While the band is terrible, this player is fantastic.  The outgoing Laporta has proverbially sh*t on him in the past few months and I think that he’s a viable target man for many clubs despite public statements to the contrary.

However, I don’t think we need him for one, two, maybe three reasons.

Un raison: we have Song.  The only replacement for Song that makes any sense is a non-African player who won’t be out of the picture come January-February.

Second potential reason: older brother/former gunner/current manc–kolo. Any hint of locker room issues or strained loyalties reeks of a bad recruitment.

Third potential reason: can’t play for any other squad this season in the champions league.

How apropo that  J.R.R. Tolken was the first to draw our attention to the beauty of those two words and how they sound (phonaesthetics).  If he were still alive today, I’d beg him to invent a new word or two in those wonderful fantasy languages he created that combined good phonaesthetics and functionality.

Cellar door.  Cellar door.  Cellar door.  Grandma.  Granny.  It’s the G-R combo that gets me.  My skin doesn’t even crawl as much hearing abuelita.

I am not reacting to the idea – just the sound.  It grates on me.  I fully embrace and am proud of my gray hair and the age it represents. What’s not to love about having enough experience to handle whatever an 8 lb. wonder can throw at me?  I can easily tuck him under my arm and still make lunch.  Changing diapers, regardless of how frightening they may seem…I’ve seen it ALL.  But the name thing?  In our family all the best ones are already taken…these roll easily off the tongue.  Yaya.  Nana.

Shop Girl and I have deliberated long and hard behind closed doors over this one.  It has to sound right.  It has to feel right.  If the Kid could call me Cellar Door – I’d let him.  Fact is, he can’t call me anything at this point.  But we are going with Momo.

It just so happens that one of Shop Girl’s favorite books by Michael Ende is Momo.  Widely read by school children in Europe (wanna get me started again on another rant??), it seems be scarce in these parts.  Maybe that is all part of it too.  There are hundreds of variations and nicknames for my new role…but how many Momo’s do you know?

p.s.  The photo is as close as I could come today for the theme.  Truth is, it’s the door to a lighthouse in Sagres, Portugal (if I remember correctly)…but we can all imagine that somewhere in the world – there might be a cellar door with such a great looking latch, right?

I was looking for an email I sent to a friend when I came across a different email I sent to him with the subject titled “What is your joy list?” This article was written by preacher Bo Sanchez and in it, he wrote in detail the things that give him joy, hence, the title.

My mind immediately went to work listing mentally what my joy list would contain.

In no particular order, here they are:

1. Seeing my children, hugging and kissing them. And hugging and kissing and kissing and hugging them. This means that even if Ate Kara is already all of 12 years old, I still enjoy kissing and hugging and yes, even pestering her. Many a time she has told her friends she has a makulit and kunsintidorang mom. I agree.

2. Hearing Kara tell me she loves me after talking over the phone. Hearing Jeremy tell me he loves me. (Cass can’t say I love you yet)

3. Kissing and hugging Bong

4. Hearing Bong tell me he loves me a couple of times in one day.

5. Reading Bong’s text messages as I begin another day at work, telling me he loves me so much and that he wishes I’d have a great day…to think we ride together on our way to work.

6. Hearing mass together as a family…singing the responsorial psalm during the Mass…singing for Him

7. Praying every morning with Bong before going to work

8. knowing that the kids are safe and very well-taken care of (just gave Jeremy’s yaya a raise. Ü)

9. Shopping for the kids and Bong

10. grocery shopping. Yes, even this.

11. Finding a 500 peso bill in my wallet when I thought I didn’t have money anymore (I didn’t withdraw from the ATM so I thought I only had P50 in my wallet)

I still have a lot,  and I will surely add more to this… I realized the things that give me joy are mostly those one can’t buy. After all, you can never buy love, caring and friendship, can you?

I felt the pain last Sunday night, after we had a family day out.

Monday, my lower back was still painful but I still willed myself to go to work. That night, I kept on complaining that the pain wasn’t letting up. It was in fact, getting worse.

Tuesday, Bong had to bring me to the office. Despite the pain, I had no intention of missing work. But during that 4-hour seminar in our auditorium, I decided I had to go to the hospital. The pain was getting intense, and I didn’t want to reach the point where walking would be close to impossible.

So my sister fetched me and brought me to Asian Hospital. I told the ER doctor of my slipped disc history in 2006. she asked what I did that led to my back hurting and I told her I carried Cassie for longer periods of time last Sunday. You see, I wanted our two yayas to enjoy the rides and have a really good time, so I took Cassie and our bags with me, not knowing that it would trigger my old problem.

The ER doctor ordered an MRI. When I first heard of it, I really got scared. I still can vividly remember my first MRI experience at the same hospital three years ago. I vowed to myself I wouldn’t undergo another one as it really traumatized me. Just imagine being placed inside a capsule that made it look as if I were inside a casket. It didn’t help that there were hammering noises for most of those 20 minutes inside the machine. Unfortunately, they said my MRI plates were no longer in the hospital and I had to undergo another one. shoot!

So for the next twenty minutes while i was inside that blasted machine, I tried not to open my eyes, and just tried to count and sing songs to myself. I was scared of my blood pressure going up due to fear. (though I don’t have a history of high blood pressure…my usual is 100/70)

Later on, the results were read by the Orthopedic surgeon and the verdict was handed to me. I still had a slipped disc (something i’ve known since three years ago) and the disc that slipped was already quite large. I was just lucky it wasn’t pressing on a nerve, otherwise, i’d have lost my ability to control my urine and bowel movement, not to mention sensation in my legs.)

I was admitted in the hospital and put on meds, which actually dulled the pain. I was told to lie down for most of the time to relieve the pressure off my back. Sitting makes the pain worse, anyway. And so, I spent the night in the hospital. It was a lonely night even though my mom and my sister were with me. I wasn’t with the kids. I told Bong to just go home so the kids would have a daddy. I missed them too much.

The next day, yesterday, I asked the doctor to discharge me so I could recuperate at home. I knew I’d just get sicker in the hospital. He was very understanding, thankfully, so he sent me home with reminders to be more careful, no lifting or bending, and definitely no carrying of little heavy piglets at home. yeah. yeah.

And so here I am, lying on the bed while writing this. I’d have to stay in bed for two more days. I am hoping though that I’d be better on Monday so I could go back to work.

But while I am at home, I had better make the most of my time with my kids…while lying on the bed.

Our house was robbed yesterday before lunch, all of our jewelries, some clothes, bags, my daughter’s rechargeable light with fan and radio, digital camera, cash, credit card, cellphone, two bags of clothes for undoy victims and Samsung flat t.v. were taken.

The person responsible for this is our daughter’s nanny, witness told me and the police that there was a blue green Honda CRV parked at our house, she was seen with two men, one tall and one heavy built wearing a beige baseball cap, this took place while me & my wife were at our workplace, only my mom and our 2 year old daughter were present at our house during the robbery.

Thank God they were not harmed or taken, to think we live in a very strict and secure village, these people are highly organized and have access to different villages.

Im sending you guys this message and picture so that u can avoid harm and possibly prevent this from happening again or be of help to the authorities to be able to arrest her and her accomplices, we know her as Marriane Bollongay (picture attached)

I exchanged text messages with D’rin and Roman regarding the net, Krus na Ligas’ brownout and baha, yearbook, and SmartBro. Jessa was complaining about the brownout and boredom; her roommate Kate wasn’t there to talk to. I tried calling Philip, but a system-generated voice enounced: The subscriber cannot be rich reached.

Her sister texted me, telling me Philip went home last night but went to school today, and he couldn’t be contacted since. I tried to reassure her by telling her maybe Philip was in the library, waiting for the rain to turn to drizzle or stop altogether. Philip isn’t exactly into the habit of constantly bringing an umbrella with him, and even the smallest of umbrellas wouldn’t fit in his bag. So what would? A pen and a folded bluebook? A calculator maybe? No, definitely not a notebook. “Notebooks are for elementary,” he once said. 

I got a message from the same number, this time it was Philip. He had to walk from Philcoa to Pantranco and beyond. Wow.

At least alam mo n how much your sister loves you.

I sent and received text messages from Riska and Kumi, my lab partners in Mat E 3. We had two formal reports to write, the experiment of one of which I was not able to perform, and in the other, I was only barely present. The tasks and parts were delegated to each of us, less than two days before the submission. And hey, since the weather was so cold, I have an excuse to not do my part. Nah, I’ll end it tomorrow.

I heard news about some kids in the University of Sto. Tomas not being able to go home due to the flood. Someone was being interviewed on the radio. He said he was trying to contact the mayor of Marikina for help. Marides C. Fernando. I know her, I’ve lived in Marikina ever since I decided I’m way too cool for a boarding house. 

There was a news about kids clamoring for Jollibee Philcoa to open so they could eat. And a follow-up news on the kids in UST, informing that the kids are in the 2nd Floor of Engineering Bldg.

The kids here in Diliman were hurdling through hunger (and were most probably with a parent/guardian), while there in Espana, they only have their teachers (and were most probably not caring at all about Jolly spaghetti or Yum! burger).

My yaya (she told me I used to call her mommy) when I was a toddler texted me and asked if I’m okay.

Okay lang ako.

I forgot to thank her. She was the first in the family to text me. It’s not like a contest or something. But I believe in especially rainy days anyone could make use of a nice hello or even a forwarded message from a family member. I normally would flood the room with lachrymal secretions pondering this, but so many good things have happened that I didn’t fell any pang.

I decided to text mom. I, for the first time, texted her a message that isn’t a forwarded or a default one. It wasn’t about a joke that involves a chemist, a biologist, and a physicist. It wasn’t about asking for a raise in allowance either.
