ihr könnt jetzt also munter drauflos verschachteln. Ich weiß, ich habe mich neulich an anderer Stelle beschwert, daß ich das total unübersichtlich finde, und das stimmt auch. Nur finde ich es eben auch witzig, wenn man direkt auf etwas antworten kann. Mal sehen, wie lange es dauert, bis ich hier komplett den Überblick verliere.

Desweiteren gibt es Leute, die mittlerweile etwas mehr wissen, über mich, als die “Allgemeinheit” –  oder das zumindest glauben – und um es mal mit den Worten einer werten Bloggerkollegin auszudrücken: Freut euch über euer Wissen – aber behaltet es für euch. Es gibt einfach Dinge, die werden hier nicht offen ausgesprochen. Auch wenn es im Prinzip vielleicht eh schon jeder weiß. Oder eben auch gerade nicht. Ein bißchen Geheimnis muß auch noch bleiben, und dementsprechende Kommentare werden entweder editiert oder gar nicht erst freigeschaltet. Das selbe gilt für Beleidigungen, Stänkereien, Stalking. Wem etwas nicht paßt – weglesen. Da oben rechts ist ein Kreuzchen, da kann man draufklicken und gut ist .

Ihr könnt euch alle Fotos die ich hier online stelle runterladen wenn ihr wollt und sie euch was weiß ich wohin speichern. No problem. Daß das getan wird weiß ich, wenn ich ein Problem damit hätte, würde ich sie nicht veröffentlichen. 4. Halloween:

Ich weiß ja, daß ein paar Leute Halloween total blöd finden, aber trotzdem gibt’s hier morgen früh ein kleines Halloween-Special. Ich hatte hier nämlich grade eine Begegnung der etwas anderen Art…. Stay tuned  .

Ich bin nicht nur drin im Twitter/Facebook Preview, nein, ich bin auch voll.  Fast zumindest.

Was ich damit sagen will?

Ich habe noch genau einen Platz in meiner Xbox Live – Freundesliste frei. Dann ist Schicht im Schacht. Zumindest erstmal. Wer noch will, sollte sich beeilen.

…ich bin dafür, daß das mal auf 200 Freunde ausgeweitet wird.

Btw: Ich werde in nächster Zukunft leider mit niemandem Borderlands Online-Coop zocken. Deswegen (danke HerrK für die Warnung!):

Nachdem es schon bei der PlayStation 3-Fassung des Spiels massive Probleme im Online-Modus gab, sorgt ein neuer Bug für Unmut und Frust, wobei auch hier der Online-Koop schuldig ist. Tritt man nämlich einem Match bei oder verlässt es, kann es vorkommen, dass man sämtliche Skills und Waffenfertigkeiten verliert. Unter Umständen muss man also komplett von vorne anfangen. Wenn man viel Zeit in seinen Charakter investiert hat, dürfte dies sehr ärgerlich sein. Der Bug soll alle drei Plattformen betreffen, während wie immer nicht klar ist, wie viele Spieler dieses Erlebnis schon hatten.

Auf die Beschwerden im offiziellen Forum antwortete Gearbox folgendermaßen: „Euer Bericht wurde aufgenommen und wir arbeiten daran. Unglücklicherweise gibt es bislang noch keinen Fix, aber wenn einer verfügbar ist, hoffen wir, so viele eurer Charakterdaten wie möglich wiederherstellen zu können.“

So, I got the e-mail tonight that I was getting the preview update for the xbox live Facebook / Twitter / LiveFM / Zune on the dashboard. Its pretty nifty. The Facebook is useful, but it doesn’t allow you to leave comments on the persons page, which .. would be nice. It does allow you to see all your xbox live friends with facebook, though. Well, if said person allows you to know they have it, anyway. The Twitter has a super cute layout, and is really easy to work. Though, I wish it gave you a character count while you’re updating your “tweet”.  The LastFM is every bit as awesome as LastFM online. You can listen to your channels while browsing your other channels, and you can favorite and block songs.. Make playlists..  will be so useful when I don’t want to get up and find my mp3 player  – instead I can just pop on LastFM and let it pick my music for me.  Zune is apparently the new replacement for our video/music marketplace. It’s pretty much the same – but darker in color.    I, overall, like the whole deal, and think it’s a pointless but fun update.  However…. I wish that they gave facebook & twitter their own tab on the dashboard. I wish they allowed you to stay logged in and just scroll to that tab, unlike now, where you have to load up the program to use it. But, oh well. It’s not that big of a problem. A quick button would be nice too! The facebook/twitter update isn’t out yet, so maybe they’ll add a few new little things for us before it’s full scale released. We’ll see.  I like it though.
