Took a swim with a big fish in the Cincinnati social media pond recently. In a free Webinar, Steve Phillips of Purple Trout shared some tips for getting your Web site, blog and social media (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.) at the top of search engine results.

Steve said to keep in mind that people search by word, topic, event and product/service. He then filled an hour with lots of good information. Here are some highlights from my notes and Twitter stream.

Web site

• Tag pdf files: Put keywords in them, using Properties. (I tried this. It’s simple to do). You can tag videos and pictures like this, too, through Properties.
• Look up XML Site Maps with Google. (Google it.) Helps Google crawl entire Web site.
• Use Google Keyword Research Tool to find popular keywords.
• Ask as if each Web page is its own Web site. Should have own title and description to optimize.
• Important to put keywords in pay-for-click campaign ads to optimize for Google searches. Also landing page.
• Tag everything on your Web site — videos, pictures, PDF files, flash.
• Keywords placed strategically within Web site help with search engine optimization.

Blog

• It’s all about content and keywords. Tag posts.
• Put your blog’s URL in Google, Yahoo!, Bing. See if being crawled.
Do link-building: Feedburner, Technorati (Submit to Technorati), comment on blogs.
• Put keyword in headline and post entry. Put headline in Google and search for results.
• Don’t just say “I agree” when commenting on other blogs. Contribute to the conversation.

Facebook

• Facebook has real-time indexing. Keep “posts by everyone” in mind Use keywords when doing status updates.
• Use all tabs (links, photos, video, events boxes…).
• Ask questions to engage participants.
• Invite people to Events

Twitter

• Optimize Twitter: Use keywords in Tweets – company name as much as possible. Include helpful links. Use company name, products, services. But be helpful.

LinkedIn

• Participate in Answers section. Can search keywords for questions in your industry. Be helpful. Answer Q’s.
• To improve search results, have profile 100% complete. Use targeted keywords in headline.

Hope this wasn’t overly technical. Not sure I understand everything! Thanks to Steve for sharing this good information. It was nice swimming in his pond.

Knights Templar win heresy reprieve after 700 years By Philip PullellaFri “The Knights Templa

Knights Templar win heresy reprieve after 700 years

By Philip PullellaFri

“The Knights Templar, the medieval Christian military order accused of heresy and sexual misconduct, will soon be partly rehabilitated when the Vatican publishes trial documents it had closely guarded for 700 years.

A reproduction of the minutes of trials against the Templars, “‘Processus Contra Templarios — Papal Inquiry into the Trial of the Templars”‘ is a massive work and much more than a book — with a 5,900 euros ($8,333) price tag.

”This is a milestone because it is the first time that these documents are being released by the Vatican, which gives a stamp of authority to the entire project,” said Professor Barbara Frale, a medievalist at the Vatican’s Secret Archives.

“Nothing before this offered scholars original documents of the trials of the Templars,” she told Reuters in a telephone interview ahead of the official presentation of the work on October 25.

The epic comes in a soft leather case that includes a large-format book including scholarly commentary, reproductions of original parchments in Latin, and — to tantalize Templar buffs — replicas of the wax seals used by 14th-century inquisitors.

Reuters was given an advance preview of the work, of which only 799 numbered copies have been made.

One parchment measuring about half a meter wide by some two meters long is so detailed that it includes reproductions of stains and imperfections seen on the originals.

Pope Benedict will be given the first set of the work, published by the Vatican Secret Archives in collaboration with Italy’s Scrinium cultural foundation, which acted as curator and will have exclusive world distribution rights.

The Templars, whose full name was “Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon,” were founded in 1119 by knights sworn to protecting Christian pilgrims visiting the Holy Land after the Crusaders captured Jerusalem in 1099.

They amassed enormous wealth and helped finance wars of some European monarchs. Legends of their hidden treasures, secret rituals and power have figured over the years in films and bestsellers such as “The Da Vinci Code.”

The Knights have also been portrayed as guardians of the legendary Holy Grail, the cup used by Christ at the Last Supper before his crucifixion.

The Vatican expects most copies of the work to be bought up by specialized libraries at top universities and by leading medieval scholars.

BURNED AT THE STAKE

The Templars went into decline after Muslims re-conquered the Holy Land at the end of the 13th century and were accused of heresy by King Philip IV of France, their foremost persecutor. Their alleged offences included denying Christ and secretly worshipping idols.

The most titillating part of the documents is the so-called Chinon Parchment, which contains phrases in which Pope Clement V absolves the Templars of charges of heresy, which had been the backbone of King Philip’s attempts to eliminate them.

Templars were burned at the stake for heresy by King Philip’s agents after they made confessions that most historians believe were given under duress.

The parchment, also known as the Chinon Chart, was “misplaced” in the Vatican archives until 2001, when Frale stumbled across it.

”The parchment was catalogued incorrectly at some point in history. At first I couldn’t believe my eyes. I was incredulous,” she said.

”This was the document that a lot of historians were looking for,” the 37-year-old scholar said.

Philip was heavily indebted to the Templars, who had helped him finance his wars, and getting rid of them was a convenient way of cancelling his debts, some historians say.

Frale said Pope Clement was convinced that while the Templars had committed some grave sins, they were not heretics.

SPITTING ON THE CROSS

Their initiation ceremony is believed to have included spitting on the cross, but Frale said they justified this as a ritual of obedience in preparation for possible capture by Muslims. They were also said to have practiced sodomy.

”Simply put, the pope recognized that they were not heretics but guilty of many other minor crimes — such as abuses, violence and sinful acts within the order,” she said. “But that is not the same as heresy.”

Despite his conviction that the Templars were not guilty of heresy, in 1312 Pope Clement ordered the Templars disbanded for what Frale called “the good of the Church” following his repeated clashes with the French king.

Frale depicted the trials against the Templars between 1307 and 1312 as a battle of political wills between Clement and Philip, and said the document means Clement’s position has to be reappraised by historians.

“This will allow anyone to see what is actually in documents like these and deflate legends that are in vogue these days,” she said.

Rosi Fontana, who has helped the Vatican coordinate the project, said: “The most incredible thing is that 700 years have passed and people are still fascinated by all of this.”

“The precise reproduction of the parchments will allow scholars to study them, touch them, admire them as if they were dealing with the real thing,” Fontana said.

”But even better, it means the originals will not deteriorate as fast as they would if they were constantly being viewed,” she said.”

All emotions have their roots in instincts, specifically Survival instinct.Emotions are natural expressions of the organism to protect itself.Bottling them up will result in physical problems, for instance when in anger or in a fighting mood more adrenalin is released and if it is not released it shall affect health.
Express your feelings and emotions. To avoid unpleasantness in life, express them in a way that is socially acceptable and at the same time give vent to your feelings. This needs training and practice. Channelize emotions, not suppress them. One simple way to give vent to your anger and frustration is to punch a soft pillow till your feeling subsides or jump in private with out clothes.Especially the second one seems to be funny, try it, you shall know.
Story:
SINGAPORE (Reuters Life!) – Men who bottle up their anger at being unfairly treated at work are up to five times more likely to suffer a heart attack, or even die from one, than those who let their frustration show, a Swedish study has found.

The study by the Stress Research Institute of Stockholm University followed 2,755 employed men who had not suffered any heart attacks from 1992 to 2003.

At the end of the study, 47 participants had either suffered an attack, or died from heart disease, and many of those had been found to be “covertly coping” with unfair treatment at work.

“After adjustment for age, socioeconomic factors, risk behaviors, job strain and biological risk factors at baseline, there was a close-response relationship between covert coping and the risk of incident myocardial infarction or cardiac death,” the study’s authors wrote.

Covert coping was listed as “letting thing pass without saying anything” and “going away” despite feelings of being hard done by colleagues or bosses.

Men who often used these coping techniques had a two to fivefold higher risk of developing heart disease than those who were more confrontational at work, the study showed.

The researchers said they could not answer the question of what might be a particularly healthy coping strategy at work, but listed open coping behavior when experiencing unfair treatment or facing a conflict as “protesting directly,” “talking to the person right away,” “yelling at the person right away” or “speaking to the person later when things have calmed down.”

The study was published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.

Important Read. NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – Though the use of fertility drugs does not seem to

Important Read.
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – Though the use of fertility drugs does not seem to generally increase uterine cancer risk, a Danish study identified small increases in risk from certain fertility drugs used for longer duration.

Dr. Allan Jensen, with the Danish Cancer Society in Copenhagen, and colleagues identified higher uterine cancer risk among women who used follicle-stimulating hormone and human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG) for more than 10 years.

They saw similar risk among women who ever took six or more cycles of clomiphene, an established treatment for women not ovulating normally, or when clomiphene did not work, when women were injected with six or more cycles of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG).

In each of these scenarios, uterine cancer risk seemed about two times the usual risk, Jensen and colleagues report in the American Journal of Epidemiology.

Even so, “the absolute risk of developing uterine cancer is still not very high,” Jensen emphasized in an email to Reuters Health.

From a group of 54,362 women treated for infertility between 1965 and 1998 and followed for 16 years on average, Jensen’s team compared the use of fertility drugs among 83 who developed uterine cancer and 1,241 of similar age who did not develop cancer of the uterus.

Overall, 51 and 50 percent of the women who did and did not develop uterine cancer, respectively, used fertility drugs. Those with uterine cancer ranged from 28 to 67 years old (50 years on average) when diagnosed.

In analyses that allowed for number of births, the investigators did not find significant differences in uterine cancer risk.

Differences in risk, as noted, became evident in analyses of specific fertility drugs used and the length of use. These risks remained when the investigators further allowed for number of births, use of a single or multiple fertility drugs, causes of infertility, and any history of oral contraceptives.

The researchers are continuing to monitor the study group to more definitively assess ties between fertility drugs and uterine cancer risk.

They caution, however, that any unfavorable effects from fertility drugs need to be balanced against the physical and psychological benefits of pregnancies that may only be possible with the use of fertility drugs.

Some people in India perform many tasks simultaneously.Depending upon the number of tasks they perfo

Some people in India perform many tasks simultaneously.Depending upon the number of tasks they perform, they are called ‘Ashtavadani( performs eight tasks simultaneosly,Dasa vadani(performs ten tasks)’.
These acts relate various disciplines, Maths,Vedic hymns, answering questions on music, performing one act with one hand and another with the other hand,Astrology, playing music, and many more.
Testing them would have yielded more insight.
Story:
Next to the many amazing feats our brain pulls off daily, its inferior ability to juggle a few simple tasks sticks out like a sore thumb. Now research from Vanderbilt University suggests that these limits on multitasking arise from slow processing in the prefrontal cortex, the brain’s central executive. Although the area has been known to be involved in multitasking, its exact role is a matter of debate.

Using functional MRI, the researchers found that when people were juggling two assignments, their prefrontal cortex appeared to deal with the tasks one by one—creating that familiar mental bottleneck—instead of processing them in parallel as do sensory and motor parts of the brain. With training the prefrontal activation time became shorter, cranking up the speed of the mental conveyor belt by about 10 times. Unfor tunately, the researchers note, the benefits of training might not apply to tasks other than those specifically practiced. “It’s not like you become able to multitask [with drills]; it’s just that you become able to do each task very quickly,” says cognitive neuroscientist Paul Dux, now at the University of Queensland in Australia, who conducted the experiment.

Escolhi três grandes veículos: CNN.com, El País e The New York Times.

This is what British bureaucracy is about. Story: BRITISH police chiefs have come under fire for a 9

This is what British bureaucracy is about.
Story:

BRITISH police chiefs have come under fire for a 93-page guide telling officers how to ride their bikes, including how to brake and how to balance to avoid falling off.

The Police Cycle Training Doctrine also warns policemen not to try to tackle suspected criminals while still “engaged with the cycle” – on the bike – and gives a diagram on “deployment into a junction” – turning left or right.

The guide was produced by the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo), which insisted it had not been fully approved for publication after the document was reported in the Sun newspaper.

Other advice includes to wear padded shorts for “in-saddle comfort,” while officers must always remember to “rear-scan” – look over their shoulders.

Undercover police are advised that they may have to cycle without a protective helmet to avoid being found out.

But, underlining the importance of sometimes-criticised health and safely laws, it warned: “This lack of protection must be noted and a full risk assessment of the required role … be undertaken.”

The Sun – which noted that the original US constitution ran to only four pages, and the Bible takes less than a page to recount God’s creation of the universe – said the guide had cost thousands of pounds.

Critics said it was a waste of money.

“I am sure it is of great value… but I think you can do this kind of thing much, much more cheaply,” said London mayor Boris Johnson, a keen cyclist who has sought to boost bike use since taking office last year.

“This is an absurd waste of police time and thousands of pounds of taxpayers’ money,” added Mark Wallace, head of the Taxpayers’ Alliance lobby group which campaigns against misuse of public money.

But Dave Holladay of the National Cycling Organisation rejected the charge that the guide was too long, and defended its contents.

“I would quite expect a manual on police cycling to tell police officers how to turn corners correctly,” he said, adding: “The advice of getting off the bike is actually included in most police bike training.”

“Police cyclists have to be exemplars,” he told the BBC.

That’s why pointing people to their favourite TV episodes and flicks may be the next big opportunity in web navigation.

Former Ask.com CEO Jim Lanzone hopes to lead the way with Clicker.com, a free service debuting on Thursday.

Clicker scours through an index that includes 400,000 TV episodes, 50,000 music videos and roughly 30,000 movies that are part of Netflix’s streaming library or Amazon.com’s video store.

It will vie against at least two similar sites as well as video search services offered by Internet heavyweights Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and AOL.

Very sad. Some doctors, despite fancy degrees, make a cursory examination and arrive at a prognosis. I

Very sad. Some doctors, despite fancy degrees, make a cursory examination and arrive at a prognosis.
In this case brain activity should have been mapped or at least pupil dilation examination should have been more thorough.
It is very hard to digest that that this should happen because of inefficiency of the doctors.
Many of us regard doctors next to God, forgetting that medicine is an evolving science ; most of the treatments are exploratory in Nature and these procedures have contra indications as well;some of the medications are effective with out anybody knowing why and how it cures.Classic example is grand mal seizure .We know that this seizure is triggered by sudden increase in electrical discharges in the brain and Eption is prescribed to treat this. But none knows how it works or whether it has side effects.
Because of commercialization of medicine , neither the doctor nor the patient has the time to discuss family history of the patient;nor are the patients interested in slow and steady cure or allowing body to take care with minimal supportive treatment.
It is imperative for patients to inform and discuss with the doctor, your family history, your known allergies and your symptoms.
It is also mandatory on the part of the patients to check the medicines prescribed for contra indications. If yes, inform the doctor and have the medicine changed.Even then you should also chek up on internet about the medicine’s efficacy. This may sound tedious, but will save not only money, but your life as well.
When going for surgery check before hand the anesthesia that is about to me administered and see if it it is compatible with your system for some anesthetics are incompatible.
If you had any disease prior to surgery that has resulted in Edema(especially pulmonary), Nitrous oxide is to be shunned.
While getting tests being carried out make sure at the lab, it is done for the part for which you have problem i.e.what the doctor has prescribed and see that the report is yours when you collect it.Never depute somebody else to collect it.
Also popping pills based on advertisement or based on what your doctor has prescribed earlier ailments is dangerous.
All these jobs are to be carried out by Doctors.Unfortunately,Doctors have no time for patients for they are too busy.

Story:

Conscious but unable to communicate for 23 years after a car accident that was thought to have put him into a deep coma, a quadriplegic Belgian man has described how medical science finally put an end to his agonizing years of silence.

Now able to make himself understood via a computer and specially built keyboard, the man, Rom Houben, said in the Monday issue of the German magazine Der Spiegel that when doctors made the correct diagnosis, it was like starting a second life.

“I shall never forget the day when they discovered what was truly wrong with me — it was my second birth,” Mr. Houben, now 46, was quoted as saying.

Mr. Houben, who was an engineering student at the time of the accident, lives in a care home near Brussels. He was assumed to be in a persistent vegetative state until three years ago, when the breakthrough was made.

In the interview he recalled the aftermath of the car accident that paralyzed him and the realization that no one understood that he was fully conscious.

“I screamed, but there was nothing to hear,” he said. He added that he then became a witness to his own suffering as doctors and nurses tried to speak with him until they gave up all hope.

Using brain scanning techniques, Dr. Steven Laureys, a neurological researcher at the Liège University Hospital, discovered that Mr. Houben’s cerebral cortex was still active.

On Monday, Dr. Laureys, who recently published a paper on comas, said that as many as 4 out of 10 similar patients may have been misdiagnosed.

He also described the moment he realized, for the first time that Mr. Houben was fully conscious. “It was one of those rare moments where you really see that what you are doing is useful,” he said in a telephone interview.

“It was a very big moment not just for me but for the whole team, one of those few much-needed moments” for medical professionals.

Intel Corporation is being featured here today and at
Stock-Market-Keywords.com for the time period
starting 11/3/2008 to 11/24/2009.

Although the stock metadata reports presented for Intel Corporation are 100% accurate, the actual stock prices and number of shares traded in these reports for Intel Corporation have been altered slightly to maintain the focus on the metadata.

Let’s get started. Metadata refers to data about data. We can examine some of what is available from using metadata by simply looking at two of the reports found here as PDFs for Intel Corporation.

First, click on the Daily Historical Metadata Summary report screen shown below. Here you’ll see one type of metadata analysis with results for Intel Corporation showing stock price ranges and price relationships for a defined time frame indicating how shares of this company have been trading.

You can then use these types of statistics to obtain hints of what to expect and not expect to happen with the stock price during the day, a sort of best-case or worst-case scenario.

The 15-minute Hi-Low Counts report shown below for Intel Corporation can be equally informative. Statistically speaking when analyzing stock information over a specific date range, if you want to know the 15-minute period when shares trade at their highest price or lowest price, or the 15-minute period when the highest or lowest number of shares are traded, this report provides those answers.

Story:
The BBC has been holding discussions with City advisers about floating part of BBC Worldwide, its commercial arm, in response to pressure from the government and commercial rivals to dilute its media market power.

As Sir Michael Lyons, chairman of the BBC Trust, told the Financial Times on Tuesday that he had “an open mind” about the future ownership of Worldwide, people with knowledge of the matter said a partial flotation was one of several possible outcomes, including no change to its status.

Atrocious.Whose money is this for politicians to dole out without debate and arrange it secretly?
How much more money has been paid or being to whom? What has the Treasury auditor’s doing?
Banks are operated for share holders for profits? Why should public money be paid to them for their mess? They know how to blackmail , stating that ‘investor confidence shall melt?’
The Mafia of Banks and politicians is far more dangerous than Drug cartels.
Incidentally which party and politician has received how much?

The Bank of England has revealed for the first time that it lent Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and HBOS £61.6bn in emergency funding last autumn.
Bank governor Mervyn King told a committee of MPs it “was to prevent a loss of confidence spreading through the financial system as a whole”.
The money was repaid in full by January this year, he added.
A spokesman for the prime minister said it was “a powerful reminder” of how the banking system had nearly collapsed.

It was also revealed that Chancellor Alistair Darling had agreed to underwrite any losses which the Bank may have made on the loans.
The Liberal Democrats have called on Mr Darling to explain to the House of Commons why the Treasury guarantees were kept secret.
Vince Cable, the party’s Treasury spokesman, called it a “shocking cover-up”.
Shadow Chancellor George Osborne said the revelations about the secret loans showed the need to reform the system of banking regulation.
“The scale of these loans raises the question of how Labour’s tripartite regulatory structure allowed these banks to come so close to collapse in the first place, and underlines the need for fundamental reform to put the Bank of England back in charge,” he said.
Secrecy
It is the first time that the central bank has detailed this support for the two institutions.

We may feel numbed these days when there is talk of the hundreds of billions of pounds in taxpayer support to the banks.
Even so, the revelation of these secret emergency loans to RBS and HBOS a year ago is breath-taking.
The Bank of England only felt it was safe to reveal this covert support now, once the ink was dry on longer-term bailout deals agreed with the banks a couple of weeks ago.
Lloyds shareholders were being asked to approve the takeover of HBOS. Yet they were not told about a Northern Rock-style cash bailout of HBOS.
The authorities argue that disclosing the loans would have caused greater disturbance to the whole system. But bank shareholders might well see it differently.
Mervyn King said the Bank was acting in its capacity as the lender of last resort.
The loans, which were given in October and November of 2008, were in addition to other financial support measures extended to the banks by the government.
The chairman of the Treasury Committee, John McFall, said that when he saw the amount there had been “a little bit of an intake of breath thinking how many universities, how many colleges, how many jobs you could support with this”.
The Bank of England said it had carefully considered the public interest case for disclosure but decided that the assistance should only be revealed “once the Bank considers that the need for secrecy has ceased”.
RBS has since signed up for the government’s Asset Protection Scheme while Lloyds Banking Group – which took over HBOS – has announced plans to raise capital from its shareholders.
The BBC’s chief economics correspondent Hugh Pym said that the £62bn of emergency loans were agreed just as shareholders were being asked to approve the takeover of HBOS. He suggested that shareholders might be unhappy at not being told earlier.
Profound challenges

In his parliamentary testimony Mr King also discussed the wider UK economy, reiterating his view that the recovery was still in the early stages.
He told the Treasury Committee that the economy still faced “profound challenges”.
Regarding the Bank’s policy of quantitative easing – pumping money into the economy to try to boost lending by the commercial banks – Adam Posen, one of Mr King’s colleagues on the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), said he hoped the initiative was “coming to an end”.
Last month, the MPC voted to increase its quantitative easing programme by a further £25bn to £200bn.
However, minutes released subsequently showed a three-way split on the decision, with seven of the nine MPC members voting for it, one wanting a larger increase in the scheme, and one calling for no additional spending.
Mr King also told MPs that he did not think there was any “immediate risk” of the UK having a credit downgrade.

The desire and need to preserve artifacts has predated our existence. Man has communicated by telling stories, through saving bits and pieces of history, by communicating through pictures or memories. Some call it nostalgia, others call it living in hyper-reality. Museums, arts and culture have always played a vital role in societies. In many ways they define and shape the personality of civilizations and give meaning to our existence. They represent our past and present and point towards our future.

In the current digital age one can access museum collections online, take virtual tours, look at archives and search for almost anything and everything. Now Guggenheim, MoMa, Louvre, MFA etc. are just a click away. Online advertising and publicity has helped many museums attract visitors and generate revenue. Where famous museums get their share of active publicity and advertising both online and in the real world, we rarely hear about museums like “The National Museum of Iraq” in Baghdad.

Such museums lose their identity unless someone steps forward to preserve the past. The Iraqi Museum represents the rich, vibrant culture of Iraq. A place that documents it’s history and showcases artifacts from the various civilizations that lived there. One would imagine that such a place would gather a great many visitors but sadly that is not the case. CNN officials state that the museum “houses some of ancient Mesopotamia’s rarest artifacts, but what is even harder to find at Iraq’s National Museum are visitors. “

Google and the U.S. government have teamed up with the museum to work towards showing the world the historic collections present at the museum. Google is said to have taken 14,000 photographs of the artifacts to document the various collections. Yahoo News reports that, “The museum holds artifacts from the Stone Age through the Babylonian, Assyrian and Islamic periods.” Google chief Eric Schimdt visited the National Museum of Iraq today.

Google plans to create a ‘virtual museum’ and showcase these images to the world. The Associated Press states that, “The museum was ransacked in the chaotic aftermath of Saddam Hussein’s ouster in April 2003, and only reopened to visitors early this year. Schmidt, who toured the museum with U.S. Ambassador Christopher Hill on Tuesday, said it was important for the world to see Iraq’s rich heritage and contribution to world culture.” Schmidt in an address to the Iraqi officials stated that “The history of the beginning of — literally — civilization is made right here and is preserved here in this museum…I can think of no better use of our time and our resources than to make the images and ideas from your civilization, from the very beginnings of time, available to billions of people worldwide,” (- The Associated Press).

This seems to be the first of many more positive developments yet to happen in Iraq. By early next year we will be able to witness the rich Iraqi culture online. This step taken by Google holds strategic importance and will help create a positive footprint for Iraq in the future. It’s amazing to see how digital media transforms the world around us and helps us all stay in tune with the Global economy.
