<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>On saturday I headed out with Tommo, Kirky and my younger brother Jay to Eastern Creek for them to ride at another track day, I was torn about racing myself, I love it, but it&#8217;s alot of money and stress, but fantastic fun, either way I decided I&#8217;d rather help out on the day with the Ute, Timing, &#38; Photographing etc. All the boys beat their previous best times and no one crashed, so a win/win day, there were a few moments from everyone mostly with wheelspin in certain parts of the track, which was crazy to watch, but that&#8217;s what happens with an 1000cc motocycle, dying tyres and plenty of throttle input.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Suomen Road Race Ajajat ry (ratamoottoripyöräilyn kilpakuljettajien etujärjestö) järjesti moottoripyörien ajoleirin Virtasalmen Motoparkissa heinäkuun viimeisenä viikonloppuna  25.-26.7.2009. </p>
<p>Rankkasateista johtuen ensimmäinen leiripäivä koostui enimmäkseen luennoista ajamisen sijasta. Sateet loppuivat iltapäivällä, silloin päästiin vihdoin radalle. </p>
<p>Alkuillasta lähdin autolla katselemaan maisemia, ohessa pari otosta siitä miltä Virtasalmella näyttää rankkasateen jälkeen:</p>

<p>Hello all,</p>

<p>Sunday there I was at Knockhill for the Scottish Championship motorcycle racing. It was a brilliant day out, which resulted in a mega sun-burnt panda face. Scottish wind+sun=false sense of security.</p>
<p>Anyway, I was there to test out a new lens I got, and I have to say I am really chuffed with the results. I shall now post them up for you. </p>
<p>My bike (GSR) is now back, and with it a complete history of work done to my bike including the latest sheet, which has all the parts needed for the corrosion job&#8230;and is 2 pages long.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Hace unos cuantos meses me hice de una Yamaha R1 como siempre la había imaginado, así fue que en septiembre del &#8216;08 retomo mi gran pasatiempo de las motocicletas. Y he de decir que es sin duda mi mayor pasión.<br />
Siempre al platicar del tema los riesgos sobre manejar motocicleta en la ciudad se hacen presentes una y otra vez. Y francamente creo es necesario tenerlos presentes el mayor número de veces posibles porque de alguna forma no están nada alejados de la realidad. Ya alguna vez pude experimentar clavados sobre el asfalto y no quedan muchas ganas de repetirlo, simplemente, por las oportunidades que se van gastando en la vida. Más ningún sentido tendría salir con ese pensamiento, es más creo se contrapone a la idea de !andar en moto! Esa advertencia se hizo presente la segunda vez que manejaba mi moto hacia la Universidad, y me dije recuerda, los conductores de la Ciudad de México sencillamente cada vez empeoran más que los que se corrigen. Esa vez una linda madre de una estudiante decide dejar bajar de su Sienna en plena entrada del estacionamiento al cual iba tranquilamente entrando. Al verme por el retrovisor la atenta señora, que mejor idea que huir haciéndose la desentendida del accidente que acaba de ocasionar, ¿puede ser posible?. Andar leyendo los pensamientos de aquellos conductores imprudentes es tarea que nos toca a nosotros que manejamos motocicletas. Que maldito el día que obtuvieron su licencia de manejar. En fin ahí no acaba las lecciones de la urbe. Una señora te puede &#8220;aventar lamina&#8221; y tras haber rayado su carrocería, con tu ocurrencia de caerte, reclama, justamente, que llames a tu seguro para pagar los daños que ocasionaste por interponerte en su camino. Para terminar pronto, a un ciudadano &#8220;sin importancia alguna&#8221; como yo se le puede aventar lamina, a un policía en motocicleta ya es el colmo y más, por la nula autoridad que otros elementos tuvieron ante tal evento y, el poco valor del uniformado para enfrentar una conducta anormal de ese conductor. Todo ocurre en la decadente mañana de las 7:05 en Av. Chapultepec.<br />
Si bien hay motociclistas intrépidos que manejan como bestias no es justo que generalicen, pues casi siempre las excusas de los conductores son: &#8220;manejan como locos&#8221;. De cualquier forma, el número de motociclistas sigue en aumento y si no hay un cambio en la cultura de los conductores, y digo en general, un verdadero cambio, los motociclistas quedan a expensas de esos cafres!</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>So all the lovely new goodies I had on order for Scarlet had come in, but I had to hold off for a couple weeks to get them installed.  So today was Scarlet&#8217;s makeover day.</p>
<p>I went with the Pazzo levers in the standard length (versus the ever-popular shorties) and I&#8217;m pleased that I did.  They look gorgeous, and they&#8217;re quite comfortable when riding. </p>
<p>We also installed the Greg&#8217;s flushmount front turn signals, and Clear Alternatives Taillight/turn signal intergrator, the new tag bracket, and the clutch slider.  All in all, no major changes, but just subtle changes that really clean up her overall appearance (especially from the back!).</p>

<p>As mentioned yesterday, today was a big group ride&#8230; 20 of us to be exact.  Sunny skies, 80 degrees, a soft breeze, and 1000cc&#8217;s between my legs.  Yeah, not a bad way to spend the day.</p>
<p>We met at the appointed spot, and to my surprise, most everyone who said they were coming out today actually DID (so often people wuss out at the last minute, having slept in or whatever).  The enthusiasm in the air was palpable.</p>
<p>We headed south on 13 (a typical route), and then to 207 into Palatka (again, a route we travel often &#8212; the scenery along the St. John&#8217;s River is just amazing, dappled sunlight shining on the pavement before us).  Following a stop for lunch in Palatka, we headed south and west into Hastings and beyond (in truth, I don&#8217;t know exactly where we were).  It was this leg of the trip where we really got to get out and enjoy the ride&#8230; sweeping turns, dips and hills, thick forest dotted with open farmland, and very little traffic between us and the horizon.  Simply perfect.</p>
<p>We paused once more in Hastings for a bottled water and some fuel, then headed out some more 2-lane deserted roads before reconvening at a friend&#8217;s house (to meet their new puppy).  A spirited ride home found us tired, but grinning from ear to ear.</p>
<p>I got to test-ride the new Tech Spec tank grips for the first time today.  For the first few miles, I found them a bit odd, and I felt I needed to make a more concerted effort to move my feet/legs in order to shift and brake.  But once I got used to this, I realized I felt so much more connected to the bike (literally) in cornering and stopping &#8211; just gently gripping the tank with my knees, and I felt very stable and in control.  Definitely a wise investment. </p>
<p>The odometer reading for today is in question &#8211; our ride leader indicates he showed 222 miles; my reading showed about 196 (so I&#8217;ll just go with that).</p>

<p>*sigh*</p>
<p>While the weather outside isn&#8217;t frightful right NOW, lately it&#8217;s been a tad&#8230; well&#8230; craptacular.  Either very cold, very wet or very foggy almost every morning.  And the days it&#8217;s been nice?  It seems I always had errands to run in preparation for the holidays. </p>
<p>I&#8217;m going through withdrawals!!  I haven&#8217;t ridden in a couple of weeks, and were it not for Chris taking her out one day (to ride to work), she&#8217;d be feeling unloved (and might have a dead battery!).</p>
<p>Tomorrow, however, we&#8217;ll make up for lost time (and miles).  We have a HUGE, long group ride planned, with both local friends, as well as some from Lake City, Ocala and Gainesville.  Should make for an amazing day.</p>
<p>In the meantime, however, we have gotten a lot of the parts on order for Scarlet, many of which have come in (I&#8217;ve updated the &#8220;Wish List&#8221; page accordingly).  Hopefully in the next couple of weeks, we&#8217;ll get some of the bigger projects installed, including the new taillight, turn signals and levers.  YAY!</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Back when I was new to riding, we used to venture out in the evening pretty regularly.  Once traffic had died down, and the roads were empty, it was the perfect time to get in some seat time with my bike, and really &#8216;learn&#8217; her. </p>
<p>But over the years, the nighttime rides became more and more infrequent.  So I was thrilled when some friends suggested we head out for a little impromptu evening ride last night.  Just my husband and I, three friends, some newly paved roads, and dinner.  What more could I ask for?</p>
<p>Since we haven&#8217;t ridden at night in so long, I&#8217;d forgotten how calming and peaceful it is.  It was cold (almost bitter cold), but even so, it was just a very relaxing ride.  No MP3 player, no talking, just the hum of the engine between my legs and my own thoughts.</p>

<title><![CDATA[Sunday Ride]]></title>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Today&#8217;s ride shall go down on the books as a Polar Bear Run.  That is, it was cold.  Really, really friggin cold.</p>
<p>When I left home at 9:30 a.m., it was a balmy 45 degrees out, with winds gusting to 20+ mph.  But the sun was shining, and it was a glorious and clear morning, so off I went.  I donned leather, a thermal and gauntlets to shield out as much of the cold as possible, however I couldn&#8217;t locate either the liner for my jacket, nor my silk glove liners, so I wasn&#8217;t quite as warm as I&#8217;d hoped to be.</p>
<p>I set out to meet up with friends at the appointed spot, about 20 miles from home.  By the time I reached them, my fingers were numb from the cold.  Standing in the sunshine, it felt comfortable, almost pleasant, but once at highway speeds, the cold chilled you to the bone.</p>
<p>The rest of our herd finally arrived by about 10:30, and we headed out, winding south along the St. John&#8217;s River, along SR13 and 16.  The heavy tree canopy made for dappled sunlight, that was at the same time both beautiful and almost mesmerizing.</p>
<p>After some narrow roads with sweeping turns, we found a wider, more open road, with fresh, unblemished pavement and wide open spaces.  While the farmlands that surrounded us made for a serene backdrop to our ride, the wind that whipped across them was startling and frigid.</p>
<p>We arrived in Palatka, and paused for lunch.  Now 90 miles into the trip, my fingertips felt as if they had no circulation at all. </p>
<p>Following lunch, half of us split off and headed north, while the other half braved the cold and ventured south into the Ocala National Forest.  Not knowing how exactly to get home (without backtracking the exact route we&#8217;d just traveled), I opted to follow some friends that were heading north and west, knowing I&#8217;d cross a state road that would take me home.  However, this proved to be the &#8216;long way around,&#8217; and it was over 100 miles of bitter cold before I made it home.</p>
<p>That said, it was still (as yesterday) an enjoyable ride.  I&#8217;m getting more and more comfortable with Scarlet, getting to know where her power lurks, and just how quick her response is when I summon it.</p>
