Well folks, I’m back and since you last heard from me I’ve done many things including nearly surviving a semester of college (not quite done yet) and joined a fraternity as well getting my dad hooked to the xbox which is probably my crowning achievement tied with joining the fraternity and surviving a senior seminar class as a sophomore.

Now back history to all this is my dad is one of those outdoor type of guys. A master plumber and avid fisherman we last heard from him in my post reviewing an iPod Touch Fishing Game and he wasn’t too impressed. So, yesterday I was sitting down and playing Assassin’s Creed Two, which you’ll soon be hearing a post about cause it’s insanely good, and my dad walks in. After we talk for a couple minutes I asked him if he wanted to play and he said video games weren’t his thing. Now he says that a lot and either he’s saying that or reflecting how violent video games are. Well, I wasn’t going to be defeated that easily this time especially by a guy who usually strongly dislikes my gaming habit.

Speaking of gaming, this is  great time to mention that he’s not the only one who thinks my habits odd. You see, when people think of gamers they tend to think of overweight highschoolers with a Warcraft T-shirt on and really thick glasses. And you know what? They’re right, those kids usually are gamers, but I’d like to make the distinction that those aren’t the only gamers. That’d be like saying the only type of poet you have is the one with the long goatee, red berett, and empty stomach. There’s a lot more then that. There’s actually about as many different types of gamers as you have game types and that’s no coincidence (that’s marketing!). Take Rockband for example, got a group of normal looking (and more imporantly normal acting) friends who play it? Guess what? Gamers. How about all those ROTC guys and girls who play Call of Duty in their spare time? Gamers too. All a gamer is is someone who plays a videogame on a regular basis. Hey here’s a plottwist. Do you play Farmville on Facebook? Guess what. Ah huh, you’re a gamer too. Scary isn’t it?

So that’s my point. Anyone can play a videogame and it doesn’t make you fat to sit down and try one, even one you’re not use to. You get fat by not getting enough excercise and as Wii and DDR (remember when that was popular?) demonstrated you can definitely get excercise gaming. As for my dad? Well, he’s an Asteroids fan and if you don’t know what that is, ask your parents. “Hey I see my son play enough of these games,” my dad explains to my mom as he restarts for the n-teenth time, (because on the XBox there are no quarters), “now he can see what it looks like.”

Later we’re in the kitchen after I accidently unplugged the thing while trying to find my laptop charger. He’s convinced I did it on purpose. (The jury is still out.) I laughed and talked about this blog post. “Let me remind you, kids,” he says to me as he reaches below the counter, “that we invented video games.” He pulls out a plastic wrapped, microwaveable popcorn bag and begins to open it. “You’re just along for the ride.”

About ten minutes later, as I add tags this blog, I hear my parents in the living room. “How do I get it to start?” my dad asks aloud as he fumbles with the XBox controller. “Hit A,” my mom suggests. “I’m hitting X,Y,Z, B, and A,” my dad says with probably a couple extra letters you won’t find anywhere on the XBox,  “nothing’s happening.”

“Andy,” my mom yells from the living room, “come fix it.” My dad’s generation might have invented videogaming, but its the kids along for the ride that have kept up with the pace. On a final note, I keep with what I said, anyone can play a videogame, the trick is simply finding what they like.

Asi es Splinter Cell Conviction contara con una nueva variante para multijugador en linea y ademas añadira un modo cooperativo.

Esto fue dado a conocer gracias a la revista PC Zone en donde explican que el modo cooperativo será parecido al que fue incluido en Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, permitiendo a dos jugadores colaborar en distintas misiones, aunque no fue dado a conocer si serán escenarios alternos o dentro de la campaña principal.

Ubisoft aún no ofrece detalles oficiales sobre éstas nuevas modalidades, por lo que será necesario esperar al lanzamiento de la publicación el día 23 de Diciembre o mediante un comunicado oficial de la compañía para conocer más a fondo éstas nuevas opciones para Splinter Cell Conviction.

Si queridos lectores, ¡un año mas llega el Xtival! ¿Cómo? ¿Que no sabéis de que os estoy hablando? Seguro que me tomáis el pelo, ¿verdad? Solo por si acaso, os contaré de que se trata esto del Xtival.

Esta pequeña introducción (o guiño a los “tutoriales” que nos obligan a jugar algunos videojuegos) sirve para preparar el ambiente para este fin de semana, porque nos vamos de Xtival.

El Xtival es la oportunidad que todos los miembros Silver esperan; y el escenario para que los Gold encuentren torneos especiales que durante el resto del año no son tan frecuentes. Si os interesa saber mas sobre lo que nos brindará este Xtival, encontraréis la información tras el salto

Lo mas importante del Xtival, y como os mencionaba antes, es la oportunidad para los miembros Silver de ser “Gold” durante 72 horas (las comillas de Gold, son porque en anteriores ocasiones, aunque podían jugar online y descargar contenido para Golds, sus cuentas seguían siendo Silver, es decir obtienes privilegios Gold pero sin dejar de ser Silver. Este Xtival desconozco si realmente serán Golds en toda regla o no, pero por si acaso os dejo con esta pequeña aclaración).

Pero lo interesante no es el nivel de cuenta que tenga cada usuario, ya que al final todos disfrutaremos por igual del Xtival; lo importante es saber que eventos se han preparado para esta edición:

Juegos

• Fifa 10 (Viernes 27 – 18:00): Demuestra tus habilidades con el balón y participa en el torneo que se organizará en el Xtival, la diversión estará asegurada, pero lo mejor de todo es que habrá varios premios para los vencedores.

• Halo 3 & Halo 3: ODST (Viernes 27 – 23:00): Participa en diversos torneos para demostrar que tu equipo es el mejor equipo de Halo de Xbox Live. (Atentos a la participación de Xboxmaniac.es)

• Halo 3: ODST (Sábado 28 – 10:00): A pesar de que el viernes por la noche habrá torneos de Halo 3, el sábado la cosa se pone seria, las sonrisas se convertirán en sudor y el objetivo no será otro que convertirse en el mejor jugador de Halo 3: ODST y poder optar a un buen premio.

• Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Sábado 28 – 17:00): El ultimo torneo del Xtival buscará al mejor mercenario de CoD: MW2, ¿te sientes afortunado y te atreves a participar y a optar al premio para el vencedor?

• Oferta de Alta Definición (Viernes 27 – 12:00): “Durante el fin de semana Xtival, ofrecemos el alquiler de una película muy especial en alta definición al precio de una película de definición estándar”. Habrá que ver que película es la elegida, pero puede ser una propuesta interesante para los que tengan planeada una velada de cine en su casa.

• Tiësto (Viernes 27 – 12:00): Tiësto es el artista invitado de este Xtival y mientras dure el festival podremos descargarnos de forma gratuita (al precio de 200MS la canción) “Adagio For Strings” y “Break My Fall”; además también nos encontraremos con un mensaje especial de DJ Tiësto para los miembros de Xbox Live.

Espero que además de esta cartelera haya mas sorpresas; como un tema Premium del Xtival o ropa gratis para nuestros avatares. Dicen que soñar es gratis, y yo no pierdo la ilusión. Espero que paséis un buen Xtival

Everything from the first person shooter games to the strategy games to the role playing games, there have been a lot of different successful games. Gamers have remained mostly satisfied over the last four years with the games that have come out. There was recently a list created of the top twenty five games that have come out for the Xbox. Every single one of you probably has a different view on what games should be the top twenty five games. Maybe there are one or more games on this list that you have not gotten the chance to play. If there is, then you should definitely look into giving it a try as you will most likely enjoy it considering it is one of the top Xbox games. If the decision was up to you, is there anything you would change about the order of the list or would you add any new songs? Or do you agree with this list completely?

Do you have any Microsoft Points?  You’re going to need them!  Check out the Transformers stuff that was released today along side the Fallout 3 stuff.  The shirts are 80 M$ pts and the mask are 240.  There’s a shirt for each faction and one that just says Transformers.  You’ll also find a Bumblebee mask as well.

You have to ask yourself why would developers even bother with Avatar Awards when they can just make us pay for the stuff?  It’s safe to say that the awards really haven’t caught on with developers.  How many games feature awards?  ‘Spolsion Man? Lips?  Left 4 Dead 2?  Halo Waypoint?

4 developers?  That’s pretty lame.  I think Microsoft should make the awards mandatory like Achievements.

Sólo hay una cosa peor que perder mientras juegas on-line y es perder por culpa del famoso —y odiado —LAG. La buena noticia es que son cada vez más los esfuerzos por mejorar la experiencia del juego en línea. Y Valve se suma a estos esfuerzos. Según nos presume en el blog oficial de Left 4 Dead 2:

Hemos actualizado nuestra infraestructura de red para responder a la enorme demanda de L4D2. Los jugadores de Xbox 360 ahora tendrán servidores libres de lag. Hemos agregado también servidores dedicados.

Seguiremos vigilando la situación y añadiendo recursos cuando sean necesarios.

La consola de Microsoft ha cumplido 4 años y es que un día 22 del mes de  Noviembre [si lo sé, hoy en  26...] se empezó a comercializar la consola de Microsoft.

Después, problemas… cientos de consolas con defectos de fabricación, en la mayoría de los casos problemas de sobrecalentamiento, a partir de ahí el RROD [Red Ring of Death, el aro rojo de la muerte se empezó a ser muy popular [desafortunadamente].

Claro que no todo ha sido tragedia, sin duda hay muchos usuarios a los cuales sus consolas no les ha dado ningún tipo de problemas.

Que sería la industria de los videojuegos sin títulos como Gears of Wars, Halo o Forza, aquellas exclusivas que sirven para tenerle envidia a la consola Microsoft.

Sin lugar a dudas uno de los grandes de la nueva generación que estamos seguros en un futuro no muy lejano dará mucho de que hablar, viene Natal y lo esperamos con muchas ganas de ver una vez más como se revoluciona esta industria, este hobbie para muchos de nosotros… los videojuegos.

Si nos pusieramos a hablar de una consola y su historia nos llevariamos muuucho tiempo y definitivamente esta tiene mucha historia.

La compañía Namco Bandai ha brindado un comunicado oficial mediante una nota de prensa confirmando que el próximo día jueves 26 de noviembre se lanzará un parche de actualización completamente gratis para el reconocido juego de lucha Tekken 6. Este parche mejorará significativamente la calidad del juego online y lo podrán adquirir todos los usuarios de PS3 y Xbox 360.

A continuación les pasaremos a detallar las mejoras que estarán incluidas en este parche.

• Respuesta mejorada: nos encontraremos con una notable mejora en lo que respecta a la respuesta de los luchadores a la hora de la pulsación de los botones y en la realización de las diferentes técnicas de combate.

• Selección de prioridades en partidas igualadas: con esta opción podremos buscar oponentes en la red teniendo en cuenta aspectos como la posición en el ranking, la calidad de la conexión o el país de origen.

• Transmisión de datos optimizada entre luchadores y espectadores: podremos disminuir la carga sobre el ancho de banda de la consola anfitriona optimizando de la mejor manera los datos de combate.

• Barras para indicar la calidad de la conexión: nos encontraremos con una barra que nos señalará la intensidad de la señal de conexión.

• Poder cancelar un combate: podremos cancelar los combates antes de que empiecen en las partidas igualadas.

Microsoft Vs The Mods!

No This isn’t Paul Weller releasing his own console, but  Microsoft has found itself embroiled in a lawsuit over its decision to ban some Xbox 360 owners from Xbox Live.

Texas law company Abingdon IP is searching for gamers to join a class-action suit against Microsoft. The problem has arisen since the computer giant decided to ban gamers from Xbox live who had modded their consoles to play pirated games. It is estimated that some 600,000 XBL accounts who cut dead.

The law firm, Abingdon IP claims that the ban is unlawful and that it believes Microsoft is obtaining information from consoles illegally.

They also claim that the timing of the ban is suspect, saying that Microsoft timed the ban “to avoid putting people off signing up for Xbox Live so they could play the recent Halo and Call of Duty blockbusters online”.

It says that if Microsoft had carried out the ban before these releases, sales of both games and Xbox Live subscriptions would have suffered.

The official word from Microsoft has been “All consumers should know that piracy is illegal and that modifying their Xbox 360 console to play pirated discs violates the Xbox Live terms of use will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox Live.”

If the law firm, who are actively seeking users who have had their accounts stopped, are successful it will be a landmark day for pirates everywhere!

Tekken It Back!

News arrives that Tekken 6 has gone gold (gone into production) on PSP, with a release date for Europe and UK for December 11th.

With all the features from the console versions Tekken 6 PSP adds ad-hoc wi-fi versus battling.

In addition to containing all 18 battle stages and 40 playable characters in the home console version of TEKKEN 6, the PSP game also supports ad-hoc multiplayer versus battles fought across four additional stages. Battle modes include Arcade, Story, Ghost, Challenge and Practice, while the ad-hoc wi-fi features include the ability to send and receive ghost data allowing fights against opponents’ characters even when not connected with them.

The Screen shots are looking great, we will have a review as soon as we can!

Hey readers, I’m picking up a power level…Could it be…OVER 9000?! Okay sorry, had to do it. But what we’re really picking up is some downloadable content for Dragon Ball: Raging Blast! And you don’t need a scouter for that, in fact, you need nothing at all. It’s free! Thanks Namco Bandai for being so generous. Amidst all of the DLC out there that will usually cost you just for silly things like lame costumes and such, it’s nice to see some free DLC every now and then. Especially some that you can actually appreciate. With these DLC packs come a plethora of customizations with new power-ups for all your favorite DBZ characters. Here’s the word from Namco, along with a list of descriptions for the DLC packs and their release dates:

NAMCO BANDAI Games will release a series of free DLC packs for Dragon Ball: Raging Blast for Xbox 360 and PS3. The first pack in the series is now available on PlayStationNetwork and will be ready for download from Xbox LIVE Marketplace for Xbox 360 on Nov. 26, 2009. The series includes customized character packs that will be released as free downloadable content every two weeks between now and April 2010. Recreating the popular Dragon Ball Z series’ epic combat in all its glory, Dragon Ball: Raging Blast includes a host of exciting gameplay options including powerful and customizable attacks, stunning HD graphics, and a variety of gameplay modes including online or offline versus and tournament matches. Hello everyone!

Welcome to my geek guide! The wonderful world of video games, comics, sci-fi, fantasy, and all things geek! Everyone knows how much I love to play games… this week’s games are Assassin’s Creed II, and Left 4 Dead 2 (both released this Tues Nov 17th).

I attended the Assassin’s Creed suite, as well as the Maxim party that threw the launch party last week… they were both a blast! The graphics in the game are incredible, the missions take you throughout the Renaissance-era Italy, new weapons are created for you by Leonardo daVinci to assassinate the enemies. The second game picks up the loose ends from the first Assassin’s Creed. I find it quite entertaining and addicting… I played it for about 3 hours the first day I got it. Left 4 Dead 2 is one of the games I’ve been in anticipation for!! I just love shooting games… especially shooting zombies!! How can you resist not being able to annihilate zombies by a machete, guitar, or chainsaw?! It’s exhilarating to be able to attack the undead!! I must say, that this is one of my favorite games of all times. I love getting on Xbox Live and playing multi-player with my friends. It doesn’t get any better… killing zombies with your friends every night. I enjoy the fact that in this sequel, you are able to pick up other melee weapons to defend yourself. A frying pan always gets the zombie smack in the face!  I really enjoy using the chainsaw, machete, and the bat… Too much fun. My favorite campaign has to be the Carnival. This game is a bit more difficult than the first game, and has missions throughout the levels. It really helps if you play with others The game is well thought out, having the players run through the campaign collecting items, then having to follow through back to the beginning where the first level started. It’s like being in a zombie movie, but you’re in control! I can’t wait to pass all the campaigns, and play this over and over again!  What does everyone think of this game so far?
