Mai Yoshimura là một cô gái năng động, lạc quan và thích lý tưởng hóa cuộc sống. Bước vào trung học, Mai dự định sẽ tìm một cậu bạn trai càng sớm càng tốt. Trong những ngày đầu tiên, Mai trông thấy anh bạn cùng lớp Sen Ishigaki, một chàng trai rất “cool” về tất cả mọi mặt, và vấn đề duy nhất ở anh ta là việc biểu lộ cảm xúc. Tuy nhiên cô quyết định chọn Sen, dù anh có không ít con gái theo đuổi. Cô kiên trì giữ vững tình cảm của mình mà không hề biết rằng vẻ mặt lạnh lùng của Sen là do một cô gái khác gây ra.

Nét vẽ rất quen phải không ^^? Yoko Maki chính là tác giả của manga rất được yêu thích Aishiteruze Baby. Câu chuyện lãng mạn Atashi wa Bambi này xoay quanh tam giác tình cảm với ba đỉnh Mai, Sen và Yaezou. Với nét vẽ thanh mảnh quen thuộc, Maki-sensei đem đến cho những ai yêu thích shoujo manga thể loại học đường một hương vị khá đặc trưng của tình cảm trong sáng giữa những cô cậu học trò mới lớn.

Atashi wa Bambi có bầu không khí sôi nổi, trẻ trung của trường học. Những vướng mắc, rắc rối rất tự nhiên đã được các bạn trẻ giải quyết theo cách riêng của mình. Bạn sẽ yêu mến Mai, một cô gái thẳng thắn, luôn chân thành và trung thực với tình cảm của mình, hay sẽ nghiêng về Yaezou, cậu con trai bề ngoài tưởng chừng mạnh mẽ, hay đùa, nhưng mỗi khi đụng phải những chuyện liên quan đến Sen thì lại bối rối ? Hay bạn sẽ thông cảm với cả hai, vì rằng sự cuốn hút của Sen là không cưỡng lại được ^^ ?

Ngoài những “sự cố” rất dễ thương và hồn nhiên của tuổi mới lớn, Yoko Maki còn cho độc giả thấy rằng những người bạn trẻ đều biết suy nghĩ. Và dù đúng dù sai, họ đã can đảm bộc lộ suy nghĩ ấy để hiểu nhau hơn và duy trì những mối quan hệ tốt đẹp. Trong cuộc sống, sự chia sẻ là điều vô cùng quan trọng. Có thể tính cách của Mai và Yaezou thật trẻ con, nhưng họ không phải là trẻ con. Đứng trước tình cảm đầu tiên của mình, Mai thật sự đã cố gắng và luôn giữ nụ cười trên môi. Còn Yaezou, cậu sẽ làm gì để đối đầu với nỗi sợ hãi, rằng liệu Sen có thay đổi khi biết tình cảm cậu bạn thân dành cho mình bấy lâu nay?

Một điều rất dễ nhận thấy của phong cách Yoko Maki là những manga về hoc đường của cô đều rất nhẹ nhàng, nữ tính và luôn có tuyến nhân vật cá tính. Nội dung truyện không quá phức tạp sẽ làm bạn cảm thấy thoải mái. “Cuộc sống” được cô thể hiện thông qua những diễn biến đơn giản, và chỉ cần một chút của “đơn giản” ấy cũng đủ làm một người thay đổi. Nếu bạn đã từng đọc và yêu thích Aishiteruze Baby, tại sao lại không thử truyện ngắn Atashi wa Bambi?

Truyện xoay quanh nhân vật trung tâm Keito Aoyama, từng là một diễn viên nhí rất nổi tiếng, nhưng vì một tai nạn mà rút lui khỏi sự nghiệp của mình, đồng thời cũng rút mình khỏi cả các quan hệ xã hội bình thường. Cô nhốt mình lại trong căn phòng riêng, cho tới năm 16 tuổi vẫn cứ sống ngày qua ngày một cách buồn chán và trống rỗng, không tiếp xúc với ai, không ăn cơm với cả gia đình, coi sống là một việc chán nản và vô nghĩa.

Rồi một cách tình cờ số phận run rủi cô tới học viện El Listion – một ngôi trường tự do dành cho những học sinh cũng gặp khó khăn với việc tìm ra một nơi cho riêng mình như cô. Như vậy là cuộc sống của cô đã rẽ sang một hướng mới, cô sẽ đi trên nó bằng một thái độ như thế nào đây?

Nhận định riêng:

Kamio Youko quả là biết cách làm người đọc ngạc nhiên.

Cô dường như không để lại chút lăn tăn gì với tác phẩm Hana Yori Dango trước đó cùa mình mà đến với Cat Street với một thái độ và ý tưởng mới mẻ. Vẫn gói gọn đối tượng nhân vật trong độ tuổi trung học thôi, nhưng Kamio Youko đã tạo hình được những tính cách không cầu kì nhưng vẫn đủ chiều sâu và cá tính, không lẫn vào Hana Yori Dango một chút nào mà hoàn toàn có đủ khả năng đứng thành những nhân vật độc lập.

Nội dung cũng không hề lặp lại. Những tổn thương tâm lý từ nhỏ và hậu quả của chúng trở thành đề tài khai thác lần này. Lần lượt qua từng chương truyện, độc giả theo dõi quá trình tâm lý bị tổn thương của Keito Aoyama và cách cô đối mặt với nó. Trốn chạy, bỏ mặc là lựa chọn của phần lớn những đứa trẻ không thể tìm thấy nơi mình thuộc về, nơi mình có thể được hiểu và chia sẻ. Keito cũng thế, cô chọn phó mặc cuộc sống hơn là tìm cách chống trả lại nó. Bởi thế mà những chương đầu của Cat Street phủ một bức màn đen mỏng, dường như tuyệt vọng, dường như bức bối.

Rồi sau đó, như người đọc có thể đoán được, là một hướng đi mới mà Keito đã tìm thấy. Cái thú vị bây giờ là chứng kiến Keito bắt đầu thực hiện những quyết định và lựa chọn mới của mình. Phải nói là trong cuộc sống “trốn chạy và từ bỏ” chính là phương án dễ thực thi nhất. Vì vậy bất kì một lựa chọn nào khác đều trở thành một nỗ lực lớn, và từ vol 2 trở đi của Cat Street, chính là câu chuyện về sự nỗ lực của Keito Aoyama, và cả những người khác nữa, vượt ra khỏi bốn bức tường tự ngăn cách chính mình với xã hội bên ngoài. Họ học cách mở lòng, họ học cách cười, cách nói. Họ học cách để sống.

Không thể nói Cat Street là một tác phẩm xuất sắc, nhưng nó là một tác phẩm được viết tốt. Cat Street có hướng đi cụ thể, có những nhân vật biết nói lên suy nghĩ của mình. Nét vẽ cũng đẹp hơn những tác phẩm cùng mẹ trước đây rất nhiều, vì thế mà càng gây ra hứng thú hơn với những độc giả đã quá quen với Kamio Youko.

Bạn không biết Kamio Youko? Bạn không biết Hana Yori Dango? Cũng không có gì quan trọng. Cat Street có thể thuyết phục bạn bằng chính sức của mình.

Took a while to get round to taking these pictures. I got some on Friday, but the distance shots were naff. Then when I got home from uni on Friday there was a large box waiting for me! A mini photo studio. Only cost ~£18 and came with a light box, 2 lights, camera stand, and 4 different colours of fabric. So I’ve been messing around with it, still need to get practice using the lights etc.

Anyway, I had been looking for a Yoko figure for a while. I really liked the initial previews of the Bounty Hunter version of her by Alter; but then when she got painted… . This one then caught my eye when browsing AmiAmi’s Japan site (a few weeks before they launched the international one). I looked on eBay for her but couldn’t find anything. But luckily AmiAmi saved me and I got her direct.

As people have been saying, she doesn’t really look like Yoko. At least not like all the other Yoko figure out there just now. Personally though I think she looks great. Well worth buying and adding to my collection.
The first wave of preview shots look nothing like this finished version, so maybe take another look if you dismissed this figure based on those older pictures. You can get her direct from AmiAmi here.

Some close ups. There are no visible join lines on her body, and her tanned skin looks really smooth.

I love her facial expression. Cute

There’s no moving parts on this figure – well you can force her belt away from her black short shorts.

Her base just comes with 1 peg that connects to her foot. She seems stable enough; and quite light which will reduce the chance of leaning.

The only thing that bugs me about this figure is the tan lines. If there was a tan line-less version I would have went for that one. But at least the tan lines are accurate. Her right arm is paler higher up where her sleeve would be, and her left hand is pale where her glove would be.

Overall I really like this figure. She might not be the most exciting or customisable figure I own, but she’s still a great addition.

When Armor Crafting, welding cement is poisonous to eyes, skin and when inhaling! But it is necessary if you want to weld ABS together!

Velcro and Super Glue are also ur best friends!

I saw this figure a while back before it was released and yesterday a friend of mine was in LA and asked if I was looking for anything…and here we are, another $110 out the door.

Seriously, WordPress really kills the quality of my images. Look at this difference between my computer and my blog. So I re uploaded all of the pictures to Flickr. Much better now.

I don’t do this as a major [my love is computers] or anything. I haven’t went to school for it; I taught myself. I know I’m still a novice and everything, I don’t need anyone to tell me that. So now that I know this slideshow for WordPress actually works. I can add more to it. I think is the safest way and easiest way to show my designs. I have been looking for a Yoko figure for a while, and I stumbled across this Yoko figure by AmiAmi which caught my attention. However at the time she was exclusive to the AmiAmi website which was still Japan only. Luckily though with the recent change I was able to buy her .

Here she is. Not the most accurate Yoko figure out there, but still amazing. I collected her from Parcel Force last night, so here’s some pictures with flash.

So while Yoko and Pixel Maritan were playing around in their sandbag fort, thinking NOTHING could go wrong with the firepower they were packing, the didn’t notice someone sneaking up from behind an upturned Zaku military mug.

At the moment I’m sipping coffee at my desk surrounded by Nendoroids so I figured I’d cook up this scenario since the primary reason I got Pixel Maritan is to be the other half of this gun-rage duo I had pictured in my mind before. As I mentioned before, Yoko is using one of the faces of Nendoroid Kyouka. I’ll have three more gun-wielders in the form of Canaan, Alphard and Ein so my office desk should see more action. For the meantime though, it’s Gloomy livening things up on the desktop.

I recently found a decently-priced 1/8 Kyouka Midarezaki figurine and I’ve already made arrangements to acquire it PRIMARILY for the mini-Kyoukas that come with the figurine. I had passed on an item almost a year ago that I had seriously wanted to own: WonFes Miku. Now, I’m not going to let this other one slide. It’s not an exclusive but it’s quite a rarity now.

So what’s on your purchase/pre-order list right now?

It was 10 months ago that Obama was sworn into office, billed as the best thing to happen to the U.S. since Jack Kennedy. Hope, Charm, Vitality – a fresh approach to governing – were all promised.

That night began to reveal an unfortunate truth: having reached a pinnacle on the day he was elected, Obama’s popularity and relationship with the American people had nowhere to go but down. That’s a difficult adjustment to make, and is reminiscent of the apocryphal story about the obsessed fan and her friends who worshipped and followed the Rolling Stones. One night, the fan finally got to spend the evening with Mick Jagger. After she emerged from the hotel the next morning, her friends asked her how it went.

“Well,” she said, “he was alright. But he’s no Mick Jagger.”

Now, the Obama dream is over, as America realizes that the President is, alas, no Barack Obama.

President Barack Obama plans to announce in next year’s State of the Union address that he wants to focus extensively on cutting the federal deficit in 2010 – and will downplay other new domestic spending beyond jobs programs, according to top aides involved in the planning.

His presidency has been hobbled by an overreach of historic proportion.  With most of his first year in office devoted to pursuit of the Public Option, aka Single Payer, aka Socialized Medicine – the president’s political capital has been spent. The White House is now preparing for a year of damage control.

Obama has spent more money on new programs in nine months than Bill Clinton did in eight years, pushing the annual deficit to $1.4 trillion. This leaves little room for big spending initiatives.

Had he sought health care reform based on trying to fix the problems that everyone can agree on, he might have gotten it passed over the summer. He could have been moved on to other of his Bolshevik dreams – immigration reform, cap and trade, even card check, the most destructive proposal of all.

“Democrats have to reassure voters we are not being reckless,” said a Democratic official involved in the planning. “The White House knows this and that’s why we’ll be hearing a lot about reducing the deficit early next year. Democrats owned this issue for the past four years and cannot afford to cede it to Republicans now.”

How quickly things have changed. From Kennedy to Carter in 10 months, the Obama Presidency will spend next year trying to minimize just how badly Democrats will be crushed in next November’s mid-term elections so that he can better enjoy his last two years in office. Will he even dare to propose anything on his wish list next year?

Democratic lobbyist Steve Elmendorf says the White House focus on deficit reduction could easily kill the cap-and-trade effort. “I think this means cap-and-trade has to go to the backburner,” he said.

The potential damage done, however, goes much deeper than to just Obama. We know that liberalism is a minority belief system in the country – recent Gallup numbers reveal that just 20% of voters self-identify as liberal, half as many as those who call themselves conservative. Yet, liberals are running the government.

Put simply, Obama has misread his mandate. Perhaps he thought he was elevated to pass health care – they loved it in Iowa! – but in fact it was the economic crisis that got him elected, is now our national preoccupation, and will be the solution of which (or lack of one) that determines whether he’s re-elected.

How do Democrats win elections? Because voters are under the mistaken belief that this is Jack Kennedy’s party – sharing traditional American values. With liberals in full control of the government there can be no mistaking reality – in poll after poll, we see ony Democrats supporting the President, with independents joining Republicans in their opposition.

Now that we, as a nation, have awakened from our post-election, post-racial dream state, we’ve begun to notice that our president may not be much interested in being a chief “executive,” given that he’s never run anything before or expressed the slightest inclination to do so. He has big ideas, to be sure, but that’s only a small part of the job. The hard, nitty-gritty labor of figuring out how government can actually work better – the operative word is “governing” – seems to hold no appeal for him.

Americans have been made nervous by Obama. All the pretending about not knowing Jeremiah Wright or Bill Ayers, about not really believing in redistributive policies, about attacking the undo influence of special interests over our government, just don’t wash anymore.

Obama seems to have forgotten all the stuff he proclaimed in the campaign about a new type of non-divisive presidency, even though that promise of bipartisanship was the facet of his candidacy that appealed the most to independents. Of course, the Republicans have made bipartisanship difficult. But he was the one in the campaign who claimed he could deal in a new way with those across the aisle – in contrast with his primary opponent, Hillary Clinton, who once called that opposition “the vast right-wing conspiracy.”

The nation now has a chance to link Democrats to their true legacy – to the destruction of our cities, institutional racism, bad education, to crippling debt caused by unaffordable social programs, to a partnership with unions that has crushed municipalities and states, not to mention the sadistic strangling of GM and Chrysler.

More Americans now say it is not the federal government’s responsibility to make sure all Americans have healthcare coverage (50%) than say it is (47%). This is a first since Gallup began tracking this question, and a significant shift from as recently as three years ago, when two-thirds said ensuring healthcare coverage was the government’s responsibility.

Many people have wondered aloud if the country will ever recover from the socialism that Obama will usher in. Thanks to his own mistakes, his ability to affect that destructive influence, beyond health care, has been minimized.

The question now is – Will his party ever recover from Obama?

It’s the first and the only Nendoroid from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann series. I’d expect to see Nia coming in Nendoroid form too, but how long do I have to wait?

Nothing much to say really .. among the October loot are Figma Seto Sun, Figma Drossel/Fireball (yes .. another one, and the previous one was a broken one. Soon to be replaced by Hobby Search), Goodsmile Saber Lily PVC, Nendoroid Yoko, and a Goodsmile Midarezaki Kyoka & Mini-Kyoukas (PVC Figure). Since i have new guests in the house who are not familiar with Otaku culture, its been hard to get motivated, since i have to limit myself to being a mortal. Humans tend to fear what they do not understand anyways!

Only thing that i am waiting thru the mail now, would be the replacement Drossel figma and the Konata Cosplay Haruhi figma, limited edition. Will be setting up my TK armor soon, when my home has become more .. safer and less populated!! Until then, i will be getting advice from my fellow troopers on the TAG forum.

Just slightly older than my mother, Yoko Ono continues being fabulous and creative. Great article profiles her life (school with imperial family members), haiku writer at 4 and a half years old, conceptual musician and then artist. With son Sean Lennon as producer, she’s just released a new album, “Between my head and the sky.”

And, as the photo attests, she’s not shy about revealing some decolletage!
