PlayOnLinux adalah program emulator yang berjalan di sistem LINUX, selain yang udah biasa pake CrossOver atau Wine..kalo kita pake ini tentunya ga butuh lisensi seperti kalo kita jalanin exe di Mikocok ® Mendos ®.

Sebenernya sih udah banyak dolanan yang bisa jalan dengan lancar di LINUX… ini cuma tambahan kalo pake PlayOnLinux bisa mempermudah mainin exe-exe di LINUX kita. Juga agar kita meninggalkan sistem operasi yang tidak gratis itu… Ngapain bayar kalo ada yang gretong!

Compiz Fusion es una colección de plugins y un sistema de configuración para el gestor de composición de ventanas Compiz, para el sistema de ventanas X. Compiz Fusion es el resultado de la unión entre el paquete “Compiz Extras” de Compiz y las partes del proyecto Beryl, que era independiente del núcleo del gestor de ventanas. El propósito del proyecto es transportar casi todas las características de Beryl a los plugins de Compiz.

El día 20 de octubre de 2007 se lanzó la primera versión estable de Compiz Fusion, la versión 0.6.0.

La dernière fois, nous avons vu qu’en utilisant la fonction XGLP nous pouvons obtenir n’importe quel montant du GL relié ou non à un autre module. Une chose que XGLP ne retournera pas est le solde d’un compte.

Avec XGLP, il est possible de laisser le début de la période vide et d’entrer une date seulement pour la fin de la période pour obtenir un pseudo-solde. Ce n’est pas un vrai solde parce que le montant ne tient pas compte des soldes de départ. XLGL additionne seulement les montants des transactions, et non les soldes de départ pour les comptes/divisions.

Vous pouvez quand même utiliser la méthode si haut pour obtenir le solde d’un projet, ou d’un fournisseur, mais lorsqu’il vous faut le solde exact d’un compte ou d’un compte-division, vous devez utiliser XGL.

XGL est très similaire à XGLP, avec seulement quelque paramètre en moins. Voici un exemple:

=XGL(1020, “31/12/2008″, “0100″)

retournera le solde pour le compte 1020, division 0100 au 31 décembre 2008. XGL prend seulement une date comme il ne retourne qu’un solde. XGL prendra votre solde de départ et additionnera les montants des transactions jusqu’à la date demandée.

Vous utiliserez cette fonction pour faire un bilan par exemple.

Il nous une chose à voir concernant le GL: les budgets. La prochaine fois, nous jetterons un coup d’oeil à la nouvelle fonction XGLBudgets et son utlisation pour le GL.

Last time we saw that using the XGLP function we can fetch any figures from the GL related or not to other module. One thing that XGLP won’t do is return an account balance.

With XGLP, you can leave the beginning of the period empty and use only an end date to retrieve a pseudo-balance. It is not a real balance because it does not use starting balance. XLGL only adds transaction amount, not starting balance for account/department.

You can still use the method above to get the balance for a project, or a vendor, but when you need the exact balance for an account or account-department, you must use XGL.

XGL is very similar to XGLP, only with fewer arguments. Here is an example:

=XGL(1020, “12/31/2008″, “0100″)

will return the balance for account 1020, department 0100 on December 31st 2008. XGL take only one date as it returns a balance. XGL will take your starting balance and add transactions amount up to the date you request.

This is the function you would use to create a Balance sheet for example.

There is one thing concerning the GL we still have to look at and that is Budget. Next time, we’ll look at the new XGLBudgets function as it related to the GL.

So I have *buntu Hardy 8.04 with KDE 4.1 and wanted some wobbly windows. Ubuntu 8.04 with Gnome desktop has Compiz working by default, but Kubuntu with KDE 3.5 is a bit left behind on that regard. But the chances are good that you have the necessary hardware to run Compiz by yourself. It seems, in case of Nvidia cards, you don’t need Xgl, but with ATI it’s a musthave.

I wanted to write down the memo of how I got it working, but as I tried quite few tricks, I’m not so sure anymore. When I had buried all hope because of evil commentators all around the net talking how bad the ATI drivers are and what a lame ass X.org server it is that cannot do this and that on Kubuntu, I decided to still try it out and seem to have gotten it to work with a mixture of suggestions. So I’ll try to remember, how I did it, in the hopes that it’ll help somebody even a bit.

So here’s the software you need to install (at least):

sudo apt-get install compiz-core compiz-fusion-plugins-extra compiz-fusion-plugins-main compiz-plugins libcompizconfig0 compiz-kde compiz-plugins compizconfig-backend-kconfig compizconfig-settings-manager kicker-compiz kicker-taskbar-compiz fusion-icon xserver-xgl

Open Kcontrol(alt+f2 then type in ‘kcontrol’) and navigate to Desktop >> Multiple Desktops and change the number of desktops to 1. Close Kcontrol and remove the Desktop Preview & Pager and the Taskbar from the panel. Right click on the panel and select ‘Add Applet To Panel’. Add ‘Desktop Preview & Pager – Compiz’ and ‘Taksbar – Compiz’ to replace the old ones.

Now after I got some KDE errors and had lost hope, I shut my PC down and went shopping. Then a bit later, refreshed and ready, returned to the task but discovered Compiz Fusion already working. So I guess my suggestion would be to reboot your machine after all the above.

Apesar deste post não ser sobre o openSUSE em específico, é sobre um recurso interessante utilizado no openSUSE, o XGL que irá ter seu desenvolvimento interrompido…

Segundo o blog do Cyberorg,  a tecnologia de servidor X que fez possível o surgimento do Compiz e serviu de inspiração para os efeitos do kwin do KDE4, está morta! Sim, o XGL deixou de ser desenvolvido, pois a maioria dos recursos já são fornecidos pelo AIGLX (que é suportado ‘out-of-the-box’ no openSUSE 11.0 e pelo DRI2

No openSUSE 11.1 o XGL não será mais usado e fornecido.

I driver ATI fglrx, purtroppo, non sono ancora perfetti e necessitano sempre di ritocchi e trucchi per far sì che funzionino a dovere con SaX2. Dopo aver installato e configurato i driver fglrx capita infatti di ricevere un avviso di SaX2 che ci avverte che che non può caricare l’accelerazione 3D.

Il problema 99 volte su 100 non è affatto dell’accelerazione mancante ma proprio del fatto che essa non viene riconosciuta da SaX2; per ovviare a questo inconveniente e utilizzare l’accelerazione grafica per XGL e Compiz verifichiamo manualmente se i nostri driver stanno realmente funzionando e se l’accelerazione è disponibile o meno.

Prima di tutto diamo il comando:

$ glxinfo | grep rendering

Che dovrebbe darci come output “direct rendering: Yes”. Proviamo anche a vedere se davvero la nostra scheda stia funzionando con l’accelerazione 3D, avviando il programma di prova con gli ingranaggi 3D:

$  fgl_glxgears

Se tutto finora è andato a buon fine e riusciamo a vedere gli ingranaggi che ruotano in maniera fluida vuol dire che il nostro driver sta lavorando come si deve e che possiamo provare a far avviare da shell XGL e quindi Compiz Fusion. Apriamo un terminale e digitiamo il comando:

 $ gnome-xgl-switch --enable-xgl

Effettuiamo nuovamente il login a gnome e adesso, come per magia dovremmo avere gli effetti di compiz abilitati. Se così non fosse non allarmatevi, potete sempre disabilitare XGL dai terminali tty accessibili con CTRL-ALT-F1 (va bene da F1 ad F6). Fatto ciò basta loggarsi come root e dare il comando:

 $ gnome-xgl-switch --disable-xgl

Rieffettuare il login (se il server XGL non risponde basta premere CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE per farlo riavviare) per avere di nuovo il nostro Gnome 2D.

Yes, I was late. I keep avoiding having to upgrade to Gutsy, because Compiz/Beryl was pain to setup. I just don’t want to mess with something that is already running well, and won’t be very happy if compiz-fusion on Gutsy turns out to be a bummer.

But having tired of carefully keeping my beryl setup safe from package updates, I finally gave in, and press the upgrade button on the update manager.

And yes, compiz fusion failed to start right out of the box. Turns out my updated ATI driver (that the upgrade process decided to keep) was to “advanced”. Typing “fglrxinfo” on a terminal crash the xorg. So I decided to do it from the scratch. But everything else was fine… Application runs as they should be, including the Pentax Photo Laboratory (which runs over Wine) for processing RAW output for my K100D, wireless works, multimedia setting was carried out to Gutsy, restricted drivers were detected for my hardware, even my softmodem was detected. So I decided to do Compiz Fusion from the scratch. If you are in the same situation as mine (upgrading Feisty to Gutys, and have installed ATI restricted driver and Xgl), you might want to try these steps. Make sure you have internet connection up and running, preferably via LAN

Remove the “new” ATI driver
Start Synaptic from System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager. Search for any package that has “fglrx” it it’s name, and remove them, close Synaptic

Remove Xgl
Remove Xgl by opening terminal, and type

$sudo apt-get remove xserver-xgl

Reinstall ATI driver
I rebooted my system and.. tada!! xorg failed to find fglrx, and gave me CLI. So you might want to avoid restarting your system. As for me, since the my wireless connection still works, it was a no issue. So I proceed to the next step:

$sudo apt-get install xorg-driver-fglrx

Then I reboot my system. Checked the driver:

$fglrxinfo

The output was

display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300
OpenGL version string: 2.0.6473 (8.37.6)

If you still see mesa entries on the output of that command, please run “aticonfig –initial” to setup the xorg.conf. Make sure the driver version is 8.3x, as 8.42 decides to play funny games with xgl, but won’t start composite without xgl.

Reinstall xgl
This is straight forward, just type:

$sudo apt-get install xserver-xgl

On Gutsy, you don’t need to setup a separate X session for Xgl, so reboot, then Xgl is active

Install Compiz Fusion

$sudo aptitude install compiz compiz-core compiz-fusion-plugins-extra compiz-fusion-plugins-main compiz-gnome compiz-plugins compizconfig-settings-manager libcompizconfig-backend-gconf libcompizconfig0 python-compizconfig

Go to “System > Preference > Appearance”, go to Visual Effects tab, and activate compiz by selecting “custom”. Compiz is available the next time i rebooted.

What I missed from this basic installation of compiz is the emerald theme manager. It can be easily installed by typing:

$sudo apt-get install emerald

Emerald includes Emerald theme managers that helps on changing desktop themes. Just type “emerald-theme-manager” on a terminal, select your desired theme. for the change to take effect, you need to reload compiz. I do this by opening a terminal, and type:

$metacity –replace

This will replace compiz with Gnome basic theme manager, Metacity. Then reload compiz again, by typing :

$compiz –replace

To make things easier, consider installing Compiz Fusion Icon. It will provide shortcut to most of things related to desktop setting, including emerald manager, and helps you reload a windows manager to refresh the desktop if you just changed the theme by using emerald-theme-manager.

*UPDATE April 5th 2008*
Prior moving to Gutsy, I mainly use my laptop on my wireless network at my home. This was set to no security. As I’m planning to travel this month, it occurs to me that my wireless interface might be required to support some kind of security scheme like wep or wpa. So i skimmed through some sites regarding this topic, and I was horrified to find out that wpa/wpa2 support in Gutsy and Feisty is not working for lots of people. My wireless experience with Ubuntu is almost trouble free, and wpa was already supported out of the box, as I used to set my wireless router to wpa personal, but switched away, since other people at my household (namely my dad, who used to be very computer savvy with Lotus 123 and wordstar) were having difficulties connecting to the router.
So to test whether wpa is still supported by my Gutsy install, I decided to turn on wpa2 on my router. My wireless connection immediately ceased working. My wireless network showed up on network manager accompanied with secure “shield” logo. Tried to connect…

And It Works!

Acabo de encontrar googleando una bonita aplicación en perl/gtk2 para lanzar juegos en una sesion X distinta, tal y como hace mi x-game-launcher.

La principal diferencia esque mientras este es un menú gráfico para lanzar los juegos, el mio directamente los modifica en /usr/games, de forma que no teneis que preocuparos por nada ni dejar de utilizar vuestros menús normales, por contra, siempre que lanceis dichos juegos, apareceran en una sesion X distinta.

Y, otra cosa que olvidé: La forma de revertir los cambios del instalador:

rm -r /usr/games
mv /usr/oldgames /usr/games

Así de simple .

Add the following lines to the ~/.Xdefaults to get a transparent urxvt terminal:
urxvt*depth: 32
urxvt*background: rgba:0000/0000/0000/dddd

The depth option tells urxvt to use 32 bits to define a color. Generally a color is represented as 24 bits (8 bits each for Red. Blue and Green). We add 8 more bits to store the Alpha(transparency) information. More info

Then we set the background option to denote the 4 different color information : Red/Blue/Green/Alpha.

To change the shading change the Alpha value in background option. 0000 = full transparent and ffff = no transparency.
