atom.xml?redirect=false

atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=100

atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=100&max-results=200

Setiap kali mencantumkan satu sitemap klik submit sitemap.

Sign in dengan account yahoo kita. Kemudian klik Submit Site Feed.

An XML sitemap is a feed to the search engine of where all the pages on your website reside. It includes information like, the address of your webpages, the date the pages were changed, and the importance of the pages related to other pages on your site. An XML sitemap is the best way for Google to index and crawl your site deeply. Every website owner that is committed to search engine optimization should have an XML sitemap on their website.

You can read more about XML sitemap protocol here – http://sitemap.org

If you’d like to have a sitemap generated for you, you can go here.

My recommendation would be to have your website on a content management system. Make sure that your content management system includes the ability to generate and XML sitemap for you. If the content management system cannot generate a sitemap, I would be suspicious about the system’s capability of producing a search engine friendly website.

It is becoming a well known fact that having a sitemap on your website is a good thing. Search engin

It is becoming a well known fact that having a sitemap on your website is a good thing. Search engines like it because it helps add relevancy to a site. But mostly because crawlers can get lots of extra data making the engines aware of all your URLS, how often the pages are updated, and the pages importance in comparison to the other pages on your site. So this leads me to my next question:

Which sitemap format is better? XML or HTML?

I looked to the fabulous Official Google Webmaster’s Blog for the answer: XML

XML is more search engine friendly where as HTML is more people friendly. Crawlers are hungry for data, and XML gives more comprehensive URL and meta data (when it was last updated, how often changes are made, and how important it is relative to other URLs on your site). Google suggests having both HTML and XML sitemaps is good and you can have more than one format type and submit them without a penalty. There are various other formats available however be aware when submitting site maps to Google, a HTML site map is not a recognized format and will return an error message.

A Common Miss-conception:

Sitemaps do not increase the rankings of your pages.

Google advocates it can help get more of your site crawled by making the engine aware of all your URLS and helps Google prioritize the URLs on your site. Doing so “can lead to increased presence and visibility of your site” in Google’s index.

So the circular reasoning about sitemaps is that while having one doesn’t guarantee higher rankings; it may help search visibility …which can lead to greater search presence and hopefully more traffic …that presence and traffic is considered to mean you have relevant content and obviously a trusted authority on the subject…and thus a higher page rank could be decreed. I said “could” because how exactly Google ranks a page is highly confidential plus the page rank algorithms are constantly adjusted. We do know for certain the best practices to achieve optimum page ranking as advised by the master Google. And it’s best to follow those guidelines to give your page the best odds possible.

more on page rank to come.

We recently discussed the 15 Key Elements All Top Web Sites Should Have. This post focused on elements relating to design, content and development. This time, we’ll move onto the important issue of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

SEO is such a hot topic these days. How do you get your web site within the first page or two of the search engines? How do you increase your Google page rank?

There are companies who dedicate themselves full time to doing SEO at a pretty penny. Something a lot of people can’t necessarily afford to pay for or spend the time on.

However, there are some simple things you can do when building your site that will help increase your chances of having good results. In no particular order, below are 10 of these items…

1. Title Tag

Near the very top of a web site’s source code you’ll find various meta tags — the standard ones being the Title, Description and Keyword tags. The title tag is technically not a meta tag, though it is commonly associated with them. The title tag plays such a large role in the indexing of your web site, that it is considered the most important of the three.

A page title is the first thing a search engine will look at when determining just what the particular page is about. It is also the first thing potential visitors will see when looking at your search engine listing.

It’s important to include a keyword or two in the title tag — but don’t go overboard – you don’t want to do what’s known as “keyword stuffing” which does nothing but make your web site look like spam. Most people will include either the company name, or title of the particular page here, as well.

2. Meta Tags

There are two primary meta tags in terms of SEO — the description and the keyword tag. It’s debatable whether the search engines use the description tag as far as ranking your results. However it is one of the more important tags because it is listed in your search result — it is what users read when your link comes up and what makes them decide whether or not to click on your link.

Be sure to include a few relevant keywords in this tag, but don’t stuff it with keywords either. The description tag should read like a sentence — not a keyword list.

Due to “keyword stuffing” many search engines now completely disregard the keyword tag. It is no longer nearly as important as it was years ago, however it doesn’t hurt to include them in your source code.

When creating your keyword list, you’ll want to think of the specific terms people will type in when searching for a site like yours. Just don’t go overboard — too many duplicates are not a good thing (as in “web designer” “web designers” “custom web designer” “html web designer” “your state here web designer” – you get the idea). Those are all basically the same, so pick one or two variations at the most and move onto the next keyword.

3. Proper Use of Heading Tags

This is a very important element to consider when writing out your site copy. Use of heading tags helps users, web browsers and search engines alike know where the major key points of your copy are.

Your main page title should use the <h1> tag — this shows what your page is about. Use of additional tags, such as <h2> and <h3> are equally important by helping to break down your copy. For one, you’ll see a visual break in the text. But as far as the search engines are concerned, it will automatically know what your topics are on a page. The various heading tags give a priority to the content and help index your site properly.

4. Alt Attributes on Images

Putting alt attributes on your images actually serves two purposes. In terms of SEO, putting a brief yet descriptive alt attribute along with your image, places additional relevant text to your source code that the search engines can see when indexing your site. The more relevant text on your page the better chance you have of achieving higher search engine rankings.

In addition, including image alt attributes help the visually impaired who access web sites using a screen reader. They can’t see the image, but with a descriptive alt attribute, they will be able to know what your image is.

5. Title Attributes on Links

Including title attributes on links is another important step that any good web site will have. That’s the little “tool tip” that pops up when you place your mouse over a link. These are especially important for image links, but equally useful for text links.

As a note, you should use descriptive text for your links. “Click here” doesn’t really tell a person – or more importantly, the search engines — what the link is. At the very least put a title tag that will explain that “Click Here” really means “Web Design Portfolio” for example. Better yet – make the main link text something like “View my web design portfolio” — this will give some value to the link showing that the resulting page is relevant to searches for portfolio’s.

6. XML Sitemap

My last post referenced the sitemaps used by web visitors to help them navigate through your site themselves. However, there’s another version — XML sitemaps — that are used by the search engines in order to index through your site, as well.

This list of ALL pages / posts / etc. of your site also includes information such as the date the page was last modified, as well as a priority number of what you feel the most important pages of your sites are. All elements that help the search engines properly find and link to all content of your site.

7. Relevant Content

Having content relevant to your main page or site topic is perhaps the most important SEO aspect of a page. You can put all the keywords you want in the meta tags and alt image tags, etc — but if the actual readable text on the page is not relevant to the target keywords, it ends up basically being a futile attempt.

While it is important to include as many keywords in your page copy as possible, it is equally as important for it to read well and make sense. I’m sure we’ve all seen keyword stuffed pages written by SEO companies that honestly don’t make much sense from the reader’s point of view.

When creating your site copy, just write naturally, explaining whatever information you’re discussing. The key is to make it relevant, and to have it make sense to the reader. Even if you trick the search engines into thinking your page is great — when a potential customer arrives at the site and can’t make heads or tails of your information and it just feels spammy to them — you can bet they’ll be clicking on the next web site within a matter of seconds.

8. Link Building

We’ve probably all heard of Google Page Rank — it seems to be every web site owner’s dream to have as high a page rank as possible. While the algorithm for determining page rank encompasses many elements, and is constantly changing, one item is the number of links pointing to your web site.

Now, you’ll want to steer clear of link farms and other spammy attempts at getting links to your site. However there are many reputable and niche directory sites that you can use to submit your web site, or specific blog articles to.

With genuine content — especially if you have a blog — you’ll be able to generate links with other web sites and blogs, as well. It’s somewhat of a give and take, in that if you link out to other sites, you’ll find sites linking back to you — and hopefully see your page rank going up, as well!

9. Social Media

Although technically not SEO, Social Media is such a growing factor in getting your web site noticed, that it’s an important element to include in your plan.

Social media ranges from social networks like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn — to social bookmarking sites such as Delicious, Digg, StumbleUpon and many more. There is a lot of relationship building involved, but as you build your own networks and build quality content on your web site or blog, you’ll see traffic to your web site increasing, as well.

As with any relationship, it is a give and take. Don’t just expect to join a site like Twitter for the pure sake of pushing your content. That just won’t fly — your true intentions will stick out like a sore thumb and do nothing but turn people off.

Even if you are on the site purely for networking reasons, the key is to make friends. Help out members of your network if they ask for a “retweet” or Digg, give helpful advice if asked, etc. You’ll see the same in return.

If you write a great post and have built meaningful relationships with peers in your niche, you’ll often find that friends will submit your posts and give you votes on the social bookmarking sites. The more votes you receive, the more likely your post is to be noticed by others and shared around, often resulting in additional link backs from other blogs, etc.

10. A Few SEO Don’ts — Flash and Splash

Along with any list of Do’s come the Don’ts. As far as SEO is concerned, two of these items are splash pages (often consisting of a flash animation) and all flash web sites.

Yes, flash is pretty! Full flash web sites can actually be amazing to look at — their own bit of interactive artwork. But unfortunately the search engines don’t get along well with Flash. Although there is talk of possible advancement in this area, for the most part the search engines cannot read Flash.

All that great content that you wrote for your site will not be seen by the search engines if it’s embedded into a Flash web site. As far as the search engines are concerned, your all flash web site might as well be invisible. And if the search engines can’t see your site content, a good chunk of potential customers will miss out on what you have to offer, too.

Equally as “pointless” are splash pages. Once very popular, the splash page should no longer be an important feature of any site. While splash pages used to serve as an introduction into a web site (often with a flash animation), it is no longer seen as helpful, and often times might actually annoy visitors.

For one — it’s an extra click to get into your content. Worse is when you don’t give a “skip intro” option or set of links into your main site content — because you’re essentially forcing your visitors to sit through the full animation. If you’re lucky, this will only annoy them… if not — they’ll just leave without giving your main web site a shot. And without an html link pointing into your site, the search engines have no way to continue either (unless you made use of a sitemap.xml file — but still…)

A good alternative to both issues is to make use of a flash header. There’s no problem to include a flash animation at the top of your main site, or as a feature within the content area, etc. Because this is an addition to your web site, as opposed to a full separate element.

Our SCSU Spring Comm 402 class just submitted the assignment due April 15: create a 20-25 screen sit

Our SCSU Spring Comm 402 class just submitted the assignment due April 15: create a 20-25 screen site map for our product. Typically site maps are presented as flow charts and executed in an appropriate program like Microsoft Visio. I really love Visio’s “snap-to” connectors – but my heart belongs to Illustrator even though one should use the right tool for the job.

Anyway, I decided to try a different approach – it could work in a pinch and all this took no time at all:

used Dreamweaver to define a new site and added pages, naming & then saving them

used shortcuts to create the new page and shortcuts to save the pages

created a quick text navigation bar on the home page

linked the text items in the nav bar to the main content pages in the files panel using Dreamweaver’s point to link tool

saved the text navigation bar as a library item

dragged the navigation bar back to the main content pages and did a quick save so all the linking was already done

repeated this process to create additional pages/navigation bar for secondary content

used Dreamweaver’s site map view, expanded it, and took a screen shot

cropped, upsampled it and sharpened the map in Photoshop

Viola! A very down and dirty site map but if you know me, ahyper obsessed visual thinker. I then decided to redo the Map in Illustrator because I am simply just not a Microsoft fan unless really cornered. Granted my Illustrator joins were not perfectly mitered! The Dreamweaver site map could definitely serve as a strategic document/web site deliverable with a tad of doctoring.

However, site maps are used for more than planning and efficient repurposing/redesigning. I just received my monthly newsletter from internet marketing guru, Bruce Clay. I already knew that when the Google bot first comes to your server, it eagerly searches for the site map and uses the file as a guide to spider all the pages in your site. Bruce uses Google’s site map as a good usability example. Google is perfection in my book. Bruce provides a link to Google’s webmaster guidelines.

Putting information architecture & usability issues aside for the moment, the site map serves as a list of everything the spider needs to digest and index. Appropriate naming conventions are critical for this reason. Then, if your page titles, meta keywords, headers, and content support and inform the page naming, you are on your way to achieving a page one organic position and this is crucial for the internet marketer.

Bruce’s article gets a bit tricky and granular at this point. He competently draws the distinction between site maps and xml sitemaps. Bruce explains that Sitemaps are lists of links in XML, files read by Spiders and traditional html Site Maps could easily be used by humans to navigate a site.

I have found that many people are a bit confused about the difference between site maps and xml sitemaps. Recently, an internet marketing sales manager asked me to discuss/present the differences to his team who probably thought that anyone who found all this interesting and exciting was a bit __________. (fill in the blank)

The really cool/interesting thing is that the site maps and sitemaps (below) are literally opposite sides of the same valuable coin.

XML sitemap code snippet

© By Scott Van Achte (c) 2009

It’s no secret that a continually updated website with new content being added regularly stands a good chance of doing well in Google. One of the long standing methods to regularly expand a site’s content is through the use of a blog.

While there are numerous platforms to choose from for managing a blog, few can compare with the immense flexibility offered with WordPress, and at a cost of free, the price can’t be beat either.

Google likes fresh new content, and setting up a blog on your site, assuming it is updated often with interesting and relevant material, can be one of the best things you can do to help out your search rankings. The beauty behind WordPress is that there is a wide array of totally free plug-ins you can easily install that will make your blog totally search engine friendly.

The following are some basic guidelines and essential plug-ins you should consider when you install your WordPress blog.

Template Design

The first configuration you need to do is work on customizing the design template to match your existing site. I suggest finding a template that matches as closely as possible to the look you are going for then work on tweaking its graphics, colors, and other particulars till you achieve the desired appearance.

Most of your changes will occur in the header.php, footer.php, index.php, and page.php files in the theme editor, however, the theme you install will dictate which files actually need to be updated. You will also need to make some adjustments to your CSS file. These changes all involve working with code and graphics, and are most likely left to a professional.

Once you have your design set up, the rest of the customization is considerably less technical. The following are suggestions that most people can do themselves and you probably will not need an expert to help you here.

Settings

Permalinks
The next thing you need to do is customize your URL’s. You do not want the default post URLs ("pageid=#") as they are simply not search friendly and you want your default names to have some meaning to them. While you can customize your URL’s with various plug-ins, you may not always think to do this, so be sure to have a default you can live with.

Under the settings tab in your dashboard, click on permalinks. Here I suggest choosing one of the settings that includes the post name. Including the month and year is totally optional as it will have little to no impact on your search rankings, but you definitely do want to include the post name.

WWW or no WWW
With WordPress, there is no need to worry about the www vs no www redirects. It is handled for you, but you do need to select which variation you want, and it’s very simple to do. Under "General Settings" you will see two fields; one for "WordPress address" and the other, "Blog address". Ensure that both these fields include the "www" (or not), whichever you prefer, and that’s it. (I always recommend using the "www" version of your URL as most people linking into your site will use it, and this will help keep a consistency among your site.

Required Plug-ins

There is an almost endless supply of free plug-ins out there that you can add to your site ranging from photo galleries and spam protection, to social media integrators for Twitter, Facebook, Digg, and others. While many of these others will benefit your blog and search rankings, the XML Sitemap, and SEO plug-ins are truly essential.

SEO Plug-in
When setting up your new installation, the first plug-in you need to install is one that will allow for totally customized title, meta description tags, and page URL’s. There are a number of tools that do this ranging from the widely popular "All in One SEO Pack" to a relative newcomer "HeadSpace2".

While I personally have yet to try HeadSpace2, it is high on my list, as it has been recommended by many industry professionals as the best WordPress SEO plug-in. For any new blog installation I highly recommend this plug-in be installed right away.

XML Sitemap Plug-in
To the best of my knowledge, HeadSpace2 does not have an XML sitemap option, and as such I highly recommend "Google XML Sitemaps" . This plug-in will automatically generate XML sitemaps for you on the fly and submit it to Google every time you add, delete, or update a page or post. This helps ensure that Google has the latest information at all times. It’s a very simple plug-in to install and configure and once setup, you can forget about it and it will do the job for you.

A well optimized site loaded with relevant content can do very well in Google if setup correctly. The power of WordPress can make this process incredibly easy so all you have to worry about is writing those great articles and selling your customers. The plug-ins and functionality of WordPress are endless and when installed correctly can make the optimization of your blog considerably easier, increasing your chances for top rankings.
