This video leaves me speechless and full of emotion at the same time everytime I watch it. It’s an old video and you all probably see have seen it hundreds of time (I’ve seen it thousands). Our generation needs to wake up and realize that change is possible. No ONE man can do it, but it’s gonna take EVERY man to achieve it.

I had a friend who became an environmental engineer. It’s not the weak fluff-laden PC course you’d think. He took several semesters of physics, biology, chemistry and engineering. Just before he did his senior thesis he confided something to me:

“The Emperor has no clothes, global warming is a sham.“

He had seen the data, he (and a few others on campus) agreed. Global warming is made up, just like global cooling and toher supposed man-made disasters. I agreed but told him that he could never state that out loud becuase the campus enviro-nut and many professors would crush him.

He was right of course: (just a sample of the links out there)

“The world has stopped getting warmer, defying the complex models that predicted anthropogenic global warming to continue until it reached crisis proportions”(Neptunis Lex)

Some people don’t get it. (Newsbusters)

jules crittenden has a good roundup of reaction in the press. They were climate change and envior wacky cheerleaders for years, now what are they going to do?

Even a climate change believer thinks that the e-mails are bad news.(Guardian Online)

Well, guess what, the very powerful have acted very stupid. Altering the facts to fit your views is not science. Yet they would crush free enterprise and economic growth because of their agenda. The only winners so far seems to be the loony left and neo-marxists. Green is the new red.

No I realise that pollution is bad. Yes. I. Get. It. But change the climate? As if humans have the power. An open secret has been that the world is recovering from a mini-ice age in the middle ages. Their may be other causes to global warming if it is occurring. The debate is far from settled.

Tell that to the left. Warming of the planet and melting oceans fit their idea of a harmful west. Resources need to be redistributed, technology needs to be restricted (unless your a wealthy elite in New York, London or LA). Disagree and you’re just a wealthy white man who wants to oppress the planet.

Why is there no debate? Why is dissent not tolerated? The BBC got the climate gate files but refused to cover them. Did a White House science adviser ridicule scientists who did not agree with global warming?

I’ve known solar physicists Sallie Baliunas and Willie Soon for a long time. I’ve published articles with Willie and enjoyed extensive communication. I was on advisory committees with them when Sallie suddenly and politely withdrew from the fray. I don’t know if the following events were contributing factors but it is likely.

Baliunas and Soon were authors of excellent work confirming the existence of the Medieval Warm Period (MWP) from a multitude of sources. Their work challenged attempts to get rid of the MWP because it contradicted the claim by the proponents of anthropogenic global warming (AGW). Several scientists challenged the claim that the latter part of the 20th century was the warmest ever. They knew the claim was false, many warmer periods occurred in the past. Michael Mann ‘got rid’ of the MWP with his production of the hockey stick, but Soon and Baliunas were problematic. What better than have a powerful academic destroy their credibility for you? Sadly, there are always people who will do the dirty work.
– Newsbusters quotes Canada Free Press.

In law, the famous adage goes, “When the facts are on your side hammer the jury, when the law is on your side hammer the judge, if neither is on your side hammer the table.”. THe Left has been hammering the table over and over again but we are the ones getting nailed.

I voted for Barack Obama and I worked hard campaigning to get him elected. I would do it again and I’m proud of the small contribution I made to achieve change.

But I’m not happy with the President’s strategy or performance when it comes to our nation’s response to global warming. After the jump I’ll share what I said on Climate Progress about it yesterday, and you can read Bill McKibben’s comment there too.

But first, let’s listen to what McKibben told Grist TV yesterday about it:

Yesterday on his Climate Progress blog, Joe Romm, reported on the White House’s attempt to spin Obama’s Copenhagen participation in a post he called, “Breaking – US Will Announce Target For Cutting Carbon Emissions Before Copenhagen“ He ended his piece with a comment on whether Obama will go to Copenhagen himself and wrote,

“He ought to go, and I expect he will.”

And here’s what I wrote in reply:

He ought to do a lot more than just go.
He ought to lead the way on this issue.

He ought to acknowledge that the USA is only 4% of the world’s population, but that we contribute 25% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions – and that number doesn’t even include all the emissions our companies outsource to be belched out in other countries. He ought to take responsibility for those emissions.

He ought to also acknowledge the damage we’re doing to the world’s most vulnerable nations with each day we continue to delay drastically cutting our GHG emissions.

And he ought to use his worldwide popularity and the media spotlight he enjoys to do the job reaching and teaching his audience the facts about global warming, generating the sense of urgency this issue demands.
Woulda, coulda, shoulda.

As the saying on the basketball court goes – “If ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ were raisins and nuts we’d all be eating Waldorf salads.”

“Wimpy and inadequate” is the apt description of United States action so far, which only looks good under Obama compared to the eight years of Bush, but the best we can do? Hardly. Not even close.

We need a Winston Churchill on this issue, and we needed him yesterday.

Expecting anyone else but President Obama to fill those shoes ignores who he is and where we currently are on the timeline.

It’s time for greatness and historic achievements. Doing the best under the circumstances no longer cuts it.

« Yes we can » – Barack Obama, slogan de sa campagne électorale, automne 2008

Obama Sides With Bush: No Rights for Bagram Prisoners

Hey! Remember the 2008 Presidential Election? The intensity, the rabble-rousing, the way that people were so directly affected to work for their chosen candidates? Well, color me included in that wave. Twice, if you will.

A poster that I designed and printed (my Vote! poster, below, or page 64 in your books!) to help get the word out about Barack Obama in the fall of 2008 was included in a fantastic new book called Design For Obama, published this November by the swell Taschen Books, edited & curated by Spike Lee & Aaron Perry-Zucker with an essay by design steward, Steven Heller.

2-color hand screenprinted poster, Vote! Click for more information or to purchase.

The book is culled from a collection of posters from around the world that were submitted to and featured on the Design For Obama website before the election of the United States 44th President. Designers interested in the election and wanting to express their take on the entire Obama campaign’s story sent in an amazing series of work. When I became aware of the site, I sent in my own poster, which had already been printed, and in turn I was blown away by the work of hundreds of others who had also been feeling similarly. But don’t take my word for it, here are some of the editors words about their book:

Design/ers for Obama was created when Design Observer essentially asked the question, “how can graphic designers best support Barack Obama?” Our answer ended up extending the question to cover visual communicators at all levels. In addition to supporting Obama for America we jumped at the opportunity to bring the spirit of grassroots style organizing and collaboration to poster design which, to us, meant not only forming communal bonds but sharing the fruits of our efforts equally and in such a way that anyone can enjoy and benefit from (because most of us do not own our own printing presses).

Design for Obama was created by Aaron Perry-Zucker, a senior studying graphic design at the Rhode Island School of Design, and was built by Adam Meyer, a senior studying industrial design at said school. This website was inspired and is supported by Design Observer.

Rohff -Hachek ! Mais de quoi tu parles ?
Kennedy – A tes souhaits.
Tu vas encore dire qu’on m’a volé mon Cayenne ?
Rohff ! Putain ! Tchicky R.O. Tchicky H 2 F !! Rohff le capi’chef !! Quand je me promène le gens bloquent et disent “Oh c’est Rohff !” ils me le rappellent quand j’oublie. mais toi t’as pas intérêt à oublier ! Jamais ! J-J-J-J-J-Jamais !!!!

Ali -Je me souviens avoir dit ça en effet.
Kennedy -Bah ouais gros.

Black kent – hein ?
Black kent – mon album s’appelle Yes I Kent en référence à mon nom.

Kennedy, A.K.A.

Booba -Salut, salam, shalom.
Kennedy –Parce que tu me pompes mes phases.

Somehow, it seems that every time I see a political bumper sticker it manages to anger me in some way. I’m not talking about the “I voted for (insert name of savior du jour here).” I’m talking about the little catch phrases. You know the ones. The ones that sound like they were coined by some failed political science major trying to impress their college professor.

Now, that’s not completely fair. I’m sure there are dedicated professionals that work diligently to come up with these, but I often question if these people think them through or at least get an outside source to look at it from a different perspective. I offer two examples.

“Dictators like an unarmed public.”

That may not be the exact wording, but I am confident that it captures the gist of the sticker. Let’s explore this sticker. On the surface it appears true, does it not? Dictators do not like a public that has the ability to challenge the authority of what is usually an already tenuous hold on the power they covet so much.

Now let’s take this to the next level. Given that most dictators rise to power through a coup d’etat or a similar grab for power, those same dictators were once part of the public. Beyond the fact that this is obviously quite hypocritical, it suggests that they once held the opposite belief. That is that the public should be able to bear arms (and in their case we’re not talking a shotgun and a revolver, we’re talking a mac 10 and a Russian made rpg).

To go a step farther, the point could be made that this sticker is associating dictators with the second amendment waving segment of the right wing. This makes the statement, “You can pry my guns from my cold dead fingers,” just a little more disturbing.

That doesn’t even mention that if that association is made, the sticker is essentially attacking the very demographic who produced it. Ain’t that a kick in the head.

Now, obviously, I am not advocating anything I just said. In fact I don’t even believe much of it. I am just trying to show how these things can be so easily manipulated. Since I hope to be an equal opportunity critic, “hater,” asshole, what have you, I will now pick a target that leans more to the left.

“Yes we did!”(Accompanied by the stylized image of President Obama)

No… No, we didn’t. Quite simply, no, we didn’t. Maybe it will be more clear if I state it this way: No, we havn’t. Does this person not get it? The slogan, “Yes, we can” had nothing to do with getting President Obama elected.Let me say that again: It had nothing to do with getting anyone elected! It was a platform for change! “Yes we can,” affect change. The important aspect of this being that it is a slogan that pushes the need for citizen unity in the resolve to make the necessary changes in order to better our society. I ask once again, though I think the answer is quite clear at this point: Does this person not get it?

I loathe sweeping generalization, but I will make one in this case. This is exactly what is wrong with America. Somehow, we have come to believe that doing our civic duty means delegating it to the person of our choice. Perhaps this is our own fault. Perhaps we have worked so hard to get people to exercise their right to vote that they believe that is all they have to do.

Whatever is the ultimate cause of the inaccurate idea behind this sticker, I’m sure my disapproval is quite obvious. I see this as a short sighted, lazy, ignorant and arrogant attempt to claim responsibility for an event that is far greater than the person who possessed this sticker. Moreover, the true meaning of the slogan was lost by their grab for some pathetic semblance of glory.

With all of my ranking and raving on this sticker, one might ask that if I’m so smart what is my suggestion for a better slogan. My suggestion for a better slogan… “Now, we can.”

That’s the view from the middle for the time being. Good night, and good luck.

With President Obama and the rest of the leaders of the world’s biggest polluting nations kicking the ball down the field on climate change and effectively pulling the rug out from under all of us who have been targeting the Copenhagen climate talks as the moment we must seize, our response must recognize the obvious.

Despite the historic gains we’ve made building the 350 movement across the planet in the past year, we have not captured the hearts and minds of the general public or the media.

We have the science and the scientists on our side, we have built a mighty coalition of activists, businesses, churches, schools and enlightened government representatives – but in the Age of Stupid, where cats who love cheeseburgers rule the Internet, and where polling both in the United States and in the United Kingdom show declining numbers of adults believe global warming is either man-made or a real threat, the sense of urgency is far greater for learning who the next winner of American Idol is than for switching to a new clean, green, carbon free economy. Go figure.

Scientists have been telling us for a couple of years now how scared they were about the gap between what they were discovering and reporting and what the public was understanding, accepting and believing. And the worse things have gotten in terms of the discoveries and the reports, ironically the wider the gap between reality and what the average man and woman on the street is grokking.

One thing has become abundantly clear to me through the work I’ve been doing as a community organizer on behalf of 350.org here in Southern California – we need a swift and massive public education campaign that builds rapid awareness, interest, appeal and action on behalf of our brand.

And the way we need to market and sell that brand is the same way successful politicians like Barack Obama sell themselves, the same way Guitar Hero, Viagra, iPods, Starbucks, Coca-Cola and Las Vegas make their brands impossible to ignore powerhouses.

Yeah, that’s right, we have a brand and it’s the only brand that can satisfy the greatest urges and needs mankind has: survival, continued propagation of our species and quality of life. That’s a damn fine “point of difference” as we call it in the marketing world.

So instead of spending so much time trying to earn political support from politicians and governments I think we need to turn our focus to recruiting the best marketing, sales and creative pros – many of whom are currently on the street, jobless, downsized due to cutbacks in consumer spending.

We need to employ these pros to use the same tools and tactics that have consumers living in fear of bad breath, body odor, dandruff, or being ridiculed for buying the wrong brand of computer, car or cell phone.

Policy takes forever, but markets, brands, trends and popular culture all turn on a dime – especially in the Internet era. New stars come out of nowhere and rocket to the top in months while legends and classics fall out of favor and off the radar screen just as quickly.

We need a worldwide, integrated marketing campaign to build sweeping awareness, interest and to drive climate change consumers to rapid action. And that campaign starts by filling that gap between what scientists know is happening right now and what the public is hearing and understanding.

We can’t wait for the media or anyone else to package and deliver this news and information for us, we need to put together our own teams of the best and brightest communicators on the scene today and we need to use the same tactics, the same language and leverage the same equity in the minds of consumers as the brands that currently fill their heads with slogans, positioning lines and reasons for believing.

Don’t get me wrong – we still need to continue all our grassroots efforts, but we need to do more than that. We need to reach and teach the masses. And the way we do that is to tell and then to sell.

And when it comes to selling the need to act and the solutions we need to act with, we all need to remember ABC –

A = Always

B = Be

C= Closing.

But don’t take my word for it:

Lenny voltar a jogar. Obina na reserva. Sacconi titular. Ortigoza titular. Jogar no 4-4-2.

A realidade do Brasileirão:

A prova é o Ronaldo.

- STJD: perseguem descaradamente algumas equipes. Beneficiam outras na mesma proporção.

- Nosso time não correspondeu. Pra mim o problema é o time.

=====

The President’s campaign theme was simple but effective because it found a receptive ear in the gene

The President’s campaign theme was simple but effective because it found a receptive ear in the general populace. The campaign placards simply said “Change” or sometimes “Change we can believe in.” He suggested one such change in the course of his victory speech. It was subtle and important. He described our nation’s timeless creed as “Yes we can.” A creed can be timeless only if varying political opinions, mores or traditions cannot change it, meaning no matter how much things change around and in us our belief in the what the creed says never changes. I suppose the president’s formulation cannot change. It is so general. It’s like saying: “We can change” or “Yes we are” or “Yes we will.” What we are left with is an amoral call to action, just like the omni-present, value-free, urge to embrace “change.” As if changing anything we can change is the tonic for America’s perceived ills. But this is not our timeless creed.

To set the record straight, our creed is not some general, emotive, affirmation; it is a statement conceived in principle and purchased with blood. It is the Declaration of Independence. This act of independence, expressed through a document dated July 4, 1776, cannot be changed or amended; it is truly timeless. The Declaration is the historical event which created our country. And to deny it is like a child denying it has parents. Our true creed is as different from the new creed as patriotic cries from airy feeling, sacrifice from good intentions, medicine from placebos. Let the inspiring Dr. King remind us of the core tenet of our Declaration: “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal.’” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Washington, D.C., August 28, 1963.

On the night of November 5, 2008 with all the world his stage, President Obama could have recited those heroic words of Dr. King. He could have inspired many with our true American creed. Indeed, our belief that all men are created equal is why people from all over the world want to come to our country. They want to believe in our creed even before becoming Americans, even before setting one foot here. They become Americans by their very desire for the freedoms we enjoy. They see America as the land of freedom and opportunity because of the principle of equality. They believe that everyone, no matter who they are or where they are from, has a fair chance to be happy. Those Declaratory words that surged through our Revolutionary parents and moved their minds and limbs to throw off the stiff yoke of England reach through time and beyond our shores to the farthest deserts and mountain reaches of earth.

Why didn’t the president follow the path of Dr. King? What is consistent between Dr. King and the Declaration is an acknowledgement of the natural law. This is the intellectual bond, or shall we say heritage that was passed from our Declaration to Frederick Douglass all the way to Dr. King, Supreme Court Justice Thomas and Dr. Alveda King, the niece of Dr. King, an outspoken proponent for the pro-life cause. Where does the president stand in this heritage? Outside of it. From the articulation of his campaign positions and goals and the adoption of a new American creed, it is clear that an understanding of the natural law is not the intellectual heritage of our new president. Rather, his heritage is one of pragmatic moralism, or more simply, relativism in pursuit of power. How else do we explain the urbane dismissal of the aborted born alive infant with the oh-so generous promise of a lonely comfort room but no comforting arms, no human touch for the defenseless, gasping human? The former Illinois state senator’s position was the product of intellect in service of the quest for power. (Welcome to the gentle barbarism of the progressive elite.) How else do we explain an agreement to sit down as if with equals those who would proclaim the deaths of millions of innocent Jewish lives as their national imperative? The answer is accomodation for the sake of power and position. And the past associations between our president-elect and various sophisticated ruffians are but another reflection of this feature of his intellectual heritage – these individuals promised access to political power and backing in corrupt Chicago. Such a heritage is not surprising. It lives and feeds on minds in our leading educational institutions, where teaching begins with a winking nod about searching for the truth and graduates with lettered disdain for the very concept of truth.

Which leads us to the tragic irony of our president. His election certainly is welcome and wondrous for it proclaims the end of effects of slavery. Yes his moral relativism leads us one step closer to an even more sinister form of slavery, one which results in the abolition of mankind. His vigorous embrace of embyronic stem cell research is no more and no less than the enslavement of one distinct human life unto his or her destruction for the benefit of another.

I am borrowing the phrase “abolition of man” from the brief and genius work by C.S. Lewis written in 1943 titled the same. The insight of Prof. Lewis was that man’s power over nature inevitably becomes some men’s power over other men. The starkest example of that is the technology of contraception which simply denies existence to a generation, or, through more precise techniques, selects whom in a generation should survive and whom should not. The timing of that book seems to be no accident. Shortly after World War II, it became clear that German scientists had energetically carried out their belief that some people were best used as experiments for the benefit of more deserving members of society. The categorization of “deficient” humans and the ghastly details of the experiments so meticulously recorded by that cruel regime are enough to shock even the 21st century mind.

Yet it turns out that these scientists were merely before their time and had not the technological advances to show the world in a more refined way the real benefit their philosophy could bring to the world. Their time has come. As the junior senator from Illinois, the president was a co-sponsor of the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2007, the effect of which would allow “excess” embryos from fertility treatments to be used in research. And let’s revisit the then-senator’s statement regarding an earlier piece of legislation he promoted in 2006: “Embryonic stem cells can be obtained from a number of sources, including in vitro fertilization. At this very moment, there are over 400,000 embryos being stored in over 400 facilities throughout the United States. The majority of these are reserved for infertile couples. However, many of these embryos will go unused, destined for permanent storage in a freezer or disposal. We should expand and accelerate research using these embryos, just as we should continue to explore the viability of adult stem cell use and cord blood use.” Sen. Barack Obama, Statement of Support for Stem Cell Research, Monday, July 17, 2006. The president supports the use of excess human life for the benefit of others.

Some philosophers or moralists will argue that this excess life is not a “person.” That is a semantic fog fit for the weak mind. Our scientific understanding of what happens at conception and through nourishment of the zygote shines through and dispels any fog, namely, that a unique, individual boy or girl comes about with all the distinguishing features of eye color, hair color, shape of nose, shape of ears, shape of feet, sound of laugh, sound of cough, sound of the future “I love you mama” . . . sound of life, ready to come to full blossom only through nourishment in the womb.

Yes we can . . . ? Let’s try: Yes we can – cure Alzeihmers through repeated experimentation with embryos. Or, why not hypothesize the following: Assume that our erstwhile scientists really believe that the most potent form of stem cells are in the late-term fetus. Now, since the aborted born alive are so much living waste, why not put that excess to use? Reformulated the creed is: Yes we can – cure Alzheimers through repeated experimentation with aborted born alive humans. There is no material distinction between the first and the second proposition. None at all. In fact, given the president’s focus on being efficient with “excess” human life, the second is almost required. Instead of a comfort room, we would mandate that a hospital administer death-causing agents so the born alive can be used in the research wing of that same hospital. And since medical poison might affect the cell tissues of the infant, what this will come down to is suffocation by a comfort pillow. Now that’s real change. Though not change we want to believe in.

The allure of the president’s new American creed is that it resonates with every American’s natural optimism. We are the “can-do” nation. Nations admire “American know-how.” So of course we like to hear and want to believe that we can overcome obstacles, we can together make real change for the good. But no one wants change at the expense of our true American creed: We believe that all men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with the unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. All have equal dignity. No man is deserving of slavery. And no man should be the tool of another.

Via Wired comes another essay in the endless argument against our high tech force.

Taking the Measure of a Slam-Dunk Weapons System

Robot war. It just couldn’t be cooler, could it? Especially if the only blood you spill is the other guy’s, since our “pilots” are flying those planes from thousands of miles away. Soon, it seems, the world will be a drone fest. In his first nine months, President Obama has authorized more drone attacks in the Pakistani tribal borderlands than the Bush administration did in its last three years in office and is now considering upping their use in areas of rural Afghanistan where U.S. troops will be scarce.

In Washington, drones are even considered the “de-escalatory” option for the Afghan War by some critics, while CIA Director Leon Panetta, whose agency runs our drone war in Pakistan, has hailed them as “the only game in town in terms of confronting or trying to disrupt the al-Qaeda leadership.” Among the few people who don’t adore them here are hard-core war-fighters who don’t want an armada of robot planes standing in the way of sending in oodles more troops. The vice president, however, is a drone-atic. He loves ‘em to death and reportedly wants to up their missions, especially in Pakistan, rather than go the oodles route.

–Drone Race to a Known Future
Why Military Dreams Fail — and Why It Doesn’t Matter
By Tom Engelhardt

Mr. Engelhardt starts here then goes on to try and breathe life into some dead cliches.

The Wonder Weapons Succeed — at Home

So why am I not excited — other than the fact that the drones are also killing civilians in disputed but significant numbers in the Pakistani tribal borderlands, creating enemies and animosity wherever they strike, and turning us into a nation of 24/7 assassins beyond the law or accountability of any sort? Thought of another way, the drones put wings on the original Bush-era Guantanamo principle — that Americans have the inalienable right to act as global judge, jury, and executioner, and in doing so are beyond the reach of any court or law.

And here’s another factor that dulls my excitement just a tad — if the history of air warfare has shown one thing, it’s this: it never breaks populations. Rather, it only increases their sense of unity, as in London during the Blitz under Winston Churchill, in Germany under Adolf Hitler, Imperial Japan under Emperor Hirohito, North Korea under Kim Il Sung, North Vietnam under Ho Chi Minh, and of course (though we never put ourselves in such company, being the exceptions to all history), the United States after 9/11 under George W. Bush. Why should the peoples of rural Afghanistan and the Pakistani borderlands be any different?

Really? “round the clock” bombing hurt the Germans so bad their air force stopped flying. Not the morale but the INDUSTRY was destroyed. Towards the end of the war, their aircraft were made of wood and scraps. Same with Japan. It was the atomic bomb that forced them to end the war, their military was reduced to meeting the allies with sharpened bamboo sticks on the beaches of Japan.

The Viet Cong and North Vietnam were aided and abetted by the USSR. Without the flow of arms, technical know how, intelligence and surface to air missiles, North Vietnam would have folded. They LOST the Tet offensive. America lost the will to fight due to losses (fueled by Russian aid). Iraq both times did not have that aid. And got their brains beat out both times.

Of course, you know the results of this sort of magical thinking about wonder weapons (or technologies) and their properties just as well as I do. The atomic bomb ended nothing, but led to an almost half-century-long nuclear superpower standoff/nightmare, to nuclear proliferation, and so to the possibility that, someday, even terrorists might possess such weapons. The electronic battlefield was incapable of staving off defeat in Vietnam. That impermeable anti-missile shield never came even faintly close to making it into our skies. Those “smart bombs” of the Gulf War proved remarkably dumb, while the 50 “decapitation” strikes the Bush administration launched against Saddam Hussein’s regime on the first day of the 2003 invasion of Iraq took out not a single Iraqi leader, but “dozens” of civilians. And the history of the netcentric military in Iraq is well known. Its “success” sent Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld into retirement and ignominy.

Huh, MAD (mutually assured destruction) kept the Cold War cold. Would he have liked WWII to be come WWIII? Nuclear proliferation is the result of humans wanting to kill each other. India did their bomb on their own. North Korea may have had some help, Pakistan did theirs on their own. So did China. The USSR stole nuclear secrets. We killed the Rosenburgs for their crime in aiding the USSR and making the world a more dangerous place.

The GAO, in the report cited, liked to claim bombs carried by airplanes that didn’t fly (bad weather, mechanical problems etc.) as dropped. Donald Rumsfeld left as SecDef because of the insurgency after the war. We won that one not just with the surge, but by air power and our high tech advantage. The Sons Of Iraq would not have succeeded if it were not for US military might backing them up. Contrawise, the insurgets have had help from Iran, Al Queda and other evil doers. Not enough to save them, just enough to break our hearts.

True, Reagan’s impermeable shield was the purest of nuclear fantasies, but the “high frontiersmen” gathered and, taking a sizeable bite of the military budget, went on a decades-long binge of way-out research, space warfare plans and commands, and boondoggles of all sorts, including the staggeringly expensive, still not operational anti-missile system that the Bush and now Obama administrations have struggled to emplace somewhere in Europe. Similarly, ever newer generations of smart bombs and ever brighter missiles have been, and are being, developed ad infinitum.

Really? My career field is in missile defense. We do what you call impossible everyday. Critics keep insiting that the system wont work or that our enemies are too dumb to build missiles that can hit us. Or they argue that terrorists will sneak a bomb past our borders. Now they try to have it every which way but lose. They won’t lest us strengthen our borders, now will they lest us build anti-missile systems. Nor do they believe our intel.

Our weapons work. Not the way politicians want them to, but they do work. Civilian deaths? It’s called war for a reason. Sadly terrorists and other scum surround themselves with innocent people. We don’t attack we’re cowards. We hit them and we are cruel. Well, they want cruel, and they admit that they love death more than we love life.

Mr. Engelhardt goes on to lament the monies spent on drones. Classic hippe arguments that don’t hold water. Every dollar spent on our military brings back civlian returns and makes sure that people are free to read this blog and Mr. Engelhardt’s too. We must fight them. We care about innocent lives and grieve their loss. The enemy does not. Their bloodlust knows no bounds. Well our weapons have a longer reach and bigger punch. Too bad for them.

The last paragraph is a risible mention of the Terminator movies. *facepalms* In the real world American Soldiers, Marines, Sailors and Airmen risk their lives. Drones help save our people, innocent civilians and our allies.

To hell with the enemy.

Drones are tools nothing more.
