Mais um ótimo show que se soma ao positivíssimo saldo deste Ano da França no Brasil. A atração da vez foi a cantora franco-israelita Yael Naim, nome que começou a destacar na gringa após ter uma de suas canções, “New Soul”, como trilha publicitária do MacBook Air (aquele notebook superfino da Apple). A passagem de Yael por São Paulo foi a última escala da turnê de seu auto-intitulado disco, lançado em 2007. Um disco agradável, mas que não chega aos pés da apresentação ao vivo da cantora. No palco do Sesc Pinheiros, Yael conseguiu transformar suas canções mais modestas em números sublimes, dignos da entusiasmada ovação do público (um numeroso público, aliás).

Dois fatores são os principais responsáveis por tornar o show tão atraente. O primeiro é a liberdade que Yael encontra ali para improvisar e abusar da força e da versatilidade de sua voz, que no álbum pode parecer apenas afinada como tantas outras. O segundo ponto é a atuação impecável de sua banda, formada pelos músicos Xavier Tribolet (teclados), Laurent David (baixo) e David Donatien (percussão, e grande colaborador da carreira de Yael), que, ao vivo, dão um novo fôlego aos arranjos de cada canção. O resultado disso tudo é uma apresentação que se mantém alta do início ao fim, sem esfriar em instante algum.

Some-se ainda a essa conta, o infindável carisma de Yael, que conversa com o público durante todo o show, fazendo brincadeiras, incentivando a interação de todos e contando muitas histórias, sempre bem humorada – e, por vezes, debochada. “Esta próxima música é de uma grande amiga minha”, diz Yael, antes de tocar seu cabaret cover de “Toxic”, sucesso de Britney Spears, que nas teclas do piano da francesa ganha uma sensualidade um tanto mais sombria e elegante (e surpreendente até seu último segundo). Já para apresentar a simpática e ensolarada “New Soul”, Yael se detém um instante para explicar a origem da canção, contando como descobriu que essa era sua “primeira vez na Terra”.

Outra coisa que chama atenção na música de Yael são suas composições em hebraico, que integram boa parte de seu disco e que foram escritas após ela se mudar de Israel (onde viveu dos 4 aos 21 anos, com seus pais tunisianos) para Paris. Como a própria Yael conta no show, ela sentia muita saudade de sua casa, de sua família e de seus amigos e, por isso, decidiu escrever canções no idioma judaico (e não é à toa que essas não são as canções mais alegres do disco). No show, “Yashanti” e “7 Baboker” são as que mais se destacam.

Dentre as demais canções em inglês, outros bons momentos vieram com “Far Far”, que ao vivo é ainda mais bonita, a orientalizada “Land From Another Ocean”, e a música do ukelele, “Find Us”, estas duas ausentes no disco (não sei se são lados B ou se estarão no próximo). Já no bis, uma versão alternativa de “New Soul”, antes apresentada ao piano, agora num clima e arranjo mais casuais. Violão, acordeon, as palmas e o coro da platéia, seguindo em calmaria até quase o fim, quando então explodem em uma grande festa. Para encerrar um grande show e uma longa turnê, fazendo a noite soar como meio-dia.

E’ da un bel po’ che l’Enel promuove uno spot pubblicitario molto bello, in cui una bimba fa scorrere (oddio, un po’ inverosimilmente, ma vale il romanticismo del gesto ) un messaggio luminoso per dare la buonanotte al papà lontano che lavora appunto ssembra in una centrale dislocata della luce…almeno così mi sembra…

Il messaggio è molto bello, e la canzone…mi ha messo i brividi dalla prima volta che l’ho sentita…che cazzo di voce che ha questa ragazza così “ina”, così dolce, così rauca al punto giusto e melodica al punto giusto, e poi…quando dice:

As faixas do pequeno (e raro, mas toma aqui uma faixa) álbum da cantora israelense, radicada na França, Yael Naïm ganhou notoriedade quando a faixa New Soul apareceu num comercial. Desde então, vem conquistando um forte público, junto com o seu companheiro David Donatien.

Quem olha, nem imagina que um dos maiores hits da cantora é justamente uma versão de Toxic, da americana Britney Spears. Mas esqueça os diamantes e a loira semi-nua dos clipes da Mtv – o climaé sombio, cheio de efeitos eletrônicos, flautas, metalofone e, para a completa subversão do pop, uma guitarra estridente afinada ao som de 1970’s.

Y’a des matins comme ça. Y’a des jours dont on sait qu’ils vont nous faire oublier le reste de la semaine. Alors ces jour là, on les peaufine, on les brique, on vire toutes les interférences.

Aujourd’hui c’est vendredi, c’est un jour cocoon, c’est un jour comme ça. Je suis à peine réveillé mais je m’étire dans ce vendredi comme sous une couette bien douce. J’ai pas envie de sortir de ma torpeur, liée peut-être à une dégustation de Planteur hier. Yaël Naim délaissée depuis des mois coule dans mes oreilles, c’est doux c’est du miel. C’est sirupeux aussi, c’est mièvre, des fois ça fait pleurer. Mais aujourd’hui ce n’est qu’un rempart supplémentaire entre mes envies et les agressions de la vraie vie.

La vraie vie, celle qui fait mal, celle qui gonfle, celle qui saoule, celle qui s’amuse avec moi et mes sentiments, celle là restera dehors. Pas de polluants, pas de regrets pas de « si seulement », pas de « oui mais », pas de « et si… ». Je ne veux rien entre Elles et moi. On a lancé la consigne. Sur le vol GPG-Sentimental- Airlines en destination de nos retrouvailles, point de soucis, point de régimes, point de femmes raisonnables.

Ah ça non, point de femmes raisonnables. C’est si bon de voir ressurgir nos envies, nos rêves et nos délires. Trop drôle de revivre nos première fois, de glousser, l’œil en coin. On redevient mutine, on redevient insouciante. On a 20 ans (bon certaines les ont réellement !) avec l’assurance de la trentaine. Femmes du monde, gamines en goguette, vamps, thérapeutes, démones de la tentation, gardiennes des clés et surtout de nos secrets.

Moi les jours comme ça, les heures d’avant, je redeviens sentimentale, je m’accroche à Elles. J’ai déjà la tête ailleurs. Ce soir c’est notre rentrée scolaire. On a les batteries chargées à bloc. On a nos gommes pour effacer les emmerdes, on a le surligneur pour les yeux, le taille crayons pour les lèvres. On a nos langues de pute, nos Gamma GT dans les starting block. On a des chaussures neuves et le pas de danse qui nous démange. On s’est déjà envoyé des mails, vérifier nos textos. On s’appelle, on se bip, on se rencarde. On réserve, on prévoit. On optimise les déplacements, les terrains de jeux, on a viré Sam l’abruti qui ne boit pas.

L’adrénaline monte. Aie aie aie, respire. Il est encore trop tôt. Il faut éviter la surchauffe. Retour à Yaël Naim, dans 3 chansons je suis mure pour écrire un poème. C’est moche. Retour dans mon cocon. Cendrillon a encore quelques heures à tirer avant d’aller guincher.

"New Soul" stands out on Back to the Feature

Surprisingly, my favorite song off Wale’s star-studded Back to the Feature mixtape is not one produced by Mark Ronson and doesn’t even feature Talib Kweli, or Lady Gaga.

“New Soul” comes last on the mixtape, and there’s no better impression he could leave his audience with.  Of all the hip-hop freshmen Wale gives a shout out to on “New Soul” — Asher Roth, Wiz Khalifa, Drizzy Drake — Wale is undoubtedly the most promising.   As the BKS-produced beat samples Yael Naim’s hit “New Soul,” Wale brilliantly knocks all of hip-hop’s new souls and set himself apart.  He recognizes the current Drake craze, and dismisses it by rapping, “Slow and steady wins this race / F*ck leading.”  It’s almost comical that releasing a mixtape every year since 2005, like Wale, is considered “slow and steady” nowadays.

But one thing is for sure: Wale doesn’t sacrifice artistic integrity (a common theme in his music) in order to sloppily rush to the finish line.  Instead, he consistently produces exceptional music and he’s right in that he’s likely to have more staying power than the other probable one-hit wonders out there. So, although Drake may have the balls to undeservingly replace “Still D.R.E.” with “Still Drake”, Wale actually has the skills to back it up.

While all these “new souls” are blowing up Top 40 radio stations and selling out fast, I foresee Wale’s career going more the way of Kweli or Common.  Actually, Wale puts it better in saying, “DC chillin / PG chillin / My name Wale and I came to get it.”
