We are inching closer to 2010 and it’s a matter of time before we bid farewell to 2009.

This week in particular has been exceptionally hectic for me. From the numerous interviews I have been shortlisted to, to the irregular work hours I have put in at WOW, to the constant applications I have been filling up for a full-time job position to fill up my weekdays, to the outings with the favorite friends, to the errands that I have to run for everyone in the household and so much more.

I guess you may wonder if I do miss my good ol’ days when I was bumming around at home and waking up only at noon and sleeping at some ungodly hour, wouldn’t you? However, I have to say that throughout the entire time I was off the job and study market, I never really found the right time and space to actually just sit down and breathe and take it a day at a time. As far as I can remember, despite being jobless and no longer a student till the distant future, I have not set aside the quality time to spend and reflect on myself and what has happened throughout this entire year.

I have been going on and on everyday, definitely doing something every single hour. Whether it is to change the bedsheets or to go for an interview or to meet a friend for lunch etc, I have done them all. What I have ceased to do thus far is to slack. Yes, perhaps everyone has the notion that if you are not working nor studying, you are merely bumming around, watching reruns of Friends or The Nanny to no end. But really, I think I am here to debunk that stereotype. Not everyone spends their non-working and non-studying days bumming around and I for once, am one of them.

I feel immensely blessed to be granted this block of time to recharge my tired soul and rejuvenate my senses and appreciate everything that has come my way this year. I also am proud to say that the year 2009 has brought me spiritually closer to God and emotionally attached to my family and beloved friends. 2009 also brought along a handful of people whom I don’t wish to meet again whether in this lifetime or the next but I am grateful regardless as they have taught me a lesson or two in life.

If there’s anything I can take away from 2009, it has to be that the year 2009 has made me become significantly more matured and level-headed like never before. I guess it is true, when you turn 21, the maturity comes along as God’s birthday gift to you. I am thankful I got this priceless gift as without it, I will prolly succumb to the easy way out in everything like back then in 2002. I don’t deny it, I have changed just like everyone else. But I hope this change within me will bring about a level of happiness, warmth and sunshine to the people around me. Never did it cross my mind that I will be so open and friendly to anyone that I can strike up conversations with mere strangers or even hug my best friend on the train platform.

2009 isn’t the year for love; I know I gave up on my first love in 2008 and I am still mending my broken heart and learning from my past mistakes. Hence I have made it clear that I don’t want to be seriously dating anyone as the time I have in my hands now is too precious to be wasted fighting with a significant other. Now that I am 21, let me be free. I know when the time is right for the love to be requited, it will be. I am a firm believer of kismet; better known as fate. Also, if it is meant to be, it will always be regardless so always believe in that statement. After all, we have forever together so what does a few years of singlehood mean right?

2009 is the year I was granted the biggest life lesson I ever had in my entire life; my grandmother’s passing. Looking back, I knew a part of me died and was buried along in the grave when she went away and for a certain period of time, I admit that I lost the zest in me. But after a while, I reached a mutual understanding that I can’t go on like that forever. I have to pick up the pieces and move on with my life as she has gone away and will never ever come back to me. Many things have changed in the house thanks to my stubborn need to move things around to cope with the grief. But nothing, I mean it, nothing has or will be able to replace her presence during the first 21 years of my life. Nothing. That space she took away from my heart will never be replaced. The puzzle will never fit the same way again and I know if I don’t let go, I will prolly drive everyone else including myself to the grave.  I honestly do miss her a lot but I guess the only way I can miss her is to gift a a prayer or two for her daily and pray that He will take good care of her. Which I am very sure He will.

Come to think of it, I think I was a selfish fart to want a degree immediately after my graduation from SHATEC Institutes. I mean, as much as I am the youngest in the family and I am the only girl, I think I shouldn’t have reacted with such haughty arrogance or disappointment when my parents told me that they will not be able to fund for my degree whether abroad or locally. It took me a long, long time to understand the whole situation and I am thankful (in a way) that Papa was diagnosed with cancer before I applied for a university. Can you imagine if I had applied for my university and Papa got his diagnosis after that? Things will definitely be much harder on us then. I’m thankful I opted to listen to my parents and wait the years before my savings will accumulate to a degree.

I know it will take me quite a while before that happens and the only thing I can wish for is that some filthy rich heir to a petroleum empire or a wealthy prince is reading my sympathy-laced post today and that he will propose to marry me and guarantee that I will never have to worry about finances ever again.

Okaye, just kidding

Back to the story here, 2009 has been a whirlwind roller-coaster ride for me and it’s definitely one hell of a ride worth riding and living for. Here’s to the end of 2009 and the wonderful beginning, middle and ending to 2010 and beyond!

Alguna vez han querido vivir en una película de Sofía Coppola, hablar francés, ser refinado y fanático de la haute couture? Pues si es así, esta debería ser la banda sonora de su vida.

A pesar de tener un nombre y una portada dignos de una banda punk con un cantante que escupe a sus fans en los conciertos (por eso bajé el disco en primer lugar), la propuesta de The xx me sorprendió por su sofisticado sonido dreamy, pop y atmosférico, todo en un empaque exquisitamente bien hecho.

Grabado en un pequeño garage en los estudios XL, este grupo de chic@s (ninguno llega a los 25 años) del sur de Londres han logrado un disco sumamente catchy a pesar de tener unas bases rítimicas leeeeentas, que ocasiones incluso recuerdan a The Cure. Pero además de su instrumentación, son los arreglos R&B de las voces de Oliver Sim and Romy Madley Croft, los que le imprimen una personalidad distinta a la banda.

Sin una nota de más o algún ritmo que suene rarófilo, este podría ser el debut del año, a pesar de que  todas las canciones suenan muy parecidas entre sí. Ahora si me permiten voy preparar una cena fancy mientras bailo un poco de manera minimalista pop.

I love to talk and like what some people say, I can be easily read like an open book. But it takes a whole lot of silence and major huge listening ears to actually read and get to know me on a deeper level than the average person.

Pernahkah anda merasakan gimana ga enaknya menjadi satu-satunya wanita diantara puluhan kaum adam?

Kalo di kantor memang jumlah wanitanya sangat sedikit dibanding jumlah prianya, kira2 perbandingannya 1:10, walaupun begitu aku sudah terbiasa karena selalu mendapat rekan kerja yang masih sopan dan menghargai keberaadaan saya, lagian walau di ruangan menjadi wanita sendiri diruangan sebelah masih ada wanita lainnya, jadi tetep ga merasa sendirian.

Aku baru merasakan tidak enaknya berada di lingkungan para pria sekitar beberapa bulan yang lalu. Saat itu unitku menjadi panitia diklat (pendidikan dan pelatihan) pertambangan migas yang diadakan di sebuah hotel di Jakarta. Semua peserta yang berjumlah 40′an orang itu adalah pria, sedangkan dari panitia hanya saya sendiri yang wanita. Pokoknya benar2 sendiri.

Walaupun sedikit  canggung pada awalnya, aku tidak terganggu, karena sebagian besar pesertanya sudah ku kenal, dan sebagian lagi yang tak dikenalpun benar2 baik dan sopan (awas ajah kalo mo macem2 ma panitia).

Ternyata situasi nyaman tersebut tidak selamanya, beberapa pembicara diklat  suka membicarakan topik yang menyerempet ke arah..ah tau sendiri lah.

Nah sebenarnya aku masih bisa pura2 ga dengar dan memasang wajah tanpa ekspressi. Tapi tiba2 si pembicara nyeletuk,

Ga ada ibu2 kan disini?

Hwaaa..kontan saja semua mata pria2 diruangan tertutup itu tertuju ke arahku. Kebayang ga sih gimana perasaanku. Saat itu rasanya wajahku sudah ga berbentuk lagi.

Setelah insiden itu aku berharap tidak mengalami situasi yang ga mengenakkan lagi.

Namun ternyata cobaan hidup sebagai wanita harus dijalanani lagi. Seorang pembicara lain malah lebih vulgar mengilustrasikan proses pertambangan dengan hubungan ********.

Merah ijo lagi deh wajahku, pengen segera keluar dari ruangan tapi takutnya malah jadi perhatian. Akupun berfikir cepat agar semua pandangan tidak tertuju kepadaku lagi. Pura2 sibuk ngurusin materi, nanya yang ga penting ke sesama panitia.

Pokoknya ga enak banget terintimidasi kaya gitu.

Pesan moral dari tulisan ini: Hargailah wanita dengan bicara sopan. That’s it.

#13.  Coldplay- X&Y (2005): 2002’s “A Rush of Blood to the Head,” set what many perceived to be the high water mark for this English band.  Making a shift from some of the cutesy themes (see Yellow) of their breakout album “Parachutes,” the gents opted to follow a more serious tone.  But the band wasn’t done.  With X&Y the message is go big or go home.  X&Y is Coldplay’s magnum opus, in part because it evokes some of the bigger moments of bands like U2 and Radiohead, with whom they are often compared.  Tracks like “Square One,” and “Low” recall some of U2s more epic songs, while evoking the guitar-oriented sound of “The Bends” era Radiohead.  No doubt X&Y is Coldplay’s most concise album.  Some of the bigger moments on the album fit perfectly alongside more subdued tracks like “Swallowed by the Sea” and “Twisted Logic.” The irony of X&Y is that it’s biggest hit- “Speed of Sound” – or Clocks Part II – is no less its least ambitious.

Personally, it took me a while to get into this album, which makes it a curious choice for my list.  Nevertheless, most of the albums that I find myself enjoying the most are the ones that took the longest to sink in.

Faves: Square One, Low, The Hardest Part, Swallowed by the Sea

avete mai pensato al perché ci piace qualcosa? perché mi piace leggere, una cosa piuttosto che un’altra, perché ci piace il cioccolato fondente e destestiamo quello bianco. perché ci piace una canzone piuttosto che un’altra…un insieme di ragioni, spesso e volentieri inspiegabili. la fille de poche è soggetta – come già sapete all’innamoramento facile e repentino – a queste passioni inspiegabili e non. come le gallette di mais, che adoro solo per il loro retrogusto di pop corn, beh certe cose sono spiegate. lessi tanto tanto tanto tempo fa su quella che era una rivista scientifica un articolo che mi aprì la mente. mi fece scoprire il darwinismo applicato all’attrazione, es decir che ogni donna pensa al proprio futuro quando è attratta da un uomo, quindi io che sono talmente piccola da entrare in un taschino, sogno un uomo enorme, che possa garantire ai miei figli un futuro roseo: mai più salti sul posto per prendere il bagnoschiuma o i crackers sullo scaffale alto. su quel giornale lessi un’altra cosa che fino all’altro giorno non avevo mai provato, o comunque non avevo mai vissuto una prova così tangibile. secondo uno studio (paragrafo 2.5) dell’etologo kart gramer dell’università di vienna esisteva ancora oggi un collegamento fra attrazione e possibile gravidanza. ma non stiamo parlando di questa conclusione dell’etologo austriaco, bensì dello studio secondo cui le regole dell’attrazione sarebbero collegate a una relazione che lega quello che io chiamo giorgio (per capire il link legato a questo nome maschile vi consiglio caldamente di cliccare su link) e il viso maschile del prescelto. secondo questo studio, dato per scontato che la simmetria del corpo di una persona è un buon indicatore del sistema immunologico, si è osservato che le donne sono attratte da uomini con tratti somatici più mascolini quando sono più fertili, mentre preferiscono visi con caratteri femminili dopo l’ovulazione e durante il ciclo, quando il rischio di concepire è più basso. tutto questo pamphlet medico per dirvi che l’altro giorno vedendo uno stupido film sul torneo più importante di tutto il grande slam di tennis, ho notato una strana passione per paul bettany, il principe dei diafani, l’uomo quasi albino, quando di lui avevo sempre detto…bello con quei golfini di cachemire in a beautiful mind, ma non è il mio genere. mi sembrava una versione umanoide e sexy di copito de nieve….e invece l’altro giorno con giorgio alle porte…pem! mi sono ritrovata lì ad ammirare le sue lentiggini – cosa che adoro a prescindere-, i suoi occhi azzurri, e quei capelli che sono talmente biondi che sembrano quasi platino, ma non platino, quei capelli che sembrano schiariti con il metodo old school dell’acqua ossigenata. ma se usavi il perossido per farlo a casa, altro che tinte che non aggrediscono il cuoio capelluto, ti fottevi i capelli, le radici e anche tutta la cute. la stessa cosa è successa all’algido paul, che per interpretare silas, dove silas non è il titolo di una canzone di elio e le storie tese, ma un numerario folle dell’opus dei, il cui motto è “cercare dio nella vita quotidiana”, e silas lo trova nel cilicio con cui si picchia, o meglio mortifica il proprio corpo, come una nota ciellina italiana e il frate grasso e maniaco del nome della rosa (anche se lui, credo fosse berengario, usava il flagrum), si è bruciato la testolina. comunque, cilicio e ciellini a parte, la fille de poche in quei giorni, proprio quelli del palloncino rosso o in cui fai la ruota, esercizi a corpo libero, routine di nuoto sincronizzato, verticali con una mano sola, il salto con l’asta, il salto mortale – si preoccupano che la pubblicità delle merendine renda obesi, ma lapidare gli uomini che fanno quelle pubblicità, perché sono sicura che ci sia la mente di un cromosoma xy, dietro gli spot degli assorbenti??? in quei giorni, la fille de poche è attratta da uomini diafani, bianchi, biondi alla bettany, ma negli altri, si conforma a un moro con gli occhi verdi, o anche un moro e basta. il bel bettany e un bel moro, come javier bardem - clone del messia – per quegli altri giorni lì…

XY: ¿SE ACABÓ LA ÑOÑEZ DE ONCE TV?

Cambiándole a los canales en la tele como a eso de las 10:30 de la noche (la hora en que ya no tienes nada mejor que hacer) me encontré con algo fuera de lo común al menos para el canal Once; la serie XY.

Esta serie trata sobre la vida cotidiana de un equipo editorial que realiza la revista XY, una revista para hombres. Lo que me llamó la atención sobre esta serie de primera mano, fue que ya había visto los promocionales en los que salía un sujeto llamado Tony, y que viéndolos pensabas que él sería el protagonista, más no es así; otro aspecto fue el uso de lenguaje que podríamos decir del nuevo cine mexicano (es decir: ¡sí guey, no m@mes guey, ching% a su m@dre guey!), algo impensable en un programa del Once, y finalmente la inclusión del nombre de Artemio, pues es un nombre poco común.

Los personajes son por demás interesantes; Tony es el director de ventas, un personaje egocéntrico, superficial, metrosexual, que al parecer solo piensa en tirarse a cuanta chava se le atraviese, sin embargo no tiene éxito con las mujeres. Luis es el experimentado ex director de ventas con una novia mucho más joven que él, enfrentará al fantasma del desempleo tras una discusión con el director editorial Artemio, un hombre conservador con tendencia al alcoholismo y que tiene problemas con su pareja, pues al parecer la chispa entre los dos se acabó.

El elenco restante también aporta a la serie; tenemos a la fotógrafa de la revista, una chava que se las revira a los hombres y los utiliza como diversión de una noche; el proveedor de la revista que cansado de su pareja al parecer le da curiosidad probar el arroz con popote, y alguno que otro personaje más.

La serie es divertida, el lenguaje coloquial está plenamente justificado (la verdad es como hablas en la oficina con tus iguales) y la trama presenta problemas interesantes a los personajes de manera constante.

Una de mis escenas favoritas es cuando Tony se cambia a una oficina amplia y desocupada de la empresa para recibir a los anunciantes. Despacha de manera grosera a la representante de una fundación para niños con labio leporino y el director lo regaña, le exige que se disculpe con la anunciante y lo regresa a su cubículo con los demás empleados. Entonces la secretaria le lleva un refresco y Tony le dice: “¡gracias!”, “¡es para pasarme toda la mierda que me tengo que tragar!”.

Al menos en el Once ya hay más opciones además de ver las ñoñas aventuras de Valentina.

Ah, mi querido Artemio, nunca puedes ganar.

It’s almost 10am on a Friday and I’m listening to The Sea and Cake. It’s very good.

Sean started his drive back from California yesterday. It’s such an awkward time for him to physically enter my life again, I can’t help but think that it’s another facet to this larger scheme of me moving on with my life and refusing to remain a prisoner of old lovers’ ghosts. The timing of his call yesterday was awkward as well–I was elbow-deep in the meal I was preparing for Jason.

How do I tell Sean about Jason without feeling awkward? I mean, I’ve told him about him, but that was before things got to the current level. “Hey ex-fiance, let me tell you about the man who’s everything I wanted you to be!” Ugh, it’s so strange. Like, Groundhog’s Day or deja vu, except I know I’ve been here before. There are slight differences in location and players, but still the same main scenarios and I’m just waiting to see how it all plays out. It’s almost like I’m getting another shot at doing it all over again, but this time I know where I went wrong. Redemption.

Jesica invited me to Sean’s ”Welcome Home Surprise Party” on Facebook. Why are we FB friends? I dislike her for so many reasons and I guess she thinks that we should be friends because we have Sean in common, and everything that comes along with that. I’m so conflicted over the scenario because it’s ridiculously fucked up (although I shouldn’t be bothered because none of it affects me…not directly at least). Ugh, it’s all like a punch in the stomach and a knife in the back. Sometimes I wonder why I trust anyone at all.

Ha. Just as I’m getting lost in disgust, an email from Jason pops up. Thanks for bringing me back.

El actor que interpreta a Tony Hernández en la nueva serie de Canal 11, ‘XY’, platicó con EL SONIDERO para dar a conocer a su personaje y esta nueva propuesta televisiva.

Es grato saber que Canal 11 rediseñó su imagen y con ello trajo la idea de incluir dentro de su programación series hechas en México.

Con la intención de conocer más a fondo sobre esta novedosa e interesante propuesta, platicamos con el actor Eduardo Arroyuelo, quien sin tapujos habló sobre ‘XY’ y sobre Tony Hernández, su personaje en la serie que trata sobre la vida en una revista para hombres.

Para el actor, quien ha hecho telenovelas para Televisa (‘Mi pequeña traviesa’)  y Tv Azteca (‘Todo por amor’, ‘La hija del jardinero’), formar parte de esta nueva cara del Canal 11 es ser parte de una transformación, por lo que asegura: “vamos a tener una televisión actualizada, contemporáneo, acorde a tu pensamiento”.

Precisamente una de las razones por las que dejó de hacer tele y se involucró más en el cine, fue que no había proyectos que le interesaran, “me aburría muchísimo lo que estaba pasando en la tele, por eso me puse a hacer cine, pero el teatro y la tele se quedaron atorados”.

Ahora que es parte de ‘XY’, Eduardo ha notado algunas diferencias con hacer telenovelas y series, entre ellas destaca el hecho de que en lugar de camarógrafos tienen directores de arte, cuentan con guinistas experimentados, buenos actores y gente creativa.

Y casi como lanzando una pedrada a todos aquellos que hacen programas ‘basura’ y que piensan que la gente sólo quiere ver eso, el actor afirma que muchas veces el dinero que se invierte en producir un programa se va al dueño de la televisora, en este caso es diferente porque “se va a invertir en gente que te va a dar un producto que el público merece”.

De hecho Eduardo tuvo que hacer un casting para ser parte de la serie, ya que los productoes querían encontrar actores que pudieran representar bien a los personajes.

Así fue como se quedó con el papel del típico hombre macho que es Tony, aunque no fue fácil para Eduardo, quien dice: “fue muy difícil diseñarlo porque es un personaje muy complejo”.

Además de ello, no tiene ningún parecido con la forma de ser y pensar de su personaje. Pero no todo es malo en Tony, y el mejor rasgo que el actor le encuentra es que siempre dice la verdad, aunque incomode. De hecho una de las frases de Tony es “aquí se venden tetas y nalgas”.

Este tipo de afirmaciones hacen que aumente el interés por saber más sobre Tony, ¿cuál es su estilo de vida? -le pregunto a Eduardo- Él contesta- “Es el metrosexual total, diario amanece con una mujer diferente y sus mejores amigas son las teiboleras”.

En cambio Eduardo tiene un  estilo más informal, alivianado y dudamos que sus mejores amigas sean las teiboleras.

Para terminar la entrevista le lanzo una pregunta clave, ya que es prácticamente el eje sobre el cual gira la serie. ¿En qué consiste ser hombre para Tony?- Eduardo contesta con inmediatez- “En chingárselos a todos y a todas”. Esto es porque todas las mujeres se le antojan y también porque siempre trata de obtener lo que quiere.

En cambio para Eduardo Arroyuelo ser hombre consiste en ver al ser humano como seres integrados, y que tenemos tanto rasgos de los hombres como de las mujeres.

Para aquellos que les interese ver esta nueva propuesta. La serie ‘XY’ se transmite  los miércoles por Canal 11 a las 22:30, y se repite los domingos a las 23:30.
