Several weeks ago, I attended my friend Bobby’s “Best of ‘09″ CD swap party. What that entailed was a bunch of people creating their own mixed CD featuring what they thought was the best music of the year, burning multiple copies, attending the party and exchanging them with others. Fantastic idea. I was seriously excited about this party and like everyone else I talked to, I was excited to create my own little mix to share with others. But man, it was a tough feat.

I was fairly satisfied with the resulting mix I came up with though. I took a very personal approach to putting together the tracklisting, having most of the CD reflect me in an almost autobiographical and chronological manner; here’s what I put on it:

To some, this may seem sporadic and weird, but to me that’s just exactly how my year turned out. 2009 was a strange year for me, filled with an equal amount of joy and heartbreak, of which I will get into in a separate post. But my point is that this is how I hear my things when I think about the past 12 months of my life. One moment it’s happy and cheerful and the next, I couldn’t have been more sad and heartbroken. To some, the flow of songs was crucial to the making of the mix but this was just how things flowed for me. Again, I’ll get into details in another post but I just wanted to quickly touch on why my mix for Bobby’s party was the way it was. Yes, I did it on purpose; I’m not a terrible song arranger. If I didn’t take such a personal approach to this mix, the fluidity of songs would’ve been completely different. Here’s to a smoother year in 2010!

I’m happy.  I’m relaxed. My mind is at ease. The blockage of thoughts is finally filtered

Rent Inspections – The point? I’m not sure, I’ve only had one since I’ve been in my house for the better part of two years.  I was meant to have one last week. My gal and I had the day off, Swallowed some No-Doze, Chased it with Red-bull and proceeded on the dust, cobwebs, linen, rubbish, toilet rolls and food remnants around the house. Pasta thrown on the wall for checking time.  If it sticks, its ready. Also some on the roof.  Sticky blue streamers aligning the walls from many a party ago. Glass throughout the house swept into piles, then the vacuum broke. Doh.

I hope when they inspect today (after missing the one last week) They realised how hot the god damn place is in summer. Perhaps I should have waited till today to Alfoil my windows. I slept in utter darkness, not awoken by the rays of light bouncing off the colourbond fence 1 metre away from my head. I woke up to a dark cool room. You have no idea how happy this makes me. I’m eagerly ecstatic to sleep in tomorrow!! yay!! Actually, I have my work Christmas party tonight at a nightclub, and I’ve given up my spot in the shared hotel room with my mates, to help a girlfriend out so she can stay with her man, and so I can sleep in, not only a dark room, oh no. But a CLEAN room (Domestos even used – Although it did stain some things) with CLEAN sheets and it just feels so damn CLEAN!

The guests tomorrow night who somehow end up in my room (as we always do) are going to be gobsmacked with the space of it. and the fact its CLEAN!

I’m quite anxious over who may be present tomorrow night. I mean last time I was so incoherently wasted prior to anyone arriving that I still don’t recall who was actually there. therefore, it doesn’t matter. However I plan to be soberly straight for the entire event of tomorrow, thus my conflicting anxiety kicks in. Perhaps I will just share a few joints and let the good times roll. The music was over powered last time and fights broke out over it. This time, people have requested they bring their own music onto made up cds and iPods etc. The night IS about MY Gal and I so therefore, we will change the music as we see fit..

It has also come to my attention that my light brown fluffy hair above my lip, has this year become more prominent. I said I never would but the time has come to swallow my words. I’m waxing my upper lip. God have mercy. I’m allergic to some waxes, the last thing I want is to look like a swollen buffoon at my work do tonight, and my event tomorrow!!

On the upnote, Meeting a guy tonight that I’ve been smsing and talking to on the neat and phone for almost six weeks now..  First one to be vulgar, or dirty etc. I’m liking it, ready to meet him.

Okay… well, because as of now, there is a high chance that there’ll be no school… which sucks by the way… I’ve decided to do a proper Blog. “A proper Blog?” I hear you wonder… Yes… instead of sugar coating it all I’m going to be all moody and really let go of the bottle!

Okay, this is basically the WONDERFUL party. I know that the only two that will read this will be Max and Ben anyway…

Okay, so when I got back from school on that wednesday I was feeling a bit anxious about the party… before I knew it we were having to get ready to leave… my brother came home at the last second and gave me his tie and a better shirt… then I was off… and back because I forgot my ticket.

The way there was horrible because my dad began swearing like mad yelling that Suffolk was backwards but we eventually found the place… expecting to be one of the first there I was happy to see Tom Baines, Ben and Nico to talk to for a bit. Chloé and gang arrived and I talked to them for a bit before they were told to go back the right way… didn’t see them for a while.

Simon and I talked and blah blah blah… okay, so basically… Everyone either turned up to the party drunk or stoned (or both) and planned on becoming drunk or stoned (or both) which was already spelling out disaster….

The evening gradually progressed and I was slowly getting more and more annoyed. WHY!? Well, I began to get the feeling I wasn’t wanted by most people in how I would always be cut out of conversations within seconds and then left by myself… I began to realise that I didn’t properly fit in with ANY group meaning I don’t have many close friends…

One of the worst heart wrenching parts was watching the person I love talk to pretty much everyone… embrace a lot of people as well, in front of me and then be gone without even noticing my existence. So that game began to get old and really quite painful.

Some big hoopla began to unfold and I managed to tag along with Simon for ages… Then I tried talking to others again which made me feel worse as the same began to happen and it began to really hurt… Talking to Simon I was then suddenly swept away to the Foyer area.

Simon and I then talked about pretty much the above and had one of our talks about how this whole thing is really shit and how everything is too separated and blah. Nat Fairs came out to see us and comfort me ‘n’ what not and went away for a second and then came back with a tissue for my eyes… oh how embarrassing…

So yeah, we talked some more then something happened and we ended up sitting on the floor feeling depressed and pissed off about the whole thing. Adam popped up for a second then Chloé came over for a second but only to poke Adam in the side then go off around the corner to have a talk with him, then I didn’t see her again the entire evening…

I know I’m being really petty… but this how I felt on the day… I was really depressed cause the people  I wanted to talk to were ignoring me, sure not on purpose but it still really hurt.

On that day I was also quite hungry… having a bowl of cereal, a slice of cheesecake, 3 jelly beans, 2 gummy strawberries and one peaches and cream lolly. Filling.

Unfortunately, Simon had to leave so I was left with no one to talk to. I found Adam and Luke and talked to them for a bit, I couldn’t help think they wanted to be somewhere else… It hit midnight so I said, “I’ll brb” and then saw my dad was here and left. Dad didn’t say a word to me at all… Car journey was silent… sadly he didn’t even see the tear roll down my cheek. OH HOW DEEP AND EMO! Yes oh ho ho1 Look at that… no… But yeah, got home… went upstairs, bitched to foreign friends and then tried to go to sleep at 1:30am… I ended up lying awake for a whole hour in the dark, which feels like forever on your own….

Overall, the whole ordeal was crap… and it has continued on into today. Simon is still depressed…. I’m still constantly swinging between urges to kill myself and urges to slightly maim myself. Max is feeling miserable. Everyone else is hung over and grumpy.

I know I’ve basically shot myself in the foot putting this but I did not enjoy the entire thing. Sure, I guess this will all be turned back on me by “You should really try more” and other such phrases. But, I guess I’ll have to put up with it and be viewed as the villain for being pathetic and what not.

At this rate there isn’t going to be any school tomorrow which will suck major, cause Fridays are my best days… I love my fridays… normally… Which just makes it all worse…

Oh yeah, because I am being honest… currently my torso is in VAST amounts of pain and looks like a chopping board!

How to Survive the holidays

Lose pounds and eat healthy

Everyone loves a party! There’s something about getting together with your friends that really helps you forget the stress of your hectic daily life.  And with so many people trying to live healthier these days, finding tasty and nutrition-friendly food really isn’t as hard as it used to be.

Deciding what to choose can be a challenge though and with greater quantity comes greater temptation – scientists have proven that we eat more if food is available buffet style!

So if you’re hosting & cooking for the party, it’s up to you to find healthy recipes for your guests that won’t add to their waistlines.

Here are some tips for healthier food choices:

1. Reduce the fat in creamy dressings or dips by using low-fat or fat-free yogurt instead of sour cream or mayonnaise.  Offer hummus as a low-fat spread for crackers and vegetables.

2. Use non-stick cookware so you can cook with a minimum amount of oil or use a low- calorie vegetable spray.

3. Use flavoured vinegars or lemon juice to enhance flavour of a salad without adding fat.

Or fill a spray bottle with oil and vinegar so your guests can lightly mist their salads with  just enough flavour.

4. Use low fat milk and cheese in recipes instead of full fat varieties.

5. Choose oven baked over fried everytime. Baked foods are always a better choice.

6. Instead of bowls of pretzels or potato chips, offer your guests a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables. Break out of the carrot sticks and celery routine with an Asian-style vegetable platter of baby corn, snow peas and fresh bean sprouts drizzled in a low-fat seasame dressing. For another interesting variation, try a southwestern theme of fresh salsa, black beans and corn served in half a red pepper.

7. Nuts are a heart-healthy snack choice. Roasted almonds are  a great source of magnesium and vitamin E, while pecans and other nuts are rich in monounsaturated fat.   Look for raw, unsalted or lightly salted varieties of your favourite nuts.

8. Don’t bury good foods under fat and sugar. Sweet potatoes are naturally sweet and don’t need extra sugar.  Bake them, slice and sprinkle cinnamon instead.

9. Serve gravies and other sauces on the side so guests can choose how much they would like. When you’re making gravy, skim off the fat with a gravy-separating cup or let the drippings cool in the refrigerator first and remove the hardened fat before making the  gravy.

10. Offer alcohol free-drinks. Spritzers made with sparkling water and cranberry (or other fresh juices) and virgin Caesars don’t contain empty alcohol calories.  Look for 100% juice (not juice mixes), and they’ll count towards your guests’ daily fruit and vegetable quota.

11. Need dessert ideas?  Forgo the high-fat cheesecake and pastries. Instead, serve Angel food cake or yogurt and top it with fresh berries, sorbet and exotic fruits such as mango, papaya and kiwi.

If you’re attending a party, here are a few tips to help you make healthier choices:

1.  Don’t arrive hungry. Hunger can make it difficult to make good food choices-everything looks delicious when you’re starving.  Have some soup, a handful almonds of half a sandwich and drink water to take the edge off your hunger before coming to the party.

2.  Maintain your regular eating pattern throughout the day prior to the party.Saving up your calories for the party is not the best idea.  Continue to eat a meal or snack every 3-4 hrs instead of every 2-3 hrs.

DO NOT GO MORE THAN 4HRS WITHOUT EATING!!!

3.  Take a walk around to see what food is available before you pick up a plate. Take note of the healthy selections.

4.  Fill half your plate with fruits and vegetables. Then choose a few other items to round out your meal.

5.  Limit yourself to one trip to the serving table. If you’re still hungry, go for the healthy produce options.

6.  Cut down on portion sizes to allow yourself a bite or two of your favourites. Use a smaller plate and serve your food with a teaspoon instead of a serving spoon.

7.  Reduce your alcohol consumption. Drinking alcohol lowers your inhibitions, making you more likely to make poor food choices.  Enjoy a drink, but alternate with a glass of mineral water or diet soda.

8.  If you want to have an appetizer, select something nutrient rich, like bruschetta with fresh tomatoes or shirmp in cocktail sauce.

9.  Enjoy desserts in small portions. It’s the first three of four bites that tasts the best, so take a small portion of your favourite and savour each bite.

Parties are opportunities to be social, so have fun!  Don’t let the food distract you from talking with friends and family.  And even if the tables are laden with your favourites, with a little forethought and preparation, you can make healthy food choices that won’t derail your good eating habits

Winter has hit gpw so soon after GOBBLER (named by JONQUIL) has left.

Our Christmas party will be held on 17th December. Details still top secret, but you will all know in due course once The Social Committee has finalised their plans.

Sexy-Sexay! Lace leggings are here. What is it about winter and lace? I shouldn’t complain because now I have no excuse to wear dresses to my dinner parties. I often opt for the pant look as it is so cold in the winter. I guess I shouldn’t complain, I live in Vancouver. The younger celebrities are pairing their black lace leggings with a simple black cocktail dress. This is a look that a person my age can pull off. While there are various colours of lace leggings out there… remember to keep the colours in your outfit uniformed. For example. If you have dark gray lace leggings, pair it with an even darker shade of gray whether it be a dress, cropped pant, or sweater dress. And, Christmas does not not give you an excuse to pair red with green. I don’t want my readers showing up at a fancy dinner party with a green dress and red lace leggings. No-no-no! Have fun with this look.

well, it’s been quite awhile. i did not mean to have this long a gap in my posts, but somehow, it seemed like the past december, everything happened all at once in fast forward motion.

me and my girls, fen, flo, kai, cathy and maraya had a xmas dinner party and exchange of gifts at dampa, ortigas complex. it’s always great to hang out with these girls because they are after my own heart – hardworking souls, unpretentious personalities, cheerful witticisms and hearty appetites! we managed to gulp down 5 seafood dishes. i felt like drowning myself with the delicious shrimp sinigang. and i cannot stop myself from stuffing my face with buttered shrimps – just like how flo, kai and fen managed to mangle 1 kilo of crabs in our ginataang alimango (crabs cooked with coconut milk) dish.

and then, i had my employee evaluation at AITS with my company boss and department supervisor at italiannis restaurant, trinoma mall. i should have blogged about it. but well, apart from the facts like:

1. it was my very first one on one performance evaluation with a company, in my almost 9 years work experience.

2. the result was good, and

3. the increase in salary, as promised, was given

there was nothing much to tell. you don’t expect me to scan and show my evaluation results here, do you?

and then there was the AITS xmas (costume) party last dec. 17 at the city garden hotel, makati city.  My whole shebang of a costume got great comments, but was not able to bag the prize for best in costume. oh well. it was my first time! (wait out for the 2nd time and i’ll know better….or perhaps not). i was not able to get a major prize from the raffle draw, too. but that’s fine, too! i got my first gift basket from a company, for the first time in my almost 9 years work experience (deja vu?) and as always, a great time was had by all. being with this company is being lighthearted, cheery and intelligent that we all belong and appreciate each other. i cannot explain why it is so – it just is.

and then before i was even ready to pack up and go, the time to depart manila for my vacation in bicol came. it took me two days to buy all the christmas gifts i need for family and friends.

i arrived in my rainy hometown on dec. 22 and directly reported for work coz official vacation would not start until dec. 24, 1PM. good thing there was wifi already at the (one and only) internet shop in our town of bacacay. whew. saved me from getting frustrated in renting internet shop PC.

and, it was great to be with my jolly family again to celebrate christmas and new year, under the half-roof of our under construction house, hehehe. here’s our latest complete family pic. (as you will obviously observe, i was big on pics last 2008. i took tons of pictures, justifying the fact that i was deprived of it from early teen up to early adulthood years) :

…when the vacation sped by, sped by it did. all i remember was a blur of comings and goings and i wished the vacation was longer. i got to see some old, old friends but i had not bothered contacting others. i felt reclusive. on really heavy rainy days, all i did was stay in bed and read – all throughout the day and well into midnight.

kmhln arrived in bicol for vacation on dec. 31 and we had some rift over how we’re gonna spend the new year. he came by our house and spent media noche and jan. 1 morning with us. and then i read a text message from his sister telling him that he should not have gone home if he will not even be able to spend the new year with them anyway. i definitely felt left out and disliked. it seems they do not want me  to be with kamahalan anymore . if i had my way i would not have gone there.
