The annual month of NME Shockwaves shows have been announced for February 2o1o, with Miike Snow and Hadouken! two of the top names involved. The remaining slots will be taken by Simian Mobile Disco, Yeasayer, Girls and New Young Pony Club.

The shows will run up to the annual NME Awards held at the 02 Academy Brixton from the 24th, with more acts to be announced at a later date.

i first heard of YEASAYER from the compilation DARK WAS THE NIGHT.  it was their song entitled, “Tightrope“.  so fun.  i sent to dugan right away.  we had a dance party in my room with that song on repeat over and over again for hours with me and like 6 of my closest guy friends.

today…that song is still one of my faves.

as i was searching around PITCHFORK for new music and new music videos to get inspired by….YEASAYER released their music video of their new single, “Ambling Alp“.  it’s dripping with surreality.  i can’t embed the video here in my post…but i can link you to PITCHFORK’s review.  what do you think?  i likey alot.  YEASAYER is doing good things for my earholes and eyeballs.

Yeasyer released on of my favourite albums of last year, and in 2010 they release the follow-up ‘Odd Blood’. ‘Ambling Alp’ is the first taster and it suggests the band will be heading down a slightly different route. It’s hard to pin down the sound of the song, its definatley yeasyer but a little more charged with some cool electro sounds. I can’t wait to hear more…

Yeasayer has just released its video for one of my top played tracks of late “Ambling Alp“. It’s pretty fantastic, both song and video. Also check out their website for a free mp3 of the song. Enjoy.

Yeasayer always seems to trump every band, especially when it comes to innovative music videos. From the Corn-starched covered trinity to the Adam and Eve-esque locals to an all seeing metalic god. The strange list of imagery goes on and on. The only way you’ll understand…or not ever understand is to watch the “Ambling Alp” video.

The Odd Blood album comes out in 2010.

Jag var tveksam till låten i en tidigare post men nu har den satt sig och jag måste nog få till nått 12-stegs program för att överleva fram till albumet släpps.

Yeasayer pode não ser um nome muito conhecido, mas com um ótimo CD já lançado, o “All Hour Cymbals”, ele está se preparando para o lançar o segundo logo no começo do ano que vem, e pelo que promote nessa música, já coloquei na minha “watchlist”.

Não tenho muito o que comentar sobre Ambling Alp. É aquele tipo de musica pop que é estranha e extremamente divertida ao mesmo tempo; aquela que você não sabia, mas estava esperando por ela.

Umas batidas fora do ritmo, batuques alternados e muitos, muitos elementos eletrônicos, fazendo uma mistura estranha ao mesmo tempo muito agradável. É aquele tipo de música quando chega no refrão, te conquista, e depois disso, só melhora a cada ouvida.

Ampling Alp tem um pouco de tudo, e mal posso esperar pelo lançamento do novo CD do Yeasayer, Odd Blood, com lançamento dia 9 de fevereiro.

so i’ve been generally coy about posting on the latest slew of nsfw videos. more and more artists have been shameless about exposing their um, shame. from girls’ phallic microphone acts to the flaming lips’ wayne coyne baring all, it seems nudity is the new frontier and yeasayer plan to technologically and stylistically trump their forebears (get it? bares?) while not officially a video, or even containing more than 10 seconds of the actual song, yeasayer’s point and gawk method of watching nudity lets you really choose how perverse, or artful, you choose to be.

The guy who runs Moonscape is a friend of a friend. He has great taste in music and apparently he’s “really into pirating,” so the site is a really good resource for full albums.

Just in case you haven’t heard about the new Yeasayer album, Odd Blood, its coming out February 2010. They’ve done some really cool 360° interactive videos and their new single is available for free HERE. Oh yeah there are boobs and peens in those videos, so don’t watch them with your grandmum. I’ve always thought Yeasayer might be a band that will survive the exploitation and subsequent abandonment of its genre; they write really good shit.

O wybranych płytach już za chwilę na blogu.

Yeasayer has blossomed into quite an act. An experimental band with roots in Brooklyn, New York, Yeasayer is, in essence, an everlasting sing-along, and all are welcome to join. The music could be attributed to a kind of jungle-spun dreamscape. You lose yourself in this organic ebb and flow of entangled strings, percussion, and remarkably versatile vocals. Their debut album, All Hours Cymbals, came in 2007 with great reception. A few weeks ago they released a single from their much anticipated sophomore album, Odd Blood, which is due out Feb. 9th of next year.

Entitled ‘Ambling Alp’, the track is replete with timpani hits, bass drum thuds, and snare rebounds that only Yeasayer can make sense of. It’s backed by this sort of quickened hooting that gives a pace similar to that of Animal Collective. The vocals, expectedly impressive, are fun and inviting, of course. If you’ve yet to hear these guys, I put out some popular tracks from their first album below. For the new single, go to their website here where they have it for free. And check out the video below also, which features the band in Paris singing – probably not how you’d expect – one of the debut songs, ‘2080′, and their track ‘Tightrope’ from the compilation CD Dark Was The Night. Whichever way you go, you’re bound to find an authentic sound layered in a pots-and-pans-like improvisation that produces a natural ubiquitousness and communion about the room, or in whatever confines you may be. All things said, they’re one of the coolest groups out there.

In zwei Tagen habe ich die Möglichkeit, die Brooklyner von Yeasayer für das Online-Magazin Popcultures.de zu interviewen, parallel wird der Text natürlich auch an dieser Stelle erscheinen. Zwei Tage sind nicht viel Zeit und leider habe ich die auch nicht vollends zur Verfügungen, mir Fragen zu überlegen. Kurzum: Ich würde mich über Ideen eurerseits freuen und euch gleichzeitig die Möglichkeit geben, Fragen anzubieten, deren Antworten von  Chrtis Keating und Co. euch interessieren. so we’re finally getting to the fun fun fun fest material. you know us, we’re lazy and very prone to procrastination. i mean c’mon, we have jobs and vodka to tend to. we ended up not being able to make it into the festival until 4:30, so we missed about 4 and a half hours of opening bands which included the likes of vega, young widows and russian circles, which was a definite bummer – but goes hand in hand with festival antics and hustle. the recap’s are coming soon, folks. for now, here’s a recap of day one’s events via sunbear’s camera lens.

Sorry, I have to admit. I found the Yeasayer single “Ambling Alp” a little boring, made me think the necessity the track has of a remix. Since great minds think alike (ahah), Memory Tapes just released their perspective on the music and man, that’s a good perspective!

Desculpem, tenho de admitir. Eu achei o ultimo single dos Yeasayer, “Ambling Alp”, um bocado secante, fez-me pensar na necessidade que a música tinha de um remix. Como grandes mentes pensam da mesma forma (ahah), os Memory Tapes acabaram de lançar a perspectiva deles da música e c’a granda perspectiva!

It’s been a minute, but I’m back with my head filled to the brim with new sounds for your ears … yeeeeah, this earfull is going to make up for the past week that was absent from my posts. I’m sorry. No excuses here. Won’t happen again. Here ya go!!!

Nurses – “Caterpillar Playground” – I’m totally crushing on this song right now (along with a few others) but, this one is so unique I’m putting it in first place today because I want you to hear it … first. I love stuff that’s outside the box, ESPECIALLY music. So, in other words: I really really really have a big crush on this one.

The Shaky Hands – “Already Gone” – Even though the song has disheartening lyrics, it’s upbeat, so it kinda makes it happy. I like when songs trick you like that.

The Civial Wars – “Poison & Wine” – This song absolutely tears me apart inside. It’s instrumental and vocal progression is … perfect … a seamless transition from a solemn first verse to a passionate, emotional hook and back to a quiet close.  Not only is the song incredible, but the video is done fantastically, totally doing the song justice; honoring it’s emotion.

Yeasayer –  ”Ambling Alp” – Here’s the breakdown: you know I’m a Yeasayer fan already, but leaving my bias behind, this song absolutely rocks. The sounds, the sounds, the soundsssss! Makes my ears melt, in the best way. With a percussion that screams “SOOO EIGHTIES!!!!” and notes that fall in all the right places, OH! and a voice that’s so perfectly awkward, you get one of those songs that’s going to be one of “those songs”, catch my drift? Did I mention how great the hook and the bridge are? I didn’t? Well, they are. Great combination of resources and creativity. 20 stars for Yeasayer. Guarans you’re going to listen to this song more than once. It’s ok … go ahead.

O+s – “The Fox” – When I hear this song, I just want to lay down and look at something beautiful.  Or the celing on a cloudy day. I duno why. It’s dreamy, haunting, beautiful and best of all, simple.  Enjoy …

Faded Paper Figures – “North By Northwest” -There’s a Postal Servce vibe that I can’t shake, therefore I like it. That’s all.

Flyleaf – “Missing” – I peeped the new Flyleaf album whilst sifting through the other new ones out and besides their new single “Again”, this one caught my ears, too. Awesome hook, for sure – makes the entire song listen worthy, in my opinion.

Monsters of Folk – “Dear God” (Sincerely M.o.F.) – I think it’s the harp that does it for me in ths one. And the strings. And the guitar. Man, I like this one. Even though it’s slow, there’s a funk to it. A little soul goes a long way and the blusey influences laced between notes brings this song to another level.

Local Natives – “World News” – Remember when I promised you I’d get better audio of this song? I never break my promises. Here it is … you’re welcome.

Joy Williams – “Speaking A Dead Language” – The best word to describe this song: delicate. You can’t deny the sweet naïveté of this track. You also can’t help but love it.

Tegan and Sara – “The Cure” – Can I just say that “Sainthood” is a STELLAR album, please? Thanks. Tegan and Sara never let me down. “Sainthood”’s maturty is awesome both musically and lyrically. I chose to post this song only because I was humming it earlier. Is it just me or does “The Cure” sound like something The Cure would sing? Hmm … I like it.

Get Busy Committee – “My Little Razorblade” – I love The Knife. I love “Heartbeats” by The Knife. I love hip hop. Therefore, I love this song. Sick …

Claire and The Reasons – “Wake Up” (You Sleephead) – She’s got such a soothing voice … this one’s a definite pretty song … makes me wanna sleep. Go figure.

Kristina Train – “Spilt Milk” – OK, guys, I know … I know … I owe you a decent audio version of this song because honestly, this version doesn’t do Kristina Train’s amazing voice any justice. This is the title track to her debut album … she’s got some chords on her. forreals.

Hello Seahorse! – “Bestia” – Coming from Mexico City, Hello Seahorse!’s bilingual lead sings the entire album in Spanish. I love a mature-sounding-Latin-rooted-indie band.
