Per chi non lo conoscesse Y-Browser è un file browser by Dr.Jukka per la gestione dei files su Symbian 3rd e 5th edition. Con questa nuova release viene incrementata la compatibilità per Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, tuttavia, come avverte il produttore stesso, anche se questa versione è abilitata per i dispositivi touch screen S6o, ancora non ne è pienamente ottimizzato il supporto. Il problema principale è l’input scrittura, infatti anche se si possono inserire i testi con le tastiere virtuali nei campi scrittura, l’input non viene eseguito e dunque sono precluse alcune importanti funzioni quali rinominare e cercare files, o creare nuove cartelle. A favore dell’applicazione c’è invece il fatto che è molto comoda da utilizzare anche con le dita, senza dover ricorere per forza al pennino a causa di barre o caratteri troppo piccoli.

Sempre per chi non lo conoscesse, anche Y-browser, come la maggior parte delle applicazioni del genere, che vogliono sostituirsi all’esimio file browser presente di default sui Symbian S60 , permette alcune importanti funzioni come la visualizzazione di tutte le unità (C: D: E: Z), files e cartelle nascosti (ma non quelli bloccati dalle protezioni di sistema), di inviare files, creare cartelle, tagliare, copiare, spostare, rinominare, cancellare files o cartelle, la visualizzazione di proprietà e attributi, comprimere/decomprimere archivi zip, ecc. Today our Symbian doctor, Jukka Silvennoinen, released V0.88.3 of the popular and free file browser, Y-Browser. Unfortunately this release isn’t compatible with Symbian screen readers and the bug which affected the usability of its previous release on S60 handsets still exists. The problem is related to the way Y-Browser creates constant screen refreshes upon opening subfolders, thereby forcing screen readers to widely repeat the window contents. I’ve tested it on Nokia N73, Nokia N81, Nokia N82, Nokia N95, Nokia E61i and Nokia 5700 with the same results.

Si utilizas tu móvil S60 para trabajar con todo tipo de archivos o aprovecharlo como unidad de almacenamiento quizás en alguna una ocasión hayas tenido problemas para encontrar tus documentos guardados.

Y es que el gestor de archivos que viene instalado en nuestros Symbian no es una maravilla, por lo que Y-Browser puede ser una buena ayuda en determinadas ocasiones. La aplicación se instala en el menú principal del móvil, no en la carpeta de Instalaciones, y nos muestra la estructura de carpetas por unidades, como vemos en la imagen superior.

Una vez localizado un archivo con Y-Browser se puede asociar con una aplicación determinada para abrirlo además de otras opciones típicas. La versión actual del programa es la 0.88, es gratis ,freeware como dicen los ingleses y está disponible en varios idiomas, entre ellos el español.

Las unidades C: y E: corresponden a 2 discos flash ,el segundo E: es la tarjeta de memoria y el D: es un disco RAM para ficheros temporales , Z: es una área protegida de la memoria flash donde esta el sistema operativo.

Everyone’s favourite file manager Ybrowser has been updated to version 0.88. This update brings loads of changes, bug fixes and stability improvements specially with regard to the upcoming FP2 devices. Incase you feel that some file support or other type of functionality is missing from the Y-Browser, then you could visit NewLC and start implementing your own plug-ins for Y-Browser.
