The Hypersimplification of Coinage

When you look at all of the things Mac Funamizu has conjured up, you notice a lot of tech going on. If you are a Mac connoisseur, you’re in for a treat: an utterly analog coin design. This project is based on the idea that it’s a challenge for people who travel to figure out the coin-and-note system of money in each new country they’re in. Solution? Pie chart coins!

This project right here is called “Infographic Coins” and the original intent is to for just a moment dismiss the obvious pros in the circular-only design of modern coins and jump on the fractions train. Think how simple it would be entering into new monetary systems in new countries when everything is based on the singular, (the dollar, the euro, the mark, the peso,) visually, on the one!

O material envolve o “recheio” de componentes eletrônicos, assim como em câmeras e celulares descartáveis existentes.
O produto é apenas conceitual.

Nota: realmente precisa de muito estudo antes de lançar um produto assim. Imagina se o papelão só durar 1 mês? Vai ficar trocando sempre? E a mão-de-obra? Tempo pra troca?

I found this recyclable laptop concept on Yanko Design today. It is a really interesting concept. It got me thinking about this idea of “disposable valuables”. What if the products we use every day and value a great deal were disposable? How would this change they we use them? How would it change their lifecycles?

It is the inspiration for my next studio project… stay tuned.

Não há dúvida: hoje, o conceito de um laptop descartável é completamente ridículo. Mas sabe o que mais era ridículo? Câmeras descartáveis, há 60 anos. E isto aqui tem um visual fantástico, então eu deixo passar. E ele ainda é simbólico!

Existem muitas falhas que você pode apontar neste conceito, como o uso exagerado de termos sem sentido como "bio chip" e palavras chamativas como "convergência" e "alta tecnologia", e o fato de que, quando componentes vitais como a bateria e a tela estiverem baratos o suficiente para se jogar fora — isso será em 2020, de acordo com os cálculos completamente arbitrários do designer —, os laptops, ou qualquer outro dispositivo que estejamos usando, provavelmente não terão esse formato.

Se bem que estamos indo rumo a um design parecido com esse, mesmo: parece que netbooks frágeis e baratos são feitos para durarem pouco, e até meu MacBook branco parecia que estava prestes a se desintegrar depois de dois anos sendo bastante usado. Não é de papelão, mas parecia mesmo descartável. [Yanko]

Mais dois artefatos da tecnologia inspirada pela web 2.0 demonstram que não há limites que a imaginação e a criatividade não consigam superar. O primeiro é a SenseCam, uma espécie de gravador que registra tudo que acontece com você nos espaços que frequenta, todos os dias. Os fabricantes estão anunciando como o “relógio de pulso” deste século.

Você usa pendurado no pescoço e a geringonça tira fotos (sem sua interferência) de tudo que está à sua volta e ainda grava sons sem parar. Vem com GPS e você estoca os incontáveis terabytes de dados no grande arquivo da internet, on the cloud.

Parece bom para você? Pode ser útil sim, para um projeto de reportagem urbana, coleta de idéias, imagens aleatórias. O gadget ideal para meu amigo Júlio Lira em seus Percursos Urbanos.

O segundo parece mesmo coisa de ficção científica. Uma lente de contato que possibilita que você controle os movimentos do mouse do computador com o olhar. Por enquanto está sendo chamado de I Contact e essencialmente trata-se de um “mouse” adaptado para o globo ocular.

A lente é colocada da mesma forma que qualquer lente de contato convencional. O que a torna diferente são os sensores espalhados por sua superfície e que acompanham os movimentos do olho e quando há a fixação em um determinado imagem ou ponto da tela, enviam o sinal para um receptor no computador e aí se estabelece controle completo sobre o cursor do mouse. Só não foi explicado como são executados os movimentos de clicar (uma piscada do olho?) e o de clicar, selecionar, arrastar…

Os designers são Eun-Gyeong Gwon e Eun-Jae-Lee e a idéia surgiu originalmente como solução para pessoas com incapacidade motora. Mas vale para qualquer um.

Designed by Omid Sadri, an engineer with a passion for art, this unique bowl consists of three layers. Each layer is designed to hold a key ingredient from a delicious bowl of pho.

While I prefer the simplicity of eating my pho out of the conventional plastic bowl, I wouldn’t mind displaying this as an artpiece.

the inverted cubicle? this workspace is designed to accomodate “three stages of modern office work flow.” the seating, while interestingly designed, only looks ergonomic for “relaxing” (i haven’t worked many places other than my home where reclining is encouraged0). more appropriate for home use, or even adapted for airplane seating, this comes via designer: o4i, via yanko design. see the proposed use of the unit, in the explanation below.

Like a Virus attack on my PC is not the best thing, but if I wanted to add a bit fun-element to the situation, I would go for the Dr Hard Drive Bag. Fashioned like a life-saving drip, the system comprises of a circuit board of hard drive with relevant software. This tangible virus vaccine plugs into the lappie and pre-loaded software helps recover precious files and data. Jazzing up the scene a bit are the Twinky lights that shimmer while the software does its job. Trata-se apenas de um conceito premiado no concurso “Relax Contest”, da revista eletrônica Yanko Design.  Mas, seria um sonho se ele realmente fosse produzido. Criado pela D.K. Wei, o sofá batizado de Cloud é um verdadeiro devaneio quando o assunto é relax e conforto. Em formato de nuvem, ele utiliza o magnetismo, inferido pela diferença de cargas entre o sofá e a base metálica, para flutuar e levar qualquer um as alturas!

その最近号でフィーチャーしているのが、ネットブックに触発されて Tommaso Gecchelin がデザインした「MacBook Touch」。これがなかなかカッコいい・・・

架空のアイデアを画像にしたものだが、デザインコンセプトを明らかにしているところが楽しい。

MacBook Touch のコンセプトの中核は、「iSpine」と Gecchelin が呼ぶ技術だ。例えば本の背表紙のようにして、スクリーン部分に過剰な集積を強いることを避けつつ、ラップトップのいろんな使い方ができることを可能にするアイデアだ。通常のスクリーンとタッチスクリーンを備えたラップトップとしての使い方から、スケッチやプレゼンテーション、映画鑑賞のためのワイドスクリーンキャンバスまで様々な使い方ができる。全てを最小限に収めるため、電源やミニディスプレイ、USB のようなポートは外部の Magic Dock に回して、ラップトップ自体はスリムかつクリーンにするとともに、プラグや穴の部分を極力避けることとした。

The core of this concept is a technology he calls iSpine. Like the spine of a book, the tech avoid excessive compression on the screen, yet allows the laptop to sit in multiple viewing positions. Go from a normal laptop with screen and touchscreen board – to a large widescreen canvas for drawing, presentation or movie watching. To keep everything minimal, ports like power, the mini display, and additional USB are externalized on a “Magic Dock” to keep most of the laptop slim and clean of an array of holes and plugs.
