I found this video on a fellow martial arts school owner out in Seattle. So for all of you Zandri’s students who are fans of XMA style martial arts, enjoy.

Of course, DON’T try any of these tricks at home. But if you happen to be in the BBT, Masters or Leadership programs you are currently learning all the fundamentals necessary to perform many of these tricks.  In fact, some of our students can already do a lot of them.  We will also be teaching a lot of these fundamentals in our summer camps.

After I emo-ed away my dreams as a copywriter, I needed some serious existential guidance - if only Irvin Yalom had a satellite office in Manchester. After returning home from Richmond, it was suggested that I pursue something I love – something I’m great at – in order to get the ball rolling again. Sure, it took more than just a good book and some talking to get me back up again, but I’m here nonetheless.

Strategic marketing always made sense to me – but like most – the creative side always seemed sexier. Plus, since my dad’s specialty is OL – at the same school – I always sort of avoided the SNHU B-school at all costs. But since enrolling in the marketing program, I realized that communication strategy can be just as sexy as copywriting…

actually – it’s sexier.

And, while Jules, Dubs, and the rest of the Brandcenter blogroll would disagree – it’s apples and oranges. After dedicating myself to the trade these last few months, the days of slaving over tag-lines and body copy seem like torture – and they might have been just that.

I did well in Don Just’s “Business of Advertising” class – but that was a high-level overview – an intro to one of the four P’s. But my understanding of the promotion side of the business has made the transition into product, price, and place that much easier.

It’s amazing how easy easy it is to keep up with work when you love what you’re doing – 95% love what your doing, to be exact. If I pulled off an A average at Hamilton, I’d be paying $80k to struggle with long-winded professors at the Harvard Business School – thank god I had fun in college.

Of course, rationalization is a powerful thing. But as far as I’m concerned, I’ll let my undergrad education do the branding and my graduate GPA earn the salary.

I just started working at a local tech firm in the mill-yard called XMA Corporation. It’s a marketer’s dream. Not only do they need a COMPLETE overhaul – website, branding, logo, mission, and promotional strategy – but they’ve empowered me as the “marketing specialist” to recommend and implement these changes.

I can’t get into specifics without getting sued over some sort of silly proprietary information law – whatever that is – but my next post will document the huge differences between analyzing neatly condensed case studies and actually picking a company apart as an “objective” marketer. This job gets my rocks off. Or, as Coz would say, gives me a “fuckin‘ hit.”

my colleague said the xmas party last saturday on our office was killer and i missed some fragment of my life because i was at home making a beeline for the sheets. there were beers, food, games, videoke, barhopping, etc.

Merry belated Christmas!

I am always behind with my greetings (as I always am behind with updating blogs, etc etc). Was going to post about christmas yesterday, but caught up with sleep instead (one can never have enough sleep, i always say), so here I am, on a very busy working day, squeezing in some time to write something.

But I digress.

I just wanted to share some christmas spirit in town this year, as I always try to do every year (and usually belated too, so i’m keeping in with tradition eh?)

The Curve really went to town this year, with all sorts of lights, a rollerblading rink and Frosty to greet you.

They even had snow! Well, the picture’s not too good, so we would have to use our imagination, would we not? But I loved the lights and the atmosphere.

KLCC had their usual giant Christmas tree, which i distinctly remember from last year. So nothing new there eh? But they had some hanging wreaths along the way which was new.

Actually, I personally thought their Deepavali columns were a lot better? Absolutely gorgeous dahlink!

Oh well, while we’re at it, the one at KL Sentral  was good too.

I was at a get together christmas eve, but that’s coming up in another posting.

Tum ti tum, back to work! (or at least thinking about doing work).

Tuck the kids in. Kick back. Relax.

Or at least, until next year again.

I’m visiting my family in DC this week, but here’s a shot I took before I left. It’s of my sparkly fake Christmas tree back home in Seattle.

Merry Christmas! I’ll be back from vacation on the 29th.

I made out like a bandit in the mansion of a blind millionaire who wasn’t home because he was visiting family in another state, and would’ve had the new Brinks(tm) alarm system up except it wasn’t installed because Larry’s sister-in-Law had a baby so he feigned illness and no one was able to come out before the unnamed blind guy left town.

Xmas isn’t about the giving, it’s about the taking. I am now the proud owner of an infrared laser-guided digital thermometer, when just hours before I wasn’t.  Also got a kickass jacket and a bag of cash.
