Estos trailers ya tienen unos días de haber salido, sin embargo de antemano sabía que Friki no Fansub siempre fansubea los trailer sobre Tsubasa y xxxHolic al castellano, entonces decidí esperar un poco para colocarlos.

Como dicen nuestros amigo de FnF en su web esta OVA es acerca del país de Japón, por lo que hay que ponerse al día con el manga ya que se saltan varios sucesos de importancia, yo les recomiendo por lo menos leerse todo lo que la país de Tokyo respecta hasta llegar a la parte del país de Japón, por su puesto hacer esto sólo si ya han visto las dos temporadas de Tusabasa Chrnicles y las OVAs de Tokyo Revelations.

xxxHolic Shunmuki

xxxHolic es un manga que en el que se nos cuenta una historia paralela y ligada a la de Tsubasa Chrnicles esto lo digo quienes viven en el mundo de slowpoke.jpg, es por esa razón que pongo los dos trailer juntos.

Argumento: “El protagonista de la serie es Kimihiro Watanuki, un estudiante de instituto que está constantemente asediado por monstruos, fantasmas y espíritus que se sienten atraídos mágicamente hacia él. Estos monstruos son invisibles para las personas sin poderes, por lo que los demás lo tachan de extraño o loco cuando es asediado por los espíritus. Todo cambia cuando entra en una tienda en la que venden deseos. La tienda pertenece a la atractiva Yūko Ichihara,una poderosa bruja del Japón actual. Ofrece a Watanuki la posibilidad de que deje de ver los fantasmas y criaturas si paga un precio de igual valor que la energía que ella requiere para realizar dicha labor. Watanuki al vivir solo, pues sus padres murieron en un accidente muchos años atrás, no tiene dinero,pero Yuko le ofrece encargarse de las labores domésticas de la tienda así como del ocasional trabajo extra, hasta haber trabajado lo suficiente para concederle su deseo. ”

About two years ago I watched the first episode of xxxHolic, but I found it annoying how they had drawn the main character Watanuki so I never watched any more than the first episode.

A while back however, I decided to give the anime a second go since so many had spoken well about that anime and I found it very good after watching a few episodes and watched through the whole series in a week or two. Then I downloaded the recently finished xxxHolic:kei and I really found that series very good too, but when it ended there was no more series to watch so I was left there, sad that there wasn’t any more episodes of that anime.

xxHolic was a very good series, with love, sadness, comedy and everyday life and not to mention spirits! It’s based on our world’s japan but has mixed that with the existence of spirits and a witch, Yuko, who runs a shop that grants people’s wishes. The main character Watanuki comes into that shop and gets his wish granted, only to have to work in the shop as payment. The whole story circles around him working there and we get to see some very interesting things, and sad facts.

xxxHolic: Kei continues where xxxHolic ended and we get to learn more about his friends. This season is more serious and has more of ’sadness’ than the first season but still is as good, maybe even better, than the first season.

I really hope that there will be more seasons coming in the future!

S.A. ~SPECIAL A~ pågående

Oh man, kan någon bara slakta Hikari? ONEGAI?! Du trodde kanske att det var omöjligt att komma undan med en så irriterande kvinnlig huvudkaraktär i en serie där den kvinnliga huvudkaraktären avgör hela seriens värde. Du trodde tydligen fel. Lägg då till i ekvationen att hennes primära kärleksintresse är gubbful och tråkig och du har receptet på FAIL.

VAMPIRE KNIGHT

Shoujoserier får allt för ofta en orättvist snål budget. Mangan är överlägsen och omåttligt populär. Halva underhållningen består av att följa fansens livliga debatt om Kaname vs. Zero. Men att animeversionen inte var mycket att hurra för rent visuellt tror jag dock alla är beredda att skriva under på. Så varför såg jag den ändå? Ptja, anledningen stavas vampyrbishies. Och dramatik. Spänning. Bra karaktärer. Vi får heller inte glömma att vi har en andra säsong att se fram emot i oktober. Än är inte sista ordet sagt!

xxxHOLiC KEI

Det är klart att det var bra, xxxHolic är alltid bra. Problemet är bara att de aldrig riktigt lyckades komma förbi “veckans mysterie”-rutinen. Jag struntar faktiskt i att de så plikttroget följde mangan (eller hur var det nu egentligen…), för faktum är att det blir tråkigt utan cliffhangers som sträcker sig över ett flertal avsnitt. Men utöver det, instaWIN. Speciellt drömelefanten.

NABARI NO OU pågående

Du vet att du hypar någonting när du har 30mb fanart av en serie på din dator innan du ens hunnit börja läsa mangan. JC Staff har lyckats med konststycket att göra en serie om “ninjor i nutid” utan att få oss att slänga handflatan i ansiktet. Esteten inom mig föll dessutom pladask för de lummiga akvarellbakgrunderna. Synd bara att varannan scen ser så kackig ut. Oh well, man kan inte få allt här i världen.

SOUL EATER pågående

Den stora mainstreamhiten för denna säsong. Det är påkostat, roligt och actionfyllt. Och jag förvånas fortfarande över hur snygg animen är med tanke på att mangaförlagan är så ful. Jag som tyckte att blandningen av Gorillaz och D.Gray-man lät som en rätt kass idé glädjer mig nu åt att de planerat minst 50 avsnitt, då allt tyder på att det kommer hålla hela vägen! Lever upp till hypen.

KURENAI

Vid första anblicken såg det ut som ännu en serie i kölvattnet av Japans nationella lolikomplex. Men det omdömet kunde inte vara mer off. För skrapar du lite på ytan finner du en riktig guldklimp med mångfascetterade karaktärer och organiskt vacker animation. En oförutsägbar story om människor, lojalitet och vänskap. Gripande, originellt och fruktansvärt bra.

CODE GEASS R2 pågående

Blandningen av vansinnig politisk strategi och förbannat trams kan inte bli mer underhållande än såhär. Den svinhöga budgeten ger oss välanimerade fighter, och en förväntansfull japansk fanbase + fabulös karaktärsdesign av CLAMP ger oss möjlighet att fortsätta spekulera in i det sista. Handlingen har nu tjocknat till den grad att den stagnerat, och alla har dött och återuppstått flera gånger om i ett stort moln av förvirring. Istället för att ifrågasätta logiken väljer jag att lydigt luta mig tillbaka och åka med fanservicetåget in i ploth4xland. Hatkärlek var ordet.

TOSHOKAN SENSOU

Oh, det var bra. Riktigt bra. Vuxet och väldigt Production I.G.-ish. Med andra ord ett långt bästföredatum och hjärtvärmande karaktärer. En serie som folk kommer kunna se om fem år utan att baxna av fula frisyrer eller lat animation. Sällan har jag fått så stark lust att shippa karaktärer till höger och vänster. Och jag sympatiserade till tusen med Iku. YOU GO GRRL!

ZETTAI KARESHI

Night smälter ihop och “dör”. Riiko drar till Paris med Soushi. TRUE END..? Hade det inte istället varit så mycket mer typiskt Japan om Riiko hade valt att leva lyckligt med roboten i alla sina dagar? Många hatade live-actionversionen för att den vanhelgade mangan, men den imponerade inte heller som fristående såpa. Produktionskvaliteten var oklandervärd, men hela spektaklet kändes ändå medelmåttligt. Hade det inte varit för ögongodiset hade jag nog aldrig sett den.

REAL DRIVE pågående

SERIOUS BUSINESS. Jag fattar typ ingenting. Tappra, rundlagda damer och långsökt sci-fi-handling utan riktlinjer. Jag kan inte förneka att det är djupt och välgjort, jag kan bara konstatera att jag inte är road.

MACROSS FRONTIER pågående

Inga trumvirvlar eller bombastiska fanfarer i världen kan beskriva min kärlek för detta underverk till mechaserie. Så bra. Så vackert. Så macross och ändå inte. Som den konservativa oldfag jag är var jag skeptisk inför ännu en “modernisering” av macrossformulan, men jag har inget att gnälla över. Fantastiskt animerade fighter. Ljuvlig musik. Spektakulärt.

Det är artsy fartsy och fullt med flummig symbolik. Jag älskade den. Försökte förstå den. Försökte skriva långa artiklar och blogginlägg om den, med SAOL vid min sida. Till slut kom jag fram till att den avnjöts bättre utan att ständigt behöva förklaras.

HIMITSU ~TOP SECRET~ pågående

Vänta nu, är året 1996? Nehe? Men vad i fridens namn är då dealen med karaktärsdesignen? En i övrigt dräglig serie, till och med riktigt medryckande på sina ställen. Jag gillar androgynitet och överraskningar, och tyckte därför att det var spännande när huvudpersonen visade sig vara en man. Men det var första avsnittet. Sedan dess har den inte letat sig ur den tjocka dimman av ZZZzzzzzzzzz.

NIJUU MENSOU NO MUSUME pågående

Gick från joker till sömnpiller till AWESOME!! på ungefär fem avsnitt. Lugnt säsongens mest underskattade serie. Frågan är bara om den kommer hålla hela vägen? Verkar ha tappat takten igen över de senaste veckorna. I vilket fall som helst ett historiskt intressant porträtt av Japan under showa-perioden, med fascinerande karaktärer. Aya Hirano är dessutom gudinnan bland alla unga röstskådespelerskor and you know it.

BUS GAMER

Jag är inget stort fan av Minekuras stil men jag hade faktiskt högre förväntningar än såhär. Låg budget kan vara en förklaring. Lathet en annan. Bleh.

JUNJOU ROMANTICA

Åh, mitt mest svårförklarade val den här säsongen. Jag ser ner på överviktiga yaoifangirls, och har aldrig helt begripit den erotiska poängen med BL. Jag ogillar till och med teckningsstilen i mangan. Men ack, det här var tamejfan det sötaste jag sett evah! Synd bara att de flesta vände i dörren när de hörde att bögfaktorn var hög. En lättsmält och fluffig kärlekshistoria för alla, förutsatt att du inte är en stackars homofob. (Mer buttsecks åt dig! <3)

Dom jag ignorerade:

Itzura na Kiss, Chi’s Sweet Home, Allison to Lillia, To Love-Ru, Tower of Bleh ~the Aegis of URK~, Kanokon, Amatsuki, Blassreiter, Zettai Karen Children, Monochrome Factor, Kamen no Maid Guy, Crystal Blaze, Wagaya no Oinari-sama, D.C. II, Candy Boy, Neo Angelique Abyss, Golgo 13 lol

Kei literally means sequel, as in “the thing which happens after”. Too bad Clamp failed to acknowledge this little fact. Instead they churn out shovelware revolving about the one thing the prequel already bugged us about: Watanuki’s skill of making bento* and buying sake, XXXholic style.

So what has actually changed? Well for one: Watanuki is a complaining bitch. The astute reader, who has seen the prequel, will now say: “So nothing much, eh?” And I would reply: Yep, that’s the whole problem. It’s the same boring shit we’ve seen a thousand times before: Domeki eats Watanukis bento*, bento*-maker gets mad, Himawari appears and Watanuki is ignored in favor of Domeki, the loner throws a fit, yadda yadda yadda, put in a ghost at the end and you’ve got a new episode of XXXholic Kei.

I would have thought that, after 10 episodes or so of Watanuki bitching about Domeki eating his bento* or about his mistress wanting more sake and/or more bento*/dinner/breakfast/brunch/snack/appetizer/sake/bento*, either Watanuki or his friends would finally come to their senses, and do something different for a change, alas, it was not to be. Perhaps all the sake and bentos* in the studio have made the writers themselves lazy. Like a fat whale in a wheelchair they laboriously try to make up for bad writing by splashing around wildly, putting an action sequence here and there, but ultimately fail to excite the masses with anything except drenched clothes. I hope the American audience sues….

I’m not some perfectionist who expects a deep plot or lots of character development, but something, anything substantial. Make Watanuki bitch just a little less, and I will be happy. I’m sure some will point out, that this sort of “humor” is the charm of the series. I would reply, no it’s not, it’s torture, and even though this is not illegal in the USA, it still doesn’t make it right. This staple has so many other great qualities, it doesn’t need to rely on this trite, overdone and boring “slapstick” bullshit.

Now that I think about it: I really hope Domeki gets diabetes from eating Watanuki’s bentos*, and Yuko permanent brain damage from her alcohol excesses. I would be laughing my ass off. At least then there would exist a slight resemblance of an original story. Oh, and let Himawari be hit by a truck. No happy endings here, kids, just valuable life lessons.

Bento*.

In all fairness, the series gets slightly better at the end, but the train-wreck that comes before and the lacklustre final episode, in which almost all characters of this series get together to have a big fanservice orgy (sadly this time with pants and furries), seal the deal. Not having read the original manga I can only speculate, but I would say Clamp simply ran out of material to work with, “what little there was in the first place”, a cruel cynic might add.

I did have the strength to sit through to the end, and even though I’ve been incessantly bitching for the last couple of paragraphs, I was still entertained when a sparkle of story shone through the bento*-making, sake-drinking garbage-dump. I just wish I would have gotten more of the glitter. But as it stands, the bento* of fried eggs, weird sushi, and other food I have neither seen before nor can pronounce, makes me only half full. Lets hope for a better third season.

*If you found the use of “bento”* (or sake for that matter) in this post irritating, then don’t watch XXXholic Kei, or you will be driven insane. One has to give credit to the original author though, at least this time it’s a guy forcing his bento*-making skills onto others. Better? No, even more annoying, if that’s even possible. But the lack of panties in this case make it bearable. Barely.

Ack, Himawari-chan, du har varit min hatkaraktär så länge.

Så vad tyckte jag om ditt arc? Sjukt bra! Dels för att jag fick mina farhågor bekräftade, och dels för att du slutade vara tom som en vas.

Sammanfattning: Watanuki råkar ut för en livshotande olycka, och för att rädda hans liv väljer Doumeki och Himawari att ta delar av hans skador. När han vaknar berättar han till slut för Himawari att han ser ett samband mellan hans otur och att han umgåtts med henne.

Hon svarar bara med ett leende och “Har du äntligen fattat det?”. Hon berättar att människor i hennes närhet alltid råkat ut för hemska olyckor, och att hon för med sig otur. Hon tackar honom för alla lunchlådor han gjort för henne, och säger hejdå.

Men Watanuki ber henne att inte lämna honom, trots att hon varnar för risken att han kommer behöva sätta livet till nästa gång. Han säger att han blir lycklig bara av att ha henne som vän. Hon lämnar huset i tårar efter att för första gången ha hört någon säga sig vara lycklig över att ha träffat henne.

Efteråt får han ett ägg av Yuuko som betalning för att ha hämtat vattnet ur brunnen. På natten önskar han i sin dröm att Himawari ska vara lycklig, och på morgonen kläcks en liten fågelunge ur ägget. Han ger fågelungen till Himawari-chan och döper den till Tanpopo. De promenerar iväg tillsammans med Doumeki som vanligt, och avsnittet avslutas med att Yuuko höjer sitt sake-glas mot himmelen och ler.

Intryck: OMG!! Det fanns så många underbara saker med de här avsnitten. Först och främst har vi budskapet om vänskap och lojalitet. Sen har vi fågelungen *ddawww* så söt! Och så blev jag helt varm i hjärtat av Yuukos leende i slutet, eftersom vi sällan fått se henne le i en allvarlig stund förut.

Men den största bedriften var ju helt klart att de lyckades utveckla Himawari till en sympatisk karaktär för mig, istället för den endimensionella fnissande stereotyp hon varit förr. Det enda jag saknade var ett ordentligen tack från Watanuki till Doumeki, men jag antar att det aldrig kommer ske, amirite?

Det här hade verkligen funkat som den perfekta avslutningen på hela serien, men det kommer ett avsnitt till innan kalaset är över!

The first season of xxxHolic left a lasting impression on me, it was one of those shows that you could not put down once you started watching it. But that is to be expected when production companies like: CLAMP, TBS, BMG Japan, MOVIC, Production I.G and Studio Twinkle work on a single Anime series together. Well the second season is entitled xxxHolic Kei, which started on the 4th of April this year. And is currently on its 11th episode. The series will be 13 episodes in length unlike the first season which was 24 episodes.

Usually I would do a first impression on only the first episode of a new series, but xxxHolic Kei threw me a curve ball due to the fact that the first three episodes is a story arch. Which meant I watched all three episodes to get a better feel for the show. As watching only the first episode would have given me an unbalanced first impression of the show.

The first three episodes we see what happens when Dōmeki, receives a grudge by a spider deity for breaking it’s web and destroying it’s home. But Dōmeki did not do this with malicious intent but rather to untangle Watanuki who got stuck in it, due in part to the fact that Watanuki got carried away and did not look where he was going. Due to the fact that Dōmeki was the one who broke the spiders web, his right eye got taken away from him by the spiders grudge.

Watanuki feels guilty for being the one that caused Dōmeki to receive a grudge and loosing his right eye. So Watanuki goes to Yūko’s house to ask her for help and to save Dōmeki’s right eye. But due to the nature of the curse she is unable to help him, so Watanuki proceeds to make a wish in front of Yūko. He is willing to sacrifice is own right eye to save Dōmeki’s. A equal trade of sorts, which Yūko agrees upon. The very next day we see Watanuki walking to school with a eye patch on, and Dōmeki’s right eye fully restored.

Dōmeki discovers what Watanuki did and is really pissed off at Watanuki, because he has no regard for his own life and is willing to throw it away for other people without thinking about the consequences and the people who care for him. Dōmeki meets up with Yūko in a local park and ask her to reverse the wish. But Yūko is unable to help Dōmeki because only people who want something can visit Yūko’s residents, and on entering her house make a wish while trading something of equal value for it.

Dōmeki, with no other options decide to go to his families house. As his grandfather was a great spiritual priest and he might have a book on how to reverse the grudge on Watanuki’s right eye. Watanuki and Dōmeki discovers a hidden book in his grandfathers house, which contains a spell which can reverse the grudge. But soon afterwards the book gets attack by a book spirit which eats the letters of books which carries a lot of importance to someone or something. Yūko shows up just in the nick of time to save Watanuki and Dōmeki from the spirit, but the book with the spell is lost.

On his way back from school the following evening, Watanuki runs across a cat girl from the spirit world who informs him that the spirit world is currently fighting over his right eye as it hold great power for them. He also finds out later from the Karasu-Tenge, that Zashiki a spirit girl (Vestal sprite) who has a crush on Watanuki has been kidnapped by someone.

Watanuki agrees to help Karasu-Tenge save Zashiki ,as they are send to the spirit world by Yūko. Upon arriving in the spirit world, Watanuki discovered that the queen of spiders Jorougumo has captured Zashiki and is the one who has Watanuki’s right eye. Zashiki tries to get Watanuki’s eye back for him but she gets captured in the process.

But with the help of the pipefox (Hell yeah.) Watanuki is able to save Zashiki, but at the cost of his right eye which Jorougumo swallows before she escapes. Watanuki collapses afterwards, only to wake up in a spiritual pool with Zashiki crying over him. And this when Watanuki releases that his life is just not his own, but the people who care for him as well. At the end of episode three we see Yūko giving a piece of Dōmeki’s eye to Watanuki so that Watanuki is able to see again. As he accepts this gift he collapses of exhaustion, and falls asleep on Yūko’s lap.

WOW the second season started off with a pretty big bang right into a three episode arch. I am reminded how much I enjoyed the first season so much, by watching the second season. And the second season delivers. I can highly recommend the second season of xxxHolic to the fans of the first season, and to those who have not watched the series yet. You cant go wrong with this Anime, I cant wait to watch the rest of this series.

So, in my personal opinion, it’s not too often you see something done incredibly better in the anime then the manga. Especially with the low-grade animation of xxxholic kei against xxxholic’s gorgeous art. Yet, it happened.

Episode 11 opens with Watanuki walking home with Himawari. He bids farewell, and notices his pinky hurting something bad. So he goes to Yuko’s makes dinner and serves it to her. He drops one of the dishes though, and it absolutely shatters. Yuko talks to Watanuki, asking him what’s going on with the finger, and he admits that he made a pinky promise with Himawari. Leads further into the conversation, Yuko reminds him for the 100th time, that Himawari is a bad omen. I think we got that. I guess Watanuki just hasn’t.

He will soon, in his dream. Domeki’s grandfather appears, asking Watanuki to address him by his first name. Two episodes left in the series, and we finally get his name. That strikes me as off, yes I know how it went in the manga, but it still seemed off.  His name’s Haruka, if anyone’s interested. They talk, and Haruka reveals what’s going on with Himawari.

DUN DUN DUN!

Haruka tells Watanuki that now he knows, there’s no going back for him. And to make sure to visit Domeki in the morning. Watanuki then wakes up.

On the way to school, who does Watanuki see, but ‘my favorite’ loli ever? Kohane conviently encounters him, and tells him thanks for everything. He offers for them to go off alone, but alas, this time for Watanuki

THE KIDNAP ATTEMPT FAILS. HE’S NO LONGER ACE KIDNAPPER!

Okay, enough kidding around. It’s a pretty serious scene, as while it’s never spoken outright, Kohane is bidding farewell to Watanuki. It’s evident she’s no longer so incredibly relient on his company as she was earlier, and probably doesn’t intend to see him again. And this is true in the anime, I think.

As a parting gift, Watanuki gives Kohane cream puffs.

So Watanuki meets Domeki, and talks about the dream. Watanuki raises an interesting question of why does Domeki’s grandfather keep appearing in dreams? Sadly, this isn’t properly answered, just Domeki blathering about his grandfather had premonitions. What does that have to do with anything?

So Watankui finally gets to school, and meets Himawari. He notices an odd aura around her, but they keep walking, at some point Himawari taps him on the shoulder. There’s some creepy build-up, I mean creepy. That shoulder touches a window, and a pane falls out, leading to…

Okay, I know this is suppose to be a serious scene…but I giggled when I saw this. You kinda have to see the animation to understand, but who falls out of a window that way? No normal person! Maybe long skinny xxxholic people just do.

But the amusement fades, as Himawari looks down, and the next scene is shattered glass and blood. And the air is filled with the most horrified scream.

The next part I didn’t understand to well, Watanuki is inbetween the world of life and death, having reverted to a younger self. He runs to his parents, only to be saved by Haruka, who says it’s fortunate he looks like Domeki so he could save him, since Domeki couldn’t have. What?

Watanuki wakes up, finding himself alive. Yuko tells him what’s going on, and assures him that the price to save his life has already been payed.

Himawari is in the shop(put one and two together why she’s there), and stands by Watanuki’s bedside. And then is when she trumps her glory in the manga. There’s no question about it, it was a great scene in the manga. But it’s her voice. Her stone cold voice. This isn’t adorable Himawari anymore, this is dead serious.

It’s amazing.

They talk, and Watanuki decides to inform Himawari that she seems to cause bad things to happen around her, and he’s sorry to tell her. But Himawari isn’t a bit surprised.

The episode ends there.

All I have to say, is this has got to be one of the best directed episodes of xxxholic kei. It’s hard to put into worlds, but the way they appeal to emotions–excellent catharis going on there.

I can’t wait for the next one.
