in life, there are some things that are worth waiting for. sushi perhaps, taro milk tea with coconut jelly maybe, a first kiss with a loved one, or even the playoffs. I don’t know much about waiting. i am a pretty impatient person. but three days ago, I decided to wait for something BIG. ICONIC as some would put it. something that comes once in a blue moon.

12/23/2009 – the release of the Jordan XI Space Jams - Behold:

so as i stood in the freezing cold at 8 in the morning outside Livestock, I thought to myself, “i am a part of something bigger than myself”. these kicks have transcended time, and taken over the entire shoe culture. they are the IMAGE of what Jordan wore! don’t tell me that you don’t start getting giddy when you see someone rocking these XI’s!

i was sixth in line, behind some pretty dedicated fanatics, and there was even a guy who had been lining up since 4 in the morning. it was a peaceful scene. little did i know that in many cities around the continent, at that exact time mayhem had broken loose.

south of the border, footlockers had been broken in to, cops had arrived to intervene, and crowds of people had infiltrated the malls. in downtown vancouver, we had all but 12 people in our line waiting gracefully, happily hoping to get our hands on a pair of space jams. sure, i had to pass the time with some small talk with my fellow patient compadres. sure, i had to listen to some espn podcasts to make sure i was sane after the first hour. i even had to call P. up a million times because i know he would be interested (he eventually showed up later to cop a pair) but it was WELL WORTH the wait.

livestock would eventually open up at 11am, allowing 5 people in the store at a time to pick up their individual treasures. as i picked mine up and looked at them, i knew i was a part of history, and you know what, these were definitely not JUST a pair of shoes.

Here’s the next two songs in the collection. I want to put up more today, but I’ll hold off. Indeed I was lazy with the pictures on these two, I apologize for that. I have something important I would like to go over though.

Should my youtube account ever kick the bucket I would like to reassure you that I will continue the collection here on my blog. I’ll figure out a way to make things work when that time comes (and yes I will still put pictures with the music). I won’t let something small like that come between me and my collection.

Broken Moon, if you didn’t know, was originally just a stage theme, but later became one of Suika’s themes in Scarlet Weather Rhapsody. This piece is a little faster than I would like for Broken Moon, but it was the only song that gave a strong impression. Regardless it’s very good and if you couldn’t tell is by Xi of AQUAELIE. I hope to find an arrange that does Broken Moon the justice it needs.

I admit I the thought didn’t cross my mind that an arrange for Mystic Oriental Dream ~ Ancient Temple could blow me away like this piece did. Sonic Hispeed Omega (SHO for short) did a wonderful job on this song. It’s exactly what I wanted an arrange of Ancient Temple to be so I am very happy to share it with everyone.

I am glad that I have retired as a shoe-head. I confess, I tricked tons and tons on rare Jordans and whatnot. I stood in a few lines and camped out by many a computer just to get a taste of the Rare Airs that I know will break necks. I once copped pairs of shoes in pairs, now-a-laters. A pair for now, and a pair for later. The result? Too many shoes to wear, not enough days.

I say this because yesterday the Space Jam XI dropped again, and for a minute I almost got caught up in the hype. I tend to stay away from my usual Jordan sites to make sure I don’t fall into the hype. But with this coveted release the press leaked out on a few sites I frequent. All of a sudden I heard the little Jordan Devil telling me “Go ahead in cop a few pairs, you know you love the smell of new kicks!” That’s when I knew it was real. Temptation has returned.

So I had to step back and put it back into perspective, “Danny, you still have a deadstock (laters) pair of Space Jams waiting for you to bust open. Don’t fall into the hype!” Good angel, bad devil, what to do?

I will say that the good angel won out this time. I played the responsible role. But to those who did go out and brave the lines how was it? Did your experience look anything like this?

It’s been quite a busy fortnight for me and it has absolutely nothing to do with the build up to Christmas (4 days… *unenthusiastic* “yay”). However, given the free time that has been bestowed upon me (a whole MONTH!), I now have a moment to post.  As I hinted around two sentences ago, university has had me pinned down like crazy. Irregular sleeping patterns due to a 10,000 word business plan,  a “hard-as-nails” Japanese coursework piece, a “harder-than-what-was-though-to-be-hard-as- nails” Japanese oral assessment and Economics (’nuff said).

Anyways, today (or was it yesterday?) was no exception… This final piece of work (which I have now finished… at last!) had me up until BEYOND 5:30am… Would you care to guess what it was?

A Blog!

Ironic huh? A mere blog had me stumped until the early hours. It wasn’t difficult as such, but when asked to write about yourself things always assume a new degree of difficulty. But regardless, I got to work whilst struggling to avoid all things that would steer me off the course ( CrookedTongue Forums, Solecollector Forums, FaRcebook and Twitter). I managed to keep this up until my train of thought derailed, went down the beaten path, and crashed into the beacon of awesomeness that is the iPhone! Not to mention, I was getting cold and hungry.

The flames of distraction burned until about 5:30am when my mum comes into my room:

Mum: I’m going to Tesco’s
Me: WTF?!

Being an idiot AND a good son I accompany her… on what was probably the coldest morning EVER.

It was relentlessly cold out there. I mean, I understand everyone wants a “White Christmas”, but it doesn’t count for much when it’s this cold and when modern-day Santas can’t make deliveries because they are thwarted by 20cm of snow now does it?

Honestly? White Christmas? It’s the last thing I need. The Air Jordan XI “Space Jam” drops here in London 2 days from now… I’ll be damned if snow means I can’t get a pair!

Now I love Star Trek and Star Wars equally. I do not favor one above the other, they both have their ups and downs. But I do not hold them against each other like one is the white supremacist and the other is a colored man. Who cares about the differences that much? Shit be in space, impossible things happen, it’s all awesome.

Now when I saw that they were making another star trek movie, my first thought was, oh god. We are screwed. Because the last movie they made with the TNG (The Next Generation) crew was terrible, one of the worst and boring movies of all time in my opinion. But this movie was focusing back on the TOS (The Original Series) and that peaked my interest. I was wondering how they were going to get William Shatner, and Leonard Nimoy back to play their parts. Well Nimoy came back, but Shatner was nowhere to be found. That’s ok. This movie gripped you from the get go and never let up.

This was also why a lot of fanboys hated it. It was a non-stop action fest with an intriguing story. Wait, what’s to hate about that? I’m sorry did they not go deep into the science of it like they usually do? Yes they did, it’s just not as profound as in the other movies. It’s there; it’s just hidden more to not bore the crap out of the normal population. But it exists, I promise you.

Now the intro was amazing. It set the pace for the whole movie, and the movie kept that pace. It was engaging, funny, interesting, and above all awesome. Now the intro in this movie actually had me crying. I mean damn near bawling. I have watched the entire first season of Star Trek TOS, but I never got further than that. So I know the background of it, but I was not expecting what I saw. The opening blew me away. And I know that when I saw this in theatres I was not the only one crying. I heard sniffles and some people actually straight out crying. I have never seen a movie do that to an entire audience like that ever before.

Now all of the actors did a remarkable job. I could not have chosen a better ‘replacement’ staff of the Enterprise then this collection of awesomeness. All of the actors did such a good job that after about 20 minutes or so in you don’t even realize that they replaced the old crew seamlessly. From the simple way they talk to the way they move and exhibit the exact behaviors of the original crew, it’s astonishing. I don’t think I have ever seen a better replacement in my life.

The other thing that really stood out to me was when they were on the ice planet, was that there were actually creatures. Mother fucking creatures! Star Trek never touched on the fact that there are other indigenous life forms on planets other than the intelligent one. Well this actually covers that, and let me tell you its fucking crazy scary. But it finally answers the question I have always had about why there were no other life-forms (other than plants) on class M planets.

Now the ending I almost saw coming. It was the only slightly disappointing part of the movie, and even saying that it was not so bad that it ruined it. Hell if you were thinking at all during the movie it damn near stood out, but there was no other possible way it could have ended. So it’s a good thing that they followed their plan for this movie.

All in all, this movie is amazing, flat out one of the best movies of the summer and I’m glad that I saw it in theatres. I am also amazed at the packaging for the movie.


Its shit like this that will keep people from pirating movies.

All in all this entire movie is amazing. Star Trek fan or not, this movie will surprise you on how good it actually is.

yeah, i have luckily become a tester for the new Nagios XI (eXtended Interface) tool and I thought…. Lets devote a post to this new product!

Well first i was a bit surprised that the new product comes as a VM package meaning that you will download a virtual machine with all the required settings pre-configured for you. When reading various posts on the subject, its all support related, which brings me to the second point. Nope, Nagios XI will not be open source as in “free for download”, but it will be open source as in “your free to develop ontop of the original product”.

Yea i know this will raise allot of questions, but drilling down to the source of this ‘little evil’ it seems that developers need to be payed, so lets blame society for this and not the people developing and releasing the product.

What does it do?
Well the Nagios-Core (which is and stays free for download) monitors network nodes using check_commands that can be utilized by nagios to check for a wide range of network services like; Ping,Oracle,NTP,DHCP,CPU,MEM,DISKSpace.

Using the data the Nagios-Core collects there are a wide range of exsisting GUIs that can make this data visible in many different ways like; headsup-displays,performance-graphs,traffic-lights etc. And allows people to be notified using mail,sms,or other means.

Whats XI?
Well most of the GUIs had a mayor downside, it required a fair amount of know how to get it up and running. You needed to compile allot of tar-bals, install allot different RPMs and next you needed to make all these different things work together using some kind of a unified configuration that could reach 1M lines easily when you wanted all the fancy features.

Nagios-XI primarily makes the nagios tool and its GUI available for non-skilled users that dont have any affinity with linux. Its a VMware image that you can boot easily using a VMware player. Next thing you need to do is configure an IP (with extended manual) and open your explorer. The rest is done from there, pre-configured and working without a hassle.

Next to that the GUI is fully graphical including configuration wizards, custom dashboards (drag-drop style), custom views, custom almost everything. In short, Next, Next, Finish!

Im not sure seasoned engineers like myself would buy this product quickly, most of us would compile, configure, and download a GNU gui and work from there. But i do think there is a large market out there of engineers that dont have the required time, or linux know-how to get up and running. For these people i think Nagios XI will be a welcome alternative!
