Supongo que todos conocen la canción “Right Round” de Flo-rida. Bueno la cosa es que el coro está totalmente copiado con ritmo y todo de la canción “You spin me round” de una banda británica de los 80’s llamada Dead or Alive. Para que lo noten, aquí tenemos el coro de Flo-rida que dice:

“You spin my head right ’round, right ’round. When you go down, when you go down down.”

Y el coro de Dead or Alive:

“You spin me right ’round, baby right ’round like a record baby, right ’round ’round ’round.”

Entodocaso todo caso ambas canciones son nada que ver una de la otra, pero se nota claramente el plagio de coro. Pueden ver los vídeos más abajo para compararlas, pero el vídeo de arriba es el cover de Dope de la canción de Dead or Alive. Dope no tiene video oficial de esta versión, así que puse uno en el que hacen un mix de otros videos del grupo.

Dope es un grupo formado a finales de los 90 de la onda nu metal. Los descubrí hace poco, y las canciones que más me gustan hasta ahora son “Addiction” y el cover de ” You spin me round”

Es que la versión de Dope en verdad es demasiado buena!. Y aunque la letra no es exactamente igual a la original, osea, es igual en su mayoría, pero con excepción de una que otra frase tergiversada.

Como cuando al principio en la canción original dice:

“Yeah I, I got to know your name. Well and I could trace your private number baby“ (Sí, llegue a conocer tu nombre. Bueno y podría buscar tu numero privado”

Y en el cover dice : ” I don’t wanna know your name. And I, do want your private number, baby. (No quiero saber tu nombre. Y, sí quiero tu numero privado)

La verdad es que conocí primero el cover de Dope antes de la canción original de Dear or Alive, y al escuchar el coro inmediatamente lo reconocí, pero supuse que Flo-rida se la había copiado a ellos. Después al hacer un par de investigaciones me di cuenta de la existencia de la verdadera versión original, que en verdad era demasiado conocida!. Que pava!.

Bueno aquí esta el video de Dead or Alive, y abajo está la canción de Flo-rida que al parecer no tiene video porque no lo encontré.

Renovando post despues de andar haciendo corages y reanimandome con cosas pendejas jeje.

Pues si, “Ahi para la otra joven”, casi casi me dijeron eso aca en el trabajo, gobierno estatal es una mamada, que son unos hijos de puta tacaños, porque los infelices me deben mes y medio de salario (chingue su madre secretaria de finanzas); por lo cual con mi selecto y recatado vocabulario me dispuse a reclamar que ayer no me llegó mi pago, y me respondian con el clasico “ah si te va a llegar tu no te awites” a lo cual yo reclamaba amablemente con “si, ha de ser hasta el final del otro pinche mes”, y recibía una respuesta de “antes di que la licenciada (la jefa) te hizo paro y te tramitó ese apoyo y te van a dar más dinero”, respondido después con mi finura de comentario de “si, pero pinche apoyo ni llega, asi que ni me digan mamadas de que me están apoyando”, con su respectiva réplica de “no te awites Carlos, de todos modos te va a llegar una pinche lanota tu no digas nada” a lo que siguió mi tan elocuente y con todo respeto comentario de “pues si, pero mientras que? yo aqui de pendejo, hasta creen que trabajo por gusto,yo vine aqui por otra cosa, no por pinches promesas, de luego te llega tu paga”, seguido de una huida antes mis reclamos; esto me hizo reconocer 2 cosas:

1.- Nunca podré trabajar en gobierno, soy demasiado respondón, valemadres y que no se deja de nadie aunque tengan más rango o nivel que yo

2.- Gobierno es una mamada, y se harán pendejos infinidad de veces hasta que no te quejes y los hagas sufrir como se merecen o les juegues igual de feo (obviamente aplicaré las 2), así que empieza mi huelga silenciosa, y aumentar mi valemadrismo en vista del éxito obtenido en la paga.

Claro después de tanta amabilidad mia, me estuvieron arreando en la tarde, pero hice lo que me pidieron, y más para su sorpresa, demasiado rapido y bien, para salirme de una manera furtiva de la oficina jeje. A que educado soy.

Pasando eso, ya después se me pasó el corage, al final de cuentas me los he de chingar jeje pero bueno.

Y como ya es tradición, pondré otra curiosidad mia, para que me vean que me dejo de todo, el martes me dejé delinear los ojos y hasta poner una diadema con un moñito (y luego que porque andan diciendo que soy puto) jaja, pero naa sólo simplemente me dejé (suele pasar que de repente me valga y me deje, obvio no me dejaría violar jaja), para que vean lo que me hicieron XD (obviamente no es la foto donde traigo la diadema, digo, soy valemadres pero no pendejo ) jaja bueno ahi opinen y aclaro, recorté la foto aja, pero es que sino no me veo gay, y esa es la intención de mi autoburla, que vaya que disfruto haciendolo, es sano reirse de uno de vez en cuando para desestresarse.

Como el chiste o lo gracioso de este post, les diré que se me pegó una canción, que se llama “You spin me round” que es de los 80’s, y vaya que le han hecho muchos covers, a pesar de la naturaleza gay de la canción,incluso Marilyn Manson le ha hecho cover, para que vean si es o no pegajosa la canción, al menos yo la escuché con Gigi d’Agostino y me gustó, pero más esta versión de Gemini Five; y aclarando, esto no me hace gay pero si es pegajosa la tonadita

Asi que ahi está por si no se la creían, y si me dicen homosexual, ni madres!! no soy,y les  diré una frase que decia mi amigo El Pollo que iba así : “A mi no me digas homosexual, pendejo, yo soy heterosexual, pero con amplios criterios, que es muy diferente”  jajaja a ver si le entienden

Dope – You Spin Me Round (like a record)

One of Best Boy’s posse sent me this picture the other day and all I could think was at least he wasn’t in the driver’s seat while filming the pilot for a reality show. Knowing him – he’d try if he needed to.  Doing a million things at once – that is what he does.

Back in Spain during the earliest years of his fun with academia, there was about an 18 month span when he and Shop Girl attended The British School of Aragón where the uniforms were little gray trousers/skirts, maroon jumper (that’s a sweater – but you should know that by now) sporting a huge navy blue “B” – like the size of the letter on a letterman’s jacket – on the front.  As the dutiful Mom, I would cross the span of our neighborhood and wait for them to descend the steps of the school bus (that looked more like tour buses than the yellow and black things that would come to mind) after nearly an hour of post-school urban trekking.

Of course the first words out of my mouth were, “Did anything fun happen today?”  He’d usually just mutely shake his head but that utterance from me was all it took to prime Shop Girl’s pump before the gush of who-did-what-to-who-and-Maria-had-two-new-barrettes-and-Ignacio-stole-my-candy-and…I’d start to hear the whaaawhaaawhaa like Charlie Brown’s mom’s voice over the phone.  The difference between the two is that one lives it all on the outside and the other on the inside.

Looking at that photo of him mega-tasking, I ask if it is any wonder that he has migraines.  A few weeks ago he got a referral to a pain clinic looking to get accepted into their headache program.  The examining doctor said that he’s never seen someone carry so much tension in his neck, back and shoulders as Best Boy.  Hummmm-there’s news worth the co-pay. Of course, today’s mail informed him that insurance wouldn’t cover any of the 12 scheduled visits so he’s just left with a pain in the neck (head) and ass.  This never helps my cause to get a guy that hates anything medical to try and seek treatment.  So much for that attempt.  No more pain clinic – no more good physical therapy and biofeedback.  I love insurance.  Best Boy doesn’t exactly have $4000 to cover the out-of-pocket expenses since they allow him TWO WHOLE VISITS A YEAR.  Moving on…

When this tiny black and white console TV graced Billy’s living room, the plate spinners on the Ed Sullivan show fascinated me as a little girl.  There’d be that one plate on the far end that would enter into a precarious wobble going slower and slower till it was about to fall and crash into a million pieces.  The spinner would do an Inspector Gadget move, throw his arm out and give that long stick a wiggle when balance was instantly maintained in the universe with only nanoseconds to spare.  Timing – it’s all about timing.

There were too many things I was juggling on the calendar in the next few weeks and I was setting myself up for a crash burn. Today I made some phone calls – shifted things around and all the plates are still spinning.  It helps me to take a step back and really look at all the plates to decide what really needs to happen when, before I get myself into a total frantic mess trying to do too much.

New dates for the basement work at the Mrs.’ place:  end of September.  I was really looking forward to having it all over and done with but August suddenly has me driving to Nashville for a week and then attending four or more baby showers on different weekends – so September it is.  Spin baby spin.

There’s out of the control sampling on the radio these days sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t.  There’s goodbye by Kristina Debarge that samples Na na na na hey hey hey goodbye.  I actually like this song.  The sample enhanced the meaning of the song and in general improved it.

Then there’s Sugar by Flo Rida that samples I’m blue (da ba dee) that kind of reminded me of Echo and the Bunnymen’s Lips like Sugar.  I thought the song was strange and uninventive.  I think that if your going to sample someone’s music use it effectively and don’t copy the song or combine other musicians songs with it, because that is uninventive.  Not to mention that Flo Rida has already used you spin me round in his song Right Round.  Can he think of a song completely on his own?

7. Cameo – Candy

This song is border-lining old school but is from the same era non-the-less. This video could not be embedded onto my blog page, so you will have to click the youtube link to watch. I find this video to be extremely comical, but I like it, and I love the song. I don’t think there has been an old school jam I have been to yet that has not had this song on their rotation. The highlight of this video? His red patent-leather jock strap I would have to say (lol, kidding).  Happy listening!

8. Patrick Swayze – She’s like the Wind

Okay, my error. This does not really constitute as retro, but how could I not include this song in the 80s top ten??? This song is an 80s classic. Patrick Swayze is one dude who can sing and act. Can’t say the same for many (clear throat).

9. The Clash – Rock the Casbah

The Clash, an awesome retro group from the 80s…this happens to be my favorite hit by the Clash. This is a song I can listen to over and over and over again.

10. Dead or Alive – You Spin me Right Round

This video is classic! 

When rapper Flo Rida originally burst on the scene (his song Low was featured in the award-winning-worthy Step Up 2 The Streets), I wasn’t a fan.  I thought the song was essentially shilling a catalog of products: Apple Bottoms jeans, Uggs (boots with fur), Reeboks (with straps), and um, baggy sweatpants…

But somewhere along the line, I got hooked.  The same happened with his follow up (In the Ayer) and Right Round, which borrows quite liberally from the classic 80’s tune, You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) by Dead or Alive.

Now know this – I usually can’t stand it when most songs lift old songs for new ones.  (Rihanna’s borrowing of Soft Cell’s Tainted Love back-beat to create the entirely different SOS was a major exception.  And I don’t count the Numa Numa song lifted for TI and Rihanna’s Live Your Life.)  And Right Round barely passed that opinion, but imagine my surprise when I heard Eiffel 65’s Blue in a new song:

Initially, I thought, “Oh geez, not this now!”  But when I figured out it out was Flo Rida, all was forgiven.  Why is that?

I hope that Flo Rida or his record label paid for sampling the 80’s classic “You Spin Me Round” by Dead or Alive for his new song “Right Round”. 2.4 million digital downloads, that’s crazy.

The 80s really seem to be back and not just in fashion, but musically and mentally as well.  I’ll talk about the fashion in another post, but there has been a lot of reworking of 80s songs recently.

Katy Perry did a cover of Outfield’s Your Love, but retitled it Use your Love.  I see this as her showing us some (good) music that she enjoys.  Also I think she wants to show that her guitar is not a prop.  Near the end of Katy’s song you can hear Rob Base and Dj EZ Rock’s It takes two.

Flo rida used Dead or Alive’s You spin me round (like a record) for the song Right Round. You spin me round actually makes for a good rap song.  I was pleasantly surprised, although at first I didn’t like it.  It took me a little while to get used to, because although it obviously used You spin me round its totally different.

What do you think about the sampling, covers, or otherwise use of 80s songs now?  And What’s with using some lyrics for the chorus for the name of the song?

Há alguns séculos eu não postava nada e minha lista de TODO’s para postar aqui é gigante. Mas furei qualquer fila por um único motivo: o erro cometido pelo Yanko no post sobre a mãe de 8 filhotes. Na verdade não é exatamente um erro, mas de fato é uma falta de atenção.

Gossip Girl here!! Since my interests include much more than just gossip, I have decided to feature a regular column where I introduce you to a newly released music single. You will find out which singles I find awesome, crappy,  dance inducing or just downright awful.

As I opened my iTunes today, I noticed that there was a new number one song.  It was the new one by Flo Rida, “Right Round.” You know the rapper who had the hits “Low” and “Elevator” last year. Anyways I bought it because I’ve liked his past hits and I love rap infused with some fantastic dance beats.  That is exactly what this song is.  Truly it is a great hip-hop song and totally infectious.  Especially the chorus which samples the 1985 Dead or Alive hit “You Spin Me Round.” Little bit of confusion regarding who the girl  featured is.  I have found sources online which state it as “I kissed a Girl” singer Katy Perry, others say pop singer Kesha, some say both.  iTunes has not listed the featured artist yet.  Either way awesome song, awesome beat, and totally addictive. I don’t care who you are, everyone danced to a Flo-Rida record at some point last year (Don’t lie to yourself, you did) and get ready to do the same again in 09! First single to be lifted off his upcoming album is “Round Round” which samples the 80s club hit “You Spin Me Round” By Dead or Alive. I’m not sure you are going to be able to escape this one over the coming months, I will leave up to you to assess whether that’s a good or bad thing!
