Yanni & the Voices, featuring Nathan Pacheco was aired on Christmas Day on ABC, with their version of “O Holy Night”.  It was beautifully done, sent chills down the spine, as well as goose bumps all over.  It is truly one of the most beautiful versions ever recorded, & hopefully many people all over the country were able to watch & listen to it.  I give it 10 thumbs up, if I had that many.

Cambiando de tercio nuevamente en el Auricular Digital, hoy nos adentramos por tierras griegas para presentaros a un compositor. Su nombre artístico es Yanni, pero a diferencia de otras veces, os presentaré un video de uno de sus conciertos sin explicaros previamente nada sobre él, para intentar engancharos poco a poco a su música. Se trata de música de Vivaldi, pero tocada de una manera especial.

Espero que os haya gustado está primera toma de contacto. Decir que Yanni, es el tipo de bigote rodeado de teclados. Los demás son al violín, el armenio Samvel Yervinyan y la japonesa Sayaka Katsuki , al arpa el paraguayo Victor Espinola y a la trompeta Ramón Flores de México. Todos ellos auténticos virtuosos con su instrumento. A alguno seguro que le ha venido a la mente Luis Cobos en cuanto le ha visto. Tranquilos!. Este hombre tiene canciones propias.

Yanni Chryssomallis, es un compositor y pianista griego. El cataloga su música como “Instrumental Contemporánea”. Tiene ya numerosos discos publicados, aunque si tuviera que rescatar uno, sin duda escogería el Live at the Acrópolis. Grabado en un marco incomparable para los griegos como es el teatro de Herodes Atticus, convirtió este concierto-álbum en un autentico éxito comercial. Consultando la wikipedia, habla lo siguiente:

Bajo la supervisión del director Shardad Rohani, y la Orquesta Filarmónica Real, realizó un concierto magistral. Posteriormente, el concierto fue retransmitido en Estados Unidos en el Public Broadcasting Service, y rápidamente llegó a ser uno de sus programas de mayor popularidad. Se ha mantenido estable en los éxitos mundiales desde su presentación y es el segundo vídeo de mayor éxito de ventas musicales de todos los tiempos. Se llegaron a vender a nivel mundial, más de 10 millones de copias.

Pero no solo por este álbum es conocido Yanni, ya que con anterioridad, su tema Aria, que formaba parte del álbum Dare to Dream, fue nominada al Grammy. Dependiendo del concierto, la vocalista de este tema varía. Una auténtica joya musical y con una calidad de imagen impresionante.

Continuamos. Pero no os hagáis una idea equivocada. Yanni, es mucho más que estos dos videos. Ya retornando a temas más clásicos y que me gustan bastante. Se me ocurre Standing in motion (tema que va de menos a más), o alguna más lentita como es Reflections of passion, o The rain must fall , aunque si tuviera que poner de nuevo un video lo haría de Santorini. La inclusión de orquesta a este tema, pone un contrapunto perfecto a las notas de Yanni.

Pero hay más, mucho más y en una entrada no se puede abarcar toda la música de este compositor griego. No puedo dejar en el tintero  Before I go (estupenda pieza de piano), Keys to Imagination, etc… Lo mejor, si os ha gustado estos videos, es  ir haciéndose con su obra, ya que en cada uno de ellos, intenta agregar cosas nuevas (líricas, instrumentos australianos, etc..). Ya para terminar os dejo un video, de su canción Nostalgia, donde podemos ver la faceta más común de Yanni al piano. Increíble tema.

Yanni (Yanni Chrysomallis, 14 November 1954), adalah pianis sekaligus komposer dari Yunani. Yanni sempat populer di Indonesia sekitar tahun 90-an. Musisi yang satu ini termasuk produktif dalam mengeluarkan album. Yanni (Yiannis Hrysomallis) born on November 14, 1954 in Kalamata, Greece. He is a self-taught pianist, keyboardist, and composer. After receiving a B.A. in psychology, he would instead seek a life in music though he had no formal training and could not read a note.

He earned Grammy nominations for his 1992 album, Dare to Dream, and the 1993 follow-up, In My Time. His breakthrough success came with the 1994 release of Yanni Live at the Acropolis, deemed to be the second best-selling music video of all time,[1] (behind Michael Jackson’s video for Thriller with nine million units). Yanni has since performed live in concert before in excess of two million people in more than 20 countries around the world. He has accumulated more than 35 platinum and gold albums globally, with sales totaling over 20 million copies. Yanni is considered to be one of the top fundraisers of all time for public television. His compositions have been included in all Olympic Games television broadcasts since 1988, and his music has been used extensively in television and televised sporting events. His music is frequently described as “new age”, though he prefers the term “contemporary instrumental”. The regents of the University of Minnesota conferred upon Yanni the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.
